  • Can no longer simultaneously stream an mp3 in Safari when using fast user switching option.

After updating to ios 5, I can no longer stream an mp3 in Safari when I use the fast user switching option.  For instance, if you are listening to streaming content in a Safari tab and want to reference another app as soon as you switch from the Safari stream pauses.
This was not the case with previous versions of ios.  Any ideas on a work around to restore this functionality to keep Safarr streaming content in the background?

User switching problems is the very first thing I noticed with SL. I have a host of other problems with SL but this is one of the most frustrating. The user switching did not work on 10.6 very well either but was wicked fast in 10.5.x
Apple rewrote the Kernel so this type of thing is expected, still the test crew missed this very noticable problem. Hopefully 10.6.2 has a fix.

  • How to stream content from Mac or Ipad to ATV  Gen 1

I have an unlocked ATV Gen 1 ( just bought 2nd hand ) and I want to stream content from either my MacBookAir or my ( Jailbroken ) Ipad 2 to the ATV which is connected to my nice big TV.
I can view all the integral stuff in ATV and also view/listen to movies/music in Itunes.
I really want to view BBC TV which is streaming on my MBA or Ipad onto the ATV.
    How can I achieve this?
I've dabbled with Airshare ( a Cydia app ) on the Ipad but that doesn't seem to work.
Of course, I can run a HDMI cable directly from the MBA/Ipad to the ordinary TV and throw away the ATV but I want to do it wirelessly.
Surely this is achievable with ATV?
    Thx,

Mr Churchill, I assume that you are talking about "live broadcasts" when  you assert that I can't stream 'anything'?
Of course, I can 'stream' videos/music/podcasts/photos which are in my Itunes library of any of my devices to the ATV .
I'm pretty sure that I have read postings where content displayed on an IOS device can be mirrored in Audio/VDO to the ATV.
If this only realates to content contained within ITunes then confirmation will be regarded as the correct answer ( if not the one I wanted ).
    Can someone pls assist

  • Streaming content to ATV from 2nd iTunes account

My AppleTV is synched with my iTunes account. However, my daughter also has an iTunes account on our Mac, and she wants to be able to stream her music and movies over the AppleTV. Can't figure out how to do this from the AppleTV documentation. Can someone please offer detailed help/instructions? Many thanks.

Yes -- I know that one can only stream from the second account. I did some poking around on the iTunes Help system and found the excerpt included below. Solved the problem, and I can now stream my daughter's content via our AppleTV (the device remains synched to my iTunes account). Start at the line that reads "To set up your Apple TV for streaming" for the solution.
Playing your iTunes library on your TV
If you have an Apple TV, you can stream items (songs, movies, TV shows, and more) from your iTunes library to your TV. You can also sync your Apple TV with your iTunes library so that your iTunes content is automatically loaded onto your Apple TV.
Syncing your Apple TV with iTunes
If your Apple TV is synced with an iTunes library, it is already set up for streaming. You can also stream items from an iTunes library that isn't synced with your Apple TV. You can stream from up to five iTunes libraries, plus the library the Apple TV is synced with.
To set up your Apple TV for streaming:
Make sure the computer you want to stream from is turned on, and iTunes is open.
Go to iTunes > Preferences, choose Apple TV, and make sure “Look for Apple TVs” is selected.
On your Apple TV, choose Settings > Computers > “Add Shared iTunes Library,” and then note the passcode displayed.
In iTunes, select the Apple TV with “Click to set up” next to it, and enter the passcode.
While content is being streamed, the computer must remain on (not in Sleep mode) and iTunes must remain open. If you stream content while Apple TV is syncing, the sync pauses until streaming stops.

  • Playing streaming content

    Hello, from Holland,
Since I updated iMac system to MacOS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) I am not be able to play streaming content anymore. When I double-click the "Keynote from Steve Jobs" on the Apple-site, all I get is a black screen with in the middle some buttons to press and the message "Loading"' or "Looking for connection". That all I get.
Apperently the Quicktime player can't find the "streaming content.
Please tell me what's wrong and how to fix it.
    Thank you for the assistance.
    daans

got to adobes web site and get the latest flash player update.
If you did an easy install of SL (as opposed to a custom), you may not have QT7 installed.
Go back and install that, too.
Then go get Perian, and install it.
That should cover most every type of streaming media you will run across.

  • Stream content from iTunes to AppleTV and Airport Express

I have an Apple TV in family room which is wirelessly connected to my home network. I also have a PC connected via Ethernet to my network. All my music is stored on an external drive connected to my PC (I don’t store any media on the ATV, as my music is well over 400GB). This setup works great, and allows me to stream content from the external drive to my ATV which is connected to a stereo.
Next, I purchased an Airport Express, connected it to a second stereo in my basement. After spending 3 hours trying to get it connected to my network, (I had to disable all wireless encryption, and use MAC filtering to keep network secure), I am now able to stream media from iTunes on the PC, to the stereo connected to the Airport Express.
What I would like to do now, is be able to select a song from the Apple TV (using ATV remote, or iPhone Remote), and have it play in both places. Since the media itself is coming from iTunes running on the PC with the external drive, and it gets streamed from there to Apple TV, how can I also stream the same content to the Airport Express?
The folks at the Apple store say this is a feature, but no one seems to know how to make it work. I have also read hundreds of posts online, and some say you can do this, others say you cannot. All of those who say it is not possible, state you cannot stream from ATV to AE, but in my case, the media is not on the ATV, it is on the PC, and I just want to use ATV to select the song. From there, it would be iTunes that would send the content to both the ATV and the AE.
Can someone help myself and many others put this question to rest - can it be done, or not?

Thanks for the reply. Just as you indicated, I figured out how to use iPhone remote to tell iTunes on PC to output to Express, Apple TV and PC, and that works great - I can even turn on/off any of the speakers from the iPhone - this is so COOL!
While you answered the question, I am curious about the architecture of all this...If the media is actually on the PC and is controlled by iTunes, isn't the Apple TV doing the same thing as the iPhone Remote - just telling iTunes what to play, and iTunes sends the content to whatever speakers are defined? Keeping that thought, if you can control iTunes via iPhone Remote, and the content will play on any speakers you select, then it would make sense that you could do the same thing with the Apple TV menu - tell iTunes what to play, and let iTunes send to whatever speakers you have selected.

  • No longer able to stream content

Since Snow Leopard and/or iTunes 9 I seem to have lost the ability to stream TV through my Apple TV. Syncing still works, and synced content plays fine, but if I try and stream a TV show, then the scrubber briefly appears, fails to advance at all, and then just disappears, leaving the screen to go blank.
I've done all the stuff I'm meant to do I think - factory restored the Apple TV, reinstalled iTunes, etc etc. I cannot believe how much extra care and attention this product seems to require...

    Refer to this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1453
Yes, I know nothing's changed in your router's setup. But you've tried everything else, right?
The router's firewall must allow communication to the appropriate ports on the Apple TV. I had lots of problems with a new ATV; once I added UDP 5353 in the router for the Apple TV (for which I have assigned an IP rather than have it dynamically assigned), the problems have completely vanished.

  • I can't seem to stream music from my MBP to ATV

    I have a late 2009 MBP (10.6.8) and a brand new Apple TV (3rd Gen, 6.0.2).
When I am using the ATV interface, I can control and play music/ content from my MBP without incident. However, when I am using my MBP, it cannot connect and I get an error message: "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”. The network connection timed out."
ATV plays other content fine, the Wi-Fi connection seems to be working at at full stregnth (~10Mb). I have tried switching the firewall on/off and restarting iTunes as well as the router, to no avail.
    Any thoughts?

Streaming from the computer using the ATV interface utilizes HomeSharing, not AirPlay.
Is AirPlay even supported on that generation Mac running that old of a version of OSX?  I honestly do not know.  A better place to seek assistance would be the appropriate Mac forum.  The issue is not with the ATV but with the Mac.

  • Streaming movie plays perfectly on MAC but not on PC, why?

I have created a streaming movie and put it online. I have installed the latest version of Quicktimne for PC. The movie streams and plays perfectly on my Mac however it does not stream on my PC. It plays on the PC when it has fully downloaded (in the browser using quicktime) but the sound quality is poor - I can hear lots of cackles.
Can anyone help with this please?
    Thanks
    Alex

In addition to Neds suggestions, empty the Safari cache (which should be empty after a clean install).
Goto the Safari Get Info screen (in Finder or in Dock if you have Safari there), click the triangle on languages, and disable those you don't use.
My Safari response time was significantly slowed after the 10.4.5 update, and using the combo updater took care of that. The 10.4.6 combo update is located here.

  • Video does not play in safari with QT7.3 update

just as last time quicktime was updated, this version does the same thing. after updating to QT7.3 videos no longer play in safari. i went to the apple trailers site, i get the sound but no video. last time the solution i found was to remove the quicktime plugin from the plugin folder in the library folder. i did that same thing this time, and it still does not work.
any help on this one? using a powerbook g-3 pismo, with os 10.4
    thanks

Hi tfu47 and welcome to the forums!
No such problems here - which I know doesn't help you!
Did you close all applications before installing the update? Did you restart as instructed? Did you repair permissions?
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Cannot View Streaming Content

Last week I updated to iTunes 7.0 and Quicktime 7.1.3 before trying to view "It's Showtime." The upgrade completed without incident. When I tried to view the event, the QuickTime player opened and was stuck on "Connecting..." forever. I can successfully listen to purchased music, podcasts, and play various downloaded media in IE and Firefox. The problem is playing streaming content kicked off by JavaScript, <OBJECT>, or <EMBED>.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall without success. I tried repairing the installation too. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Mark

There must be a problem or conflict with another program on this machine because I ran the update on another machine configured similarly and it plays streamed material just fine. I'm going to download just QuickTime and install it.

Adobe Flash won't play while in Safari. It will in Firefox. How did I get Flash to play in Safari?

    Make sure plugins are enabled.
Press Command , (comma) to open Safari Preferences then select the Security tab.
Make sure:   Allow all other plug-ins   is selected.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that can prevent Flash content from loading.

  • How do I stream content from my Lucid3 to the TV?

I was told that streaming from my phone is as easy as plug-n-play, no luck so far. Any help?

I have an LG G2. I also have a Samsung Smart TV that supports DLNA. I can run a program like iMediaShare from the Playstore, and I can send video and pictures from my phone to the TV. I can also load this program onto an HP Touchpad running Android and do the same.
My TV also has a YouTube app which will let me pair with other wireless devices like my phone or my HP Touchpad, and select and play YouTube videos to watch on my TV.
With KitKat, your phone and my phone should have Miracast (Settings | Share and connect) which you can enable. My TV is not Miracast ready (I would have to purchase a dongle that would attach to an HDMI port on the side or back of the TV). Then I guess, I could stream content (compatible with Miracast) to the TV. If your TV already has it, you wouldn't need a dongle... but I don't think you'd be able to stream any content with Miracast. You'd have to research it more.
There may be other options depending on your TV. Hopefully, this will get you started.

  • Is it possible to stream content from an iPhone directly to AppleTV

Is it possible to stream content from an iPhone directly to AppleTV.  I can get content from my computer to the AppleTV but can not get infromation from the iPhone to the AppleTV.  The iPhone will control the AppleTV but it only controls the information from the computer to the AppleTV.  Is it necessary to have your computer turned on when streaming information from an iPhone to the AppleTV.

Yes, you can stream from an iPhone to ATV using airplay. You need to turn wifi on and make sure both are on the same network. The content needs to be on the phone if it's from your library. Some apps have airplay capability, but not all as each developer has to enable it. Same with websites.
