Stream from PBS buffers and stops streaming

For the past two nights I have been trying to stream the PBS show “The Roosevelt’s and each night the stream buffers and then kicks me out to the menu; the first night the stream stopped at approximately the 15 minute mark and tonight the stream buffered and stopped at the 35 minute mark. Has anyone else suffered the same or a similar problem?

Received word back from PBS; their latest player is not supported in Safari 5. So a Chrome or Firefox install is the best solution.
Chrome has worked for me.

  • CRIO disconnects from Ethernet network and stops responding to pings

    We are running a cRIO application that periodically disconnects from the Ethernet network even though the VI continues to run on the cRIO.
    The application has two parallel loops.  One loop reads data from the FPGA and writes it to a RT FIFO.  The second loop opens a TCP connection to a remote host, reads data from the RT FIFO, and transmits the data to the remote host.  We have instrumented each loop to send messages to the serial port that indicate their status.  When the cRIO disconnects, both loops continue to send their status messages to the serial port. The first loop happily continues reading data from the FPGA and writing it into the RT FIFO.  The RT FIFO overwrites the oldest data when it fills up to keep it from overflowing.  The second loop reports a TCP write timeout (tcp write error 56) around the time that the cRIO disconnects, after which it closes the existing TCP connection and then repeatedly tries to open a new TCP connection (each attempt times out after a 5 second delay).
    All that appears normal and usually the connection is automatically restored.  Occasionally, however, the cRIO is not able to re-open the TCP connection.  Furthermore, the cRIO stops responding to pings from the remote host.  On two occasions, the cRIO was finally able to open a new connection after 30-40 minutes.  Other than that, the only way we've found out of this dilemma is to reboot the cRIO.
    The frequency of the disconnects and the time before they occur doesn't seem connected to whether or not the cRIO is set to run the application at startup or if the application is run via an interactive VI window on the remote computer.
    It is possible that the disconnects have something to do with which computer the cRIO is connected to, as the problems seem to happen much more frequently (often within minutes) when the cRIO is sending data to a laptop running Windows XP, but it can run for hours when sending data to a rackmount server running Windows Server 2003.  Everything else (the speed and size of data being sent, the ethernet hub and cables, the VI running on the remote computer) is the same.

    We're done most of the testing with a 9014 real time controller and a 9104 chassis.  However, we've also seen similar behavior with 9014/9103 and 9102/9101 combinations.
    The 9014 cRIO normally runs at around 50% CPU usage and less than 40% memory usage when the data is flowing steadily.  The RT System Monitor did not indicate a spike in either before the cRIO disconnected.
    Measurement and Automation Explorer is not able to connect to the cRIO after it disconnects.  We tried pinging the cRIO from a different computer, but that also failed.
    After disconnecting, the cRIO sends error messages to the serial port while trying to open a new TCP connection. It reports an error 56 (time-out error) 3 or 4 times (for a total duration of 15 or 20 seconds) and then reports an error 42 (generic error) at least 10 times per second for 18 seconds, and then switches back to 15 seconds of timeouts, and so on. When getting error 42, it ALWAYS gets it for 18 seconds straight.  It usually gets error 56 for 15 seconds (3 timeouts) but sometimes for 20 seconds (4 timeouts).
    When the cRIO disconnects, it can't be contacted by any computer through the ethernet port, yet the link lights still show that it is connected. If its connected directly, both the green and orange link lights on the cRIO light up, but when it is connected through the 10 Mb hub, only the orange link light lights up, but the hub shows that the cRIO is connected to it. In spite of this, it is still impossible to ping the cRIO in either scenario.
    It is possible that, in addition to what computer the cRIO is connected to, the errors could be related to whether the cRIO has a direct connection to a computer or if it is connected through a hub. Today, we have only managed to get errors when the cRIO is directly connected to a laptop (one error after 1.5 minutes, one after 10 minutes, one after 7 minutes, etc.)  There were no disconnects when the cRIO was connected to a 10 Mbps hub for more than half an hour.
    Do any of those symptoms give you clues about what is happening?
    Thanks!

  • I uploaded videos to website server and when playing videos they keep buffering and stop & start

    Hello, I edited videos in PP CS6 and encoded 1920x1080 clips in .mp4 format. Encoded vbr 2pass 5.00 mbps , audio is AAC 320 kbps, 48khz. The videos play perfect in player on destop, and when downloaded from site, but don't play well
    in website player..Even after encoding down to 1280x720, and with a much smaller file size, they still don't play well on site. Please help-

    Jim, thank you for responding to my call for help. The internet server that I am uploading videos to, says that it is something to do with my videos size. Like I said I brought the size down to 1280x720 and also
    reduced the quality and size of the clips but they still buffered extensively. I had the designer change the player but that was not the problem. So I am back where I began. The server uploaded their video and it
    played with no problem so I am thinking its a small correction I need for html5 playability with my clips.

    I have unticked the automatic downloads boxes for music apps and books under preferences->store in itunes but they keep on downloading each time I start itunes. I DON'T WANT THEM APPLE! Just cos I made the mistake once to download them and then changed my mind, you're going to keep insisting I have them?! I have a limit on my broadband usage so don't want to download 5GB each time I open itunes thanks.

  • How start an api from one JVM and stop it from another ?

    Hi all,
    I want just one instance of a program. Thus I need constroled if an instance of this tools already exists. But from an other JVM, how can I do this ?

    The question in your title doesn't match the one in the body of the post. I'm guessing you want to prevent multiple copies of your application from running concurrently on the same box.
    Create a ServerSocket on a specific port upon start up. If it's successful, you have effectively locked a Mutex for your application. If it's unsuccessful, you can make the assumption that another instance of your application is already running so you should exit.

    With Metadata Navigator you can see all metadata, and execute objects like scenario, interfaces,...
    but you can't schedule scenario and I think that you can't stop an execution (even if I have a doubt)...
    I was using this module last year and I'm not using it anymore so I can't verify.

  • Pause and Stop implementation in streaming audio

    Hi,
    I am building a program that transmits audio over a TCP connection(using ServerSocket and Socket classes). My problem is that I am not being able to correctly implement the 'Pause' and 'Stop' option. Let's go into more details:
    When the "Play" button is clicked, following line is invoked:
       Play(){
         dataOut.write(fileToPlay.getBytes());
         // write the name of file requested to dataOut, and dataOut is the TCP socket's OutputStream
         //initilized as dataOut = dataSocket.getOutputStream
         controlOut.write( PLAY_REQUESTED_FILE);
         //an int argument, server interprets this and reads the dataOut
         //and sends the audio bytes after encoding
         Player P = new Palyer (dataIn, controlIn);
         PlayerThread pt = new Thread(p);
         pt.start();
    }                    the Player class's run method is:
    public void run() {
            stopReq = false;
         //here the line object is opened and started.
         int nBytesRead = 0;
         new Thread(stat).start(); //this thread gives continuos statistics of bandwidth used
         while (nBytesRead != -1) {
               nBytesRead = dataIn.read(buf);
               //some decoding of buf goes on here
                line.write(decoded, 0, decoded.length);
    }          The server works in a very similar fashion:
         when the PLAY_REQUESTED_FILE command is recieved, if invokes this play method:
              File f = getFileName(dataIn); // this gets the file name from input stream of the sockt
         Streamer s = new Streamer(f, dataOut);
         StreamerThread st = new Thread(s);
         st.start();
              the Streamer class's run method is:
              while (fis.available() != 0 ) {
              fis.read(dataBuffer);
              //fis is the stream to read the File object passed to constructor
              //some compression happens here and then,
              dataOut.write(dataBuffer);
              please help me implement the stop and pause options(the client GUI has the pause and stop buttons in place).
         as always, help is greatly appreciated,
         thanks in advance
         Ishwar

    thank you for your reply captfoss, i see that you're always the first one to reply, i am really grateful for that.
    yes, i have already written code for issuing the stop and pause command, but i don't know how exactly one should implement them. i mean, i sure there'll have to to be some sort of lock object on which notify( ) and wait( ) methods will have to called, but i am not being able to do that. . something similar (but not same) thing has been discussed here http://www.javalobby.org/java/forums/t18465.html at the end of the page, please help as i have tried everything i can and still it adamantly refuses to work..

  • Starting and stopping stream capture repeatedly

    Hi,
    I am building a vmail server that captures an incoming, continuous RTP voice stream from a hardware phone and records portions of that stream to disk, based on control messages received (like record/stop buttons for a continuous RTP stream).
    The first time I record, the sound file on the file system is well formatted. Subsequent recordings result in headerless audio files (although the audio data is correctly output to file otherwise).
    The problem is that I need to get header information written to the audio files for subsequent recordings.
    Here is a bit of source code to show how I am starting and stopping recording. At this point, the processor is already created and realized and the MediaLocator is previously initialized:
         MediaLocator recordedML ;
         public void startRecording() {
              try {
                   processor.start();
                   DataSource ds = null;
                   ds = processor.getDataOutput();
                   recordingDataSink = Manager.createDataSink(ds, recordedML);
                   recordingDataSink.open();
                   // starts sticking captured data into a file
                   recordingDataSink.start();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              } catch (NoDataSinkException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
         public void stopRecording() {
              try {
                   recordingDataSink.stop();
                   recordingDataSink.close();
                   recordingDataSink = null;
                   processor.stop();
                   processor.deallocate();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
    Calling startRecording() and stopRecording() the first time results in a properly formatted sound file on the file system, captured from my incoming RTP stream.
    Calling startRecording() and stopRecording() subsequent times results in headerless audio files.
    So the problem seems to be that subsequent calls to processor.getDataOutput() result in a DataSource that doesn't print a file header.
    What I have tried includes:
    -recreating the processor, but this doesn't work because it seems you can only do this once for a single incoming stream - the processor never reaches the configured state a second time.
    -reconfiguring the processor or re-realizing the processor, which doesn't do what I want either.
    One way that I think this would work would be to write out the audio header manually after the capture is complete, but this seems like a gross hack and I would rather do it through JMF.
    Is there a way to fix this via JMF? Is this a JMF bug or is it intended to work this way?
    Cheers,
    -Jeff

    Hi, I am unfortunately unable to help you but perhaps you could help me. I have a Java GUI that I want to enable to record voice from a mic at the click of a button (stopping automatically if possible) and save to a defined file in the code. Would you be able to help me here? I have tried different source and rejigged things but I cannot seem to get anything working.
    Any help gratefully apreciated.

  • Dynamic live streaming on AMS 5 on AWS buffering and skipping

    I'm having a lot of trouble getting Adobe Media Server 5 on Amazon Web Services working with live dynamic streaming, I've done a of this on Flash Media Server 4.5 and am trying to duplicate what I have done there on AMS since I got an email that FMS 4.5 will be dropped soon.
    I have tried replicating my own setup from FMS 4.5 and I have also tried using the base install and following Adobe's tutorial. I get the same results in both events.
    First, the HLS streaming appears to work fine. I've watch it on several iOS devices with no problem.
    I use StrobeMediaPlayback for HDS streaming and that's where there are problems. The streams usually play fine at first and even transition well, then after a few minutes I start getting a lot of buffering and then video skipping. The longer it goes on, the more it buffers and the larger chucks of video get skipped. Sometimes I also get and error that says "TypeError: Error #1009"
    I am using FMLE and both it and the server are set to use absolute time.
    Any help would be appreciated!!

    Hi,
    Welcome to Adobe forums.
    May I know the FMS URL and the stream name you are using inside the FMLE and make sure you have full permissions on Adobe media server folder. And also check the streams folder inside the livepkgr folder and see if you are getting all the files created.
    And would you mind if you can send me the logs folder at [email protected] so that I can analyse this issue at my end.
    Regards,
    Puspendra

    I have noticed an issue with utilizing the “stream” function on iOS 7. If you choose to just stream the movie by hitting the play button it seems to actually start downloading (which is fine) but if you are say halfway thru the movie and stop you can clearly see that storage has been reduced under the usage, yet under the “videos” tab it still states “No Data” the only way to delete what you have partially downloaded is to fully download the video, which is fine but there is no way to tell what videos have been partially downloaded (I.e which occurs a lot when your child switches between movies using the so called “stream” function). This becomes troublesome once the capacity of the ipad is almost met and you have no way to delete this data since you may have several videos that have started to be viewed (hence partially downloaded). Apple needs to somehow make it truly streaming or provide an update so the storage can be managed. The only way I have been able to remove partially downloaded videos is by doing a total software restore. (The video data that is in question when connected to my MacBook shows up in iTunes as “other”) if you have any insight into this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Here are the screenshots for what it's worth.
    Not sure why I can't post them in the original post.<br>

    '''Again, when I set my DNS server to automatically detect the servers both problems disappear and I have no issues at all.'''
    IMO opendns is either doing this on purpose (unlikely) or they're under some sort of attack/being used to attack the specific torrent sites although I'm open to other explanations. I believe using the automatic setting for DNS is using my own ISP's DNS servers (which again, work fine... but still...)
    I'd rather not use Google's public DNS servers as Google is to commercial these days and I think there's potential privacy issues.
    '''Again I have changed the setting for DNS servers back and forth several times to duplicate/verify the issue(s)... and the issues only happen with the opendns servers.'''

    You have to reset the device to Factory Settings in order to restore it from an iCloud backup. You probably want to back it up as is before you do this.
    To do the reset after you have backed up the current device, go to Settings>Reset>Reset all Content & Settings. This will erase the device. If you are signed onto iCloud with Find My iPhone turned on, go to Settings>iCloud and scroll to the bottom to sign out of iCloud before you do the reset.
    Once you have reset your device, you will set it up like a new phone. When it asks if you want to restore it from an iCloud backup, select the backup you want to restore it from.

    Photostream is separate from iCloud backups.  Were the photos part of the backup, or only part of Photostream?
    If they were part of the backup, then restore your device from the iCloud backup.
    If they were only part of Photostream, then that is, again, temporary storage, for up to 30 days.  After 30 days, the photos may or may not be available.
