Streaming audio to Airport Express via AirPlay?

I have wired HDMI sending throughout my house, all my media equipment is in my lounge, Apple TV 2, PS3 and Cable TV, my audio is analogue for all but ATV2 which I just bought not realizing that there is digital audio only, d'oh!
Sadly my projector upstairs where I want to watch my media has zero audio capabilities, video is great, audio for ATV2 is non existent.
Can ATV2 stream audio to Airport Express? Every other iDevice I have can so I'm sure the hardware is capable, the old ATV could do this but I suspect Apple would like me to purchase an ATV2 for each room but i dont want to drop another £101 for hardware I already have.
Thanks

Aw, that's what I thought, thank you for confirming Rudegar. Back to the drawing board..

  • Will there be a possibility to stream music from iMac safari to airport express via airplay - from youtube for example?

hi, i want to stream music from my imac to my airport express station via airplay. but not only with itunes, but also from safari (youtube) or other programs like games etc.
is there - or will there be - a way?
    thx

Thank you for the answer, but airfoil is pay-software. on ipad and iphone there´s airplay for allmost every application - without extra payment.
i wonder, why apple provides airplay only for mobile-devices.

  • Problems streaming music to Airport Express via Airtunes in Mountain Lion

Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have been encountering some strange behavior regarding my ability to stream music to speakers connected to my network via Airport Expresses. Initially, the speakers appear in iTunes, and I can select them and stream music to them perfectly. Eventually, however, they no longer stream music and appear unselected in iTunes. When I try to select them again, I cannot. After clicking on them, they appear connected for a few milliseconds before disconnecting again. I have found that restarting my computer resolves this problem.
I believe this is a Mountain Lion issue because, even when I can no longer select the speakers, I can still stream music to these speakers from both my iPhone and my iPad.
I also have a set of Airplay enabled speakers (Zeppelin Air) and I can stream to these speakers even when the Airport Express ones are not functioning. I interpret this to mean that my computer, iTunes, and my router are all capable of streaming music.
I had hoped that iTunes 11 would fix this issue, but it hasn't. I have found posts to simiar problems on these forums, but they often involve receiving various error messages from iTunes. I never receive any error messages, streaming to the speakers just stops and cannot be restarted. Streaming worked perfectly in Snow Leopard and for the brief time I had Lion. I find needing to restart my computer repeatedly to be a rather inelegant solution to this problem. Any insight is appreciated.

What's also strange, is that if I log onto another user on the same computer, the streaming works fine. That means that the problem lies within my user account, doesn't it?
Are there any preference files that I can safely delete within my user library to reset any preferences that are ****** up?
Also, I don't know if it might have something to do with it, but I'm running Little Snitch. Don't see that there are any rules I've set up that might interfere with AirTunes, though!

  • Streaming audio to airport express

With iTunes there is an option to send your audio to the Airport Express router. Is there a way or app to send audio (master output) from Logic to the Airport Epress? This would be very usefull to listen to my mixes on my home stereo without using long cables...

Yes, there is. I use Airfoil along with Airport Express for this purpose.
You can download the program here: http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
The only thing is that this program cost a few bucks, but that is a one-time charge, if I am correct. Works fairly good I must say. Sometimes I get a few drop-outs, but that is rare.
You can stream any audio source through AE with this program too.

  • Movies audio using airport express via i-tunes

    Hi guys
Have no trouble at all listening to music through air tunes using separate speakers, however when i go to watch a movie or watch a podcast using i-tunes no sound can be heard from the external speakers connected via my airport express? Is this me or is it just the way it is?
    Cheers
    Nick

ok, after some reseaerch it seams that there is a lag between video and audio unless you use the supplied airfoil video player. You can drag video files in to airfoil video but not movies purchased from i-tunes.....happy to be proven wrong on that one mind!
Anyway, a nice little app IMO!

  • Stream audio to airport express from motorola wr850g xp pro sp2

I picked up a used airport express in hopes of streaming music from itunes. I installed the airport express utility and it seems to be geared towards setting up a base station. The software complains that windows is not setup to control my wireless network. I plugged the AX directly into my router (motorola wr850g) and it connected and began kicking out a signal (I logged in via my ipod touch). So I know the AX works but I'm curious how difficult it is to set this up with my router. I have access to my router now and access to the AX via the utility when connected via cat5. I don't need AX to repeat the signal if that is any help. Thanks for help.

Hello repke95. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
What you want to do is reconfigure the 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to "join an existing wireless network."
    Here's the basic steps ...
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, use the AirPort Admin Utility to check these settings:
    AirPort tab
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    o Wireless Network: <select the existing Motorola's wireless network>
    Music tab
o Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
o Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    o iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    o iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Streaming AirTunes to Airport Express via Extreme

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I've read thru multiple threads about this issue and done just about everything indicated with no luck. Used Airport Extreme for a wireless network with direct WAN connect to DSL and LAN to printer, wireless to the iMac and can connect fine with my PC notebook via the wireless network. I've tried to add Airport Express simply to stream AirTunes to the stereo system in the next room, but keep getting flashing amber on the Express. I've used soft, hard and factory resets, started over using Airport Utility to add the Express to the existing network, using the tech article cited in one of the streams. To avoid interference even tried setting it up plugged in next to the Airport Extreme. After factory reset the iMac can find the Express but when I try to add it to the existing network set up on the extreme it no longer finds it and the light starts flashing amber again. What am I missing here?

  • Audiostreaming over Airport Express via Ethernet

So far, streaming audio over Airport Express in my large house has been a bit unstable - the audio stream often gets interrupted.
Now I have been thinking of using a wired Ethernet network instead of wireless transmission.
My question: The Airport Express has an Ethernet port. Is it possible to access the Airport Express wired to an Ethernet network and use it to listen to streamed audio?
Question two: And still use its wireless functionality to access the Internet?
What about the Airport Extreme in this regard?

My question: The Airport Express has an Ethernet port. Is it possible to access the Airport Express wired to an Ethernet network and use it to listen to streamed audio?
    Yes.
Question two: And still use its wireless functionality to access the Internet?
Yes, you can configure the AirPort Express for a roaming network.
What about the Airport Extreme in this regard?
Yes, you can use an AirPort Extreme in a roaming network configuration; no, you cannot use it for streaming.

  • Airport Express for Airplay Audio Stream while still using iPhone's 3G/4G Internet?

I'd like to use an Airport Express to stream music from my iphone via Airplay (AMP > Analog RCA's > Minijack Splitter > Airport Express). Here's the rub: I wont have an internet connection where this setup is located at.
Basic networking would make it impossible to get online with thise becaue the iphone would be looking at the Airport as the default gate.
I understand that you can setup the network on your phone to be a static IP, subnet, and leave the default gateway blank. This should allow the phone to see the Airport/Airplay and still utilize the 3G/LTE of the AT&T service. Can anyone confirm this?  UPDATED, THIS PIECE WORKS LIKE A CHARM.
If that works, that's great, I could stop there, but I'd like to take it a step further to make it easier to use by someone other than a network engineer. Can you set the DHCP server on the Express to give out a Blank default gateway, or will you need to configure the network on each device you connect to it?
The last piece isn't a deal killer for me, but it would make it super easy to use for others.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Ryan

Hello TKSF78. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I want to use my Airport Express to stream my music to my stereo so I can listen to music while still using the WIFI connection for internet.
In order to do both simultaneously, you just need to reconfigure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to join the wireless network created by the other router.
The following is the basic settings to do so:
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Wireless Network Name: <enter the Network Name or SSID of the wireless network that you want your AX to join>
o Wireless Security: <select the appropriate security type>
o Wireless Password: <enter the appropriate wireless security password>
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)

  • HT4437 How to stream audio from a Safari web site to Airport Express using Airplay?

I'm able to stream audio from iTunes to my Airport Express using Airplay, but I can't stream audio from SoundCloud.com or any other system audio (not in iTunes) to the Airport Express. It is my understanding that AirFoil can do the trick but I do not want to spend 25$ if there is another way to do it.
    Thanks in advance.

I have played around and it's all fixed (not sure what I did and I don't think it was working all along), Tgara, you're right the icon colour has changed to orange for music (but still blue for you tube).

    Good you got it sorted!
I was wrong about one thing.   Regardless of how I connect (e.g., wifi or Bluetooth), the Airplay icon in an Apple App turns orange when connected to a device, not blue as I mentioned above.  This is probably why you see blue in the Youtube app.
OK, I am retracting all my posts about the airplay icon and it's color scheme.
Seems as if the airplay icon on the music app is orange, but the airplay icon on the podcast app is blue. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to these color schemes or their significance, so I am abandoning all further speculation.

  • Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.

Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.  TP-link wired/wireless router.  Ultimate goal is to send music from iTunes on PC to wireless router, then to airport, then to reciever.  The amber light is blinking.  Thanks in advance for the help!

If I'm understanding right your need and your computer has wired access to your network/router, all you have to do is give your AX wireless or wired access to your network too.
Wired should be easier.  Just use a network cable to connect to the router.  Power up the AX and look for it on AirPort Utility, do so without changing any of your computer settings.  If it's visible, then on iTunes your AX should be visible on the AirPlay icon at the bottom-right corner.
If you want to connect your AX to your router wirelessly I would suggest to reset your AX settings by pressing and holding for a few secs the reset button next to all the ports.  Once it is reset, using your computer try to look for the wireless network it'll be creating, it should be something like Apple Network 4341eb.  Join that network and, using the AirPort Utility, configure your AX as a network client.  Go to Wireless > Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network.
Select your router wireless network from the drop-down menu, select the appropriate security and type in your password.  Click update.
It'll restart and automatically join your network.  Have your computer join back your router network and, again, in iTunes bottom right you should be able to see the AX speakers.
Let me know if this worked.

  • Can't get itunes to connect to airport express via air tunes

    Hi,
I just bought and installed an airport express (for windows 7) everything is now connected but i can't get itunes to recognize my airport express via air tunes. I can see the multiple speakers in itunes, but when i click on it to connect to airport it just comes up with connecting, loads for about a minute then minimizes without connecting.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can i get this to work?

You've probaby solved this by now, but if not... When upgrading itunes on a Vista or Windows 7 machine with Windows Firewall running for some reason Bonjour can't get through the firewall and thus Airplay does not work. Not good when all your Hi-fi's are connected via airport express!
I found to resolve the issue you have to install an older version of Bonjour. It won't work if you try to do this straight from Apple.  So try this...
    1. Firstly install and older version of itunes from the web (say version 10.1) Try www.oldapps.com
    2. Then find the Bonjour file in program files
    3. Cut and paste it to your desktop with its contents
    4. Uninstall itunes and Bonjour via your control panel (the desktop file of Bonjour you moved will still be there).
    5. Install your new version of itunes, say version 10.5, from the apple website.
    6. Before opening it go to program files and cut the (newly installed) Bonjour file and paste it somewhere different to the desktop (you can't just delete it). It does not matter where you won't be needing it.
    7. Now Cut and paste the old version of Bonjour you stuck on the desktop in Program files in place of the one you just moved.
    8. Hey presto, Airplay, Windows firewall and your Airport Express' should all get on again.
    Hope this works...

  • Can I share internet from a airport express via the ethernet port

I have a older airport express that I am trying to you to share the internet with a Marantz AV receiver. I used to be able to share the internet to a PS2 a few years back.
I was able to set up another network parallel to my normal wireless network with an older moonbase style airport extreme using WDS.
I am unsure if this is the limitation that apple has introduced to the unit, or it is a Telstra firewall issue.
Is it possible using a combination of Airport Etremes or expresses to share the internet to a wired unit?

I have a new airport extreme that I use all the time. I was using the older airport express for airplay.
The older airport extreme I just pulled down from the cupboard trying to get the AVR connected.
Since posting I have able to use the Airport extreme to connect the AVR via the ethernet port.
Still curious why I cannot connect using the airport express.
Interestingly the older airport extreme pushed the new airport extreme into WDS mode. Tried to hook up the express and it did not work.

  • Can I connect Tower w/o wireless card into my Airport Express via ethernet for internet?

Greetings. I have an airport extreme sending wireless internet signal all over the house. I have a music studio computer Intel Xeon that has no wireless card in a seperate room. Am I able to configure an older Airport Express 802.11g that is connected wirelessly to the Extreme signal to connect to internet signal to my tower via the ethernet connection on the Airport Express?... i.e., connect the ethernet cable from my tower to the ethernet port on the Express to access internet signal? If so do I have to set up the Express for a certain kind of configuration that is different than, say, if I were using the airport express for airplay or a printer?
Thank you for your help. Jeff

Am I able to configure an older Airport Express 802.11g that is connected wirelessly to the Extreme signal
Unfortunately, the older AirPort Express model that you have does not have this type of capabiility.....an "n" version of the AirPort Express would be able to do what you want.
Look for a Model A1264 or Model A1392.  The A1392 is the newer version, but the A1264 would do fine.
Here I assume that you have an 802.11"n" version of the AirPort Extreme.

  • Streaming Itunes to Airport Express

I am able to stream itunes on Airport Express while also using my computer to access the internet via an Airport Extreme Network. I am also able to do the same at a vacation home which uses a Linksys network. However, when using the office network (small private office) with secured wireless access, which I have he access to, the itunes will only work on the wireless network if selected network is chosen on the banner bar at top of the desktop. The system sees both wireless networks (the Airport Express & the office wireless network). I was actually surprised that I could stream music to the express and still maintain a separate connection for internet simulteanously. I would like to be able to have the sam capability for the office as I do at home and the vacation home, any advice??

you can only stream music to an airport express if you have selected that network from your list under the airport icon at the top of your screen... so if you have selected your itunes network then you obviously can't also be part of another wireless network to use the internet. The only way to do this is to make your itunes network a part of the network which is used to access the web. Airport express has profiles which enable you to setup multiple settings so when you take your airport into the office, reconfigure the airport using airport admin and have it 'join' your office network and make sure you give it the same network name as your office one. Then from your airport network list select the name and you will be able to both listen to music and surf.
