Stream Safari/DVD audio from my Macbook Pro to my Airport Express.

Is there a good way to stream all audio from my Macbook Pro to my Airport Express? Not just simply the iTunes audio.

This does work in general but not for my particular need.  I have a Mac G5 using ProTools and a MBox digitizing vinyl (USB connection).  I am on a MBP getting work done elsewhere in the house, but want to listen to the music and especially to tell when album side is done.  To get music to the MBP,  I have plugged the G5's line inputs to the MBox line outputs, then used messenger to create a chat with the MBP.  Too bad I could not get the G5's input to be the MBox, but ProTools wants sole control.  Works OK, but the messenger output on the MBP will NOT go to the Apple Express, just the speakers or headphone out jack.

  • I recently purchased an Onkyo stereo receiver with a wireless USB adapter, UWF-1, and want to stream audio from my MacBook Pro through my stereo system. The receiver tells me it is connected to my wireless LAN, but I cannot get music to play?

New to the community here, thanks for your patience.  I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver with the UWF-1 USB adapter with the intent to stream audio from my MacBook Pro to the stereo. I have gone through the setup instructions for the adapter and the receiver gives me a message saying that it is connected to the password protected network, but that is as far as I can get.
I have gone into iTunes and clicked on the "Open Stream" option, but I just get a pop up box labeled "URL" that is empty. I have Home Sharing turned on and File Sharing turned on, but I am not seeing the receiver in my Finder window or as a iTunes device.
I would appreciate any and all advice and assistance.
    Thanks so much.

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • MacBook Pro that  my Airport Express WiFi profile was created crashed. Can i reset the Airport Express either to an iPad or Windows 7 computer?

MacBook Pro that  my Airport Express WiFi profile was created crashed. Can i reset the Airport Express either to an iPad or Windows 7 computer?

Get the Airport Utility for the your iPad from the App store. You will need to know the password for the Airport Express (not the WiFi password) to access the AE. The iPad utility will, I think, do all of the actions to control your AE.
You can reset the AE back to factory default but with the iPad app you should not ned to.

  • How do I get audio from my macbook pro to my receiver with higher quality than the headphone jack?

I recently got a receiver and surround sound speaker system.  The quality of the audio from the CD player connected to it is far beyond the quality of the audio that comes from the MacBook pro via headphone jack to RCA connection.  This was confirmed by burning a CD from the MacBook, placing it in the CD player then testing the two against each other  -  the same audio piece from the CD player or the MacBook, both connected to the same receiver/speaker set up.  What other options might get better audio quality from the MacBook to the receiver?

The Mac's audio output doubles as a optical Toslink stereo mini jack, just use a adapter to regular Toslink and plug the optical cable to your surround sound system. Fiddle with the sound settings to enable optical output.
Mac's pass surround sound through, they don't do any processing.

  • How do I share a 3G USB modem connected to my Macbook Pro with my Airport Express?

Hi. I have a 3g USB modem connected to my macbook pro, and I want to try share the signal with my Airport Express (latest model).
Now before everybody screams that it can't be done, I was searching the forums and found a discussion in which someone describes how to do it from 2008, unfortunately it is archived and I couldn't ask the author directly, and the description doesn't go into much detail.
In the thread, the author describes turning internet sharing on to share the USB modem, creating a network on the macbook, then renaming the Airport Express network name the same as the macbook, and setting the AX to Join a Network.
Problem being there is no description of whether the macbook connected to the AX via ethernet or wifi, what settings were changed on the AX eg bridge mode.
Is this possible in theory, and has anybody had any success sharing a 3g USB modem via a macbook pro to an AX? I know there are other options like getting 3g ethernet modems, unfortunately not an option in this case - new house, waiting for DSL to be installed, 2-3 month wait.
    Thanks

Well, you cannot use the 3G USB modem plugged directly into the Express. However, you can configure your MacBook Pro to do 'Internet sharing' (SysPrefs>Sharing) over the Ethernet port, and then connect your Express into the Ethernet port. Alternatively, you could always get your MacBook to 'create a wireless network'.

You could always look for open WiFi networks to *cough*borrow*cough* .

  • Eject this DVD-R from my Macbook pro!

I burned some pics from my PC to transfer on to my macbook pro. The DVD-R won't read but also I cannot eject it!! I've tried ALL your tricks (forums, internet), and more.....what can I do?

Hold the Command and S keys while your MacBook Pro is starting, and type:
    drutil eject
    exit
If this doesn't work, your disc drive is damaged. Take it to an Apple Store to get your DVD drive replaced, or buy an external DVD drive, which is cheaper

  • No audio from my macbook pro

I've had a problem with my MacBook Pro (2008) for a while.
If I connect a headset or external speakers, there will be no sound from the Macs audio output. The built in speakers is working perfectly.
Do you have any idears what could be the reason? I tryed do reset the Pram but with no luck. If it helps there is no red ligt coming out of the macs output.
The problem occurred when I connected a mini-jack for my speakers.
Maybe the output thinks it's a S/PDIF and not a normal audio output?
    Regards
    Simon Duun

Have you looked in System Preferences -> Sound? Perhaps mute is on sometimes. Remove your audio cable and then reinsert it to see what the Sound panel displays. May be helpful to know the cable and the speaker interface you are plugging in.

  • How do I hear audio from my Macbook Pro 2009 to my LED TV?

I recently received an adapter for my Macbook Pro 2009, Mini DisplayPort (Mini DP) to HDMI Female Adapter + HDMI Cable for my birthday.  I knew before receiving this adapter I needed something to transmit audio to my TV.  However, th 1/8' (3.5mm) to RCA stereo audio cable I purchased does not work. Does anyone have a suggestion on which cable I need to purchase next to make the sound component work when connecting my laptop to my Toshiba LED TV?

The Mac's audio output doubles as a optical Toslink stereo mini jack, just use a adapter to regular Toslink and plug the optical cable to your surround sound system. Fiddle with the sound settings to enable optical output.

  • Transferring audio from my macbook pro to iphone 3g

I'm trying to create a voicemail box for my customers to call for monthly info and I want to include a song in the message (greeting). This sounds awful just holding up the phone to the computer so I was wondering what cable exists that will allow me to go from the macbook headphone jack to the iphone headphone jack and accept audio. I tried using a standard 1/8 male and of course that didn't work.
I perused the internet for about an hour and gave up.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Ahh OK I understand, no the headphone jack on the iPod is output only, the iPhone ear buds have a microphone on but that won't work with an iPod as far as I know. I think your best bet is to just cue the track on the Mac and at the right time play it back while holding the phone near the speaker ...

  • XBOX 360, MacBook Pro, PC and Airport Express don't all connect

Just got the new XBOX360 with built in wi-fi for Christmas! Also have a MacBook Pro and a PC connected wirelessly to my Airport Express.
Prior to the XBOX 360 the ApE worked flawlessly with the MbP and PC.
Now, depending on the day, either the PC or the XBOX will not connect with the ApE. I can connect wirelessly to XBOX Live one day, and not connect wirelessly to the PC the next and vice versa.
Powering off the cable modem resolves this, but only for one day, then the problem returns. Any suggestions?

By default, both should already by DHCP clients ... but it is possible that either or both were reconfigured with static IPs that may not be correct for your network configuration.
For the PC, I would need to know which operating system it is running.
For the Xbox 360, you configure, whether or not, it would be a DHCP client via the System Settings > Network panel. The key is that you want both the IP & DNS Addressing to be "Automatic."

  • Wireless connectivity issue between MacBook Pro/ iTouch and Airport Express

I'm creating a wireless network at home using my airport express and depending on the configuration settings I set in the airport utility, I will face the following issues:
1- To connect my MacBook Pro to the wireless network created, I have to set the radio mode to 802.11n only (5 GHz). Any other radio mode (a/b/g compatible or n only (2.4 GHz)) will not work ("Couldn't find the network")
2- Conversely, the use of the radio mode 802.11n only (5 GHz) with my iTouch doesn't work ("Couldn't find the network"). To connect my iTouch to the wireless network created, I have to set the radio mode to 802.11a/b/g compatible or to n only (2.4 GHz)
As a result, I manage to 1) either connect to a wireless network created with my airport express with my MacBook Pro only 2) or with my iTouch only, depending on the configuration setup.
I'm using the latest updates for the airport utility (7.4.2), iTouch (3.1.3) and Mac OSX (10.6.4).
    Any help on this?

if you set it to the most compatible with the least common denominator you should be able to connect with both. (If that's what I understand you are trying to achieve).

  • Greastest possible performace with 2011 macbook pro and 2008 airport express

What setting create the fastest possible speeds with a airport express  with a brand new 2011 macbook pro taking use of the 450 Mbits/s. For that, Apple changed their Airport card and also installed 3 antennas (instead of 2 before), something indispensabie to be able simultaneously to use 3 channels of 150 Mbits/s.

    Your router is likely fine.
You should first update the Airport firmware for it, simply run the Airport and Software update.
    See this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3802
And then go to your System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP and for IPv6 turn : OFF
Reboot and see how that goes.
When you connect to the router it gives you a lease on a IP address, if your computer's time and date are off this could make the lease expire and you connect and then get disconnected. So check that, see if it holds.
    Reset your SMC and NVRAM/PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Go to your <home> /Library/Preferences and drag the
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
file to the desktop and reboot, it will be rebuilt, hit your Sytem Preferences and reset them.
drag the useless file on the desktop to the trash.

  • MacBook Pro (November 07) Airport Express (Atheros AR5008) Problem

    Hello Guys
This is my first Post here.
    I'm very angry about Apple.
    Why?
Since Tiger 10.4.11 to 10.5.3 I have a big problem with my Airport Card.
In different WLAN-Networks I'm loosing my WLAN connection after 5 minutes. The current solution is to deactivate my card and activate it new. Then I have new 5 minutes to work in the WLAN.
What is the Problem at Apple?
I tried different Methods here in this Forum. For example to change the iofamily.kext driver. But it dosen't work for me.
Can I get a new WLAN card from Apple, wich is working?
In Bootcamp (Windows XP) I have the same Problem.
    Who can help me?

    Hi,
I have my MBP from june'06 and wireless problems on and off since using wireless. Some (firmware-/OS-)updates made wireless work better and some broke it again. So I think your problem is not a new one.
I suggested in earlier posts that the problem is hardware related (bad Atheros card?) and that Apple engineers are trying to work around it. The alternative for Apple would be a recall of all MBP's. In the meantime many people are very dissatisfied with their expensive MBP's.

  • What printers work on MacBook Pro Wireless or Airport Express Connected

I still cannot get my Samsung 1750 to print more than one time before having to reboot the AE. I am getting sick of this and worse, I am rather annoyed that Apple is not fixing what seems to be a reather pervasive problem affecting most every printer connected to the AE that previously had worked.
I am now thinking of buying another printer since I cannot keep rebooting the AE and I am so sick of reading of the non-solutions to this problem.
Can you all please recommend to me which printers actually do work? I notice that Brother makes a model that works wirelessly irrespective of any wireless router. Do you have any bluetooth or other wireless suggestions? Or other printers which DO work connected to the Airport Express.
    Thanks in advance!

Mircaculously I was able to get my Samsung 1750 to print. I am so happy.
So the question is mute for me but perhaps others will find this thread of interest. However, noticing that so few people have responded (none thus far), I can only say that this seems to be a question that ought to be answered so that others buy printers that do not cause immense hair loss.
    Cheers.
