Stratchy noise with my voice over

Hi WiseMac Folks,
I'm a new iMacG% user trying to make a small doc about my Dad using some home videos and some old photos with a voice over narration in parts.
However, the voice over is marred by scratchy (sp?) noises. I'm using a Logitech USB microphone amd I've tried to move as far way from the iMac as I can do to the burrring sound of the hard drive (on the left side).
Any suggestions as to what this beleaguered middle aged former PC user should do?
Many thanks,
Mary

"..I would just record it on my camcorder and import it like usual. Just a suggestion.."
..and a very good suggestion (..I think Ken Twydell or Lennart's suggested that, too..) because that way you can watch the video on your Mac, record the v/o on the camcorder, and you're not giving iMovie a headache while it tries to both play back (video) and record (audio) at the same time - which can sometimes result in the message "The disk responded slowly". See also this similar knowledge base item specifically for iMovie HD.
G'night Karsten z-zzzz-zzz-zz

Just bought a Mac book and the set up is with the Voice over key commands, how do you switch this off as it is painfull to use and use the scroll pad?

It's the button (key) that is labelled Control.
Each of the modifier keys and similar keys has its own symbol; this makes listing command keys easier to do. The Command key is usually the only key which has its symbol printed on the key. If you open Keyboard Viewer (in the Input menu, the one which displays the flag in the main menu bar), you can see what symbol refers to which key.

Open the powerpoint presentation, on the click on the 'file' button located at the top left of the menu bar, click on 'save as' at the bottom of the window that opens you should see a dropdown format gliff that says powerpoin presentation .pptx; click on the gliff and choose 'movie.mov'

  • How to make a movie from a PowerPoint with a voice over

Hi - as the title suggest, I'd like to record a movie of a PowerPoint presentation with me providing the voice over. I'd then post this onto our company intranet for others to review the presentation.
Any ideas how I'd do this?
    Thanks

An easy way would be to export each powerpoint slide as a JPEG file. Import these into an iPhoto album. Drag the iPhoto album into your movie through the Photo Browser and add your voiceover.
It might also be possible to export your powerpoint presentation as a QuickTime movie, but it would be important to do it as a timed presentation rather than a manually advanced presentation, because iMovie will not import manual advance tracks, closed captioning tracks, chapter tracks, etc.
I have imported presentations from KeyNote but have never tried a PPT.

  • HT201406 In my Ipod touch 8GB a box like thing appears when I try to open any application along with a voice over. When I tried switching it off, it says voice over always on in the settings and makes it impossible to turn it off. pls help.

In my ipod touch, voice over is activated and when I try to turn it off in settings it says "MUSIC VOICE CONTROL ALWAYS ENABLED". this box like thing also makes it difficult for me to access all my applications or scroll. Pls tell me some suggesstions.

You have the accessibility VoiceOver feature turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see:

  • Audio suddenly stops working with my voice over although I can see the track there is no sound?

So I'm doing a project and recording voice, in several parts, over with no problems. I go to play back and it all works just fine for a few minutes then the audio suddenly cuts out. I can see all the clips with the associated graphs and can't see any issues, the audio just stops???

If it will not connect to your computer, and it will not connect to the Internet, either via WiFi or cellular data, then there is no practical way to extract the information. There are no magic words that will fix the broken hardware.
You could try a 3rd party data recovery service, but doing so will forfeit your right to a discounted out of warranty replacement. Only you can decide it it's worth that.

  • Problem with TTS voices over 8kHz...

When I use the Neospeech voice that comes with Captivate CS6 for text to speech, which is 8kHz, it sounds fine, but when I use the premium voice for the same character from Neospeech, whih is 12kHz, I get some kind of feedback and it sounds awful. I spoke with Neospeech and they tested it ad had the same results and suggested I contact Adobe. Anyone else had this issue?

Actually, it started working fine when I told it to capture
sound at 11kHz.. I should have tried that first, before making a
fuss here, sorry. Looks like some weird glitch, a driver problem
maybe, but anyway, switching to 11kHz seems to have solved
    it.

  • Problem with Decklink card during voice over

    Hi,
i have PMG5 2.5 GHz with FCS & Blackmagic Decklink extreme card.
all these days i had a great time working on FCP . till i faced a peculiar problem
when i am capturing video from Beta or DV 50 , i am able to select video Only or Audio only , or Video & Audio .
but when iam trying to capture Audio Only option through the the Mic which is connected to the mixer, i am not able to capture audio.
even i have noticed one more strange thing, i have tried Voice Over tool in FCP 5.04 with Decklinik card and i am not able to grab any audio through the Decklink card.
but i can use built in audio for my voiceover.
has anybody come across this kind of problem,
    can somebody help me .

    Hi Rajendra,
your questions is marked as solved, but I haven't seen your question answered, so I might be wasting time. Anyway.
I bumped into the same problem not long ago. I'm using a Multibridge, but the problem and solution are the same. Here's the reply I got from Kristian Lam over at Blackmagic:
In order to get vo tool in Final Cut Pro HD to work, these are the
    steps to follow:
    1) Video Input in Blackmagic DeckLink preferences is set to match the audio input type. For example, if you're recording via the XLR connectors of your card, then then 'Inputs' under 'DeckLink Video Connections' must set to analog. It doesn't matter if it's component or composite analog video.
    2) In the View menu of Final Cut Pro HD, set External Video to “Off”. When finished with the Voice Over tool, set External Video to “All Frames” to use the broadcast monitor.
    3) You must have a stable video signal going into the card when using the vo tool or Final Cut Pro HD will not see the audio. (or use a Blackburst generator)
    4) Use the Displays menu to set the DeckLink desktop to the same format as the video source, eg. NTSC 720 x 486.
Well, then select your Decklink Card in the Voiceover Input selection. Even after I had done all that, I couldn't see any audio coming into FCP. The solution to that was to raise the Trim at the top of the mixer. I got a nice signal into the Mackie and voilà also sound into FCP.
    Hope this helps,
    Colin

  • Text with voice-over

    Hello,
Is there a function to link the text with a sound file?
For example, if you click on the paragraph, the text is read in the chosen language (French, English ...).
Every word could be highlighted and synchronized with the voice-over.
    Do you have a solution?

I agree, and I tried this already. This model will not work for a language learning textbook for example.
Just too much hazzle - and besides, you cannot shrink the media widget that much anyway... it will end up looking terrible.
I am confident that Apple will at least consider this issue and maybe come up with an elegant solution as usual.

  • Voice over equipment advice needed!

Not sure where to post this.
I’m new to voice over’s so here goes.
I’ve got a Mac book pro with final cut studio2 I’ve been asked to produce a DVD with a voice over. Usually Id use my camera and a field mixer and record the audio using a dpa tie clip mic, but now I have sound track pro I was thinking of doing something a bit more advanced!. So I’m planning on making my own sound booth
What mic is recommended for voice over’s and what equipment will I need to connect this to my Mac? I can see that Ill need an I/O device can any one recommend one?
Thanks for any help or advice

Finding the right mic is a pretty big topic which I can't answer adequately in a forum post. Choices would range from a 1950's era U47 (which goes for about $15k) to a CHinese knockoff which you can get for a couple hundred from Rode. Sennheiser, AKG, Sure, . Suffice it to say you want a mic with a low noise floor and full range. In the most general terms I'd recommend a large diaphram condensor mic.
Look for a firewire interface that has mic inputs, cause otherwise you would also need a microphone pre-amp. Most interfaces have them. M-Audio seem to have a good line at reasonable prices.

  • How do you folks handle Voice Over in Cinal Cut Pro 2

I am about to commence on documentary project that will entail extensive amounts of voice over. I do have and use Logic Studio 8, but am not anticipating having to use logic for this purpose. I would much rather do it all in FCP2. This will be at least one hour long format (not a .30 second commercial).
    Thanks in advance.

For those of us who can't afford the professional narrator et al, but still don't like the computer noise that creeps in with the voice over tool, I use a different method.
If I have someone coming in to do narration, I turn all the equipment in the room off, unplug the phones, etc. and wire them with a Samson UHF wireless lav. I hook the receiver to my old Sony TRV-900, and have them record the audio track to miniDV tape.
It's easy to import into FCP, the quality is pretty good, and nice and dry if I want to add effects later; and, I have a backup copy on tape in case of emergencies.

  • IPod Nano 7th Gen Info Voice Over Continually Runs

I bought my Ipod Nano 7th Gen last year and for several months now ive had a issue with the voice over of track information that occurs when holding down the pause/play button on the side of the ipod. The voiceover continues to run and i am unable to stop it, meaning that i have to just turn my device off and leave it. I have tried turning it on and off, the voice continues to run once turned back on, i have reset it, restored it and the voice continues to play over. I find that i have to turn it off and leave it for a while until i can use it again with out the voice over contstantly yelling track information at me. The voice over generally only does this when i am using my headphones and more commonly when i am listening to a podcast, however it still occurs when listening to music. The actually accessbilbity voice over is turned off and i have tried everything i can to stop this from driving me crazy. Is this a glitch in my ipod, should i head to a genius bar or is there some other way of fixing it that i have not come across.
    Thank You AnB

  • Voice over not in sequence?

I recorded a voice over to a sequence yesterday in Premiere Pro CC and opened it today, and the voice over was there. Now I'm trying to open the sequence with the voice overs after closing the application, and the sequence opens, but the voice over tracks are not in the timeline. Only the A1 track has audio in it, but I recorded in A2 and A3 as well.
All the audio files are saved in the project files, so I know they are on my computer. Just for some reason I can't find the sequence with the voice over tracks in it. I have over 500 voice overs, and would really really like to not have to line them up since they were already lined up. Help?

See if you can open an auto save or a (save a) copy from another location on your hard drive.

  • Interference/ Crackling sound while using voice over...

    Hi folks.
    I'm new to all this "ipod-stuff". I purchased a ipod nano 5G (16GB) lately.
I was playing around with the voice over settings today and accidently discovered the following:
I plugged the ipod to an ipod compatible receiver (Pioneer VSX-918 V) via the ipod-usb cable. The ipod was recognized without any problems and the receiver took over the ipod-controls. So far so good.
It is possible to change the settings of the receiver, that it won't take over the ipod-control, so i can operate my ipod the "normal way" via scrollwheel/ ipod-menu and so on...
While i was playing a song, i accidently pushed the center button and the ipod started to read out the current song and faded out the song itself just a little. While reading out I got a crackling interference like a bad tuned radio station, which stopped after the ipod had finished reading out the song.
I tried the whole thing again, this time I paused the song and pushed the center-button for voice over. The ipod red out the current song with any interference...
I tried again, plugged in plugged out, restart and so on...you know the deal. :/ Nothing changed...
    What's going on here?
Receiver bad? ipod bad? Voice over is kinda crappy anyway, but is here something wrong with a chip or something?
The german apple support couldn't help either and told me that this behaviour is normal, 'cause the voice over "voices" are kinda bad.
    Summary:
Connected via USB to the receiver:
Crackling while playing a song and activating voice over...
No crackling while pausing playback and activating voice over...
No crackling while playing songs without using voice over...
Connected via 3,5 mm audio jack to any device/ earphones:
    No interference at all.
    greetings

Thx for helping me on this, i really appreciate that.
The "crackling problem" is gone, but i got another one.
I got a more or less loud "popping sound" when skipping tracks forward or backward, or when i manually select a track from a list and the ipod starts playing it.
At first i didn't really realize it via the headphones from apple, since they aren't very good but it's there, too.
But playing songs via my hifi-system i became pretty aware of that "initializing" like sound.
I resetted my ipod via the method told on the apple support page (Hold on/off -->Menu/Centerbutton) and updated it in iTunes again, but it didn't go away.
    Greetings
