Streaming Audio Method?

Hi all, could anybody please tell me how to stream the audio
files e.g. wave files from an url to a shockwave?
Cos I have to link different audio files from the Internet
and then have to play it with controller buttons (like play, stop,
forward, backward, scroll bar) written in lingo.
I found the streaming method as SWA cast member in director
help, but it doesn't help cos it must be played as a sprite in
director, so I can't control it with the buttons and check it with
its timing.
Do anyone have any idea on it please?
Thanks in advance.
Linda

Hello Vivek,
I've run the example program on several PXI controllers (PXI-8105, PXIe-8106, & PXIe-8130) and all of them exhibit the same problem. Those controllers meet the minimum requirements defined in the examples documentation so I know that wasn't the issue.
I haven't had the chance, and probably won't have the chance, to try out the newer sound VI's and get it working fully. I briefly tried them a while back but I wasn't able to get it working correctly and not have stuttering sound. Time will most likely not allow me to experiment with them.

  • VLC doesn't save streaming audio to mp3 anymore

    I want to save streaming audio from the internet to my HDD in mp3 format while listening to it at the same time.  That worked fine when I did it with VLC, using the GUI.  To be specific, here are the settings that I used:
    VLC main menu: File>Open Network Stream>Open...Network>tick HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS and enter the URL (http://vruk.sc.llnwd.net:12265) >under Advanced Options tick Stream/Save and click on Settings (opens Stream Output window)>Outputs, tick Play locally, tick File, click on Browse and enter filename and location for the stream saving file, i.e. /home/robert/vlcout.mp3>Encapsulation method, tick on Raw>Transcoding options, tick on Audio codec and select mp3>Bitrate 128 kb/s, Channels 2>OK, OK, to start recording. Stop or Quit VLC, to stop recording.
    Two days ago I upgraded VLC from v.0.8.5-9 to v.0.8.6a-4 (which also upgraded ffmpeg from v.20060920-1 to v.20070131-1), and now the above procedure isn't working anymore.  The stream isn't playing anymore over my speakers while the encoding supposedly is going on, the vlcout.mp3 file is empty (0B), and VCL gives me the following error messages:
    stream_out_transcode error: cannot find encoder ((null))
    stream_out_transcode error: cannot create audio chain
    main error: cannot create packetizer output (mpga)
    It looks as though VLC is failing to encode the stream to mp3.  The VLC documentation (see http://www.videolan.org/streaming-features.html) in a table of "possible output formats for the transcoding module" says that for mp3 audio "you have to compile ffmpeg with libmp3lame support."  Has the new ffmpeg v.20070131-1 (in extra) been compiled without mp3 support?  If so, why?  Apparently, the older version I was using last week supported mp3.
    libmp3lame is installed on my system.  There is a very recent alternative ffmpeg-svn-8218-1 pkgbuild in AUR that enables libmp3lame in the configure section of the build but when I try to install the package built that way it conflicts with ffmpeg v.20070131-1, and to remove the official ffmpeg v.20070131-1 I'd first have to remove a slew of other packages that depend on it.
    Is it possible to remove VLC v.0.8.6a-4 and ffmpeg v.20070131-1 and go back to the older versions that worked for me?  There was talk of a bug in ffmpeg in this forum at the end of January; what about it?
    What should I do?

    I solved the problem for now by downgrading both vlc and ffmpeg to the earlier versions that I was using before.  Saving an audio stream in mp3 format is working again now.
    I believe there are problems with the current versions of both vlc and ffmpeg.
    1. vlc 0.8.6a doesn't seem to have ffmpeg enabled, i.e.
    $ vlc --list | grep ffmpeg
    VLC media player 0.8.6a Janus
    whereas with the older version I get
    $ vlc --list | grep ffmpeg
    VLC media player 0.8.5 Janus
      ffmpeg                FFmpeg audio/video decoder/encoder ((MS)MPEG4,SVQ1,H263,WMV,WMA)
      ffmpeg                FFmpeg chroma conversion
      ffmpeg                FFmpeg audio/video encoder
      ffmpeg                FFmpeg demuxer
      ffmpeg                FFmpeg video filter
      ffmpeg                FFmpeg crop padd filter
      ffmpeg                FFmpeg deinterlace video filter
    2. The current package ffmpeg v.20070131-1 in extra may not refer to various libraries correctly in its configure parameters.  E.g. in AUR there is an alternative pkgbuild ffmpeg-svn 8218-1 from 04-Mar-2007 in which the original configure parameters were replaced as follows:
    --enable-mp3lame --> --enable-libmp3lame
    --enable-vorbis --> --enable-libvorbis
    --enable-faac --> --enable-libfaac
    --enable-faad --> --enable-libfaad
    --enable-a52 --> --enable-liba52
    --enable-dts --> --enable-libdts
    Has the ffmpeg package in extra been compiled with mp3 support which is needed for the transcoding module of vlc to encode in mp3 format?  The alternative ffmpeg package in AUR conflicts with the ffmpeg package from extra, and I don't know how to tell the new vlc to use the alternative package instead of the one from extra.
    Someone ought to look into this.

  • Streaming audio from clients to server

    Hi folks,
    I am looking for a method in which I can stream audio from a device mac/win to the server which is connected to the good sound system over the local network.
    I have looked at pulseaudio and followed the directions in the wiki, but without any results
    This was a linux to linux setup. But it seems to only get worse when trying to stream from mac/win (found these pages)
    https://labitat.dk/wiki/Apple/Mac_OS_X#PulseAudio
    http://gleamynode.net/articles/2228/
    So what I am looking for here is either a thorough tutorial/directions or a plug n play solution.
    Any inputs, links or directions are greatly appreciated, since I have spent this entire weekend researching it, and failed horribly every time

    hmm its simple and it sort of works. Their is very little documentation as far as I can see.
    I start server by commiting rsd -D -v
    then stream some audio by cat sound.wav | rsdplay -s 127.0.0.1 --raw -r 44100 -c 2
    It sounds very sluggish, and it also tells me that Only 8 or 16 bit WAVE files supported.
    Also it looks like the last update was a OSS patch which was mentioned in the original thread over a year ago

  • Record Streaming Audio

    Is there anyway to record streaming audio directly on a Garageband track?

    The only method I can think of is to "shortcut" a connection between your headphones out and the line-in. But that doesn't yield very good results.
    However, you can record the streaming audio with software like AudioHijack or WireTap and then import the resulting audio file into GB. Just a couple of clicks more - or why do you want to record it directly into GB?

  • Is it possible to stream audio to mobiles over RTP

    I am researching streaming audio to mobile phones. To set the context - a scenario would be the sending of a wav file arising from text-to-speech conversion being streamed to a specific mobile phone engaged in the dialogue. Using the MMAPI I have created a Player and can play wav files using the Manager.createrPlayer("http://blah:8080/test.wav"). My understanding is that http based on tcp is not suitable for streaming. Far better to use RTP over UDP. I have done this for desktop clients. However, my question is can i use the RTP protocol to stream wav files to mobile devices. I think the answer is no since it is not a supported protocol as identified by the Manager.getSupportedProtocols("audio/x-wav") method. The supported protocols returned are http and capture. Neither does it work in my dummy test. I get the following error if i try to create the player with an rtp protocol spec in the media locator, as in Manager.createPlayer("rtp://192.9.206.164:49150/audio");:
    javax.microedition.media.MediaException: Cannot create a DataSource for: rtp://192.9.206.164:49150/audio
         at javax.microedition.media.Manager.createDataSource(+92)
         at javax.microedition.media.Manager.createPlayer(+93)
         at MobileClient$ConnectionManager.run(+110)
    Comments most welcome please.

    that protocol is not requiered to be implemented by Sun's j2me specification. So it's up to the vendor whether he implements it or not. My expierence shows, that most vendors just implement the minimum requierements and don't spend any more dollar on anything not requiered.
    Since not even a socket connection is requiered to be implemented, you not even get the chance to implement an own 'transmission' protocol that might fit your needs.
    So you're only chance will be if a vendor decides to implement any device specific api.

  • Unable to Stream Audio

    I'm unable to stream audio from a popular radio station. My old Win XP and Vista systems had no trouble. The radio station's site indicates that Windows Media Player is necessary. I'm hesitant to install anything having to do with Microsoft and/or Windows. What do I need to know? What are the pros/cons of installing Windows Media Player? Is there an Apple-approved version of WMP? Are there any other options available to me?

    Hi iTunesKruzr
    Some radio stations will play in Safari and other OS X browsers and some will not without a wmp?
    Download and install Flip4Mac first to see if that doesn't let you listen to you favorite station?

  • Problem with streaming audio

    I wasn't sure if this is a problem with Safari, iTunes, or OS X, so rather than post the question in all three of those forums I decided to post the question here.
    I can't seem to get streaming audio to open and play when I click on their appropriate links in Safari. I tried several different links through a few different sites, but when I click on a "Play" or "Listen Now" link for an MP3 stream, a Safari download window opens and that's it -- no stream.
    I solved the problem by copying the link, going to iTunes, and choosing "Open Stream" from the "Advanced" menu, and the stream played fine, but I would hate to have to do that every time I want to sample an audio stream.
    Anyone know why it wouldn't work when I clicked on the direct link?
    Thanks.

    Nevermind. Noob figured out what he was doing wrong.
    See Safari "Preferences", "Open 'safe' files after downloading".

  • I recently purchased an Onkyo stereo receiver with a wireless USB adapter, UWF-1, and want to stream audio from my MacBook Pro through my stereo system. The receiver tells me it is connected to my wireless LAN, but I cannot get music to play?

    New to the community here, thanks for your patience.  I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver with the UWF-1 USB adapter with the intent to stream audio from my MacBook Pro to the stereo. I have gone through the setup instructions for the adapter and the receiver gives me a message saying that it is connected to the password protected network, but that is as far as I can get.
    I have gone into iTunes and clicked on the "Open Stream" option, but I just get a pop up box labeled "URL" that is empty. I have Home Sharing turned on and File Sharing turned on, but I am not seeing the receiver in my Finder window or as a iTunes device.
    I would appreciate any and all advice and assistance.
    Thanks so much.

    So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
    Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
    Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • Facebook and streaming audio issues

    I like using Facebook and stream audio from my favorite radio stations!  However, I am running into adobe flash upgrade issues!!!!  I can bring up Facebook but I can't run certain programs within it.  I can bring up my favorite radio stations but won't let me stream audio!!!!  Any solutions?

    What exactly are your issues?
    I had an issue where every image found on the blog template was showing up instead of the actual image that represented the blog post. My fix was to make sure of the following:
    1. Blog image needs to be small in file size. Many bloggers post images that came straight off their camera and I found that the share tools will grab the most accessbile and light-weight files first. If the image is too big then it won't grab it at all. The share tool grabs the smallest and fastest loading, top-most in the code image first, which means the images found on the template of the blog.
    This issue occurs at WordPress too, so it is not restricted to BC but rather the tools provided to share.
    2. Try to avoid putting the image inbetween <p></p>'s, when I pulled mine out of the the paragraph format, they were found quicker.
    3. Avoid having the image lead off the blog post list before the bodypreview, if you can at all just show the image on within post detail page if you can. I know that having an image in the list helps, but then just put the whole blog in the list, like WP does. Problem here is that most share tools on the list have a problem diciphering what to share, so it shares the whole page, giving everthing a share count. WP does this better. They isolate the independent listings and provide isolated share tools for each list.
    Wait a week and the technology will change again.
    Good news is that the element that Facebook offers to share a page on the web will be featuring the option to upload an image to accompanying the sharing of the post. You can see this happening at Facebook already when you drop in the link of the post into a news feed.
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

    how can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

    It's exactly as I stated. Whenever I try to drag these kinds of loops (ESX24 / software instrument loops? the ones marked in green with the white music note next to them) from the loop browser into the timeline a message comes up saying Audio Not Found for that loop.  And a new track is created automatically when loops are dragged into the timeline, so I'm not creating some other random / synth instrument track so I'm not sure  what the deal is... But perhaps I'll try creating a software instrument track first and then drag the loop into that track and see what happens - maybe there's something with the default settings that automatically creates audio tracks whenever loops are imported?

    I want to be able to use airplay to stream audio to another iOS device, and then use that audio stream to be used when recording video instead of the built in microphone / microphone input. Is this possible?

    A third-party app probably cannot obtain a stream from another app. To the best of my knowledge, such a capability is not provided in the software development kit, apps being "sandboxed" from each other and so allowed to communicate only in very specific and limited ways.
    I'm not completely sure what you mean by "limitations on video capture". An iPhone, to the best of my knowledge, can natively record video only through it's built-in camera, and audio while doing video recording only through the built-in microphone or mic/headphone jack. There might be a video recording app that would allow audio input from an external device connected to the dock connector, but I'm not sure.

  • How can I stream audio from Apple TV 2 to Airport Express speakers.

    how can I stream audio from Apple TV 2 to Airport Express speakers.
    I have LCD projector on one wall and connected ATV to it via HDMI.
    Speakers on the other wall and connected to APXpress.

    To be honest the times we've wanted to have music from more than one set of speakers, I've usually used my mac's iTunes library and controlled it either from the mac or from my phone, since they're not really the times we have any TV on anyway. I've tested AirTunes from the Apple TV but can't recall whether it worked with content from a streaming library.
    Now I've got something to do.

  • Streaming audio data won't stop unless I turn off the phone for 5 minutes.

    I have been testing the Curve 8330 regarding streaming audio from an icecast server. The address of the station is http://www.AirProgressive.org, click on "listen". (I have already run this by the icecast experts and they say it is a Blackberry "bug")
    BLACKBERRY USERS! PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE STREAM (dataflow) DOES NOT STOP WHEN YOU CLICK "STOP" ON THE MEDIA PLAYER! (and will continue for as long as you leave it on, and even if you turn off your BB for less than 5 Minutes.) I'm not sure if you are charged for these streams, but it seems that the battery is depleted rapidly if this continues without aborting it. See details of my testing below:

    So, to stop the streaming server from communicating with the Blackberry handset, you must either turn it off or disable mobile network for at least 5 minutes.
    It appears that the handset continues to transfer data (and therefore incur charges, if the user does not have an unlimited data plan) if the handset is not turned off or mobile network disabled for at least five minutes. It also runs down the battery much faster because the radio transmitter is actively being used, even if the user is not listening to the stream.
    The Blackberry network has intervening servers that continue to receive data from the streaming server even if the handset is off. This behavior likely has utility to deal with the realities of the cellphone network, to allow the stream to be transferred from one cell to another, and deal with the possibility that the handset may be out of range for up to 5 minutes without "interruption." However, it is hard to turn off the stream.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. Is there a way to stop this sort of behavior using a configuration setting or something? It seems particularly stupid to start a new stream connection each time a STOP/START cycle is completed, allowing the old connections to continue streaming data (even if the data does not make it to the handset).
    2. IS IT TRUE that the user will be "charged" for the data streams that are not disconnected?
    3. Is there a way for a developer to send a signal to the intervening cellphone network to discontinue the orphan streams?
    THANKS!!

    No, I'm using something like this :
    to start...
                       channel = new SoundChannel();
                                            soundPlay = new Sound();
                                            urlReq=new URLRequest;
                                            urlReq.url=mylUrl;  // url of radio mp3
                                            soundPlay.load(urlReq);
                       channel = soundPlay.play();
    to stop it...
                          channel.stop();
                          channel=null;
                          try{soundPlay.close();} catch (e:Error) {} // error or not, the sream won't stop.
    Any idea ? Did you try with a NetStream object ?
