Stream movies via wifi

Hi All,
I have a satillite receiver with wifi. Can I stream movies that are on my hard drive to the satellite receiver to play on my TV. It is not an Apple TV.
Thanks
Paul

Thanks DakarDBX for reporting on your success with Personal Hotpot WiFi and AirPlay.
I am going to be going on a fishing trip to a remote area. We will have electricity but there is no cell service.
Based on DakarDBX successful results I am thinking that I should be able to connect a set of AirPlay enabled speakers to my iPhone 4. I don't think that this is exactly the same as DakarDBX experiment because I would be asking the iPhone to power the Wifi and to send music over the WiFi signal.
Plan:
1) Set up a Personal HotSpot WiFi on the iPhone
2) Configure the speakers use the HotSpot WiFi
3) Use AirPlay on my iPhone to send music to the speakers.
Has anyone tried this ...
Note: I am planning to power 2 set of speakers (indoors and outdoors) and I would rather not run wires if I can avoid it.
Thanks in advance

  • Streaming movies via Apple TV

I have the Turner Classic Movies app loaded on my iPad Air. Is it possible to stream movies from the TCM app running on my iPad to my HDTV using an Apple  TV device?

Hi - I am having no luck with TCM... I want to use 'watch TCM' app and mirror from my iPod to a larger TV. Everything else works (like browsing web, other apps, etc.) - but 'watch TCM' just gives me a blank screen on the TV - rather than mirroring what's on my iPod.
Can U tell me TCM is not compatible with airplay/ipod to Apple TV? If some providers block (not sure why) is  there a work around?
    Thank you!

  • I still cannot stream YouTube/Netflix/iPlayer etc. on my iPhone 4 via WiFi since updating to iOS 6.0.1....can anyone please solve this for me??

I posted a couple of days ago about a problem my iPhone 4 was having trying to stream video via WiFi
Basically, since I upgraded to iOS 6.0.1 I cannot stream YouTube videos via the app or via Safari, Netflix will not work nor will services such as BBC iPlayer.
I've also discovered this evening I cannot stream any radio apps either.
All of them will play for 10-30 seconds then stop buffering making them impossible to play.
I was given several pieces of advice including restoring the phone to factory settings, restoring it as a new phone, hard resetting twice in a row, deleting all the cache/data in Safari but nothing that has been suggessted has solved the problem.
I know it is not a problem with my internet/WiFi as I have a laptop and a PC both using it and streaming YouTube/raddio stations etc. with no problem. Also, my girlfriend has a 3GS with the old YouTube player and that works with no problems at all.
Can anyone please help me out as it's getting a bit frustrating not being able to use the streaming function on my iPhone.
One thing that is odd, I have no problem surfing the web on the phone via WiFi or streaming over 3G. It is only a problem when trying to stream video/audio over WiFi.
    Thanks.

This is a link to the Apple support page on this issue. Have you tried all of these steps?

Not sure what you mean that you have no signal but are on 3. What are you trying to say?

  • HT4437 streaming .mov to apple-tv via airplay

    Hi,
I would like to stream a streaming .mov movie via airplay to my Apple TV3 box.
how can I do that, since I cannot place the movie-file into iTunes as suggested in support forums.
    (streaming movie URL = http://hstreaming.zdf.de/zdf/veryhigh/130107_teilzwei_fs_adl.mov )
if iTunes allowed my to identify the movie via URL, that would probably help, but I havent found any method like that.
thank you for hints and help!

    Hello mirko,
If you are still experiencing streaming issues to your Apple TV from your MacBook, I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article:
iTunes: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    Wi-Fi Connection
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your AirPlay-enabled device.
Ensure that other devices aren't trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.
    Ethernet Connection
Temporarily disable firewalls (both network and local) and security software. Security software and firewalls may block ports that AirPlay uses to stream content. You can often resolve issues with security software by updating, correctly configuring, or uninstalling security software.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

Topic: Microsoft's Silverlight for Mac. I wanted to video stream a movie via Verizon FIOS. It demanded Silverlight.dmg.  Macbok Pro refused to download from 3rd party supplier (CNET). How can I get this from Apple?  The Verizon FIOS video website was churning on the error message, "Checking device registration status."  It got stuck in a loop. Verizon tech support never came on. Was on terminal "Hold."  Any recommendations?

Never download anything from CNET. The site is untrustworthy and is known to distribute Windows spyware intentionally.

  • I can stream movies on my iMac.  How can I stream these same movies on my TV via Apple TV?

I can stream movies on my iMac.  How can I stream these same movies on my TV via Apple TV?

Hello, it seems that you can mirror your Mac desktop on your Apple TV if you have a very recent Mac and OSX Mountain Lion. The other alternative is the very efficient third party software called Air Parrot (http://airparrot.com/)
I've just started using it with my Mabook pro Mid 2010 running on Mountain Lion. It works perfectly well and only costs 10$... Hope it can help

I'm having the same problem.  It's not an issue with my TV, i've turned this feature off.  I've tried playing with the ATV display settings but nothing works.  When I stream netflix from my Samsung bluray player, I don't get the soap opera effect, but when I stream any video from the ATV, the soap opera effect is there.  I'm thinking it's a choice that Apple made, but I really wish it could be turned off.  Not a lot of people are searching for this, because it can be easy to overlook, but it's driving me nuts!

  • Cannot access rented movies via Clear USB Internet connection, but can via wifi and Time Warner Cable.  Has anyone encountered the same thing?

I recently rented a movie from iTunes (version 10.4.1.10 on a Windows 7 professional laptop) and when I am at home, on my Clear USB connection, I don't see the Rented Movies in my Library.  When I bring my laptop to work however, and connect to a Time Warner Internet connection via wifi, I am able to see my Rented Movies in my Library.  Has anyone experienced anything similar?

    The problem is similar to

  • ITunes streaming movies and tv shows via iPad - possible?

I really like to watch tv shows and movies on my iPad the problem is that I have to download them first :/ anyone may know if it is possible to stream tv shows and movies via iPad through iTunes without downloading like Apple TV..

I am also experiencing intermittent streaming from the cloud with 1080p content. My internet package is pretty decent with 25MB and when I download a show on iTunes, it shows a download speed of 22MB so all is well with my connection to apple. The only way I can stream content without any interruptions is to change the settings on the AppleTV3 to 720p.
I called my ISP and applied for a 50MB package and see it it helps.

  • What speed of wifi is recommended to stream movies from Netfix?

We are looking at getting wifi since we've moved and gotten the Apple TV. What speed of wifi is recommended so we can stream movies, watch YouTube videos and use our iPad, iPhones, and MacBook?

The speed of the Wi-Fi isn't really the issue, the speed of the Internet connection is.
    Test your broadband Internet connection
For the best viewing experience for iTunes content on Apple TV, you need a broadband Internet connection. We recommend these connection speeds for viewing content:
8-Mbit/s or faster for 1080p high-definition movies and TV shows
6-Mbit/s or faster for 720p content
2.5-Mbit/s or faster for standard-definition content

  • Streaming movies pause's when I view them via airplay

I run everything via Wifi, and apparently this is a fairly common problem.
What can I do to remedy the problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Used the purchased option in iTunes to download them.

  • Can no longer play movies via home sharing on Apple TV 2

I'm having trouble sharing movies via iTunes through home sharing.  Everything I have is Mac, a 2008 iMac, Airport Extreme, (2) Apple TV 2's, and a Macbook Pro.  Everything was fine with this entire setup with all of the movies I've ripped (using the Apple TV 2 settings in Handbrake) until Lion came out. Suddenly I got the 'Content cannot be displayed. Try again later' error message.  After much searching, I found that disabling IPv6 was a good solution, temporarily, that is until Apple released iOS 5.  I updated the ATV2's, iPhone, and iPad, and iMac with everything that came out during the update, and the issue came back.
I've tried everything I can think of, changing router channels, disabling IPv6 everywhere I saw it, wireless, hardwired, reloading the library, disabling the firewall, countless restarts of all my equipement etc.  All of these movies worked perfectly before the updates, and suddenly I cant stream anything through my local MAC network.
Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone found any solutions for this problem? I could really use the help, Apple support is... limited.

Problem solved for me!  After trying every possible setting on my equipment, including changing firmware revs on my router, rebuilding my library, re-encoding certain movies, changing all my iTunes, Network, Security, Sharing, and WiFi settings, I finally figured it out.
It looks to be a bug with the new iOS release V4.4 - Assuming you have your movies encoded in 5.1AC3 surround, you have to go into the Audio & Video settings on your ATV2, go down to Dolby Digital, and change the setting from Auto to On.  For me at least, it was simple as that.  I've tried all the same movies I was trying to play before, only then I was getting 'An error occurred loading this content.'  After changing the setting from Auto to On, every single movie began working again, in full surround sound. To test it, I switched the setting back to Auto and the same problem came back.  I'm sure Apple will have a fix for this later, but for now, we can assume 'Auto' means 'You cant stream your movies.'
    I hope this helps!

  • TS3623 Apple TV3 will not stream movies

My Apple TV3 will not stream movies and it takes a very long time for music to stream from my MacBook. I readjusted the resolution settings and it was the same thing. It gives me an "error occurred loading this content; try again later" message after spending several minutes of buffering after I try to play movies.
I have high speed 15 mbps Mediacom internet, which has never had any issues. I called Mediacom and they said my connectivity was excellent. I have reset my router/modem/AppleTV to no avail.  My homesharing is on and I have followed all other recommendations I could find on Apple forums concerning this same issue.
I am going to return this product for a Roku if I am not offerred a solution on the matter.
Apple, I hope you realize this is not an isolated incident.

From where? Internet or local iTunes library?

    Good.

I appreciate your frustration, but remember we are fellow users here, and you are not talkingto Apple support directly.
If you are connected via wifi try using ethernet if you can to rule out a wifi issue.
My AppleTVs are very stable with internet or LAN streaming 99% of the time, but since yesterday they have all behaved oddly - weird!

  • I am trying to move my wife's iPhoto '08 library to my new iMac for iPhoto '11.

I am trying to move my wife's iPhoto (2007) library on a Macbook to my new iMac for iPhoto '11.  First, when I opened iPhoto on the iMac it asked me to create a library, which I did.  Then I imported her photos via a wireless network to my "new" library.  However, when it finally finished importing, it had imported 3 copies of each photo from her library.  I deleted the "new" library and started over.
Second, I opened iPhoto on the iMac and chose to use "other library."  I chose my wife's shared iPhoto library and it began transferring the photos to the new iMac (or so I thought).  This worked beautifully as it only brought over single photos and not 3 copies like discussed above.  After editing the new library and adding some photos from an old PC, I shut down iPhoto.  A few hours later I tried to open iPhoto on the iMac and it gave me the opening screen again with choices to create a new library or use a different library.  As it turns out, my wife's Macbook and been disconneted from our wireless network.  I was able to figure out that that unless my wife's Macbook is connected to the network then I cannot access the iPhoto library on my iMac.  I was under the impression that I had copied her library to my computer and that the photo files were now on the hard drive of the iMac.  So when her computer is offline I can no longer access the imported library.  I want her library to stay on the iMac as we plan to sell her Macbook.  As you now know, we cannot access her iPhoto library on the Macbook since she is running an older version of iPhoto.
So, what I would like to do is to completely transfer the photos from her Macbook to my new iMac and be able to access them on the iMac regardless of whether she is on the network or not because we plan to sell her Macbook to a friend.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

  • IPhone no longer connects to iTunes via Wifi

On July 1,12 my iTunes did an automatic update.  After the computer restarting and I entered iTunes and the following messages appeared:
Message 1: Must reinstall itunes to connect to ipod or mobile devices.
Message 2: CD/DVD folder must be located in itunes folder in order to use with itunes
I have 2 iphones (both 4s, bought at same time, both running iOS 5.1.1)and one will briefly connect to itunes via Wifi (I will identify this one as iphone1) but the other one will not (I will identify this one as iphone2).  I have a PC with Windows 7.
When iphone1 is connected to itunes via wifi is disconnects randomly.  Under: Summary > Version, it has the message: Connect this iphone using a USB cable in order to update or restore its software.  When I have it connected with the USB cable, there are no problems. The settings selected under: Summary > Options > are: Open iTunes when this iphone is connected, Sync with this iphone over Wi-Fi,  & Manually manage music and videos.  The Setting under Backup > Back up to this computer (where it backs up to; I do not know)
iphone2 does not connect via Wifi but used to.  It connects without issues with the USB. The Settings in iTunes > Summary are the same as iphone2 except that iphone2 is set as Backup > Back up to iCloud.
My iphone2 is my primary device.  I use it exclusively; for music, taking photos, syncing photos to my Photo Stream folder on my PC, etc.  The iphone1 is my spouse's secondary phone, so its not used as often (ie: only has 4 songs downloaded, used to take the odd picture, has a mirror image of apps from iphone2).
I searched Apple Support and tried the following solutions that didn't solve this problem:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows (support.apple.com/kb/TS1567) &
Set the Apple Mobile Device Service Startup type to Automatic
I have not done this: Remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS. I did goto the: iTunes for Windows: Device Connectivity Tests > iOS > iPhone - iTunes Troubleshooting Assistantand into iTunes > Help > Run Diagnostics.  The results were: All tests passed. (My iphone2 was plugged in with USB. The iphone1 was connected via WiFi.)
What do I do now?  Do I need to remove and reinstall iTunes? and if so will I lose all my itunes info (videos, music, apps, settings) or will it just show up after I install iTunes?

    Hi Mitch,
It sounds like you have already done many of the steps, but I would like you to look at this article -

and go over any that you may have missed.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
