Stream AVIs to appleTV?

Here's my current setup:
I download movies from Vuze, usually in AVI format. I use DivX Converter, which runs automatically. I believe it's a plug-in for quicktime...? Anyway, I want to be able to stream these AVI movies on AppleTV, keeping me from having to go to it with an HDMI/Audio cable that'll just simply be annoying. From what I can tell, AppleTV will only let you view files that are in the "Movies" section of iTunes -- is this true?
More than anything else...
Is there any way I can view torrent-download AVI movies, streaming, on AppleTV? If yes, how so?

Save them using Quicktime to .MOV. Then copy the .MOV file into iTunes. Once there, highlight the .MOV file you just imported and select Advanced > Create iPad or Apple TV version (or something to that effect). Works like a champ.
If you don't need to batch multiple files, you can also use Handbrake, but in that case, you can only do one video file at a time.

AVI films aren't directly supported. If you don't have a machine fast enough for AirPlay, there are these alternatives.
AVI films you create yourself can be converted to MPEG4 with various tools on the web. Those would make those videos more compatible with the AppleTV.

ITunes will not stream audio to AppleTv.

Since I upgraded to Yosemite iTunes will not stream audio to AppleTv. IPhone and iPad running iOS8 works fine.

It sounds like AirPlay is not functioning correctly between iTunes on your computer, to your AppleTV but iOS devices work without issue. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article, named:

I am now having the same problem - I cannot find the SAG/AFTRA screener that I just redeemed - however, it is showing up as a rental on my itunes (on my PC). But it is not showing up yet on my Apple TV. It also has NOT yet finished downloading - so does that mean once the screener is done downloading entirely, then it will appear on my Apple TV?

Homeshare won't stream podcasts to AppleTV

I just updated AppleTV to 4.4.2(3160) and now none of my podcasts from my office computer's "library" will stream to the AppleTV. Instead all I get is the spinning timer ball. Netflix, Photostream and music all work fine. I CAN go to the podcast section under "Internet" but it will not homeshare podcasts from the library. Infact I can actually see all the items in the "library" but when you try and play them it will just show the spinning timer ball for hrs.

There is an issue with Webroot's InternetSecurity Essentials!! The DEFAULT settings in the firewall prevent the streaming of podcasts from iTunes to AppleTV via Home Share.
Immediately after selecting "Allow All Traffic" under Webroot Security Essential's Firewall, podcasts began to stream.
After requesting help from Webroot they suggested (via form letter email) to re-install the software. They seem to not be able to understand what default means. Re-installing just puts the default settings right back on the system. Their support is awful.
I still have no solution for the correct or allowable settings for the firewall.
Firewall currently shows the following allowed communication in reference to Apple...
iCloud
iTunes
Bonjour
AppleMobile helper
AppleUpdate

Settings that may be preventing iTunes from streaming to my AppleTV?

I'm trying to stream content from my Mac through iTunes to my AppleTV, however, it will not do it through Home at all. I turned off my Firewall, are there any other security or network settings that may be getting in the way of it working?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

Whenever i watch streamed .avi movies through DivX firefox crashes, why?

whenever i try to watch DivX movies through a streaming website, the extension to the movies are .avi files, only these streams cause my firefox to crash. if i would just let the firefox load itself out of the problem, which i have, it never does until i CTRL ALT DELETE it in the end task manager.
streaming worked fine for .avi files before the new firefox update, so will this error be fixed, or is it something else? and if so how do i fix the problem so i can continue to view these movies online?

Was having the same problem. Uninstalled the latest which is 8.1+, decided to go with an older version 8.o (released 9 months ago). Only installed the web player, works great after downgrade. Although wiki states 8.0.1 is stable and working.

Your post requires more infromation - 'streamed video' from where?
Seleced and played from one of the options on AppleTV itself?
Using 'Airplay' from an iPhone/iPad or similar and which app? If this is the issue, then check reviews on the app in iTunes Store and check the developer's site - many companies prevent video from being Airplayed for mysterious, possibly licensing related, reasons.

Is there a way to play DVD on iMac or MacBookPro and stream it to AppleTV

Apple makes it easy to download their movies and airplay out to AppleTV...what about a DVD rental that I am playing on either computer device and then streaming it out to AppleTV...can't seem to do that one without make a hard wire connection from computer to TV directly.
Has anyone figured this one out or is Apple working on it...seems like a no brainer to me???

well for starters DVD is a dying format, so why bother supporting it.
can you name any other similar device to the appletv that supports DVD streaming?

Hello- new here. I just set up my new airplay speaker. I currently have appletv connected to my stereo receiver. How do I stream music to both appletv and the airplay speaker? I seem to only get the option to choose one or the other?

That's normal - remember it's a limited portable device.
You could Airplay from iTunes to both using multiple speaker mode (or download Remote app and control itunes and multiple speakers using that in teh palm of your hand).

16:9 XViD AVI into AppleTV Campatible on WinXP?

I have an old version of ffmpeg.exe associated with 3GP Converter. I downloaded the latest version of ffmpeg.exe WinXP binary but can't seem to get the latest binary working right, but the settings for 3GP always compress my video to 4x3 so that everything looks too tall and thin. What is the best way to convert XViD content in letterbox format to a High-Quality format supported by iTunes and the AppleTV? Thanks.
My Powerbook is far too slow to do any conversion.

The message is An abnormal condition has occurred and Encore needs to shut down, you have once chance to save your project.
If I import the 4:3 time line no problem until I try to bring in the 16:9 timeline, and vise versa. And I just realized I am using an older version of encore on the PC. The MAC has CS3. The version is two prior. Hummm wonder if that was the issue.

Alternative streaming source for AppleTV?

I just bought the new Time Capsule to make room for more movies to be played on my AppleTV, but then it seems I still need my mac running to manage it all thru iTunes!!!
This is so not ok! I don't want to keep my Mac running at all times just to connect AppleTV to iTunes when I don't have any other need for it. All my daily tasks are normally well covered by my iPads and phones. There must be another possible way for AppleTV to access my media externally? Or is it time to look for totally other solutions?
Now, back to the store to return my Time Capsule - sadly it was a waste of money!

Another Problem wit AirTunes.
Set-up:
PC, Windows 7, Itunes -> LAN -> Air port AE -> Apple TV (Wlan Connected)
When i want to play Music on Itunes, i want change the speakers, it takes about 1 minute and then it display a error, connection error. When i try it a few times or reboot the apple tv, it works.
Or when i do it with "Remote" on my Iphone, i can change the speakers, i go to the song, and i cannot start to play the song. The Buttons are deactivated...
The other way, select songs on the AppleTV (over the private sharing) then it works.
