Stray film rolls and pics

Hi.
Was just going through my library and I have found something strange.
Sorting by rolls I have roll 92 ( May 8th 2003) next roll is 420, which also says it was imported on the same date.
Problem is there are pics in that roll from the same time but in 2005! (May 8th 2005) Also there are some Halloween pics in the same roll from October 2005. I am guessing that when I updated or installed ilife this might have happened. Any way fr me to change this?
Also when I sort by date the 2005 pics are with the 2003 pics.
(the dates on the pics are also correct...)
HELP!
Thanks

Sean:
You're probably right about the cause. You can drag a photo from one roll to another. You can also edit the date of a roll or photos by selecting it and the going to the date field in the Info window at the bottom of the Source pane. It's a bit tedious one at a time but here's no easy way. You can use the Photos->Batch Change menu option to batch change the date and time on a group of selected photos and add a user chosen time differential between each photo.

  • Film rolls and photo dates out of whack

I opened my iPhoto ver. 5.04 the other day and noticed that thousands of pictures were absent. After doing a search here I tried rebuilding the library (using the option+command buttons at startup). While the rebuild returned the photos into iPhoto, they were all lumped into a single enormous film roll and most of the dates are reporting incorrectly in the iPhoto info window. The photos are still organized in the iPhoto library folders, but the application is not organizing nor recocnizing them correctly. What can I do?

    doug:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Not a lot. Evidently the library database got damaged and the rebuild date is probably the latest modified date for many of the files. Once you get to that point there's essentially nothing one can do.
A possible tip for future use is to put our new photos to be imported into a folder on the desktop first, date and name the folder and then import that folder into iPhoto, like this. The resulting roll will have the same title as the folder and the date will help with future organization.

  • Safari 2.04 - Quicktime 7.1.3 - Films, music and pics are not beeing shown

Hy i have finally a new MacBook Pro.
But working with safari is not funny anymore:
Some Pictures, Players, and some movies are not beeing shown,
only the "Quicktime Questionmark" is there.
Does anyoneknow how to change this. Or am i possible to downgrade to an older version of quicktime or safari?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sometimes it's a flash issue triggering the ???.
Make sure the web content boxes in your Safari Preferences>Security panel are selected. Also, in System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced>mime settings>misc, make sure the boxes are unchecked.
If the above are OK, try Safari from another user account. Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.
Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.
Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If images display correctly in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.
Post back and let me know what you discover.

  • Possible to not use film rolls?

I don't have many pictures, and have about as many film rolls as pictures! I want all my iphoto library to be stored in one location (i know I can create a new film roll and place all pics there), BUT, I also want all future imported pics to simply drop into the same file. How do I accomplish this?

But when I go to upload them to say a website or dropbox, i have to go in and out of the rolls to find the pic i want
No you don't. In fact you should never enter the iPhoto Library Folder. There are no user serviceable parts there. Just use one of the many ways that iPhoto supplies to access the files. All of them are a: faster and b: safer than rooting around in the folders.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • 'Film Rolls' View loses sort order when finding photos via Keywords or text

I have my iPhoto Library sorted by Film Roll so when I select 'Library' in the source list I see my rolls listed in date order in the viewing area.
If I try and find photos using the keywords pane or the search field the rolls which match are displayed in the viewing area but the order they are listed is no longer according to their date but some (seemingly) random order.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I find that if I have my rolls sorted by Film roll and Ascending (by roll date) the keyword search results will have the rolls in the correct chronological order.
However if I change the sort order to Descending , the search order remains as Ascending by roll date.
If you create a Smart album for a keyword search then you can sort the photos by any criteria you'd like: Date, Keyword (redundant), Rating or Title and Ascending or Descending.

  • Lost rolls and contents thumbnails in albums

some how i have lost two years of rolls from the library. the thumbnails in the albums are also missing. I photo is capable of importing, as i have just recently added some rolls. The jpg's are in the i photo library in the modified and original folders. This is an older imac 800/g4 with 512 ram. this corruption could have come when upgrading to iphoto 6. i am using os10.4.8. any suggestions on a rebuild. I tried the thumbnail rebuild- negative results. I don't want to import again if i don't have to. the albums took a lot of time to edit and don't want to have duplicate photos in the library. Has any one seen this before?
    thanks darrell

    Darrell
You could try rebuilding using iPhoto Library Manager and see if that helps, but it does sound like a couurpted library file. This could be caused by a crash or power loss while iPhoto is writing to the file.
IF rebuilding doesn't work, then I'm afraid creating and populating a new library may be your only option. To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Problem sorting by rolls and

In IPHOTO5 ..It look that i can not sort my photo by films roll and in the same time have my pictures in these films roll sort by following growing numbers (keywords)
I do not know why but if i choose to to sort my photo by growing numbers (ex: 1234- 1235-1236-1237 ect...) (keywords) I can not have the also the films rool organisation to happen in the same time

    Hi Guy,
You are right. when you go to View/sort by....you can only sort by one of those conditions. Your best bet would be to make smart albums with the keyword as the condition:
    File/new smart album
"keyword" "is" "choose keyword from drop down menu"
If you want to add more keywords or conditions to the smart album, hit the plus sign.

  • Film ROLLS have vanished

I am using iphoto 6. Normally each set of new of pix I upload would sit in its own roll but a few days ago all the rolls spontaneously vanished except for one (roll 60) I don't think I have lost any photos (over 1000 of them) but they are all now sitting in "roll 60" in a complete jumble. I have of course tried going to: view> film rolls and also view>sort photos> by film rolls. but with no success ...Any ideas anyone??
    Thanks in advance, Mark

  • How to re-number Film Rolls

I understand how to change the title and date of a Film Roll, but I would like to re-number the Film Rolls in my library to have them in the same order as their dates. Does anyone know how to do that?
(Reason for me to change the Film Roll numbers: In smart albums, if "View>Film Rolls" is clicked on, the Film Rolls are sorted by roll number, not by the date assigned to the roll. I know that I could sort photos by dates, but then the Film Rolls are not displayed).
    Thanks!

Yes, that's what I did and it did not solve the problem. It seems to be a bug.
Again, here is what I did, step-by-step:
    1. Added 1 picture, created 1 Roll "Roll 1"
    2. Added another picture, created a second roll "Roll 2"
    3. Addes a third picture, created a third roll "Roll 3"
    4. Called Roll 1 "1980", Roll 2 "1982" and Roll 3 "1981" (Order is now: 1980, 1982, 1981).
    5. Changed date of "1980" to 1/1/1980, of "1982" to 1/1/1982 and "1981" to 1/1/1981 (Order is now: 1980, 1981, 1982 in LIBRARY).
    6. When I create a smart album, the order is 1980, 1982, 1981.
So while everything is fine in the library, smart albums don't show the rolls in proper order. They seem to ignor the date assigned to the film roll and keep sorting by the initial order of the film roll as they were created.

  • Add photo to existing film roll

    Hi all,
My question relates to adding photos into an existing film roll. I have some motion jpeg movies taken with my still camera that were not imported to iPhoto when the original folder was imported. Don't remember why unless older versions of iphoto did not import .mov files. Anyhow since these movies relate to the other stills in the roll I would like to add them to the existing roll. Forum search and iphoto help didn't turn up any answer. I suppose I could delete the roll and reimport the entire folder, but was hoping for a simpler solution. Thanks for any help.

    Hi Jim,
    After the movies are imported:
Command click on each movie and roll you want combined to one roll
    Go to File>create film roll
    From the iPhoto Help menu:
    Creating a customized film roll
    To create a film roll:
Click Library in the Source list.
Select the photos you want in your new film roll. Command-click to select non-adjacent photos.
Choose File > Create Film Roll.
Your selected photos will be removed from their current film rolls and moved to the new film roll you create.
After you've created a new film roll, you can name it and change its date. Customizing film rolls is one way to better organize your photo library.

  • Creating film rolls does not seem possible?!?

I am trying to organise my iPhoto library by creating new film rolls but it appears that it will not let me do it. I select the photos that I want in the new film roll and then click <file> but "create new film roll" is still light grey and therefore not a selectable option. Anyone any clue what I am doing wrong?
    Cheers,
    Ben

Additionally make sure you are in the main Library and not an album. You can't create new rolls from within albums.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Film rolls' names??

hi, could someone please tell me how to change the name of a film roll, and how to create or modify one????
    thanks
    alessandra

    alessandra,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
First you must view your library in Film Roll view. The entire library must be active, without any filter in place. View > Film Rolls. Then click the little i icon in the lower left corner to open the Info Pane. Select an entire roll by clicking its header. With the roll selected, you can edit its info by typing directly in the Info Pane (not the roll header). You can edit the roll's title, date, and comments.
To create a new roll select at least one photo and do File > Create Film Roll.
Photos can be moved from one roll to another. Select the thumbnails you want to move and drag them to the roll you want them in - don't release until the roll header is highlighted.
To combine rolls, drag one roll's header into another.
If I missed something or you'd like further clarification please come on back.
    Regards.

  • Film Roll?

Our daughters teacher gave us a DVD with 2900 pictures the kids had taken over the course of the school year. I imported them into iPhoto and then imported some other pictures after. Now I realize that most of these photos are pictures of carpet, the ceiling, etc that the kids just snapped. In iPhoto 6 I could have gone to View Film Rolls and found that roll and deleted all of the pix in one fell swoop. Now in iPhoto 08 there doesn't appear any way to easily deleted these pix since they are split into a myriad of events over the span of an entire school year. And since some were taken at a time I took pix with my own camera I suspect that some of my pix are in those events so I can't just go through and delete events. Any helpful ideas?

Thanks. Good to know. Still no easy way to find just those pictures because they are spread over many days, an entire school year in fact. I can't find them in one event. And since I've imported more recent pictures the "Last Import" view doesn't do me any good. In iPhoto 06 could just look for the film roll and see all of them and easily delete the bad photos. Same thing when downloading pix from a friend who may have taken some good pix at an event and you find the time or date is off. If you were in iPhoto 6 just look for the film roll and correct them. In iPhoto 08 no easy way to find only those photos imported from that camera.
APPLE, PLEASE BRING BACK FILM ROLLS! They are different AND more useful than events. At least to this user.
