Stream DVD content to Apple TV

Hi everybody,
I wonder if I can stream a movie from DVD player (in a PC with iTunes) to an Apple TV device.
I am considering getting one, but only if I can see my DVDs somehow.
Otherwise please I'd appreciate if another solution is supplied.
Our needs are basically YouTube and DVD series.
Many thanks in advance.

  • Streaming HD content to apple tv really slow, why?

Does anyone know why when I have fibre optic broadband, 100Mbps download speed that when I try and stream a HD tv show or film to my Apple tv (2) from either my mac or ipad it buffers and buffers, plays, then stops halfway through, buffers again for, well I have no idea because I always give up AND WATCH IT ON THE IPAD IN FRONT OF MY HUGE TV WHICH IS LUDICROUS!. I thought the apple tv started to play after it had calculated how much time it needed to upoad the rest of the film/tv show. On forums it's seems that it's ALWAYS the network that gets the blame, but mine is the best you can get and it still doesn't work. It can't be the network, I know using wireless is slower but at 50Mbps or 25Mbps it should still be fast enough, it can only be the Apple TV! I think it's the upgrades that seem to have made it worse and worse everytime there's a new one. Would it be worth resetting back to factory settings? or is there an obvious setting I need to look for?
    HELP IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!

    Hi,
I haven't because the BT hub is upstairs and the apple tv downstairs so it would be a long cable and not practical and the infinity ethernet port is being used for my mac. The thing is, it's sold as a wireless system and all you need is a good internet connection, apparently, cabling everything up is such a retrograde step. It all used to work perfectly, the only thing I can put it down to is the last appletv upgrade, that was when it seemed to stop working properly.

  • How to get your own content on Apple TV

I'm considering buying an Apple TV to replace my Mac Mini (as I don't really use much other than Front Row anyway, so a couple of questions:
    1. Is the only way to get my own content on the Apple TV to sync it with iTunes running on another computer? I have an iPod Touch, and I don't really want to have to store two versions of every movie in iTunes on my iMac; an ATV version (better quality) and an iPod Touch version (takes up less room).
    2. Is there a way to play DVDs on the Apple TV (besides ripping them)? For example, is it possible to stream DVD content from another Apple Mac on the same network? Or perhaps plug a DVD drive into the USB port?

I also have an aTV and iPod Touch. I store everything formatted for the Touch. Personally, the difference in quality is negligible for me.
Then there must be something wrong with setup, because I have encoded videos (using Handbrake) for both Apple TV and iPod Touch, and when I play them on my Mac Mini (which is connected to an HD Plasma screen) the difference in quality is massive (i.e. the iPod Touch videos are rougher than a badger's arse). Maybe you're not connected to an HD set with an HDMI cable?
Connected to a 720p HD set through HDMI. It might just be a preferences issue. I don't mind a little pixelation in broad colour gradients ... Handbrake's Touch setting does an excellent job on higher detailed objects like people.
In short, I prefer to only have one copy of a video over having a 420p rip of a DVD.

  • How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that it can be played and streamed from my Mac?

How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that I can play the content on my Mac and also stream it to my Apple TV? A few years ago, I transferred all of my home videos onto DVD but now would really like to put these onto my Mac and stream them through Apple TV to watch on the "big screen". Any advice would be most welcome!! Thanks

    MPEG Streamclip.
Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

  • Revised: can I stream internet content from a cell phone network to the apple tv?

So I am trying to stream internet content from my iphone (phone network) to the Apple TV. I currently do not have internet at my house. What I do have is a macbook pro, airport express, ipad (wifi only), and of course iphone and apple tv. So is there a way to configure these devices to somehow stream my phone content to my apple tv. As of now the only way to connect the iphone to the apple tv is through wifi; the bluetooth that apple tv supports is elementary and will not support this connection. When the iphone is on a wifi network it automatically tries to use it for internet content. So 1 option would have to be a work around for making the iphone use the cell phone network for pulling internet content and using the wifi to broadcast this content to the apple tv. Another option would be to connect the iphone with the macbook pro via bluetooth (somehow) and then mirror the macbook pro to the apple tv via the wifi network setup with the airport express. ANY IDEAS?

You wouldnt be able to to use both networks at the same time. Either need to connect the Apple TV to the cell network (which will require a lot of data and impact battery life) or get a home plan and broadcast over the local network (wifi)

  • Can I stream a dvd to my apple tv with mountain lion?

I have a 2009 MBP 13 and want to send a dvd to my apple tv. wlll this work with Mountain Lion, or Snow Leopard?

Sorry, but there is no way to stream a physical DVD from any Mac, regardless of the OS it's running. If this DVD is not copy-protected (most commercial DVDs are), you can convert it and import it into iTunes and then stream it from your Mac.
    Regards.

  • If I connect my Time Machine up to my wifi can I stream it's iTunes content to apple tv

I'm getting a Time Machine and I was wondering if I can stream my backed up iTunes music, Tv Shows, Films etc to my apple tv directly from it. Thanks

I'm getting a Time Machine and I was wondering if I can stream my backed up iTunes music, Tv Shows, Films etc to my apple tv directly from it.
No, you will not be able to stream the Time Machine backup copy of your iTunes media files directly from the Time Capsule to an Apple TV or AirPort Express Base Station.
You could however, decide to store your iTunes Media Folder on the Time Capsule, and then, use iTunes from any host computer to stream it to the Apple TV. Better still use the iTunes Music Match feature and you can stream your entire iTunes Library to the Apple TV directly from the iCloud.

  • 2 apple TV's, stream different content

I want to stream pandora to one Apple TV, and Netflix to the other one.  I would like to use Remote to do this.  any ideas?

1 device can only play 1 media item to devices using airplay
several devices can play different media items to severeal devices using airplay
several devices can access the shared itunes lib at once
but if you are trying to steam pandora to 1 appletv with an ios device and netflix to another then nop no deal

  • DVD's on Apple TV

Is it possible to play DVD's on an I Mac and to stream the content to an Apple TV? This would get rid of a DVD player, and allow digital archiving of my DVD collection.

An Apple TV can only play content that can be imported to and played within iTunes. DVDs that are not copy protected can be converted to a format that iTunes and the Apple TV can play, but commercial DVDs, being copy-protected, cannot in the US be legally converted.

  • Streaming from Mac to Apple TV outside of iTunes

Has anyone tried to stream DVDs playing on their MAC to Apple TV? Or safari content? or anything else? Is Airplay locked into the iTunes infrastructure, i.e. not in iTunes then not allowed to stream?

I've been having many problems with Home Sharing on my ATV3 for the past few months, ever since the Yosemite Beta up 'til now, but today is the first time I'm having this same issue - where I only get a "Could not connect to [My] Library" message.  I've turned Home Sharing off and on several times, reset routers (ATC and AE), restarted iTunes, reset my ATV... pretty much every web remedy out there.  It was working decently just yesterday, and now I can't stream anything via Home Sharing.  Airplay mirroring works, but I don't want to do that. I shouldn't have to.
