Streaming and Delivery using Quicktime Pro software.

I was reading the tutorial about Streaming and Delivery with the Quicktime Pro software. I have questions around the steps that are listed to be taken in order to create a streaming video. Here are a list of the steps and the link to this website page.

Streaming & Delivery
Interested in streaming content from your site? Learn how to do everything from preparing your media for streaming to setting up a live broadcast and even displaying your media right inside the web browser.
1. Preparing to Deliver Streaming Media
2. Hint Tracks
3. Delivering Live Streaming Media
4. Reference Movies
5. Embedding QuickTime
The question I have is about step 2 Hint Tracks and what the tutorial says:
Movies that are intended for streaming via QuickTime Streaming Server must be hinted—that is, they need a hint track for every streamable media track. The hint tracks tell the server exactly how to package the media data for the network.
So these movies are not intended for streaming via Quicktime streaming server.. not even sure what this means but our server I believe is Windows 2000. So can I skip this part of setting up the video for streaming and just follow steps 1,3,4 and 5 or do I need to find someother way to do this?

QuickTime Pro only helps make .mov and .mp4 files ready for streaming. The files it creates must be served using special software.

is there any way else to do it without useing quicktime pro....hope apple fixes this in ios 7 the video should come out in landscape regardless of the way you hold your phone or if you start in portrait and go into landscape while recording

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

Adobe Premiere and Encoder cant see it; has anyone had troubles and
how do i fix this problem..help. I am try to use the apple codecs for
    digital editing "apple prores 422".

    Hi Gary
thanks for your reply, look I was loading the latest Quicktime and paid for the latest version of Quicktime Pro for windows as well as updating Itunes. After restarting my PC, the apple codecs would not show in the codecs list when i was preparing the output specs which are for the Australian broadcast which my boss wants of:
    1280 X 720, 25fps and Apple codecs prores 422.
Look I was wondering is there any area of Quicktime Player Pro that I have to turn on or off, I just wonder if I have to do something in Premier Pro or the other adobe program encore to convert certain levels of film from one level to another, as the camera crew I was with had 5 different levels of film to convert to the above format.
Do you have any other ideas that come to mind, I have had some troubles in the last six months with Indesign and Adobe pdf maker, I have alot of sucess with adobe before. I gratefull for any other hints. Cheers Hound Puppy

I used to shoot video in my Powershot S3 IS (Format MVI_.AVI) and load them into iPhoto, I used quicktime pro so I could convert for emailing to family members.  That was when I was running Leopard now with Mt. Lion nothing works.  Videos do not open at all.  Any simple suggestions, I am not real keen on iMovie Productions and not real certain how they compress for emailing attachments.  Something simple here that I am missing?  Thanks so much.  I am a grandpa trying to share with family members far away (quickly & simply).

I am surprised that Apple did not build a converter into Mt. Lion.
Apple does have a converter built into Mountain Lion. It is call "Quicktime." However, in order to use this converter, you must first make sure the compression formats are playback compatible with QT. Basically, there are three levels of QT compatibility. The lowest is "Playback." These file can be played by QT but may not be conversion or edit compatible with QT. The second level is QT "Conversion" compatible. These files are playback compatible and can be converted to other compression formats using QT. "Edit" compatible media files are "Fully" compatible with QT since the can be played, converted and/or edited by QT. The main problem here is that AVI is a "legacy" file format that has not been officially supported by Microsoft for more than 11 years when it was replaced by Windows Media multimedia file/compression formats. Many of the original compression formats used in AVI files have never been transcoded for the Mac platform, use beyond system 9, or use beyond PPC platforms. In addition, some commonly used AVI codecs are proprietary or use non-standard (hybrid) profile and level combinations. In short, there is little wonder that Apple has been distancing itself from this outdated file type as it re-writes and upgrades its own QT structure to support more standardized, more scalable, more modern high definition file types and compression formats. It is really unfortunate that users continue to use this outmoded file type simply because it is freely available, easy to use, or they are simply too lazy to move on to a more modern or more efficient file types and/or compression formats.
I tested Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate for the Mac, which seems to be the "state of the art".  I may be purchasing a new camera which might create a whole new set of variables.  This program seems to cover all bases and is great for novices.
There are many third-party apps available if you wish to search for them. Many are even available in the App Store. Most do their job well and it is usually a matter of personal user preference as to which is best.
HandBrake seems more suited to folks with more experience and knowledge.
I mentioned Handbrake primarily because it is free and easy to use when you employ the included conversion presets options. (The TV options can normally be used for almost any situation depending on the source file and output requirements.) It is also excellent for more experienced users, but has a somewhat limited choice of output options as it does not access the user's system QT codec component configuration.

  • PPT to DVD using Quicktime Pro

I am trying to transfer a Powerpoint slide to a DVD. I had heard it could be done using Quicktime Pro. I have made the PPT a .mov and can get it to open in Quicktime, but the animations and timing does not transfer. A 5-second PPT is coming out as 17 seconds long. How can I fix this?

QuickTime Pro doesn't export to the MPEG-2 format so it doesn't make DVD's
Your profile says you're using a Mac.
Export your .avi to DV Stream (.dv) format (make sure you can play them with QT first).
Use iDVD to burn your DVD. It will convert your .dv file into the MPEG-2 format used on DVD's.
If you don't have a built in DVD burner you may be able to use a Firewire external. Check before you buy to be sure it is compatible with iDVD software.

  • Recording using Quicktime Pro

I am trying to record a video which streams across my internet connection; the video uses Quicktime player.  I thought it was possible to do this using Quicktime Pro, so yesterday I spent $30 on the upgrade, but when I right clicked on the video screen and chose "Save as Quicktime Movie" and the destination folder, as that is there is 809 bytes of data, even though the info states the correct length of the movie.  I can click on the movie, and it opens a new screen and will play, but it is streaming, and I really need this to be where I can watch and listen to it offline.
Can anyone help me with this issue, if possible?  I hope I didn't waste $30.
    Thanks!
    JY

I don't know about any YouTube "streaming media". All I've ever seen is "progressive downloads".
Progressive downloads allow playback while the file continues to download. Streaming media is served from special server software that sends "hint tracks" and you can step through playback at any point in the file. You could view the last minute of an hour long streaming file as soon as you got the initial file started.

  • Video conversion using Quicktime Pro (Which Export Settings?)

I tried converting videos (.avi) to .m4v so that I can play them on my iPod Touch. However I am having problems.
iPod Touch documentation says that the following video file formats are supported by iPod touch:
    A H.264 (Baseline Profile Level 3.0)
    B MPEG-4 (Simple Profile)
    My question is:
    1. Can anyone show me how can i covert to those format using Quicktime Pro? And please do let me know which exact EXPORT setting I am supposed to use. I used EXPORT> Movie to iPod . It did not seem to work.
    Thanks in Advance.

I use it on a 24" iMac C2D running at 2.33GHz with 3GB of RAM, and it's much quicker than a regular QT export and a bit quicker than VisualHub. I won't quote a time to encode a "2 hour movie" because there's a lot more factors involved like resolution and original file encoding but the device is faster than using the twin cores.
No, it won't work with Handbrake, nor VisualHub for that matter. It acts as a plug-in (albeit hardware) for QT and any application that uses QT for export can utilise the turbo.264.
One other (for me big) advantage is that Elgatos own software for using the turbo.264 supports AppleScript and hence Automator.

  • Why can't I "trim to selection" on a MP3 and save using quicktime?

Is it not a simple procedure, using quicktime pro?
I have an mp3, that has 2 secs. of silence at the beginning.
I just want to trim using the "trim to selection" feature and save it.
But quicktime pro , states clearly, "document "xxxxxx" could not be saved.
Now that I think of it, Ive had this problem before when i was attempting to
trim a movie I had, but that was probably because it was in a differnet format that quicktime couldn't understand.
    Is this the same issue?
    no mp3 trimming?
    lost in Detroit

The QuickTime Movie Info window should show the audio codec used in the file.
    MPEG-1 (level 3) what people call .mp3
    http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/amm/techinf/layer3/
is very old technology and better formats do exist.
QuickTime Pro can open and edit this format. But it saves as the .mov "container". Still the same format but in a different "bucket".

  • Using QuickTime Pro to convert a series of JPEG images into a QT movie?

Can I use QuickTime Pro to convert a series of JPEG images into a QT (uncompressed) movie? Thanks...
      Windows XP

    Yes.
One of the features of the QuickTime Pro upgrade is "Open Image Sequence". It imports your sequencially named (1.jpg, 2.jpg) liked sized images (any format that QT understands) and allows you to set a frame rate.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/slideshow.html
You can also adjust the frame rate by adding your image .mov file to any audio clip. Simply "copy" (Command-A to select all and then Command-C to copy) and switch to your audio track.
Select all and "Add to Selection & Scale". Open the Movie Properties window and "Extract" your new (longer or shorter) file and Save As.
As you've posted in the Mac Discussion pages but your profile says XP you'll need to subsitute Control key where I reference Command key.

  • Use QuickTime Pro to extract audio from VCD

Can I use QuickTime Pro to extract the audio from a VCD? after that, I would like to convert that audio file to an mp3.

MPEG Streamclip is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
For others with the same need, here's my workflow for Extracting Audio from a VCD:
    * Pop the vcd into a computer and open it up.
    * Navigate to the MPEGAV folder. You should see something like AVSEQ01.DAT.
    * rename that to AVSEQ01.mpg
    * Drag this new .mpg file into MPEG Streamclip
    * File/Export Audio . . .
    * Open up Audacity (optional)
    * File/Open . . .
    * direct it to the newly created .mp3
    * Trim off any extra audio (I didn't want the opening credits, etc. on the .mp3)
    * File/Export as .mp3

  • Exporting to .mp4 file using QuickTime Pro

Rather than use the Movie to iPod preset in QuickTime pro, I would like to export an .avi file to a .mp4 file using Movie to MPEG-4. I would like the resulting file to be encoded using h.264 video and to be 640 X 480. I want one file that I can include as an enclosure in the rss feed for my podcast that can be downloaded and played in both iTunes and on an iPod. So far, I have been able to create a .mp4 file that plays in iTunes/QuickTime but not on an iPod.
Would someone with experience in this please tell me which settings to use in the MPEG-4 export settings dialogue so that I get a file that can be played on the iPod.
    The options are:
    File Format (I chose mp4)
    dropdown (I chose video)
    Video Format (I chose H.264)
Data Rate (I know it's important that this not be too high but don't know what to put.)
Optimize For (download is the only choice for this option)
Image Size (I chose 640X480 VGA)
Preserve Aspect Ratio checkbox (My original video is 720X480. I don't think I should check this. I want to change the pixel aspect ratio to square pixels.)
using dropdown box (Letterbox, crop, fit within size) (only active when Preserve Aspect ratio is checked)
Framerate (I chose 29.97, which is the frame rate on the original .avi file)
Keyframe ( I set this to every 15 frames)

Thanks. I was aware of that information. But still am stuck on using QuickTime Pro to come up with a usable .mp4 file for the iPod. I think I am using the right settings, but it's still not working. That's why I included a lot of detail about the specific options in my question. Hopefully, there's someone out there who has used QuickTime Pro for this.

  • How to download WWDC 2006 keynote using QuickTime Pro?

    Hi!
How can I download the WWDC keynote using quicktime pro?
    Matt

You can't...The video is streamed. One of the biggest draw backs to steaming a video is you can't download it..(draw back for end user)........ You can use a program to capture the video on the monitor.

  • Is There A Way Of Filtering Out Background Hiss Using Quicktime Pro ?

    Hello Every one!
I would like to remove hiss from my video recordings using Quicktime Pro. Is there a way to do this? I have Windows version.
    Thank you.

    You might try Audacity:
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
to work on the audio track (you'll have to export the track, work on it, and bring it back into the video). Audacity has a noise removal tool as well as EQ capabilities.
    Regards.

Is it possibile to transfer my downloaded QuickTime Pro software from my old computer to my new computer?  I don't want to buy it again if I can help it.

Open the QuickTime Player 7 app and look under the Edit menu / Preferences / Registration window to copy down the name, org and number.
Install the free player on the new machine and enter the registration info and test. If everything works as it should erase the registration info on the old machine.
