Strangely played basses

I got a little sound problem with my iPod mini. Frequencies under 200Hz are not played correctly. It sounds like my headphones are damaged, but i tried different ones like Sennheiser HD 497 or MX50 and the same problem persists. On my pc all songs are played alright using repro, or same headphones.

the same thing has happened to my mini & i haven't found out what's wrong with it either. Some people say that it could be the headphone socket.. but i haven't found anything wrong with that yet.

Low image quality, strange playing behavior of Encore CS5-authored DVD

looks like I'm becoming a frequent visitor here! Could do with a little more help.
A no-menu DVD I tired to make yesterday is shown plays in rather low quality. Also, it starts from about a minute into the movie, even though no chapters have been set (I have to rewind to see the beginning), and for the first split second it shows something that looks like 1 or 2 frames of 3/4 video that immediately stretches out to something that looks like 16/9 with dark left and right margins of about 7 pixels.
My workflow was this:
I exported the untranscoded footage into Encore, set up the First play to the Timeline and End action to Stop, tried to render but the render option was grayed-out, previewed the DVD in Encore (the preview looked fine) and then clicked Build.
My questions are:
1. How to make it work and --
2. What can I do for the maximum high quality of the DVD in Encore? (My client told me he saw someone making a 20 min DVD in full HD quality. Anyone knows how this can be done?)

First, there are ways to Burn HD onto a DVD disc, but obviously the Duration will be greatly limited, due to the size of the destination disc. Not sure how they might, or might not, apply to Encore, but here is one ARTICLE on Muvipix, and here is an ARTICLE from the PrE forum on similar. Here is an ARTICLE from Elements Village, but I think it is basically a re-cap of material in the other two.
Now, to your DVD Project. Are you using ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link), or are you doing your Export from PrPro, and then Importing into En? If the latter, what are your Export settings?
Can you post a screen-cap of your En Timeline, just in case there's something there?
You might want to also post to the Adobe Encore Forum, as there are some users, who do not spend much time here.
What you describe is odd to me. I have not encountered such, nor have I read of it.

T6100 Speaker System - Weird Noise when playing bass

Hello, i bought these speakers as an upgrade from my old Dell speakers but now i've almost gone back to my old.
My problem is that everytime the song comes to a thumping bass sound, my subwoofer kinda "farts", its not blown i think but this noise is really bugging me. Makes house/dance music almost impossible to listen to
Is there anyone else here with this problem or should i just go and replace the subwoofer or something?

Strange play back issue with iTunes.

Playing songs from my PC the chosen song plays fine to a conclusion, but then jumps to another song as if switched to 'shuffle' which it isnt. The following songs are always the same. There doesn't appear to be any thread between them they are just always the same and they are songs I rarely if ever play so I can't understand why. I've checked all the controls and all seems fine. My Ipod seems to work fine and will play a whole album without problems. I have xp on the PC and am using iTunes 10. Can anyone help?

This may or may not help, but;
Try selecting the songs that are starting at random parts during the file.
Right-click on the selected file and select "Get Info".
If the "Start Time" for the track is not set to "0", then set it to "0".
Click "OK".

Looking for a cool music app (music creation, recording, playing)

Hi there,
I was looking on the app store if there's such application but didn't succeeded at the moment.
I'm looking for an app that would allow me to create music on the fly with a "midi-keyboard" with which I would record some notes then loop the sample and record a second track.
And build my simple music by playing bass line, then adding some beat, etc...
Any idea if it exist?

As to your issue, first, make sure that you did not inadvertently make an in-app purchase. Many apps, particularly games, are free for the base game but charge for additional features such as levels, "coins" and other such add-ons. Check your Purchase History to see if that reminds you as to what you might have purchased:

As to a refund, that's not automatic since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:

They're usually pretty lenient in the case of inadvertent purchases, but there are no guarantees.
If the charge was not an in-app purchase that you made and forgot but the charges do appear in your Purchase History, contact the iTunes Store and let them know. If the charges don't appear in your Purchase History, they were probably fake charges made directly to your credit card, and your card issuer will need to handle those.

Bass Guitar into HiFi - Is it safe?

Hi,
I'm playing Bass guitar in Garageband via a Griffin iMic USB device into my iMac. Now, I could route the sound through to my Hifi from the mac, but is it safe to do that with the Bass?
Does Garageband compress the sound or whatever it needs to do to make it safe? I don't wanna blow my speakers, or my headphones for that matter.

Although GB doesn't compress, the amplitude is limited - once it's reached, your recording clips. That sounds ugly, but doesn't get any louder.
So if you have set your stereo to a level where the speakers survive normal pop music from iTunes (with iTunes' volume slider cranked to maximum), they shouldn't have a problem with GB's output.

Plug in active bass

1st of all i posted this question elsewhere a few days ago but due to lack of answers ( wrong ''community'' ?.. ) i'm posting it here, i know this is frowned upon but what else can i do ? i DO NEED to learn this...
so, after a LOOOONG time of NOT playing bass, the bug came back to bite me & today i'm getting a bass guitar i ordered, a cheap & merry Cort Action A 4 string active bass - here :

i have my iMac ( late 2009, 27'' i7, 16GB Ram.. ) connected via optical to a CambridgeAudio DacMagic which in turn is connected to my Roksan Kandy K2 + B&W speakers - it works super fine be it for email arriving/Trash can emptying sounds or Van Halen splitting my ears/driving the neighbours up the wall...
now as far as i can make of ALL the info i've been reading prior to ordering the bass, i can plug my bass guitar in my iMac by :
1 - cable with male USB to 6.3mm jack onto any USB at back of iMac - some say this creates latency in GarageBand !?..
2 - cable w/ 6.3mm mono male jack to 3.5mm jack ( mono, stereo ?.. ) plugged into the iMac's headphones socket around the back
3 - a FW800 interface
4 - a USB interface
if options 3 or 4 are best, any suggestions for a simple, high quality interface ? there are just SO MANY - each claiming to be the last ice cold Coke one will drink before entering the desert of course,...
considering the bass i'm getting + the fact i simply want to play over some songs from my iTunes library & eventually fool around with it in GarageBand & make a couple recordings, how should i go about it ?
sorry guys, i realise this IS NOT a single question, problem is there is SO MUCH information regarding these topics out there, much if not all ISN'T exactly written for newbs so i couldn't make much sense out of it all, specially since there are ENDLESS variations : active/passive, DI/no DI, USB output from pre-amp/effects box, so on & so forth...

1 - Lexicon Alpha Studio ( both good & bad reviews !?.. )
2 - Apogee Jam ( limited : no mic in or heaphones out.. )
3 - M-Audio Fast Track ( not exactly sure which, since it seems there are a few different models.. )
4 - the Sonus i2M ( equivalent to Jam but adds some midi triggering capabilities.. )
5 - Apogee One ( heard some VERY NICE sounding recordings on Soundcloud even if slightly + expensive.. )
since soldering ISN'T such a problem for me, i'll start by getting a 3.5mm male plug on the end of a guitar cable to try out how plugging directly into the iMac works....& having that going on, i can go back to agonising over which interface ! ;-)
my problem basically is that there are no instrument shops anywhere near where i live to try out, get advice OR exchange if push comes to shove - sometimes it feels like i live in the Kalahari..
so, i'm buying it online & wanted to hear from people with the same kind of computer/bass/etc..who bought one or the other & have some ''hands on experience'', in order to avoid the ''buy & return dance'' which is SO frustrating & expensive in the long run, you know what i mean ?

Looking for a way to get bass line tracks...

I am trying to become a more serious drummer. I haven't sat down at a set since I joined the Army four years ago. I want to get back into it. I had a good friend that played bass and I feel most comfortable playing when all I hear is the bass. What I would like is to have just a bass line to any song: a published song or even something that anyone laid down.
I would appreciate it if anyone could direct me to where I can gain access to this sort of download. Or if perhaps one of you could hook me up.

You could search around the web for MIDI files of popular songs, drop one into the GB timeline, and mute or delete every track but the bassline.
Or, of course, you could make your own song with just basslines by dragging Bass loops into the GB timeline.

Realistic Bass samples?

I am somewhat a newbie to GarageBand.
I've been playing around with the new "Drummer" that just came-out in GarageBand 10
and I love how realistic it sounds!
However, if I try to play bass using my maudio keyboard,
the stock bass sounds in GarageBand don't sound very realistic to me.
I don't need anything exotic, just a simple but realistic sounding
Rock/Pop Bass Guitar sound.
Any ideas for perhaps third party samples or plug-ins?
I'm using a current macmini with mavricks, i5, 8Gb Ram and ssd.

Yes, but they're still from acoustic sources... everything ends up in the digital realm, it's not exactly the same as using a synth is it! Sampling when done well can be very very effective.

Help! The screen on my iPod Touch is stuck on white!

Well I was having problems with the volume control, and then the whole thing just crashed. It still strangely plays music, but the screen is white. What do I do?

Mine froze on a white screen today. Just before it did it, it went onto the Clock screen (Don 't know wy it was on clock, I may have just touched it bt accident, I had just gone back to the home screen from Calendar) a pop up appeared with a mini music display, there was a play button, forward/back buttons, track details, volume control and 2 buttons underneath, entitled 'CLOSE' and 'MUSIC', I can't remember which order I pressed the buttons, the first one did nothing, the second changed it from the Clock page to the Album listing page, but still with the same pop up screen on top .
Pressing the Home button didn't take me back to the home screen, it did nothing. It then went to a white screen and all I could do was sleep and wake it. I held down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for a long time, the Silver Apple logo appeared and sat there for a couple of minutes, and then it was back to normal.
My wife's identical iPod did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, we didn't get it as far as doing this re-set (didn't hold the buttons long enough?) so to save time we docked it and re-set it via iTunes. This worked fine, and iTunes backed it all up before re-setting, then put it all back as it was, though this took longer than re-setting using Home and Sleep/Wake buttons.
Both iPods are 10 weeks old and on the 2.2 firmware. I may call support as they are still inside the 90 day period.

Having a hard time lining up the audio to the video with FCPX.

I'm having a hard time lining up the audio to the video with FCPX.
I'll just advise what I am doing.
I have recorded video of me playing bass guitar along to a song.
I have recorded the video in 720p with a DSLR.
I have recorded the bass guitar audio directly into Garageband (Using a USB interface) on a separate track to the song that I am playing along to. (It is played very well and is not out of time to the original)
I then mix the original song and the new bass guitar audio played by myself and export as an AIF in Garageband.
I import the video from the DSLR and AIF audio into Final Cut Pro X (10.0.5)
I can get the audio and video NEARLY bang on to timing, but its still ever so slightly off. As its ever so ever so slightly off it looks like I'm not really playing the bass guitar myself.
I'm moving the audio intricately but I just cant seem to get it lined up EXACTLY.
My camera picked up a tiny bit of audio so I can hear and see the audio wav on the video track to try and line it up with the audio wav of the AIF, but no matter what I just cant get it to line up and look exactly right.
Can anyone offer any advise or tips?

Make sure you have Snapping switched off.
Expand the timeline to see the detail.
Rather than lining it up manually you could try the Automatic Audio Synch if there is any audio on the original video.

I have a MacBook Pro 2006 and installed Windows 7 on it with BootCamp no problem, but the thing is on Windows, there is no sound.

Hello there everybody! I have installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2006 15' without any problems, and without any modification. I did hear that some users couldn't install it, but I have got it working fine with BootCamp 4.0.1 on Lion. So anyways, when I boot into Windows, there is no soudn, and there is also a Red Light coming from the Earphone/Headphone jack.
What should I do? This problem is really ticking me off because I only insalled Windows to lay some games my friend recommended to me. With no sound, it would be really strange playing them, especially Mass Effect.

Well I / we always kind of assume that someone did all the normal basics first and is still having trouble. And read the instructions in Boot Camp Assistant.

URGENT! Audio Output on Administrator A/C is distorted, Guest A/C fine?!

Hey All
My sound just went all strange; very bass-y in iTunes/Logic & the DVD i am watching
Yet sound from a Youtube video/net audio is fine
when i log into my Guest account the problem is gone...so what can i do in my main account settings to fix this?

also, make sure your audio material is 16bit/48khz.
If all this is as it should be, have you changed/updated QT? FCP? OSX?

CS3 H264 Export Issues

I have got an Issue with exported videos through Premiere Pro CS3. I know I am using an old version but I felt no need to upgrade.
I am facing an issue I haven't faced before. I am exporting a video (no footage, just one music track with still images with fades and effects); when I play the video back in all media players, I get strange play back issues. The preview before export plays fine, so it is definitely after the export. The first time I exported the video, it would play find up until a certain point, the video would seem to freeze but the audio contiunes. When I skip through the video, the sync issues become worse. I though if I just played through the who video with no skipping, maybe it would be fine. But it would always freeze at a certain point. I thn exported the video again, this time it was 1080p. I had the same issue but not it was even worse. The video would freeze much earlier in the video. I though possibly I was having issues with playback on my computer, if I uploaded the video to youtube, it would playback properly. There are still issues with playback on youtube, the first 3 minutes seem to be cut off, and at the end of the video, the video would finish, but there would be another 3 or 4 minutes left to allow the music track to end. I am getting audio sync problems but not in the tradition sense, where maybe they are playing at different speeds. The problems seem to be much more complex and the video just freezes at certain point. It;s all very confusing and hard to explain, and I have found no help. I am thinking maybe it's codec problems, but this is the first I have encountered it.

The timeline wasn't pre rendered, but I have never done that and never faced problems before.

As you can see, the tracks do not match up with the songs, if you skip to 41:06, the video starts it's outtro, but there is about 4 minutes left to allow the audio track to finish.

For the jerkiness go to your preferences and change the live draw to delayed, or if that doesn't help, maybe never. The place to go is Edit > Preferences > General.
When you try to past from CS3 to CS5 do you have both open in CS5? Might sound a dumb question but if you have one open in CS3 and one in CS5 it isn't going to work, so even if you have a document you want to keep in CS3 for the purposes of copying just open it in CS5, it wil convert to a CS5 document and you will be able to copy and paste between them.
One last tip, when converting docs to CS5 from CS3, particularly larger ones, there have been quite a few reports of instability, sometimes leading to corruption, but mind you we only see the problems on this forum. To prevent this happening the best route is to export from CS3 to inx format and open that in CS5. YOu can do that automatically with whole folders (and sub-folders) of files with the batch convertor script that is my latest favourite, it is made by Peter Kahrel and is free, you'll find it here. With that you can use it in CS3 to convert a whole batch to inx, then use it in CS5 to convert those inx files to CS5 indd. Super handy, really fast, and great for mass exports too.
