Stream Itunes via ethernet instead of wireless?

I have connected Airport to my network via the router and and ethernet cable. It all went well but itunes is not recognizing that I have airport.
Is it possible to stream music to Airport this way?
I do not have a wireless card on my system at this time. thanks for any help you can give me.

  • Best Practices for Using Airport Express to Stream iTunes via Ethernet

So I've been reading various posts about using Airport Express to stream iTunes and I've been reading various posts about using the Ethernet port on the Express. However, not sure I've yet found an inclusive listing of settings for both. Wondering if anyone out there has such a thing?
I have an (older) Aiport Express (802.11g, no 'n') running the latest Firmware (6.3, I believe). I have it lashed into my switch via a Cat 6 cable and the 3.5 stereo mini running out to RCA jacks into my RussSound (home audio system) amp. I'd like to make the Express ONLY a iTunes streaming device getting its network link over Ethernet (AirTunes). So, what does everyone suggest for best settings for turning on the Ethernet, turning off the WiFi and running AirTunes?
    Thanks much in advance!
    cheers

Airport > Wireless > Wireless mode "off"
Internet > Internet connection > Connect using "Ethernet", Configure IPv4 "via DHCP"
    Music > Enable Airtunes
Enable Airtunes over Ethernet (if this choice appears).
When I first did this, the remote speakers didn't appear in iTunes. I poked around to see what I missed and couldn't find anything wrong, but the next time I ran iTunes the remote speakers appeared.
If you run into a firewall problem, make sure your OS X firewall is configured to "set access for specific services and applications": http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/18503.html
Firmware 6.3 is correct for your Express.

  • Cameras Wired Ethernet instead of Wireless

Comcast supports Powerline adapters which could be used to wire the cameras for ethernet instead of wireless...... Can you have the firmware settings by default connect to wired?   Currently the option in the cameras is set to by default go over wireless and if I have a camera witha  weak wireless connection it will use that over a strong wired connection with the latest firmware release.

  • Stream iTunes & Internet Ethernet Connection

I have an AE and I currently stream iTunes with it. It's located at my stereo in my living room.
I have added a BlueRay player to my home entertainment system and I now would like to activate the ethernet connector on the AE so I can get internet and connect to the BlueRay player.
Specifically how would i do this?
    Thank you

In order to enable the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) Ethernet port will depend on which model (802.11g or 802.11n) that you have.
You would basically have three options:
o Wireless Distribution System (WDS) (available for both models)
    o Extend a wireless network (802.11n only)
    o ProxySTA (802.11n only)
For either of the first two options the existing wireless router needs to be another 802.11g or 802.11n AirPort. The last option can work with either AirPort or non-AirPort routers.

  • Can AppleTV be setup to use Ethernet instead of wireless?

When I use the wireless, I often get freezing and jumping during movie playback. I've connected the AppleTV via ethernet cable (Cat6) to the router which connects the all systems in the house, but unless I have it connected via wireless... none of the computers (iTunes) see it. Is there some setting necessary to allow ethernet connection to the iTunes library or is AppleTV only capable of wireless connections?

The Apple TV can be connected either wirelessly or with wired ethernet and it automatically detects which to use based upon whether an ethernet cable is connected to the unit. If none of your computers (iTunes) can see the Apple TV when it is connected with the ethernet cable then you either have a setup or network problem or the other computers are on a different local network.
Have you tried restarting or resetting the Apple TV after you switch the connections? You can restart the Apple TV by holding down on the remote's menu and minus ("-") buttons simultaneously for about six seconds.

  • Connecting via Ethernet - backing up wirelessly

    Hi
I have placed an order for Time Capsule but I have been wandering....
Is it possible to connect to the Time Capsule via Ethernet for the Internet Connection, whilst the back up takes place over wireless? Or does it mean if I connect via Ethernet, the back up and Internet connection will be via Ethernet? What I am concerned with it Lag on the network (same applies too for Wireless) and would like wireless back up whilst connecting via Ethernet to the Net.

  • Transferring itunes to new itunes via ethernet cable

I want to transfer the music from my old itunes to the itunes on my new computer. As my old computer is pretty much knackered, the easiest way for me to do this i figure is via ethernet cable. can this be done, and if so, how do i go about doing it?

Sure, get a crossover ethernet cable.
Windows has built-in utilities to get this done. You didn't say which OS you are using, but here is an example for XP

  • I can home share to Apple TV via ethernet but not wireless.  Please help!!

This has been driving me mad for a week now. I have an acer Laptop using windows vista. When I connect the Ethernet cable to my rout and laptop, home sharing works fine. But as soon as I disconnect and go wireless, Apple TV cannot find my library. My partner has a HP laptop that operates on windows xp. That works fine. can anyone help and give me a step by step guide with what to do? I've checked every apple forum on the matter and nothing seems to work. I figure it's got something to do with my wireless Internet settings. It can't be the router if my partners library shares ok, right?? I've uninstalled macafee and even turned my windows firewall off. But surely these weren't problems in the first place if Ethernet connection works?!? Am not very tech savvy, so any simple things to check would be SO appreciated.

Homesharing should work over ethernet too, ask your network provider about homesharing, it may be that the university doesn't allow it.

  • Can I back up to time machine via ethernet instead of wifi?

A while ago I moved house and have only just got around to setting up my time capsule again. I started a backup its probably 10 weeks since the last one and I have about 75GB to back up. It is taking ages on the wifi link, can I plug in ethernet to speed up the process. I Have had a snout about but cant find a preference that allows this
    Any tips?

Doh! all sorted now - i'd forgotten about airport utility!

  • I have a printer (HP LaserJet 2100) connected via ethernet to my wireless router (Netgear) and want to use it from my MacBook Pro.

However, the print & scan window just allows me to click on 'add', but then eveything is greyed out and the printer is not displayed.
I was able to connect the printer without any problems to my Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows (Vista) systems and I'm used to having the least problems with Macs up to now.
I've read about similar problems here and followed the advise, but the problem remains.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

For you to "see" the printer in the Default view after you click the plus button to add, the printer would have to support an advertising protocol like Bonjour. For Linux and Vista, you would have added the printer by selecting a protocol and entering the IP address of the printer. You can do the same thing on the Mac. In Print & Scan, after you click the plus button to add, select the IP icon and then enter the IP address of the printer. Change the Protocol menu to HP Jetdirect-Socket (this is called RAW Port 9100 on the other OS's); leave the Queue name blank; change the Name to LaserJet 2100; leave the Location blank and select the supporting model name in the Use menu. Click to Add and then see if you can print.

  • Question regarding ONT connection via Ethernet and Cable cards

    Hi,
We recently upgraded to Fios Quation 150Mbps/65  plan. We are not getting the advertised speeds (we only get like 5mbps upload) so verizon is sending a tech to switch the ONT connection from coax to ethernet.
I have 2 questions regarding this new setup:
    1. If the ONT communicates with the Fios Actiontect router via ethernet instead of coax from now on, How will the set top boxes and Tivo-esque cable card powered device I currently have connected to coax, talk to the verizon system from now on, if coax is taken out of the equation? Will fios signal still flow through the internal coax wiring of the house? And moreover, I was under the impression that coax was the way set top boxes communicated and derived independent ip addresses from the Fios router, for on deman purposes and what not. How will this work from now on?
    Quiestion 2.
Right next to the wall where the ONT sits, theres's a basement office where we have a PC that connects to the Fios system  via an Actiontect MoCa adapter (ECB2500C) which I assume derives it internet connection from the Fios Actiontec router which sits upstairs in the living room.
Again, with the Coax about to be disabled next Friday in favor of ethernet connection from the ONT, I assume this PC will be left without internet because of the lack of internet signal in the coax? Is this correct?
Question 2.5 If my above assumption is correct, since this office is right on the other side of the wall where the ONT sits outside the house, would it be possible to run an ethernet wire through the wall that connects straight from the ONT to an ethernet switch inside the office, from which I would derive a connection for this basement PC (properly firewalled of course) and then, from said switch, continue running the ethernet wire that would ultimately reach the Actiontec Fios router upstairs from which the rest of the house derives it's internet?  and would this setup affect in any way the propper functioning of the cable boxes in the house?
I'd appreciate your input and any help you can provide so I can have a ballpark idea of what to tell the Fios guy to do when he comes on Friday.
    Cheers.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's not valid to have two devices connected to the ONT, PC and VZ Router.  Must be a single device. The ONT locks onto the MAC Address of the first device it sees. Since you have TV you should have the VZ router as the internet facing router.
    Other options:
    1.  Have the VZ Router located next to the PC in the basement and then use Wireless for all other PC's.
    2.  Have the VZ Router located next to the PC in the basement but run one wire upstairs and connect a switch where other PCs and devices can connect via a wire.
    Hope that helps.

  • Airport Extreme Base Station to Express via Ethernet?

I have both a new Extreme (n) and Express (n) and am trying to set up a network between two buildings. I have been successful with the wireless network, yet the wireless signal between buildings is not strong enough for streaming video. The current configuration is the Extreme in one building connected to the cable modem. This is where the strongest signal is found. The express is in the main house and the signal is much weaker.
My question: If I run an ethernet wire from one building to the next, can I connect these two Airport devices via ethernet to strengthen the signal? How would I configure this in the Airport Utility?
I made an attempt to plug the ethernet into both and the Utility stopped seeing either device and I lost the internet connection.
I may not understand the way these devices communicate with each other. If anyone can point me in the direction of a solution I would be grateful. My goal is to have a signal strength strong enough to stream Netflix videos in the house with the Express. I am thinking that if the Express is wired to the base station via ethernet then the wireless signal from the Express would be sufficient to stream wirelessly to a new Macbook... Possible?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

A couple of questions. First, at AirPort>Wireless>Wireless Mode should the selection be "Join a wireless network" or "Off"? I currently have Join a the wireless network selected.
For both base stations, Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network.
When I am at Internet>Internet Connection the screen is muted, which means I can't change anything. The two items on the page say "Connect Using: Wireless Network" and " "Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)" - as you mentioned. This is correct, right?
For both AirPorts, Connect Using = Ethernet; For the AEBSn, Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address; For the AXn, Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
The Extreme (connected to modem) and Express (ethernet cable will connect to port on Extreme) have different names. And each is configured to participate in the same network.
    Both would be correct.

  • Use Time Capsule as a Hard Drive via Ethernet for Time Machine

    Hi Folks
    To summarise a very very long story here goes;
    - About 12 months ago my father in law buys a Time Capsule without really knowing what it is for and how it works (I know don't ask!!!!!)
    - I set it up for him connected to his wireless router so he uses his router to access the internet and uses the Time Capsule to back up his iMac via wireless with Time Machine. (from what I can see he could have saved himself some cash and just bought an external Hard Drive and connect it via USB to the iMac for Time Machine, but never mind. He has 1 iMac and no other Mac's in the household. His printer is connected to his iMac via USB in the same room and he uses a wireless router to access the internet, since the phone point is in another room)
    - All is well until Monday when he tells me he cannot access the internet. After much much trial and error I have eventually managed to get his internet back up and running, but he has somehow managed to erase his Time Capsule.
    - I set his Time Capsule back up as it was previously and it starts performing the initial backup again. However at the rate its taking I think it will take well in excess of 24hrs to do that initial
backup. Also so far It has failed 3 times during this initial backup and I get an error message stating it's failed. The setup guide makes reference to performing the initial backup via ethernet as it's quicker.
I'm thinking the best way forward would be to just plug the Time Capsule into the iMac via ethernet and use it purely as a Hard Drive for use with Time Machine. I've tried just plugging in the ethernet cable from the Time Capsule to the iMac, but it doesn't recognise it. Bear in mind that it currently works via wireless, do I need to perform some sort of factory reset or how do I go about telling the the iMac to no longer use the Time Capsule wireless, but just connect via ethernet instead.
Of course I could just forget about the Time Capsule all together and tell him to get a 500gb USB External Hard Drive, plug that in and set up Time Machine with that instead.
Am I missing the point here and can the Time Capsule do a lot more for him, given his current setup.
    Thanks

That is true but if you mix your files with the Time Machine backups, Time Machine will have trouble contril disk space when it gets low.
If you are going to do that it is recommended that you partition the drive. Since Time Capsule is not able to partition the drive that means you will have to remove it in order to partition it.
A simple solution IMO is to get another external drive and hang it on the USB bus in the Time Capasule.

  • Can't connect via ethernet after iBook wakes up from sleep

I'm running 10.4.0 on a 1.33 GHz G4 iBook. Since buying the computer in 2005, I've been connecting to the internet in various locations via AirPort, though I have hooked my iBook up to ethernet connections in the past and had no problems.
Recently I moved to a university where I must connect via ethernet, as the wireless network doesn't extend to the areas where I do most of my work. I bought a new cable. Much of the time, my connection is fine. But frequently I am unable to connect to the internet at all via ethernet, and I've noticed that it's always after I've woken the computer up from sleep. I've tried various ridiculous "kick the car and maybe it will start" techniques like unplugging the cable at both ends and waiting, restarting five or six times in a row, etc., and it starts connecting eventually, but I have NO idea why or why not. When I check my network preferences, I get the message "Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address [xxx.xxx.x.xxx]. You are connected to the Internet via Built-In Ethernet." But I'm not. What's going on here?

Sorry, meant to indicate an IP address without giving the exact numbers, and it came up as an HTTP address. My network connections system preference panel indicates a normal IP address. (And it's not self-assigned.)

  • Ip adress not recognized in windows explorer when trying to transfer data from my PC to my TC via ethernet.

    Hello,
I currently have a Time capsule and a Pc with a Windows 7 operating system. Im trying to transfer data from my PC to my Time Capsule via ethernet cable because wirelessly takes too much time given that I have a lot of data to transfer. In my Airport Utility I already set my workgroup to "WORKGROUP" and the file sharing to "write and read", I also disconnected the Wifi on my Pc so the ethernet would work without confusions.  But when I type my Time Capsule's Ip address in my windows Explorer it opens a page that says something like "this website is not available". Maybe I did something wrong while setting up the time capsule for file sharing. What are the correct steps for me to be able to transfer data from my PC to my time capsule via ethernet cable?

I do not normally use a PC, but we have a guest here this week with a PC using Windows 7 which allows for some "testing" on the network.
What is the Ethernet connected IP address of the Time Capsule?  Mine is 10.0.1.2
If we open Windows Explorer and type in
    \\10.0.1.2
the Time Capsule drive is immediately seen on the PC once I enter the device password for the TC to connect.
I can also type in the name of the Time Capsule and things work the same way. My Time Capsule name is TC
    \\TC
brings up the same log in as the IP address method above
We have not tried mapping the drive, but might. Will post on results if we do that.
