Stream Mac desktop to AppleTV (or PS3)

I was wondering if it would be possible to stream my Mac's desktop to the AppleTV? I'm thinking of the following process, but not sure where to start:
- Use VLC or some kind of video capture software to stream to a file.
- Share this file through iTunes (or a DLNA server for PS3)
- Access this file through Apple TV (or PS3)

Photo Stream does not move my photos to my Mac Desktop

I have loaded photos from my camera Compact Flash card to my iPad 3 using the camera connection card reader. The photos appear on my iPad after several attempts at moving them but they do not go to the Mac desktop computer. When I checked the Photo Stream album on the iPad there are only 8 photos there out of nearly 200, these went to the Mac but then everything ground to a halt!! The Photo Stream is obviously enable on both desktop and iPad as it did start to move them. As this was one reason I wanted the iPad I would like to get this sorted ASAP. Is there a maximum file size? My camera shoots around 10MB per photo.

Yes, you will need iPhoto 9.2 (of which the latest version is 9.3) in order to use photo stream on your Mac.

2010 Mac Mini vs AppleTV

Finally succumbed to temptation and bought a new Mac Mini today.
Partly an impulsive purchase.
Haven't unboxed it yet, and it might be something I'll regret later, especially with the new AppleTV on the horizon.
Will report back.

As I say an impulsive purchase, but an itch that needed scratching in effect, ever since it gained HDMI.
My rationale:
1 - Using my Mac Pro for AppleTV iTunes duties is overkill, and wasteful - new Mini 10W or so idle, 2008 Mac Pro 155W idle. Off the top of my head it might take a few years for the Mini to pay for itself in energy savings, but potentially a benefit over time. So plan is to use Mini as iTunes server for AppleTVs.
2 - My other Macs are not lounge/TV room friendly or WAF compliant!
3 - We can debate all day whether or not there's much benefit in 1080p vs 720p vs 540p for home video playback, but when you have 1080i/p capture devices without the option to capture at 720p, your forced with AppleTv to re-encode, even with the new machine. I've mentioned before I don't have the patience to edit video, and consequently a lot of it goes unwatched. So I see this device as a way just to play the video quickly without embellishments.
4 - I plan to locate the new device near the hi-fi to allow high-quality recording and playback of some old vinyl using an ADC/DAC, clearly AppleTv is not designed for this, but as we know AppleTv is limited to 44.1kHz 16 bit PCM for stereo. The mini isn't and it'll be feeding a DAC for playback.
5 - I've bought some high quality studio master quality FLAC audio, admittedly not much, but I don't have a suitable playback vehicle without a computer/DAC combo, and again the form factor is important here.
Yes, it would also allow internet browsing/e-mail etc and more varied codec/container support which are not necessarily as important, but in many ways it's just something I want to try and seeing as the new AppleTV is not entirely what I want I convinced myself to try this.
I'm bound to buy a new AppleTV for it's unique features, and it may be just the ticket for domestic usage streaming via the Mini.
Just thought I'd add another comparison overview, seeing as I'll be in a position to do so before long.
Getting late now, and I think man flu is taking hold so may not have much chance to play in next day or so.

If you mean by using photo stream, you can but iCloud only keeps photo stream photos for 30 days. You will need to download them to your Mac during this 30 day window or they will no longer be available.
Or, just leave the photos in the camera roll on your iPad until you return, then import them to iPHoto on your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

If you can get it on your iPad (or Mac) and it meets the spec with the right ios you can mirror your screen so the NBT TV plays via apple tv. Apple TV cannot add features if the designers don't allow it, I think the issue is with NBA TV not wanting in not with Apple.

Last night i was using my external hard drive, for some reason the folder just closed and i couldn't find it on my desktop.
After googling solutions, i found it in the disk utilities, i clicked on the 'repair' button many times, but it said the 'error...' message.
So i ejected it to try again, now when i connect the USB external hard drive it doesn't show up on my desktop or disk utilities.
I really just want to either repair or recover the data on it because it literally has everything (documents, work files, photos etc) on it,
I downloaded an application to recover my files but it needs the USB to at least show up.recognise it which mine doesn't.
I know i should've backed it up on another USB, this definitely teaches me for next time to back up all my files.
Are the files lost forever or can i recover them by going to a shop or using a software?

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 6.1.6 for a fourth generation iPod touch.

I have a Apple Mac desktop and recently was unable to access any YouTube, movies, videos, etc because a "Blocked Plug-in" message comes up with no error message. It asks to upload Abode Reader, but upon completion of this the message is the same.

if you already downloaded the adobe flash player onto your mac and still getting that message that means you need to finish the installation of the flash player
you do this by opening a finder window and going to your downloads, find the flash player in here and then double click on it and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
after this is completed you will need to completely quit out of the web browser you're using then reopen it for the change to take affect and your issue should be resolved. if it's not you need to contact adobe their number is 800 642-3623.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
If you have a PPC Mac you cannot sync your idevice without a newer computer. See the end of this post for options.
If it says you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (if you don't already have it -- OS 10.6), but check system requirements first:

You can.
Your home account can have its own hard drive.
iTunes Media Library can be shared. Or not.
Even have your own boot drive if needed and you have different applications and configuration.
The Mac Pro and OS X are designed for multiple users. Not being limited to just one (or two, now that SSDs have found their way into iMac and laptops) has allowed more people to off load their media and data from the boot drive, which is always good.
