Strangers keep contacting me.

I have adjusted ALL of my privacy settings so only my contacts can send me messages/call me. However, I am still receiving many contact requests and messages from strangers. I block all of them, but it's extremely annoying as I receive around five per day. One person I talked to told me that I had a feature called "Skype Me." I looked around and can't find anything that is called "Skype Me." How do I turn off this feature, and how do I get strangers to stop contacting me?

Here is more information regarding "Skype Me!":
https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA442/What-is-SkypeMe-reg-mode
What is SkypeMe!® mode?
SkypeMe! is no longer supported in Skype for Windows, though it is still accessible in Skype for Mac 2.8 and earlier.
SkypeMe! mode lets everyone else on Skype know that you are available and interested in chatting. This includes people who you don't know, or you have not shared contact requests with. SkypeMe! mode temporarily disables your privacy settings and allows anyone to contact you, whether you've OK'd them or not. Your privacy settings are restored as soon as you leave SkypeMe! mode.
To change your status to or from SkypeMe! mode on earlier versions of Skype for Mac OS X, go to Account > Change Status and then click SkypeMe!
Continuing from where my colleague Primemover left off:
To avoid most nuisance and unsolicited contact invitations, check not only your privacy settings, but also incoming audio call, video call, and instant message settings to ensure your settings are adjusted to receive calls/IM's from people on your Contact list only.
Addition: Please remember to Save your settings before you leave each screen/window!
Also, in your Profile, check the information you have input as viewable by the public and by your contacts only.  For the ladies, I now recommend deleting any reference to Gender - choose Not Specified on the drop-down menu.
Even after "locking down" your preferences and your profile, a few random contact requests may still appear.
Best regards,
Elaine

  • How do I go about keeping Contacts and Apps Separate on 2 Smartphones on my Account?

I may be over thinking this.  I have two phones, a Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 active on the same account each having their own phone number. When backing up and storing contacts and apps,  I would like to keep each separate from the S3 and vice versa.  Do I have to create separate gmail account and google play account?  Also when backing up on the S3 it says I have to login using my Verzion account, but I do not want that info on the S3.  Thanks

For backing up through MyVerizon, you DO need a separate MyVerizon login for each number.  The primary phone will have access to both lines for adding/removing features etc, but NOT to the contacts and ringtones/ringbacks/music purchased for the other line.  TO set this up, log out of MyVerizon, then REGISTER the other number for a username and password. If it says the account is already registered, clear cookies and cache, or use another browser to set up the second account.
You can then run and use backup assistant for each number, keeping contact lists and media purchases separate.
It probably would be better to have a separate Google account for each device as well.  I have my tablet (Samsung Galaxy 7") and phone (Motorola Droid 4) on the same Google Apps so I can load apps on both (or one or the other) from the playstore on my computer.  But in your case, it would make more sense to have separate accounts for the two lines.

  • Is it possible to keep Contact List and Address Book seperate on iPhone?

I just made the switch today- big time – from Motorola to iPhone, and from PC to iMac, plus a Macbook Air as well for travel. Thanks to iphone and Mac forums I have been able to resolve most newbie issues and have exported my data, files and contacts without problem.
However there is one issue I have not been able to resolve or clarify:
    - My old phone contact list has now been transferred my new iPhone, consisting of about 100 phone numbers which I use regularly.
    - Address Book in my new iMac contains about 800 contacts including phone numbers, clients, etc, as well as personal bank account numbers, and other confidential data in the “Notes” field, which I need to refer to only occasionally.
But I understand that if I sync my iPhone with my Mac, it will merge my Address Book contacts on Mac, with the phone contacts on my iPhone Contact list, into one list. Is this true? Is it not possible to maintain 2 separate Apps on my iPhone, i.e
    1. The iPhone Contact list for frequently used telephone contacts, and
    2. The Mac Address Book with more detailed notes and account numbers, which I only need to refer to occasionally?
    3. If this is possible, can I configure it so that a password is required each time the Address Book on iPhone is accessed? (I realise I can configure the iphone to require a pin when turned on), but I would like a password to access the Address App because of the confidential data. Previously I had all this data contained on a Palm Zire 72 handheld and its PC Desktop counterpart, where a password was required to access.
From what I’ve read on the forums, it will be very cumbersome to have a phone contact list with 1000 names on it, so I want to keep phone contacts simple with phone numbers only. (I realise I can set up Group folders in Address Book, but this is not what I need). I'm also concerned about having confidential information on my iPhone which can be accessed without a password for that particular application. I intend to get MobileMe but that also does not address the issue of keeping Telephone Contacts seperate from Address Book on iPhone.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Speculating:
if, as already suggested, you use the Groups function to sync only the 100 contact list numbers, then how to get the expanded Address Book?
I've not used it myself, but Bento might be worth looking into--Bento on the Mac pulls your Address Book data (I'm pretty sure) and syncs to Bento iPhone.
I don't recall hearing about any alternate phone books, but since pretty much any program on the Mac can hook into the Address Book, you might look at the more powerful note organizers to see if any of them pull that data?
You might have a problem getting notes added on the phone back into Address Book on the Mac, though.
I actually right now keep my main address book in MS Entourage (similar to Outlook), and only use the Mac Address Book to sync to the iPhone. I could sync Entourage to Address Book, but I don't--haven't sorted out the data yet, and I don't really need all the same numbers in both places.
If that sounds possible, you might look at Mark/Space and Missing Sync for iPhone---something like keeping all 800 contacts in Entourage, and syncing them all, but moving the confidential portion of each contact into Entourage Notes and syncing those via Missing Sync, perhaps might work. (I think you can link a contact to a note in Entourage)
An interesting problem. You might also send feedback to Apple:
    http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
as this is really not a usage scenario they've planned for. They probably don't care, though--doesn't seem all that common.

  • How can I keep Contacts in sync with CardDAV?

    Hello,
I am trying to find a way to automatically keep my contacts (and calendars, but will focus on contacts here) in sync with external devices.
Currently I have host a CardDAV server using Owncloud. I have my OS X Contacts linked to the CardDAV account, but this results in TWO separate databases of contacts. The local one and the CardDAV one. I have found no easy way to keep them in sync. I need the remote one in order to sync other (Android) devices to it.
So I am now looking at using OS X Server and ditching Owncloud. Just having the local contacts share from a local OS X Server. With Server being only $20, I am fine with going that way. As I don't really need my data synced to the cloud. It's fine to sync over my local network.
For some smart Apples out there... I have a few questions:
    1) Is there a way to keep local contacts and remote CardDAV contacts synchronised?
    2) (...if not) Is there a way to use OS X Server to run as a CardDAV server which my other devices can then access over the local network?
I have installed Server. And I activated sharing of contacts. But I could find no info/instructions on how to access that from a client device. What is the server URL for the CardDAV server?
Thank you for helping with this. Very keen to get all my devices sharing their data WITHOUT using third-party services like Google, etc.

You're right. Now that I think through it, I'm not sure it is possible as you have duplicates.
There is a "Look for Duplicates" command, but I think it limits itself to duplicates in the same account.
You could export all of the On My Mac contacts to vCard, then delete them out of Contacts.
Then, go into Contacts Preferences and set you CardDAV server as default.
Double-click the exported vCard to import. It should try to import them into your CardDAV server.
Click the button to Review Duplicates when the import dialog appears.
You can then click the Apply to All checkbox and choose Keep Old. That should import all the non-duplicates and leave the originals on the cardDAV server account.
I would then run the Look for Duplicates with the CardDAV account selected in Contacts group pane. If you have any that were not identified as duplicates during the import, you should find them with that.
As to the Server, there is a Server forum, here. You might ask there.

  • HT204053 3 iphones, 3 ipods and a pad...can we share music while keeping contacts and photos seperate but backed up with 1 apple id and 1 icloud?

I have an apple id account set up with an icloud; I would like to continue to share the music from my devices while keeping the contacts and photos seperate, is this possible?  My wife and daughter received iphones for Christmas, I set up my daughters phone to my cloud and all of my contacts and photos ended up on her phone. Is there a way to keep them seperate in 1 cloud (with folders or something) or does each phone need its own icloud? And if so, can we still keep 1 apple id for music purchases or will we not be able to share music anymore? Thank you for any help you can provide, I am confused with all of this as we are fairly new to the apple world.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes and iCloud are separate things. You can keep using a single ID for iTunes and use separate ID's for iCloud, thereby keeping mail, contact etc separate.

  • How can I keep contact list separate on 2 phones on the same iTunes account

I have 2 iPhones and 2 iPads on the same ITunes account. How can I keep my contact list separate on each device?

    You need to go to
    Setting
    Mail,contacts,calendars
Go to each email and unselect contacts.
Once this is complete all the contacts you add on the devices will stay local. Downfall of this is when you get a new phone you will not be able to transfer data to new phone unless you use computer to back it up

  • How to keep contacts on iPhone w/out sync?

Hi, I am new to iPhone.
I set up a Microsoft Exchange account on the iPhone for my work email, via Entourage. I also imported my (all personal) contacts from my previous SIM card.
Upon Sync, this loaded all my personal contacts into the "Contacts" folder in my work Exchange account. So now all my private information is on the server at my job, right? I really don't like this. Especially if I lose my job... will I be then unable to have my personal contacts on my iPhone because I don't have access to the company server?!
I am thoroughly confused. Please, someone... how do I go about keeping my personal information on my iPhone without it being held on my employer's server? From all I've read, contacts are not stored on the iPhone and are only available via Sync. Seems the only place it will sync from is Exchange or Mobile Me (which I can't afford). And you're only allowed one Exchange account. If that's really the case, I'll probably have to ditch the iPhone idea.
    Thanks!

OK try this but it assumes you have access to your work PC and all your contacts are on the work PC.
It also assumes you have iTunes on your work PC, if you don't this won't work.
    1. delete the exchange account on iPhone.
    2. sync locally to your work pc
    3. sync locally to your home pc
    4. remake the exchange account on iPhone
Now you have a back up of all the contacts at home, and can use that incase you leave your current employer. You'll just need to repeat this every so often to make backups.
If you don't have iTunes on the work PC and all your contacts are now on the work PC then you could just export your contacts as a CSV (or something which can be imported into Entourage) from your Work PC. Or send contacts as vCards to your Home PC email to get a backup at home. When you make a new contact you'll just have to remember to either send a vCard to your home account or make a new CSV backup.
However! Exchange support is coming to Snow Leopard in September and this may solve all this. It needs Exchange server 2007 to work so if your work is using that you could be OK.
There are other solutions like Sync-Em which maybe worth looking at, but it will cost ya .
Personally I have the dilema but I just maintain my contacts on my iPhone and sync locally. It means you can't access your work's global address book, but for me this isn't a problem.

  • Keeping Contacts & Apps when syncing iPhone with new computer

I just got a new netbook with Windows 7 Starter. I would like to transition from using my current work laptop to the netbook as the manager of my iPhone. When I try to sync my iPhone with the new computer it says that my iPhone's library is linked to another computer. It appears that all of my contacts and apps will be erased if I sync these items on the netbook.
Does anyone know a way that I can keep this information without erasing? I already erased my music content from the iPhone. I foresee a real problem since this netbook doesn't have Outlook and all my contact information is in that format. I also don't want to have my apps all wiped out. Thanks for the help.

iTunes content can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer, and photos can be transferred to the iPhone via the iTunes sync process from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from your iPhone first.
No other content is touched or erased when doing so including iPhone contacts especially if you don't select to sync contacts with a supported application on a new computer.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. If you haven't activated the new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes, you should do so before doing this.
With Windows, contacts can be synced with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with calendar events, or with Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
If you don't have Outlook 2003 or 2007 available on the new computer, you will have Windows Contacts available. Before syncing contacts with Windows Contacts, enter one contact in Windows Contacts. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync with Windows Contacts, which you want to select.
There is no Outlook format or Apple address book format with contacts. You can sync contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007 or with Windows Contacts on a PC, and sync contacts with Apple's address book on a Mac.
Contact, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks can be synced with the supported applications on multiple computers. With two Windows computers, with two Macs, or with a Windows computer and a Mac.

  • Is it possible to keep contacts on my iphone that are not included in the cloud?

I am using icloud to sync company contacts between all users.  Is it possible for someone to keep their contacts on their Iphone and still use the cloud without losing their personal contacts or syncing them into the cloud?
In other words, we are using the cloud company wide for the contacts information - which is stored on a Maverick computer.  The owner would like to sync her Iphone with the cloud, but not lose her personal contacts on her phone.  Meanwhile, she does not want her personal contacts synced with the cloud.
How can I accomplish this task?

Have her create a second ("secondary") iCloud account on your phone by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud, entering her Apple ID (a different one than is being used for the company iCloud account), the turn on contacts syncing with this account.  After doing this she can then sign into the company iCloud account in Settings>iCloud and turn on contacts syncing there as well.  Both contact lists will appear on her phone but her personal contacts will only sync with the secondary account which only she will have access to.  She can easily filter her view to see only the company or personal contacts by opening the contacts app on her phone, tapping Groups, then tap each of the accounts until only the one she wants to view is checked, then tap Done.
If she would rather not use iCloud at all for her personal contacts, have her set up a Gmail account on her phone (Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>Gmail) and sync her personal contacts with Gmail instead.

  • Downgrading to 3.1.2 and Keeping Contacts

I've figured out how to downgrade from the OS for my iTouch 2G from 4.0, which gives me loads of grief, to 3.1.2, but is there a way for me to keep my Contacts intact? The only backup that has my all my Contacts is the one 4.0. Thanks for any help.
PS: I probably have an older iTouch backup somewhere on my external PC hard drive, but I have no idea where to find it.

I ended up just retyping everything into Google contacts from my old (don't laugh) Palm Pilot and synched. It had the virtue of making me update everything.
What do people use to backup their Notes? I lost those too, because I didn't realize that Apple deletes the old backups (why?).
The good news is that I got rid of 4 and went back to 3.1.2. Look for the threads on how to do that -- if I could manage it, anybody can.

Is there any way to remove my Mail for Exchange account, but keep the contacts?
Everytime I remove the mail for exchange account, the contacts get deleted, but I want them to stay on the phone.
If not, I have VCards of the contacts, can I import those?  I can't seem to be able to do this at all.

The best method would be to create another user so that way you can keep the information separate. The article below will give some other options as well.
