Strangeness: Connecting to internet with 10.3.9 vs 10.4.2/3 via bluetooth.

Hi peoples,
I was wondering if you could help?
I've been connecting to the internet wirelessly for years now, just bought a new phone (Samsung D500 3G and use the DBT 120 Rev.4 adaptor) and have noticed a strange anomaly in that when I connect using 10.3.9 (I dual-boot on my laptop) the connection speed in absolutely fine but when I try to connect using 10.4.3 (and before with 10.4.2) VERY RARELY do I get a decent connection speed.
Sometimes, if I disconnect and connect quite a few times it seems to sort itself out but you can never tell if this will work and sometimes even after connecting and disconnecting up to 10 times it still doesn't correct itself.
The strangest thing is that 'https' sites load fine but I have the problems with almost all normal 'http' sites.
This ISN'T a problem in 10.3.9.
Although I've heard this might be a problem starting with 10.4.0 I'm sorry if this is a commonly known bug but I searched through the 16 pages here and didn't see anything.
Kind regards,
Robin

Are you using the same modem script?

If the message that is displaying is "Network connection timed out", disable any Anti-Virus or Firewall software on the comptuer or check with the company that supports the product on how to modify it to allow iTunes to connect to the Internet.

Since the MacBook Pro currently works, you should put it next to the iMac and compare the network settings for AirPort in System Preferences Network pane Advanced. Also, if you want to start off with the default network settings, you can use Location drop down menu and select +Edit Locations+. Then click the plus sign to create a new location. Set up that new location.
On System Preferences Network pane, AirPort should appear at the top of the list (in the sidebar). To change the service order, click on the gear icon and select +Set Service Order+.
Some additional tests you can try, on top of seeing if it works with (1) WEP security disabled and (2) a direct wired connection to the router.
If you get it to work with either (1) or (2), be sure to run Software Update at least two times to apply any recent updates from Apple. See if that makes any difference to using AirPort with WEP back on.
    (3) Start up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
I don't know if any third-party software has been installed on the iMac at this point, but Safe Mode will start up with only the essential Apple extensions and processes running. See if it works any better in Safe Mode.
    (4) Create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. Try connecting with AirPort in the new account.
    (5) Connect the MacBook Pro to the router with a wired Ethernet connection. Make sure its Internet access works. On System Preferences Sharing pane, set it up for +Internet Sharing+ so that it is set to +Share your connection from Ethernet - To computers using AirPort+. On the iMac, try to connect to that wireless network and access the Internet.
That last one (5) may be a good one to try first. It would at least show that the iMac's AirPort is working - you can even set it up to use WEP. If you have any questions about using the +Internal Sharing+ feature, please ask.

  • Canny connect to internet with airport express

I was connected to internet with wireless network using airport xpress and D-link DSL-300T cable modemeverything was fine till i did base station fireware update. Now i can only connect wired with usb modem, (my airtunes still works). Airport status is green and states i am connected to internet via ethernet _though safria is unable to find server. Have tried loads of things but to no success. Tried network assist but network password invalid? though it is correct! Also done hard reset on xpress no joy.
Any mac guru s fancy a challenge!?
    Pls.

Likely your ISP uses the PPPoE protocol to connect to clients - and PPPoE doesn't work properly with firmware version 6.2 for the Airport Express.
Downgrade the firmware on your Airport Express back to version 6.1.1 with this software:

I am a new user of Ipod touch 5th gen 32 gig I cannot connect to internet with usb?

    Hi bikernblondie,
When you say that you're trying to connect to the internet with USB, do you mean that you're trying to connect your iPod to the internet so that you can surf the internet with a browser on your iPod, or that you're trying to connect your iPod to your computer so that you can sync it with iTunes and bring over songs, movies, apps, etc.?

I can connect to internet with my MBP through Airport Extreme, but my iOS devices can't. Please help.

GerleMan, Welcome to the discussion area!
    There are two probably causes:
Your ISP is blocking the port used by Entourage to send mail and the ISP used by the other wireless networks is not.
    OR
Your ISP doesn't like OS X's default MTU seting of 1500. If this were the case it should also affect any large file transfers you try to make from your Mac to the Internet.

Ok..So you mean still cannot accessing the website with Internet connection? Try to use nslookup in command prompt to check whether can resolve domain name correctly. Also make sure you can ping the router's LAN IP from computer.
If not, you can try to use the following DNS servers from OpenDNS.com:
    208.67.220.220
    208.67.222.222

1.Turn Off / Uncheck  your Mobile Network
    2. Enable Wi-fi if theres a WEP just put in it.
    3. Data Service should be ON - can be found on Mobile Network Options

  • Can no longer connect to internet with wireless router.

For almost a year I've had a wrt54g ver 6 connected on my computer with my cable modem and my sons computer with the compatible pci card. Everything worked fine until a few days ago, I came home and could not get on the internet with my computer. My son could, but not me. I didn't change anything at all. So I reinstalled the router drivers and I still can't connect to the internet, but now neither can the other computer. What could be the problem?
    michele

it sounds like you might have to clone the mac address of the computer that was originally connected to the cable modem. clone mac address can be found on setup tab after log into router.

  • How to connect to internet with sim 2 in XL

XL doesn't give option to connect internet with sim 2. When I turn on mobile data it always connect with sim 1. All time I have to go to settings to connect with sim 2 after connected with sim 1. Is there any way to choose sim when I'm turning on mobile data?

The user guide gives you this..
By default, your phone asks you which SIM to use for the connection. You can also set the default SIM for calls, messaging, and mobile data connections.
Select which SIM to use for calls and messaging
Tap Settings icon > Dual SIM.
    Switch Always ask to OFF.
Select which SIM to use for calls and messaging.
Select which SIM to use for mobile data connections
Tap Settings icon > Mobile data and networks, and select which SIM to use for mobile data connections.
    Availability of SIMs
You can use 2G or 3G SIMs in both SIM1 and SIM2 slots, but the SIM2 slot supports 2G network only.
When you set one SIM to be used for outgoing calls or messages, or for data connections, the other SIM can still receive calls or messages.
When one SIM is having an active connection, the other SIM is not available.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • Not able to connect to Internet with TC

Hi, trying to change my network set up and my TC not allowing me to connect to Internet.
    I have
Motorola modem SB6121 connected to Comcast as ISP and working fine
TC connected to modem and via Ethernet cable to my mac mini (OS10.7.5)
Connecting to Internet on TC using DHCP
Network is on router mode DHCP and NAT though suspect this is not the issue.
    Time cable has green light
Internet is amber on airport utility.
Any help or advise much appreciated.
    Tks

So, I went through **** too with the SB6121 and my relativel new Time Capsule (2TB ME177LL/A). I had an adsl-2 network with the timecapsule as the router (in DHCP/NAT Mode)feeding to a NETGEAR ProSAFE 16-Port Fast Ethernet Desktop Switch (FS116) which distributed ip addressed to  hardwired ethernet outlets through out the building.
Everything was fine until yesterday when I upgraded the net to faster COMCAST Business service. The tech installed everything and we connected the ethernet from the SB6121 to my timecapsule and nothing. I fooled around and in bridge mode it would work but not in DHCP/NAT. I went through every possible reconfiguration, reset, shut down, web search I could. There is ZERO info on the Web about this problem. Spent three hours or more on it yesterday. This morning I broke the code.
disconnect the devices, e.g. remove the ethernet connection between the two devices
connect a mac directly to the SB6121 and reset to factory default
    enter 192.168.100.1
    go to configurations
    choose reset to factory defaults
disconect the mac from the SB6121
Go back to the time capsule
using airport untility (6.3.2), connect to Time Capsule
    go to the internet tab
select Static on the "Connect Using" pull down
tab to each data entry field and ERASE the contents of the fields
    choose UPDATE
after update is complete go back and set connect using to DHCP
be suure you have Router Mode set the DHCP and Nat
    choose UPDATE again
now plug the ethernet from the SB6121 into the WAN port on the Time Capsule
    Voila !!! It worked.
Good luck to all of you.

  • Cannot get MacBook to connect to internet with Airport Extreme

Starting this in a new thread so it doesn't get lost:
I'm having a similar issue as a previous poster. I got the AEBS set up and working on my PC (running XP)--light was green, able to connect to internet. However, when I tried to connect using my MacBook it would not connect. It was telling me "ethernet not connected" and "firewire not connected". Already updated my OS to Snow Leopard. I wanted to switch from my previous wifi connection (belkin--no security code) to the AEBS, but I wound up having to switch back after trying to figure this out for SEVERAL HOURS. All the connections were correct--basically just transferred over the belkin wires to the AEBS--cable modem into the AEBS WAN port and then the other connecting cable into the ethernet ports to connect the modem to the AEBS. Tried switching the cables also--neither worked in getting the wifi connected. Tried rebooting both the cable modem and the AEBS--did not fix the wifi connection issue. I am ready to return this thing if I cannot get this figured out without wasting another 6 hours. After trying to reset everything I then wound up getting an issue where I could not connect at all even though the green light was on and the cable modem's lights were all on and I got an error code: error-6753. Again tried rebooting everything, but still had the same error code. I have unplugged the blasted thing, reset my Belkin so I can at least get back on-line and connect with the MacBook as well. Any suggestions? Not familiar with techie language.
UPDATE--just looked on the MacBook again to see how the belkin is connected. It says "airport connected", "ethernet not connected", "firewire not connected": same as when I had the AEBS set up. Airport connected was indicated with the AEBS also. Able to connect with the belkin, but not the AEBS on the MacBook. HELP

    Thanks for the clarification.
You know that you need to reset the cable modem whenever you change the device that it is connected to, correct? Push the reset button, power off the modem, (and pull the battery if it's easily accessible). The power down can be a few minutes to 30-60 depending on your provider. It's always better to leave the modem powered down longer rather than shorter if you're not sure how fast the equipment at your ISP will reset back at their offices.
You're probably tired of resetting the AirPort Extreme, but I would recommend a factory default reset to clear everything out and start fresh.
Power off the AirPort Extreme (AEBS)
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power back into the AEBS
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light blink more quickly, hold another second or two when you see this, and then release.
Connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN (circle icon) port on the AEBS. I also suggest that you temporarily connect another ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports until you have the device configured.
Open AirPort Utility and click Continue to follow the guided setup. On the 3rd or 4th window, you'll be asked how you want to configure the device. Choose the "Create a wireless network" option and continue to follow the setup until you Update the AEBS. You should have a green light in 20-30 seconds.
For now, keep the ethernet cable connected from the LAN port to your computer and open your browser to check and see if you can get an internet connection. If so, then disconnect the ethernet cable and click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen to see if you can locate the name of wireless network you created and log on.
Please post back on your progress or questions.
