Stream from my iMac via airport express to my Harmann Kardon AVR360

I want to stream music from my iMac via airport express to my Harmann Kardon AVR360, but without success. I'm using a mini jack -> optical adapter. Any recommendations on how to make this work?

The issue may be the adapter or cable that you are using. Since both your AirPort Express and Harman Kardon support digital audio optical connections, the simplest connection between them would be to use a cable with a 3.5 mm minijack to TOSlink optical connector on one side and a TOSlink optical connector on the other side.
I also have had scenarios where I had the right cable/connector but either the cable or connector was faulty.

  • Can I play tracks from my iPod via Airport Express on only from my laptop?

I can play tracks from my laptop thorugh my Bose Lifestyle  Airport Express.  Is there a way to play tracks from my iPod Touch through my Bose system via Airport Express?   My Airport Express is set up as a client to my Sky Broadband wireless router.

I set up my laptop to my Bose Lifestyle System via Airport Express. It may be different for MAC but I just downloaded the Airport Express software and followed the on-screen set-up procedure, which includes entering your WI-FI key.  I do not have an iPad.  You need to select Airport Express in iTunes as your sound media. This is easily switched by an icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.  You will need to switch this back if you want to revert to using the laptop speakers.

  • When playing iTunes from 2006 MacBook via Airport Express remote stereo speakers, the music keeps dropping in and out

I've tried hours and a trip to the Apple Store to resolve this problem, and no luck so far.
We have two Airport Expresses -- one is an older "g" version (from 2006), one is a newer "n" version (a couple of years old).
We have one older MacBook (from June 2006) (so it can only use "g" wireless and also cannot be upgraded to OS X 10.7 "Lion").
We have one MacBook Air and an iMac (both less than a year old), an iPad (about 2 months old), and a recently acquired AppleTV (in the past few weeks).
We also have two iPhones that do use our local wireless network on occassion.
We have stereo speakers that are currently connected into one of the Airport Expresses.
For years (until the past few weeks) I played music from iTunes on my first generation MacBook to the speakers with no problems (using the older "g" Airport Express).  Recently, however, when playing music remotely over the speakers we have gotten fairly regular (though at random intervals) drops of the music in and out (drops are for a second or two each).  So far, here's what we've tried to do:
    (1)     Went to the Apple Store, where they thought the problem might be compatability between the g and n equipment in our house.  They suggested that we get an Airport Extreme and use that as the base so that 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz networks could each be set up, allowing the two systems to play nicely.  Spent a couple of hours setting everything up.  No dice.
    (2)     The skipping happens even when (a) I turn off the Apple TV; and/or (b) turn off the older Airport Express and just use the Extreme and the "n" Express (with the "n" Express as the connection to the stereo).
    (3)      When I have the wireless network drop-down menu selected on my MacBook, the skipping occurs immediately after the computer is "looking for networks" (as shown at the top of the menu).  The computer does this at random intervals on a regular basis.  The skipping, however, will occur even if the menu is not selected.
    (4)     Here's the weirdest part.  The skipping has even occured when playing iTunes from our newish iMac, with the older MacBook shut down, with the older Airport Express shut down.  In this case, the skipping only appears to occur when we have the wireless network drop-down menu selected and again, it occurs when the computer is "looking for networks" which occurs at random intervals.  In this situation, the skipping only seems to occur when the menu is selected.
At this point, if I can't find another solution, I'm going to return the Airport Extreme, and just give up playing music over our stereo speakers from the MacBook (and instead transfer music to the iMac and play from it).  But I thought I'd try a last-ditch effort to ask for help to see if anyone could figure out what might be causing the problem.  I would chalk it up to the problems of using my old "g" network MacBook on a newer "n" system (though I'm not about to spend $1K+ to upgrade my laptop just for this), but for (4) above, which seems to indicate something else is going on.
Any help would be most appreciated!

Unfortunately, your description of the problem and the placement of both your main and AirPort Express routers does lend itself to believe the problem is most likely Wi-Fi interference. If it isn't the microwave or portable phones, it could be obstacles like walls between the routers that may be preventing the stream from consistently reaching the Express.
In your configuration, the stream will first travel to the main router, and then, from the main router to the AirPort Express. If, for example, you started the stream in the same room as the Express, that stream would have to travel across several rooms at least twice.

  • Streaming from Denon receiver to Airport Express Base Station?

    Hello,
i know it's possible to strem music, video, etc. from your apple device to a Denon receiver with airplay, but is it also possible, to stream sound from the Denon receiver to an Airport Express Base Station? I'm about to purchase such a Denon receiver and 2 Airport Express Base Station. To the Airport Express Base Station's i want to connect speakers, the Denon receiver will be connected to the TV and Bluray. So i was wondering, if i could stream the sound from the TV / Bluray, via the Denon receiver to the Airport Express Base Stations. Or is the airplay function of the Denon a one-way road?
    Thanks for feedback!

  • Connect to Win (wired) network from MacBook connecting via AirPort Express

    Hi,
I have a MacBook (OS 10.4.10) that I was connecting to my Windows network via a Linksys WRK54G Wireless router (configured as a WAP), which in turn was connected to a Netgear FVS318 VPN Firewall Router. The FVS318 connects to my cable modem and 2 Windows XP Pro PCs. The Linksys WRK54G has been flaking out, so I replaced it with an Airport Express. My MacBook and a Windows XP Pro laptop are both able to connect to the internet via the airport express, and they are both able to ping the IP addresses of my (wired network connected) Win XP Pro PCs. However, the PCs no longer show up under "Network" on the MacBook, nor can I connect to the shared directories on the (wired) Windows PCs from the Win XP Pro laptop (via Start Menu => Run => enter IP address). I have not found any answers so far either using Google or Apple Support website. Surely this is possible -- what am I missing? Thanks.

Hello sborisch. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If I understand your network configuration, you just need to configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge...
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (located in the \Applications\Utilities folder), make these settings:
    Network tab
    o Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    o Apply the new setting.

  • Want stream Netflix to blueray via Airport Express wifi. The blueray finds my wifi but the wireless connection failed - said, Ensure DHCP server is enabled on router and restart router. Don't think I have DHCP server. Suggestions anyone?

Want to stream Netflix to blueray player via my existing Airport Express wifi. The player finds my wifi but the wireless connection fails - says, " Ensure DHCP server is enabled on router and restart router." I don't think I have a DHCP server. Suggestions anyone?

I can't speak specifically regarding LG, but the Whole Home feature on Direct TV (record a movie on one DVR and watch it on another TV in another location) just won't work with wireless, and I have a strong fast connection at 300 Mbps. Ethernet works perfectly.
Few audio/video products will accept "n" wireless at 5 GHz. I suspect that your LG accepts a 2.4 GHz signal, which would top out at 130 Mpbs.
If you are trying to stream High Definition video, especially at 1080P, my opinion would be that it is unlikely that you will be able to do so reliably using wireless.
Perhaps another user who has figured out how to do this will post with some input.

  • Sharing a 3G usb modem on the iMac via Airport Express

    Hi,
I would like to be able to share my 3G/HSDPA USB Modem that is currently connected to my iMac over the Airport Express wireless network at home. The objective is to let every computer (PC and Mac) connected to the wireless network (Airport Express) to be able to access the internet via the iMac 3G/HSDPA connection.
I could have shared the 3G connection directly via the Internet Sharing, but this would require the computers to switch wireless network.
Can anybody describe on how to achieve this?
    Regards,
    Hindra

Finally, after several tries with the guidance of Duane's posts on how to set it up, I got this to work.
Objective: To be able to share a 3G wireless connection connected to an iMac using 3G USB Modem with the rest of the network connected via wireless Airport Express.
{Internet} <---> 3G USB Modem <---> iMac <---> Airport Express <---> Other computers (PC and Mac)
    1. Set the Airport Express to Join a Wirelss Network, and name the network to be the same name as the name of the network set in the Internet Sharing (on the iMac)
    2. Set the Internet Sharing on the iMac, and share the 3G USB Modem network name to the Airport network and name the Airport network to be the same as No. 1
    3. That's it....
Big Thanks to Duane for your help.

  • Music streaming from Mac (iTunes) to Airport Express isn't steady

Hi, I use Airport Express to stream my music from iTunes wireless to my active-speakers, which are conected to Airport Express. • Very slow printing from Konica connected via Airport Express

    Hello folks,
I have a very strange problem with erratic printing to a network printer, connected to an Airport Express via ethernet.
    The Network:
    - Draytek modem/router hosting DHCP
    - Time Capsule connected to Draytek. It's in bridge mode, and runs the WiFi network
    - Airport Express 1 in "Join a Network" mode, ethernet clients allowed
    - Konica Minolta Magicolor laserjet printer connected via ethernet to AX1
    - Airport Express 2 in "Extend a Network" mode elsewhere in the office
All client devices on the network are getting IP addresses in the correct range etc. I have fixed the IP of most devices at the router level, so they don't change.
Client Macs print directly to the printer using IPP (or might be LPD, I can check if relevant) using apparently a correct driver and IP address.
WiFi network is very strong throughout, and the distance between Time Capsule and AX1 is just a few feet.
    Here's the problem:
At the start of the day, the printer works just fine. Fast.
Then, inexplicably, you send a document to it and the print queue reports "Spooling....xx%" which increases painfully slowly compared to when it's working normally.
This happens randomly with both small and large files. A modest photo can take over an hour to fully spool and print when it's doing this.
Turning the printer off and on again tends to make it work properly, until the above happens again.
This is driving me mad. Is there a problem with:
    (a) The WiFi network or airport hardware
    (b) The printer
    (c) The drivers
    (d) The printing protocol
    (e) Me
    (f) All of the above
Any insight would be most welcome. The Konica tech reckons it's working, but I think he didn't spend long enough sending print jobs to it for the problem to manifest.
    P.S.
One of my main questions is, when the print queue says "spooling", is this the process of progressively sending the file over the network? Or does spooling occur when the data is either already fully arrived at the printer, or hasn't left the Mac yet?
Could the printer's unwillingness to accept data cause the slow spooling? Why might this happen?

It should work. Enable Printer Sharing via System Preferences -> Sharing. The Mac does need to be turned on.
P.S. Try to just post one thread on your question instead of crossposting over several forums.

  • ITunes 10.5 AirPlay does not stream from my pc to airport express or apple tv

Windows 7/32 bit, Time Capsule router (one WiFi system in home), Airport Express for music and all listed in Router DHCP assignments. All with the latest software. Before iTunes and iOS5 upgrade worked OK. Now no PC iTunes Airplay icon even though there is one on iPhone & iPAd 2 that shows AP Express and Apple TV choices. An older XP laptop with iTunes 10.2 also works OK. Uninstalled and reinstalled Airport Utility & Bonjour, Firewall includes iTunes and Bonjour allow entries. Now what?

    Hi!
I have the same Problem (without Airport Express anyway), propably the problem is with 32-bit Windows 7. Similar problem that is with seting up Time Capsule with 32-bit Windows 7, you can find and use it but you can't change setings. I would love blame Windows but as Apple tries to make iTunes work with Windows it's hard to say who's fault it really is. They just don't like eachother...
Buy a Mac, (at least that's my solution)

  • Connecting to a pc from my mac via airport express wireless network

I have successfully been able to access my mac from my Windows XP machine via my AE wireless network that I set up with my Mac. However, I am unable to do the reverse. I.e. connect to my PC from my Mac.
There seem to be two issues I need to figure out to make this work:
    1. Firstly, the option to allow sharing for any of my Windows folders has been restricted because apparently I need to create a network first but I have a network and both the PC and Mac can access the internet, share a printer and see each other via this network so I don't understand what's wrong. Do I have to create a network from the pc side of things as well in order for this to work?
    2. When I attempt to connect to the pc from my mac I do the following from Finder: GO >> "Connect to Server" then I type in smb://<ip address of the pc>. When the dialogue comes up asking for "Workgroup/Domain", "Name" and "Password" comes up I know I have the correct workgroup and I know the pc is there because it's full name is displayed but I'm not sure what to enter as "Name" and "Password". I assumed it was the username and password for the windows user on the pc whose files/folders I want to access but then I'm told the connection can't be made because the name or password isn't correct. I tried every user name and password I could think of in these fields--even the accounts for my mac--but they all give me the same response.
I'd appreciate it if someone could someone lend a hand.
    Joey

Sorry, I don't know which articles you have already reviewed.
Sharing folders on the PC should be nothing more than enabling "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" option under Network options & then identifying which folders you want to share.

  • Connecting Itunes to reciever via Airport Express LAN

    Ok,
First off I've read so many articles on connecting that my head is spinning.  I've got an older 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Imac.  I've got two airport expresses, one brand new, the other a second gen I think, but let's forget about that.  It's connected to a pair of powered speakers at the other end of our loft, but drops out constantly regardless of channels picked.  Eventually I'll get an airport extreme, which is what I should have done in the first place.  My Imac is close enough to my receiver (vintage B&O 5000).  Can I just run a LAN cable from the Imac to airport express?  Obviously I need the mic/optical jack for connecting the receiver via RCA.  The second part of my question is will the airport express still work as a DAC connected this way?  I just want to have my music connected to one real pair of speakers for now, and will start from scratch building a wireless network for the powered speakers once I get an airport extreme.  Just...can't... stand... dropouts anymore!

Airtunes actually only support MP3/AAC audio streaming from iTunes. That's too bad for video.
The things is, even with other Airtunes streaming software, the streaming delay is such that the song will be off by a few second from the video. I guess Apple have choose to do not stream video sound until this may be resolve.
Therefore, I'm not aware of any solution to this issue.

  • Is music streamed from an iMac to an Airport Express digital?

My Airport is connected to my stereo with the optical/digital connector, but is the music that is being streamed to the Express itself digital before it is streamed to the stereo via the Express?

Because you can stream music from the Express to the stereo digitally or analog dependent on which connectors you use. Since the music has to travel to the Express and then to the stereo, I just wondered if the stream from the computer was digital.

  • Connect Imac to Stereo via Headphone Jack & 2nd Stereo via Airport Express

I have two whole-house stereo systems; one serving the lower level (basement) of my house and another serving the first and second floors. My iMac is on the lower level. The house was prewired with two coax cables (standard cable TV-type cables) from the area behind my stereo on the lower level to the room where my iMac is located. Using adapters from Radio Shack, I was able to directly connect my iMac to my home stereo on the lower level. I can currently play my iTunes on my lower level stereo by plugging the cable into the headphone jack on my iMac.
I am set up with a wireless network using a Linksys WRT54G. I would like to be able to also stream music from iTunes on my iMac to my home stereo on the first floor. I realize I can do this with the use of Airport Express.
My goal is to be able to play the same music from iTunes on my iMac on both stereos simultaneously. My question is; if I have my lower level stereo connected to my iMac via the headphone jack, will I still be able to stream the same music from iTunes to my upper level stereo via Airport Express? I'm concerned that by connecting the lower level stereo to the headphone jack, the music will not be able to be streamed wirelessly to the upper level stereo.
Thank you in advance for your time.
iMac 24 in.   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Wireless keyboard & mouse, Linksys WRT-54G connected wirelessly

    Hi.
Assuming your iMac is no more than 50 feet from where you intend to locate the express then:
You will need to configure your airport express to join your current wireless network in client mode (otherwise you won't be able to use the internet and the express at the same time).
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153
In iTunes there is an option to select multiple speakers. Thus you select this and then check the desired options. Hence you can have music coming out of the speakers/hadphone jack on your iMac AND out of the speakers connected to the airport express.
