Strangest problem ever (USB controller makes G5 go crazy at startup)

OK, this is the strangest thing I've ever seen.
I got a new dual core G5 (2.0 ghz), and have been playing with it and setting it up all day.
At the end of the day I plug in my Playstation 1 dualshock controller via a Radioshack USB adapter. This worked well enough on my G4.
Upon the next shutdown and power on, the G5 fails to display video. Hard drive grinds away, then the internal fans go on hyperspeed. Nothing else. Gotta force it to turn off.
I go through a painful process of elimination and narrowed it down to the Playstation USB controller adapter. No controller plugged in, G5 boots like a champ.
What the?? How is this even possible?
The controller even works if I plug it in and use it while the G5 is turned on. But if it's plugged in at startup, the G5 goes nuts.
How utterly strange....

hi allen
did you resolve the issue?
i have the same problem on my new G5, am about to go through similar process of elimination, all devices worked fine yesterday!!! now can only boot up with keyboard and mouse attached...
any ideas why this happens anyone?

  • The strangest problem ever!

There is a certain website I visit (it's a password protected company website so I can't post it here) and if I connect using Virgin Media ISP, after clicking about half a dozen links Safari locks up.
If I close Safari and change broadband connections to a different ISP and do the same thing again, there is no locking up. It works fine.
Also, if I change to Chrome or Firefox on either ISP there is no problem.
The problem only exists with this one ISP and with Safari only.
It's crazy but how can that be possible?
Any things I test to locate the problem?

    Hi,
Empty the Safari cache either from the menu bar or Command + Option + E
And try troubleshooting the keychain associated with that site.
    Quit Safari.
    Open Keychain Access /Applications/Utilities
Select Password on the left. Delete the keychain for the site.
Relaunch Safari. Go to Safari / Preferences - Autofill. Make sure *User names and passwords* is selected.
Navigate to the site and see if that made a difference, if not go back to Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete all cookies related to the site and the site again.

  • Strangest Problem Ever

hey, about a month ago i posted that i could not start up my ibook g4 anymore, froze at loading screen.
i gave the computer to my father to look at and he has made a discovery, the ibook only starts when it is quite cold?
any ideas why this is, how it is fixed etc?
    cheers, jonny

Does putting pressure on the area just below the left command/alt keys (that is clamp it solidild with your thumb and fingers around the base of the unit) result in booting?
If so you might be adding yourself to the list of those with the failed BGA on the logic board problem.
Otherwise temperature will have a big effect on any breaks anywhere in the laptop due to the differnt materials expanding and contracting pushing cracks in the boards or wiring closed or apart.

    Hi,
The first suggestion I'd make is to try downloading and reinstalling the switchable graphics driver on the following link as it lists a fix for WIDI.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-114949-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
When the reinstallation has com[pleted, restart the notebook.
If you find this has not corrected the issue, try the download available from Intel on the link below.

16 mo young Mac Pro will not turn on. Dead. Why. No problems ever! Installed Yosemite and did not boot up after. Did that kill it? To young to die. What happened?what do I do now??????? Help!

Note that you don't have a Mac Pro as stated. Your profile says you have a MacBook Pro. Please clarify as they are entirely different computers. If nothing below works for you, then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Neo2 Plat USB controller

This may get rather long winded... so I appologise in advance!
Ok, so the other day I got an Ipod Nano, and upon trying to get my computer to recognise the device, I realised that my USB drivers were not 2.0 yet.
Now, I have Windows XP Pro installed, with it automatically updated with all the latest patches including SP2, and after a bit of reading I found that I needed to manually tell it to update the USB drivers in device manager.
My device manager was showing 3 USB controllers and their associated Root Hubs. Now for each of these I let it automatically find the appropriate driver after selecting 'Update driver'. However, only one of them actually updated to a Nvidia USB2 controller, the other two retained their current drivers. The problem was that the one Controller that updated to USB2 drivers, wasnt' associated with any of the USB ports that I could plug my Nano into (ie the 4 on the mother board, and another two built into the case and plugged into the motherboard).
So now I assumed (whether correctly or incorrectly I don't know) that all the controllers should have been able to update to the USB2 drivers. In my attempt to get them to do this, I now chose to uninstall all the USB Controller and Root Hub drivers, and restart the system to allow windows to recognise and install the appropriate drivers itself.
     - This is where my current troubles started.
Upon restarting my system and logging into windows, it recognised that it required USB Controller drivers to be installed, and I chose to let it automatically find the best drivers (I had the driver CD that came with the mobo in the CD drive at the time).
However it could not find any appropriate drivers for the first two USB controllers, and found and installed the Nvidia USB2 Controller for the third one (the same one that orginially updated its driver for me I assume).
Now with no drivers installed for two of the host controllers, and unable to find any USB ports associated with the third, my MX500 mouse is no longer detected by windows (it was plugged in through out the process, and I have tried repeating the process without the mouse plugged in to no avail, it still won't detect the mouse when I plug it back in).
Now, I have tried multiple restarts, and repeating the process in hope that the appropriate driver will be found a second time, I have tried manually installing the Nvidia USB2 Controller driver on all three of the USB controllers. But even after doing this, windows would still not recognise my mouse or my housemates G5, and the only other USB device I can test them with is my new Nano, which kicked off this whole thing when it wasn't being detected to start with!
I have tried reinstalling the motherboard drivers that came with it, but nothing changed.
I also tried reinstalling my mouse drivers, as well as reseting my CMOS to defaults, but neither of these worked.
Does anyone have any suggestion at all to a fix, or where I can source appropriate drivers to try and fix this, even if they are the original non-USB2.0 drivers installed(stupidly, I forgot to write down the names of these drivers before uninstalling them...)?
Or is a re-install of windows required?
    Appropriate system details are:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - Bios v1.9
Windows XP Pro - Updated to with all the latest patches including SP1 and SP2.
    Logitech MX500 mouse.
Again, sorry for the long winded post, I am just trying to cover all bases, and explain exactly what I did, and have tried. Knowing my luck with computers, the only way this will be rectified is with a full format... So any suggestions are much appreciated.

I realise that the USB drivers provided on the CD were only for 98/me.
Are the Nvidia USB2.0 drivers I refered to it installing the 98/ME version?
However when I did the auto Update Driver, it asked for the disk containing a EHCI file of some kind, so I insterted my mobo CD thinking that it may be on it. After doing this, the installation continued and finished, announcing that the Nvidia USB2.0 Controller was now installed, if this is the Win 98/ME version then that makes sense now I suppose.
I am aware that the 'enhanced' USB drivers = 2.0, but my computer is not able to find any of those drivers, is there some possible way that uninstalling the drivers also deleted them from the windows driver archive?
As when I do a manual listing, the Nvidia ones are the only one that it can find to install for USB devices (or don't the EHCI drivers appear under the USB category in the first list?)
Currently in device manager, the two USB controllers are showing up as Unknown devices called "Universal Serial Bus Controller", not as unknown EHCI's (if thats of any relevance).
Might also try borrowing a mates Windows XP SP2 edition CD, and see if it can find the appropriate drivers on that.
Also now I am at work on a computer with a working mouse, I have been googling more on this, and the only reference I could find as to why my mouse wasn't being detected, suggests that if you leave a USB device plugged in while going through the process of uninstalling the USB drivers, then reinstalling them, it will no longer 'ever' be detected by windows, until a full windows reinstall is done. This definately coincides with what I am finding, I just wish I had other USB devices to test it with. Has anyone else ever heard of this occuring?
Thanks for your response Syar2003, appreciate it.

  • Played w/ usb controller, made a bounce, volume/pitch LOWWW

I got around to making some noises with my Alesis USB controller, and I recorded just a bunch of junk I was pressing randomly.
I was using the knobs to adjust parameters with the EFM1 instrument.
I bounced the track both as AAC and MP3, but when I play those files the volume and more specifically the pitch is extremely low, and does not sound like what I played.
I read that this might have to do with the setting of the master volume, but I have it set at 0.0 db, and have not ever touched it.
Why does the pitch/vol come out so low???

Hello all, this is not a problem you can fix this easily with some fiddling.
try this modification, originally intended for Envy with Beats, its still modifable to fit your brand and you should be getting similar effects with loud noise.

  • I Need USB Controller Drivers For My HP Pavillion g6 2235ca Notebook Running Windows 7 Pro 64bit?

So it has been at least a couple of months that I've been using my laptop with only ONE working USB port.
The other two do NOT work. If I go to Computer on the Start menu, and right-click on Computer, then Manage, then i go to Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller.
When I try to update them, Windows 7 tells me that an update could not be found blah blah blah...
This problem happened ever since I installed Windows 7 64bit over Windows 8 64bit.
So, can someone help me find drivers for this USB Controller? Or is this some kind of hardware failure or issue?
    Please help? Anyone...!
    Thank you!

  • Very slow boot due to USB controller?

    Hi all,
I bought your barebone MS-6251 with combo DVD-RW. (other params are pentium IV 2.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 120 GB HDD Seagate, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra). I already installed your LiveUpdate software.
I was absolutely satisfied with this product untill this monday (or tuesday) when my computer suddenly crashed. From that time I was not able to boot it again up, it froze after login dialog of Windows completely.
I reinstalled windows again and I was succesful and now I am working on the computer but I have following problems:
    1. I am not able to install in windows FRONT PANEL with card readers?
    2. During start up of Windows, they seems to stop for 1 minute - black screen, HDD not operating, after this long 1 minute start up process continues normally.
    3. I noticed that it is somehow connected with USB controller - when I switch it off in BIOS, everything runs quickly - of course without USB support. Immediately as I switch it on, there is this huge delay during start up.BUT THIS WAS NOT BEFORE - BEFORE CRASH MY WINDOWS STARTED IN 10 SECONDS. If I switch moreover to enable  KEYBOARD SUPPORT (USB) or MOUSE SUPPORT (USB) in bios, the delay is really catastrofic - it takes 1-2 minutes for the initial MEGAPC screen to go away and then another 1-2 minutes starting windows.
I checked my BIOS version, it was 1.0, so I tried to update to 1.1 but it is the same.
This is very annoying, I believe that you have some solution for me, otherwise I will have to return computer to my supplier.
Many thanks for you help and nice day

    Hi
Thanks for the reply. After a lot more googling- it turns out this is a general Oracle problem and is not solely related to use of the GEOMETRY column. It seems that sometimes, the Oracle optimiser makes an arbitrary decision to do bitmap conversion. No amount of hints will get it to change its mind !
One person reported a similarly negative change after table statistic collection had run.
Why changing the columns being retrieved should change the execution path, I do not know.
We have a numeric primary key which is always set to a positive value. When I added "AND primary_key_column > 0" (a pretty pointless clause) the optimiser changed the way it works and we got it working fast again.

  • How to export usb controller custom assignment settings to another computer

    Hello everybody
is there any way to export Logic 9's USB controller assignments to another computer setup, to work with same controllers bought from a local music store, with even up to 7 usb controllers in one setup? This way, with a preference export file type of method, time would be saved lightyears by just choosing some "import settings file" function and *click*, every pot in those multiple controllers would do the intended function on the other system too.
    Example scenario,
computer 1)  MacBook + 7 different usb controllers wanted to by exported assignment-wise (2 x Behringer BCF2000 and 3 x BCR2000, Presonus Faderport and Novation Nocturn
computer 2)  MacBook Pro + 7 different usb controllers wanted to be exported assignment-wise (2 x Behringer BCF2000 and 3 x BCR2000, Presonus Faderport, Novation Nocturn + some other random USB controller in the chain also (wanted to be left outiside any assignment compromises)
I don't know what information of controller devices Logic saves into different files for recalling purposes, and how accurate device-identifying-wise the assignment files are, but how could I make "computer 2" controllers do the same fader/vpot/button functions as on "computer 1" using those same products over there, and still leave that existing extra eight'd controller on "computer 2" left as it is/was?
Ps. If there IS a file exportable for instant multi-controller configuring this scale, does the actual physical connecting order into USB hubs (all these devices could even by connected via single USB-hub cable into MacBook?) change the file's workability, I mean if I'd swap a few controllers into each other's places on the USB hub, would that smoke that preference file's workability whole together then?

  • 890FXA-GD65 and possible USB Controller related issue?

Hi all - Been having a bad time of it with a new system build for a little under a month now.  Have tried to capture my "notes" below, any idea of a root cause?  Is anyone aware of known issues with the board; the board and Windows 7; the board and some other component(s)?
My issue:  During Windows 7 x64 installation or startup, the system will freeze at the "Starting Windows" screen.
    My system specifications:
MOTHERBOARD: MSI 890FXA-GD65  (BIOS ver 18)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 555 @ stock speed  (HDZ555WFGMBOX)
    MEMORY: DDR3 1600 2X4GB G.Skill Ripjaws-X [DIMM1 & DIMM2] (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL)
VIDEO CARD: XFX Radeon HD 5670 512MB (HD-567X-YNF3)
    HARD DRIVE(s): 2 x Western Digital 500GB 7200 drive (WD5000AAVS)
POWER SUPPLY: Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W
Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate edition, retail)
This problem has existed since I first built the system and is consistently reproducable.
I am able to avoid the issue by disabling the USB Controller in BIOS prior to initiating the Windows installer.  This will allow me to proceed through Windows installation, but as soon as the USB Controller is enabled once again, the issue recurs.  Having to disable USB support is undesirable.
I'm now on my second 890FXA-GD65 motherboard, having RMA'ed the first board after a fairly brief exchange with MSI tech support(2 replies, with the eventual suggestion of RMA for a faulty USB controller).  So I went through the RMA process with the online retailer, receiving a new board today.
The problem is that the RMA replacement behaves in exactly the same manner.  Normally this would suggest to me that the problem may lie with one or more of the other components, but I've not been able to identify issues with any of them.  One obvious suggestion would be to try swapping out components, but my resources are constrained on that front - video card happens to be the only component for which I have a alternate that I can test with, actually.
As far as troubleshooting investigation, here's what I've done/observed:
    1. Windows installation/startup will succeed if the USB Controller is disabled in BIOS.
    2. The same behavior can be observed with a Windows Vista installation disk as well.
    3. When loading Windows in safe mode, the last driver file loaded was disk.sys
    4. Memtest86+ (v4.2), repeated full passes reveal no issues with the system memory.
    5. While seeming that it would be an unlikely factor, I have swapped out video cards(to an eVGA 8800 GTS 320MB), but observed the same issue still exists.
    6. Running in a single DIMM configuration affected no change.
    7. Have disconnected one or the other of the hard drives with no change.
    8. The BIOS version installed is equivalent to the latest(and only) version posted on the MSI support site.
So...any ideas on what's left to try?  I've done enough reading online to notice that I'm not the only person to have observed this behavior, but have yet to encounter any explanation of it nor a resolution.
    Any suggestions?

Trying to catch the points that weren't explicitly spoken to by me in the last attempt:
@Stu - Regarding testing with zero USB devices connected - this was done as part of troubleshooting and it has no observable effect, so I think that I can rule out a bad USB device being the culprit and I apologize for not making that clear previously.
@Frederik - I've done a little more legwork on the memory item.  Troubleshooting, for the most part, has been executed with this memory set to run as DDR1333 @ 1.5V as that is what the board auto-defaults to(the kit is rated as DDR1600 @ 1.5V)  It was at the defaulted setting that I ran memtest86+ and no errors were reported.
I've also just now made an attempt to run this memory as DDR1066 at 1.65V and still there is no change in results.  In my research on this specific kit, I have not run into accounts like mine - in the accounts that I have read regarding a poor experience with the kit, memory has either been been obviously bad, for which failures are reported in diagnostics like memtest. ...or, I suppose that there's also the random guy complaining about his overclock not working or the memory speed defaulting to the wrong value in BIOS.
Frankly, I don't want to battle any particular component and I owe no allegiance to this make of memory.  I do want to try to be objective, given that I'm stuck with these modules until I make the decision to RMA.  As such, I had read what info is available out there - prior to purchase, I hadn't noted so many reports of issues with this kit across a considerable sample size of feedback so as to cause me initial concern, or else I would have gone with a different kit/different brand.  Probably will do that anyways, next time, but in the meantime, I'm afraid of this being a distraction.  If both myself and this other person(drgan) had both been using the same memory kit, and thus it was more likely to be the common thread, I'd certainly be more inclined to this line of reasoning.  But since he's using Kingston and in the few other accounts of a system freezing on USB controller enabled status I've noted varied memory kit brands, it doesn't seem to me to be an obvious culprit.  But if not, then what's left to consider?  The other interesting factor to me is that the issue appears to be Windows-centric....but...

  • Strangest problem with psd's all of a sudden.  Any insight?

Hello everyone! Hope all are well this Saturday evening.
I've encountered the strangest problem that has seem to come out of nowhere.
DVDStudio pro has all of a sudden decided that psd's are incompatible format.
Here is the strangest part, it's doing this on 2 desktops and a laptop all with dvd studio pro.
Not only won't it let me import the new master menu psd file we've created to replace the one that was in there previously, but it won't let me import almost any psd file previously used. Even if I just create a blank psd file from scratch.
    Has anyone ever encountered this?
The psd's are in RGB btw and the message it says exactly is
    "IMPORT ASSETS
    INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT"
I tried saving as a tiff as well and same thing.
I can't think of anything that would make this happen to 3 computers!

I turned the phone off and back on. I hooked up to my computer. I can access the store but when I try to upgrade I get a messge that the phone cannot access the store. I got one of the two apps I was trying to upgrade by frist going to Purchases (in the App Update section) but the other sitll did not work and I got the same message that store cannot be accessed.

  • USB controller speed

Does anyone know how to determine the bandwidth of the on-board USB controller?  I plan to connect 3 USB 2.0 peripherals that will stream data (video) at ~250Mbits/s.  Each port is well within the 480Mbits/s USB 2.0 specification, but I can find nothing on the USB controller to memory interface (with I will need to handle ~750Mbits/s (100Mbytes/s).  I can also find nothing stating the DMA capabilities of the on-board USB controller.
Does anyone have any leads/info on this?

You should make sure each device is connected to a differant USB root HUB (each pair of ports on the board is connected to one root HUB).
Will it kame it to the memory, that depends alot on the chipset and what exactly will be going on in the process.
The southbridge with the USB controllers shares a path to the northbridge along with the PCI devices and IDE controllers so if you need HDD access at the same time it might be a problem (depending on the chipset).
