Strange white boxes behind text. Help!

I am in the middle of working on a very important document. In one section, an autobiographical section, I added sidbars. The background of text box is grey. Everything looked great, including when I printed last. Today when I was working on the document, I noticed that the headings (in the text box sidebars) have white behind the text. I tried troubleshooting:
I thought maybe there was a font trouble? tried changing fonts.
I thought maybe it was text box fill problem? changed colors of font and text box fill... No go.
Please ignore the terrible black boxes. I chose to black-out any personal data. The problem is the strange white boxes behind the headings (in the sidebar). Any ideas?

White box behind transparent images with drop shadow in InDesign CC 2014 (v.10) but not in InDesign CC (v.9)

Hi all,
Please can you help? No matter what settings I use in my print options in InDesign CC 2014 (v.10), ALL transparent images with a drop shadow are printing with a white box behind the image. If I remove the drop shadow, all prints fine. I know this is an old issue that happens with ID sometimes but I have been lucky enough to never have had it happen to me before! (All images are regular flattened TIFF images with clipping paths).
Also, feathered edges are not printing correctly and are sharp instead of feathered.
When I export the document to IDML and open it up in InDesign CC (v.9) all prints perfectly with no white boxes and feathered edges prints perfectly as well. I have compared all of the print settings (including color management, transparency flattener, etc.) between both versions and they are exactly the same. I am printing to a Xerox color laser printer. Can anyone offer any advice?

Okay...false alarm! It turns out that the issue was with my PRINTER settings (the settings you customize after hitting the “Printer” button at the bottom of the Print dialogue box in ID CC. I thought I had triple checked this but it seems there was one setting I missed earlier…adjusting the print brightness seemed to cause the issue. SO GLAD to know it was not InDesign…20 or so sheets/prints later….and thankful to know what was causing the issue! Thank you so much Steve for helping at any rate:) Much appreciated:)

In imovie '08 there is a white box behind my video and it wont view in the whole screen anymore. Only in a project 'im trying to make.

In imovie '08 in the viewing screen there is a white box behind my video instead of it showing in the whole screen like it used to. Even when i try to play the movie in full screen that white box is still behind the movie. I dont know what setting I changed or why now all of a sudden this box appears. Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Can I get rid of the white box behind my swf file?

I would like for the space behind my swf animation to not appear as a white box while the browser is loading the swf but rather show what is on the page behind the loading file.
I believe someone had once told me what to do to prevent this but I cannot find this info now.

White box around text in pdf

Hi. In InDesign CS3, Photoshop 7.0 & of course Acrobat 7.0
I made a Photoshop PDF & brought it into InDesign to export it into a PDF so I can make crop marks.
The PDF in Acrobat & InDesign both had a white box around some of the text. I had embedded the fonts in Photoshop, so I do not understand why that happened. I went back into Photoshop & just retyped over where the box was appearing & this had solved the problem after I repdfed & imported it into ID. Acrobat viewed the text perfect then.
I want to prevent this from happening in the future, does anyone know what I can do to look out for things like this?

White box around text in Windows-based PDFs viewed on Mac

I make a lot of Microsoft Word-based PDFs that include colored, text-filled tables. They look great when viewed on my machine, but Mac users see a faint white outline around the text in each cell of the table. How do I get rid of the white box?

Error in printing? White boxes around text?

Right now I'm experencing a problem with printing in
Flashpaper. In my company we're converting brochures over into
Flashpaper as a test. Everything converts over smoothly until we do
a print test. What we're seeing in our print outputs is any area
that contains text on top of a image you'll get an white box around
the text. Although when you view the flashpaper on the monitor you
don't see that white box around the text. It appears that during
print process the text fields retain a white box and doesn't set it
to be transparent.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? And is there a way
around this?

White box behind part of pdf in InDesign

I had a pdf that was absolutely fine and then I placed it in an InDesign document and it still looked fine.
On saving from InDesign as a pdf this is what I got...;
Any light to shed on why there is now a white square behind every tree?

As per the last comment in the thread from 2013...
I still can’t get the extra boxes to disappear when I PDF my indesign file to upload. My Simulate overprint box won’t even light up to check and try.
Is this a new problem with CS6?

Black Boxes Behind Icons– HELP!

Hi! I like making my own icons and then taking IconComposer (Developer tool) and having it make me a icns file. It works great, except anytime, yes anytime, I put any kind, ANY kind of custom icon on anything, instead of the background of the icon being transparent (alpha channel,) I see a big black box behind everything. If there isn't something on every one of the 32 or however many pixels in my icon, black shows up. HELP!!!!

Try removing all the photos from your iPod by disabling the option to Sync Photos from under your iPod's Photos tab in iTunes. Then Apply the changes to remove the photos. Then reapply that same option to sync them back over and see if that helps.

CS5: I often get white box behind logos when importing

This has happened a few times now. I import a logo from CS5 and place over a color background and get a white box. I end up copying the logo from AI and pasting directly into ID. Not an ideal workflow. In the attached, the left image is the Walgreens logo imported into ID and placed over a light tan field. The image on the right is the logo in AI. I put a black background and you can see there is no white box. This is happening whether I import into CS4 or 5. The logo is CS5 AI.

Looks like InDesign is trying to create the transparency, rather than using what Illustrator has defined in the postscript.
Select the placed .ai file, InDesign >> Object >> Clipping Path >> Options >> (Make sure type is set to none, detect edges would cause this)

White box behind flash when in html

Hi. I've created a flash with a black background and inserted
in my html also with a black background. The problem is that when I
click through the pages, for a half second or so, the area behind
the flash is white (and stands out like a sore thumb). Any thoughts
to why this might be happening and what to do to fix it? Thanks for
your help.

I see a bgcolor attribute inside a <table> tag, but I
don't see that
attribute inside the <object> and <embed> tags.
It needs to be your
JavaScript, too.
e.g.

Box Behind Text

Is there a way to type text and at the same time create a fill box around the text? Like here on the left?

Are you trying to semi-automate the construction of dimension labels? If so, you might take a look at this thread:

The workaround described uses a Paragraph Style and a Graphic Style in conjunction with a Javascript. It does not create the text object perpendicular to the arrows. That can be accomplished by direct-selecting the text object, doubleClicking the Rotate tool and keying in 90 degrees. (Or, one could modify the script to compute the angle of the arrow line and rotate the text object so that it is always oriented vertically.)
This was done in 2007. I'm not sure if the later very poor attempt at improving Illustrator's utterly lame Arrowheads feature broke compatibility with this script, but I have some vague recollection of testing it. Can't do right now, because I don't have CS5 installed on this laptop.

Down-level Poster.png just a white box on IE8

Hi everyone,
I've created a very simple Edge Animate banner consisting of a background image and two layers of text that fade in, it shows up perfectly in everything except for (understandably) IE8 and I assume IE7, all I see is a white box.
I inserted the animation via Dreamweaver using Insert/Media/Edge Animate Composition, it went into a "mainbanner" div with CSS:

These code lines have been inserted into the <head> section of the Dreamweaver template and subsequent index.php page:

This code was applied to the "mainbanner" div by Dreamweaver after doing Insert/Media/Edge Animate Composition:

Don't know why the animation that has 1000px width has a width of 1020px shown in code when imported yet shows correctly as 1000px in the browser but hey!
I've checked that the down-level poster (Poster.png) I created has been linked to the animation; has been uploaded to the web server; is showing the appropriate static version of the animation but after one whole night of trying everything I can think of all I still get on IE8 is a white box!
Can someone please give me some help with this, many thanks in advance.

I've just made the Poster.png appear on IE8 by extending the CSS #mainbanner width to 1020px (despite the image being 1000px) and removing the padding temporarily. However two issues still remain:
The image is now not aligned with the header and footer so I need to insert padding again plus there is a still a white box behind the .png that I simply don't want!
At least I have made some progress since waking up this morning with a fresh head!

Check your style sheets. Something is giving a link a background color. Look for something like this:
.myClass a {
background-color: #FFFF
Then remove it.
