Strange wi-fi behavior on 4th gen. iPhones

I have established a wi-fi network using a Comcast (Arris) gateway, which broadcasts on 2.4 GHz only. I've connected an Airport Express (latest generation) to the gateway via Ethernet, creating a wi-fi network that is identical in name and password to the gateway network (done according to an Apple instruction). Here's the thing. I'm able to connect all my iOS and OS devices to the network, except for my wife's iPhone 4S and my old iPhone 4. For whatever reason, I can connect her phone to wi-fi only when I'm in close proximity to the gateway router; I cannot connect elsewhere, even standing close to the AE, which is in an adjacent room.
When I examine the connected devices using Safari, I note that my wife's iPad (2nd gen.), which is located farthest from the gateway but on the other side of the AE, is connected via Ethernet (?). I presume that this iPad is using the AE's extended network rather than the gateway's.
Now, once I connect my wife's iPhone via the gateway router, it will not reconnect when it gets beyond a certain distance from the gateway and will not connect via the AE, as her iPad does. (Same problem with the old iPhone 4.) Yet, all the other devices have no problem connecting to the network either via the gateway or the AE.
So, there would appear to ba a hardware difference between the 4th and 5th generation iPhones that affects wi-fi connectivity, though I have no idea what that might be. Or, I'm simply doing something wrong.
Any ideas?

I may not be of much help because I just started using Macs for the first time on Wed,but I was having a similiar problem.Everything worked great for the first few hrs I was hooked to internet using and Aiport Express wireless router. I am at work right now on a PC and can't think of the setting on the Macbook that I changed.I know that I went into the section where you set up or change your your internet settings/network settings. There was a list where it showed Airport Express at the bottom of the list.Once I moved it to the top of the list everything was Gold.
When I get off of work I will come back and try and give better detailed instructions.
I have owned this Macbook for 2 days.In that short amount of time I can honestly say that I will never go back to a PC
Macs rock!!

  • Syncing the 4th Gen iPhone

I up graded a while ago and I am having trouble with the syncing process. Every time I sync the new phone I get back all of the old stuff (like photos and old apps) and have to re-delete this. It's a real pain. Not the most technologically advanced so I'm sure it is: A) my fault and/or B) I didn't read and understand the user's handbook. Any way to stop this from happening? I mean there is a reason I deleted the stuff in the first place.  Thanks.

You cannot sync the two directly. You have to get the content thats on your phone, onto your computer. Once there you import intoi itunes, then sync to ipad. This is not all easy, depending on the type of content, how it was obtained or purchased. Simply backing up, does not transfer any content from one device to the other, you have to sync the content.

  • Why can't I get iOS7 on may iPod touch 4th gen

I am mad because 4th gen iPhone can get iOS 7 but 4th gen iPod cant

Because that iPod touch model has only 256MB RAM and iOS 7 requires at least 512MB.

  • My Iphone/ Ipod touch 4th gen WiFi problems and solution

Just wanted to let people know the problems that I had with my 4th gen Ipod touch and Iphone 4 WiFi connections (and my solution).
I was having consistent problems with my WiFi connection at home - my devices were connecting fine to the router and apparently the signal was full strength; however, nothing was working properly (internet, itunes, app store). To be specific the devices would work for 5-10 minutes but then the connection would start to falter. My other wireless devices were working fine (HTC Hero, laptops etc.) - just the ipod and iphone seemed to suffer from this signal problem (although the router was always apparently connected).
Obviously, I read countless forums to try and diagnose the problem. There seemed to be a litany of possible causes and I tried the following to resolve the issue:
    - updated router (Netgear WGR614 v6) firmware
    - rotated wireless encryption (WEP/WAP/nothing)
    - changed router channel
    - reset router power
    - reset network settings on Apple devices
    - changed g and b settings on router
Nothing seemed to work so I began to question the hardware i.e. the router (which I knew was working from my other devices) and the iphone/ipod.
I tested my iphone and ipod on other wireless networks (McDonalds in the UK has free WiFi) and found that, in contrast, they worked fine on other networks. I had read a few posts from people saying that my router was perhaps too old. So as a last resort I bought myself a new router (Netgear WNR2000 v2). I was loathe to do this earlier in case it didn't work, since reasonable spec routers are £50
Anyway it worked ... straight away. I have tested the new connection at home using this SpeedTest app. D/load = 9.01 Mbps, U/load = 0.46 Mbps, Ping 65ms. The router is using the full encryption (WAP2 something ...) and N connection.
As you can probably tell I'm no WiFi expert - I just wanted to post this in case people are having similar issues with older routers. I wasn't able to find any definitive advice and solutions from other users so I though I'd contribute here, which I guess is the first port of call for new Apple users, like me
I bought the new router 10 days ago and have been enjoying my full speed connection ever since - touch wood. Hope this helps.

Sounds like an intermittent contact problem some where eon the logic board. Hard to trace down and fix

  • Can the 4th gen iPod Touch run the same apps as iPhone 4?

I am sorry, I'm not much informed about stuff like this, so I'm pretty much a noob.
I got my eye on the new iPod Touch, especially because it is (from what I've read) an iPhone 4 without the phone and the GPS and a somewhat slightly inferior camera and display. I like the iPhone, too, of course, but the price is something that is really important to me, so it's iPod Touch for me.
I read about all the new features for the new iPod, such as games and other apps, but I'm wondering - can it run the same games apps as the iPhone?
From the fact they operate on the same OS and that they're very similar hardware wise (same processor) I concluded that they can run the same apps, but as I never seen it officially and as there only "iPhone apps" on iTunes store (not iPod Touch apps) I got the impression that might not be true.
So I am asking here now, does the latest iPod Touch run the same apps (games etc.) as the latest iPhone? And can I run the iPhone apps I buy from the appstore on the iPod Touch 4th gen?
I am sorry for my uninformativeness and I thank you in advance.

Most of the iPhone apps will work the same way on the 4G iPod as they do on the phone. However, other that rely on the specific feature unique to the phone may install but will not work well if at all. The App Store should identify the system/device requirements.

  • I have an iPhone 4 and an iPod 4th gen linked to the same email address and apple ID. I am trying to set up a new email address for the iPod so a family member can use it but it doesn't want to recognize the new email account. Where am I going wrong?

I have an iPhone 4 and a 4th gen iPod linked to the same email address and apple ID. I am trying to change the email address on the iPod so a family member can use it but when I do it says it doesn't recognize the email address. Where am I going wrong ? I just want them to be able to iMessage and email without having to use my email address.

The procedure is Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at>Add another email address. The email address has to be a valid working email address, obviously. Apple should verify the email address and you have to go to the inbox of that email account, read the verification email from Apple and follow the inductions in the email in order to complete the verification. Then you go back to the settings, uncheck your email address and check the new email address to be used as the contact email address.

  • My wife and I each have an iPhone4 with separate Apple IDs. We are hopefully about to purchase the 4th gen iPad; can we use iCloud on the iPad with separate IDs on the iPhones?

My wife and I each have an iPhone4 with separate Apple IDs. We are hopefully about to purchase the 4th gen iPad; can we use iCloud on the iPad with separate IDs on the iPhones?
We would like to have all our music, photos, etc. on the iPad - is it best to create a new combined Apple ID for the iPad and simply upload our music, photos, etc. via our laptop instead? Does this not then render the iCloud useless to us?

And just in case you were wondering, installing one purchased copy on all the Macs you own is specifically called out as allowed in the Mac OS X Lion license.
If you do not want to download multiple times, just copy the Applications -> Install Lion app to a safe place BEFORE you do the first install.  Then copy that copy to any Mac you own where you want to install Lion.

I have 300 apps organized in folders on my ipod touch 4th gen, and connected my iphone 4, these apps have copied over but none have been placed in folders, any ideas how to replicate folders from ipod to iphone...?

What may work is to restore the iPhone fom the backup of the iPod.  However, if the two devices ahve different apps that come with the device, that may mess up some of the folders.

    HELP
Help needed to update a 4th gen ipod touch running version 4.3.5 (8L1) to the latest 6.0 version.  When I connect and try to update i keep getting a box which states that a connection error occured and I cannot update.
I have been given a new laptop for xmas which runs on windows 8, and the new itunes version (which is in itself a hurdle as I am a technophobe!) and this is all becoming a bit fustrating.
I have connected, updated and synced my iphone successfully, but just hit a brick wall on the ipod.  (which incidentally maybe where this laptop will end up!!)
Help if you can, but in laymans terms.......

Thank you for you input so far.....
I think we are getting nearer to the solution sort of!
Let me get this straight...... I have paid for content on itunes, bought the apple devicds in order to play said content, now I have to subscribe $25 for the privilage of playing MY library content on MY other devices. Which wasn't such an issue to do before the new and improved itunes version!!
Have I got that correct.  I think I cannot associate my other iOS devices with my library because I am unwilling to pay further through the nose!!!???  or am I missing something?
    Thanks
    Frustrated even more now!!

  • How can i get find my iphone or find my friends on a ipod 4th gen .

How can i get find my friends or find my iphone on a ipod 4th gen as the apps now need ios7 and the ipod wont update to this , i used to have it on my old iphone before ios7 ?

There is no way of doing that from a 4G iPod if you did not install the app before it was updated to be only compatible with iOS 7.
Thus, you will have to use a computer and in a browser go to icloud.com>FIndMyiPhone.
