Strange Wierdness in 16:9

I film in 16:9 - have all of my settings set for it within Final Cut (Anamorphic) however when I burn my discs the films fit television screens and in some cases they look stretched as though it is letterbox...
I am not seeing the black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen associated with the "widescreen" look...
I've also tried the anamorphizer, but I'd just like to understand what the problem is and get everything running right out of Final Cut Pro Academic and not deal with downloaded online apps...

What are you using to burn the dvds?
Does the material display properly in your viewer and canvas in fcp?
When you say your films 'fit television screens' do you mean 4:3 screens?
I don't understand what you mean by 'in some cases they look stretched as though it is letterbox'. You then go on to say that it doesn't look letterboxed;

Stretched which way? Horizontally or vertically? If vertically, then you're seeing anamorphic 16:9 displayed as 4:3, which would imply that you've used idvd without anamorphicizer. Is that the case?

Photostream answers in plain English?

Ok, I have tried to read the basic information, including the Faq. However, they are either more plain than really informative, or seem to lack what should be some essential bits of information.
I use a Windows 7 X64 SP1 computer at home, that has the iCloud control panel installed, along with the latest version of iTunes.
Maybe it is just my experience with how things work in Windows computers. Maybe Macs and iOS devices how some strange wierd way of doing things that have ever been explained to me, I do not know.
I realize that, hence the name Photo"Stream", that it shouldn't be a permanent location to store anything. However, I see nothing on iCloud.com, the iCloud Control Panel, or anywhere on my iPhone 5 or my 4th Gen iPad, any actual "saved" stored photos locations that are part of the stream in PhotoStream.
I get the idea, stored in iCloud.. right? Well... since Apple, in its infinite wisdom, won't release a Windows version of iPhoto to arrange/organize albums i.e. folders of photos stored in iCloud via the PhotoStream, how exactly are we supposed to make this work correctly? I see no photos area on iCloud.com. I don't have a Mac, and have no possible income to afford one. On my iPhone or my iPad, I do see a way to "save" folders in "albums", but those albums seem to have to be created on my iPhone or iPad, and even putting a photo into one, defeats the purpose. The idea, or at least in theory, is to take the photo on the Photostream, put it into a folder, and take it out of the main "stream". But you can't do that. Even putting a photo into an album created in the stream, accomplishes nothing to help or assist with organizing photos if they will still me in the main stream leaving it an absolute mess, making it even harder to find newer photos that get just taken to move to existing folders/albums or to create a new album for. It is possible to "move" a photo into an album, but when you try to delete it from the stream, you get a warning saying it will delete the photo everywhere from every device, INCLUDING the device with the album, deleting it from the album in the process.
Why does this keep it simple idea not work? In Windows, you create a new folder (what you call albums), then give it a name of your choosing. Then, in Windows, you use a mouse, right-click the photo, and choose the option "cut". Then you either click the folder (album) using a mouse, or use the mouse to open the folder, then in either case, right-click and choose the optiong "paste". When that is done, it moves from 1 place to another place, but stops being where it was originally. That allows keeping it easy, but allowing organizing those photos into areas that are easy to determine the contents of.
I know the photos get "saved" on iCloud, but why can't I as a Windows user, or via my iPad or my iPhone, get access to the place saved location and not just the "stream" of them?
I am not asking too much, I just want to organize my photos into seperate albums, be able to use the Photostream to access them or view them on any of my devices, is that so difficult?

On a PC using Windows 7 or VIsta, click the Windows Start button, and then Pictures. Click Photo Stream under the Favorites menu in the panel on the left. Double-click My Photo Stream to view your photos.

Port 3306 | 7869...why so difficult!

I develop locally and access my server remotely...
I have a WRT54G Wireless Router and am connected to the internet successfully.
However, I cannot get to my MySQL server remotely when going through the wireless router. The server runs on port 3306 of the mysql server.
In addition I debug locally with port 7869, which cannot be accessed as well now.
Can anyone provide any guidance...tried to understand the port triggering and forwarding, but completely got lost.
Why is this so strange, wierd and complex to get accomplished?

Do you mean the Internet server or my local PC internet connection? I don't believe either of them have a static IP. Although my mysql server does have a constant IP that my domain is attached to?
I have not forwarded any ports, not really sure what the heck that is doing.
So if I need to be able to access 3306 on a remote mysql server, I need to forward 3306 to my IP address?

Is my friends comp wierd, or does JOptionPane do strange stuff?

This is hard to ask because I have not seen exactly what is happening, but I have a small program that displays some JOptionPanes, It all looks right on my comp WinXP... but on my friends comp (Win98), he says that the 'Dialogs Things' do strange stuff...
He doesnt know much about computers so I got a silly description bout what happens... he said that the 'dialogs' were "poping up and around tha screen in weird places,... and sometimes they were hard to get to them..."
Anyone know what this could be?...

Go to your freinds place and ask him to show you the strange behaviour, or ask him to explainm a little better. Your description of the problem is too vague.

Extremely Wierd/Strange Capture Results

I capture HD footage on a Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5 with 4 GB DDR SDRAM in FCP. Everything works great until I get a tape that is half HD and half something else. The camera screen says the second half is SD but it is in HD dimensions. It will not let me capture any of it in any SD capturing presets. It will, however, capture in Apple Intermediate Codec. The quality is not as good as HD but I digress. It is going to be converted to DVD quality anyway. When I open the captued clips in the viewer it looks great and the audio is there too. However when I throw it in a sequence I get a bright chroma green box in the center. The audio is still there but for some reason the video is not. I have tried changing the sequence settings but nothing is working. Again, the HD works fine...but the second half of the tape (supposedly SD) is problematic...
Any Ideas/Solutions/Questions/Comments/Concerns?

You'll need to capture the material in it's native fomat... i.e. capture the first part as HDV, then capture the second part as DV for starters. The intermediate codec isn't really the best way to go here...
Post what you are using as a playback device.... a camera? deck? etc.. does it need to switch it's playback settings or is this automatic or?
Most HDV cameras shoot DV and HDV so likely that's what the "other" format is and you'll need to capture it as such.

Greyed out "locked" button/ strange behaviour

anyone got any idea why virtually all my files and folders have the "locked" button greyed out? (g4 under osx 10.3.9). even if i make a brand new folder it's lock is greyed out (i thought it might have been a permissions conflict from copying stuff from other computers/ drives at first, but it seems that now this function is simply unavailable. the permissions all look ok (i am the owner of the files/ folders, i have read & write access, as do all groups and users. i have a great freeware application called File Examiner that will over-ride any permissions and that will sort out any essential files, but it is just plain wierd that when i am the owner i can't perform this simple function. is it advisable to repair permissions on the whole computer or is there some risk involved? bearing in mind that i have 1200mb of external drive storage (mainly music stuff). i have selected the main folder on some of the drives and changed every permission to Read & Write and then clicked "apply to enclosed items" and that made no difference (although it did correctly change the permissions)
These same folders have been copied to another drive downstairs, attached to a mac mini (under tiger). this has resulted in another strange problem whereby my music library behaves like it is locked and won't let me move files/ folders around. The "locked" button on the folders is actually available (which is strange as they were copied from the 10.3.9/g4 with the grey "locked" buttons), but not selected. i "solved" this problem by clicking it on, then off again.

my os is exactly the same as the one you described [Mac OS x 10.3.9 (7W98), Darwin 7.9.0.
however, that menu item is definately nowhere to be found...i know the menu you are describing as i use it all the time, but i don't remember ver having seen this "file util" option.
i am slightly concerned as i'm wondering whether this has something to do with another issue i'm having: i have built a music library on various external drives connected to my g4/panther. when i connect a drive to my intel mac mini (tiger 10.4.10) and delete files/ folders they still show up in searches afterwards (in spotlight, or using the search bar in the finder) - however, it shows up with a blank icon, uses zero k, does not give any location, is "read only", and if you double-click it a message comes up saying that it is an alias and the original can no longer be found. it then gives me the 3 options usually associated with a broken alias - "delete", "fix alias" or "ok". none of these achieve anything. it is like it has retained a "ghost" of the deleted file. as you can imagine this could gradually become ridiculous as searching will show endless nonsence that no longer really exists.
never seen anything like it. if i create and delete a file or folder on the same drive from the mac mini things behave as normal....it just happens with data written to the drives when connected to the g4/panther
conversely, if i reconnect the drive to the g4 and search for any of these "ghost" files it does not find them.
i also had a brief period the other day where i couldn't move anything around in my root "mp3 library" folder on a drive connected to the mac mini (as if my root "mp3 library" folder was locked or read only - niether of which were indicated). i eventuallly "solved" it by locking the root "mp3 library" (under "get info"....by god! it actually works in tiger!) and then unlocking it again. maybe, due to the wierdness gong on with the greyed out 'locked" folders coming across from panther, tiger saw them as locked when they wern't.

some very strange things going on

Wierd Wifi config issues

While trawling the "System Information" for my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.8) I noticed two peculiar things, and wonder if they have anything to do with my intermittently poor wifi reception.
The first is that even though I'm on my own network at the moment, under "Current Network Information" it shows my neighbor's network, which I sometimes use (with permission). And it stays that way even if I switch to his network and then back to mine, and then reset the system info page.
The second wierd thing is that under "Other Local Wi-Fi Networks" it lists my own network twice, and with 2 slightly different configurations. What's even stranger is that the network shows up only once in the wifi network list in my menu bar, and my network preferences.
So I'm wondering--should I delete one of those duplicate home networks? If so, how, since it doesn't show up in my network preferences? And how would I know which one to delete? One shows a much better signal-noise ratio that the other (which is what I was looking for in the first place), so I'd want to delete the poorer one.
2nd question: how do I deal with my neighbor's network showing up as the "current" one in my system info. Does it even matter?

MySQL wierd characters

Hi there!
I'm start using ColdFusion and whant to use MySQL DataBase.
I have a MySQL (3.x) Datan Source Connection configured on
the ColdFusion server.
On DreamWeaver I can access and retreive all the tables data
but with a strange behavior.
All values with "ç,´. ~, ^" are represented with
wierd characters loke "_" and squares.
I use the same MySQL table with PHP and it work just fine,
just when i call the table data in ColdFusion that i have that
problem.
How can I solve this??? :\

Strange Duplicate IP messages in 2504

Hi,
My customer is seeing these Errors coming up on one of his 2504 WLC's (ver7.3)
The MAC's and IP addresses Mentioned seem to be completely fictitious as the customers IP plan is way off these subnets and the vendor lookup tool cant resolve the MAC addresses.
I can confirm that there is no conflict.
What's going on?
I've seen them appear on other 2504's across his network on seperate occasions.

That's the wierd part! The IP addresses mentioned are definately NOT on the network??
The customer uses 10.x.x.x across the whole enterprise. The AP's use DHCP on the same subnet as the controller, so in this case 10.13.103.x (higher than .20) where .10 is always the controller on each site.
I've never seen IP addresses beginning with 4.x.x.x being used before. So if these strange IP addresses are being introduced on the network somewhere (e.g. from a guest device or misconfigured NIC), that wouldn't explain why they should conflict with the AP's which as I've mentioned have 10.13.103.whatever.
As an afterthought I'm holding off upgrading to 7.4 until the next release of Prime which will allow their NCS 1.1.1.24 to be upgraded.
(Just in case it's a software bug)

Strange things with checkbox

Hi! I have a strange problem: In liveCycle Designer ES 8.2 I have on Master Page checkbox "mycheckbox".
My code:

    myPage.presence = "hidden";
When I clicked on mycheckbox happen strange things - mycheckbox will not be checked! I don't understand what is wrong.

Hello mathew,
If you keep any interactive fields in the Master page like text field or check box, as Malcolm said you will loose the values in it.
This happens only when you try to hide some pages. because the form will be remerged again and it can bring back the values entered in the fields present only in      the body page. It will not hold any values entered for the master page. That is why your check box is behaving wierd. To get more clarity on this, keep a text field in the master page, and on its exit event, try to hide one of your pages on the form. When you preview the form and type the value on text field and exit from it, the text field will become null and also your required page will be hidden.
Your problem solution:
    For the check fields you want to have in Master page, maintain the duplicate hidden check fields in one of the body page. Try to assign the checked values to the hidden fields in the change event of check fields and retrieve the values back to the masterpage checkfields in the exit event.
This below should work for you in the events of master page checkbox:

Wierd flickering with latest chromium

I've been having some wierd flickering with the latest chromium.
I get black portions of the screen (including outside the chromium window). I ocasionally get a black i3-statusbar when scrolling with chromium, and the I see a lot of wierd artifacts on the entire screen.
For example, a moment ago, while scrolling a wikipedia article, half of a duckduckgo logo appeared for a moment, though ddg was open on a different tab.
Sometimes when scrolling, I'll see the top of the page overlayed with the current portion (it's not a lagged redraw, since both the current portion and the top portion get overlayed).
Here's another example.
Notice how the tab-bar is black, and the i3-statusbar (at the bottom) is black too.
Screenshots are very hard to capture because it's usually just a couple of frames and at unpredictable intervals.
Does anyone else have this issue? I'm suspecting of aura, chromium's new toolkit, but would like to know if I'm the only one.

It's not an urgent problem, since Firefox works as usual, but it's a really strange bug.
I've always prefered firefox too anyway. But when I ocasionally use chromium, it screws up the entire desktop, and that sucks.

Wierd font mess when creating iphoto cards

Hello!
Here's the issue:
Every time I type in my text for a card and then I go to change the font or the font size it messes EVERYTHING (all the text anyway) up!. The wierd thing is that it doesn't change the text to the font I select, it changes it to ONE font below the font I select. So.... If I WANT say "Helvetica" I have to choose "Hiku" which is one below helvetica alphabetically, or if I want to choose say "Baskerville" then I have to actually select "Bookman". Very strange and frustrating! How can I get iphoto to accept the fonts i'm selecting? Selecting the font sizes does the same thing to mess everything up.

Sounds like a possible font problem to me.
I would recommend that you check out Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, by Kurt Lang.

Strange IP's in routing table

I have a Linksys RT31P2 wired VoIP router that connects to my cable modem directly. Since there are more than 3 computers that link up to the internet in my house I have connected a Netgear FS105 5 port switch which all of the computers on my network connect to. I have had this setup for about 4 years now and it has been working fine until recently. I noticed that my connection was slowing down and wierd things were happening like links popping back to the page the link was on instead of the link itself and super long periods between page refreshes. So out of the blue I log into the router admin space and have a look around, nothing unusual. I open the routing table and I was surprised to see all of these strange Ip's, complete with their own subnet masks and default gateways. Also, all of them had a hop count of 165. The ip addresses resolved to several different ISP's in the sout eastern part of the country. Turning the router off and then back on clears all of these out but within a few days they are back. I have checked all of the computers in the network but have found nothing out of the ordinary. What is going on here? I didn't think that an attacker could come through the router firewall on a wired router but if hackers can get into top government networks, I guess they could get through a simple router. The following link is to a pic of the routing table with all of the strange entries. Anybody ever experience this and if so, what was done to prevent it from happening? Thanks.

I'm not sure I follow exactly. Are you saying a firewall between the router and modem? Doesn't the router already have one in place and is there such a thing as a firewall box that goes between devices like that? Somebody told me that this might have been due to p2p sites like Limewire or Bearshare, neither of which my wife nor myself use. My daughter has used Limeware but not much from what she says. I don't know but I really would like to fix this for good.

Strange behaviours of my Macbook

Dear users,
Strangely I had my system down when I was waking up my pc.
After installing the OS X again, I (by mistake) instead of force quitting finder, I pressed CtrlCommandpower (which is for force restart)... the operating system went down and even though it was totally newly installed, I could not install the OS X without erasing the disk... any solution? and how can I report that to Apple???

i'm reaching the one month mark so ill give some of my impressions that coincide or contrast with yours:
liquid effect on shutdown-i noticed it too, not like it bothers me, just something i actually noticed, i think its normal.
trackpad-i love the two finger scrolling and right click options, but now that i got the wireless mighty mouse i love the optional right click and and the ability to zoom with the scroll is really usefull
battery-ive been getting 4hrs-4.5, pretty impressed with it so far
airport router-i have to leech of my neighbor (across the street) b/c my network doesnt reach my room, using the macbook in the exact same spot where my desktop pc's wireless USB thingie is, i get double the signal on the macbook than on the desktop (desktop can barely load a web page, macbook runs internet just as fast, if not faster, than my mom/dad's desktop pcs right next to their router
applecare-i agree the phone wait has been ridiculous (i had the sleep instead of shutdown problem-easily solved by resetting the pvram and pmu) but once i got through they were incredibly helpful. i think its funny that i was on hold longer for the applecare part of tech support (i didnt have my enrollment # cuse it was never mailed) than it did for the actual tech support problem
this is my first mac so my overall impression (once the wierd thing with the going into sleep when shut down and not waking up w/o taking the battery out was solved) has been unbelievable. i hope to never buy a PC again. ive had every windows operating system made and im thanking god i'm not going to experience vista.

IPhone 4s called random stranger by itself

I have an iPhone 4s and this morning I received a text and then a phone call from a stranger, claiming that I had called her. I had been sleeping up until she called me, so obviously I hadn't made any calls. She sent me a screencap of her call log, and it showed my number having called her, but I checked my own call log and it didn't show her number at all. I've never seen her number before, and I really did not make the call. And no one else could have used my phone to make that call. Does anyone know what's going on? Has this happened to anyone else? And is there a way to prevent it from happening again? I really don't want my phone to be calling complete strangers without my knowledge..
