Streaming From A Desktop

I've been searching for an answer online, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
I have Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2 installed and running, using a USB web cam as a source.
Simply put, is it possible to stream from a local desktop machine? Every tutorial refers to downloading an XML config file, allowing you to stream to a service such as justin.tv.  But that's now what I want to do!
In the past I used a Microsoft utility to stream video and audio from my desktop.  Does Flash Media Live Encoder allow you to do this?  Do I need to run a web server like IIS?  And why can't I find a version of Flash Media Server to download?
I can create an HTML page with the code to display the video stream, using this utility:
http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp/#
But I'm still missing how to setup and configure a server, of some sort.
Thank you.

    Apple TV 2 all of a sudden has trouble streaming.  I stream from my desktop computer's iTunes for movies, and tonight it started stopping randomly mid movie and saying it wasn't connected.  Any ideas?  Router?  ATV dying?
    It just says not connected, and as soon as it bails to menu, it connects again and will play for another minute before doing the same thing all over again.

    Hello David,
    Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like your Apple TV is having trouble streaming videos from iTunes on your computer. This symptom could have a variety of causes, and I'd suggest the following initial troubleshooting steps.
    In addition to restarting your devices (Apple TV, computer, router), try the tips in this article, starting with "Check your home network:"

  • Why do I have all the photos streamed from my desktop library in a photostream album in my desktop library as well

    I've just noticed that all the photos that are in my main iPhoto library are now also in the Photo Stream album. Have they been streamed to my devices and then streamed back? Or does iPhoto set up a separate album for photos to be streamed?

    Because you have this checked in iPhoto's Photo Stream preferences:
    Uncheck that checkbox. Go into your Photo Stream in iPhoto, select the photos you don't want on your mobile devices, do a Control (right) - click and  select Delete from Photo Stream from the contextual menu:

  • Router speed for streaming from NAS to Windows to Hi-Fi

    I've been advised to post this here rather than the iTunes for Windows forum it's turned into an Airplay question.
    I have just purchased a Windows 8.1 tablet and one of the main things I want to use it for is to stream music from a NAS to my Airplay enabled Hi-Fi. I haven't got a NAS yet, but have tried pointing it to the iTunes library files and media on my desktop PC. This seems to work once I relocate the files, but when I play them, they play ok through the tablet, but when I switch it to play to my Hi-Fi, it breaks up every few seconds.
    I'm wondering if this is because my router is not up to the job or streaming from my desktop to my tablet and then from the tablet to my Hi-Fi?
    Wired connection is 100 Mbps, Wireless 54Mbps.

    Thanks
    I know it’s difficult to do straight comparisons, and they have different OS, but  hardware wise this tablet would seem to stack up well against the latest iPads & iPhones, and even better compared to the iOS devices that were released when Airplay was launched. As this protocol is now widely used for HD Video, I would have thought most modern hardware could cope with music.
    There are some similar problems discussed in this thread, so I’ll give them a go when I get home:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2703198?start=75&tstart=0
    These are mostly router tweaks though, I think it’s more to do with the configuration of the tablet and my Laptop & PC seem to be working fine with Airplay.

  • No streaming from itunes?

    I have iTunes 10.7 on a new 64-bit HP Pavilion desktop running Windows 8 x64. I simply want to stream itunes music to my 3rd-gen Apple TV.
    Apple TV sees the network, but the network doesn't see the Apple TV. On the Apple TV I can see and play the contents of my iTunes library, but it is independent of what tracks iTunes is playing on my desktop. I want to stream from the desktop, so that the same thing is playing everywhere, and so that I don't have to have the TV on in order to do so.
    Prior to the new PC, I successfully did this from iTunes 10.7 on an older HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The Apple TV and the wireless router are the same.
    Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Now, if I pull up the TV Shows, Movies, Music list from my iPhone remote app everything is listed and WILL play when selected. I guess the question is why and how do I correct this?
    Interesting observation - the AppleTV can't see th streamed content itself, but the streaming connection is clearly active if you can force it to play from the iPhone.
    It would be good to know if other people can replicated this.
    I noticed some weeks ago that even if the AppleTV disappears from Devices I can still use it in 'Airport' mode as a speaker selectable from iTunes.
    There's more at work here than simple network interruptions.
    I think the initial problem might be a timeout for some communication between the two, but for whatever reason the software at both ends is useless at realising the connection has re-established - so in essence they are connected, just the software at one or both ends has flagged connection down when a brief interruption or delay occurs, and doesn't reset this flag when it's available again.

  • Can I see video stream from a website on my tv from my desktop with apple tv

    I am trying to watch a weekly video stream from a website using my Mac desktop on my tv with Apple Tv..can I do this?

    If your computer is a Mac and new enough (2011+) then maybe.  See required specs here:

    If you have an older Mac or Windows machine try airparrot.

  • How do I stream photo's from my desktop's harddrive (windows 8) to my apple TV?

    I am unable to stream photo's from my desktop's harddrive (runs on Windows 8) to my Apple TV.  I turned Sharing on on both devices.  When I go to my apple TV (and my PC is on with Itunes running), and I click the Computer app on apple TV, I can only see my music in my library.  There are no photos or no other folders.

    In itunes
    Ctrl B to turn on the top menu. Then
    File > Home Sharing > Choose which Photos to sync to apple tv
    This pops up a box where you can select Apps or folders to send the photos to Apple TV

  • Possible to stream from FMLE to another (desktop)computer?

    This is some kind of a challenge: I'm trying to find a
    sollution for streaming a video signal from one computer
    (preferably with FMLE) and pick up the video stream on another
    computer and show the video fullscreen.
    So far it seem to me that FMLE is only able to deliver the
    video stream to a Flash Media Server. Is this correct?
    I'm hoping it is possible to stream the video from FMLE and
    "pick up" that single stream from another computer with maybe a
    program like VLC (or another application? - I just read that VLC
    supports RTMP streams), and show the video fullscreen.
    In theory, maybe I can use Flash Media Server for this, if it
    is able to show the video it's picking up fullscreen.
    Any suggestions or thoughts would be apreciated!
    regards

    carlnes
    Windows Media Encoder and Player as a combination can do this "direct pull" from an encoder to a player without a server in the middle.  But in all the years of commercial live streaming I have done in 10 years, Flash Media Encoder can not be operated in the same way.  A Flash Server has to be in the middle.

  • How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?

    How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?  I want to include the m4v movie into another project in iMovie.

    When you import DV Stream from tape, iMovie 11 will assume that you are importing raw footage from a camera, rather than a finished movie. It will create a new clip everytime it detects a scene break (the record start/stop button was pressed). These clips will be placed in chronolgical order - not the order they were on the tape.
    One way around this is to import the tape into the application that you used to create it. For example, if you used iMovie 6, import the tape back into imovie 6. In iMovie 6, you can export the tape back out using FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose the DV codec in an MOV container.  You can then import this MOV file into iMovie 11 and have everything in the proper order for your finished movie.
    Another option is to use FInal Cut Pro X.

  • Apple TV Gen 2.. Terribly Slow Streaming From Wired Home Network via itunes Windows 7. Please Help

    Hello all, I just signed up for this as i hope to get more results from here than i did waiting 4 hours for a call from apple today.
    I recently purchased an Apple TV Gen 2.. installed it on my Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI cable and also ran a network cable to my basement where my router, (Linksys 5 port router plus Wireless) is mounted on the wall beside the cable modem.
    just to rule things out i will give some spec's and details before i get further into this.
    My goal is to use my Desktop Homebuilt PC running windows 7 ultimate 64bit to store my Digital Movie Library and stream through itunes all of my digital media to my Apple TV located in another room. Both Apple TV and my desktop windows 7 PC are hard wired NOT WIRELESS.
    My internet connection is cable and tested it this evening several times at  58.9 Megabits per second down and 8 Megabits per second down... (yes that is correct 58mb/s down. this equates to about 7.1 megabytes per second download speeds for reference.
    Now just to rule out my 2 year old wireless router i went and purchased a brand new router today... Same results.
    Now on to the problem details and my findings.
    Using my Desktop PC wired to try and stream Itunes movies from the streaming is absurdly slow.. very slow... i have yet to wait to see what happens after 30 minutes of waiting for a Movie to start.. music also takes a long time to load...
    Music... i can go to icloud funtion which i paid for today.. and click on the same song in icloud and the song starts almost instantly, so does music videos...
    Also previously purchased TV shows starts playing from the cloud almost instantly as well even HD TV shows...
    Trying to stream anything through my desktop windows 7 pc just doesnt work right...
    I have narrowed this problem down to my desktop.. but can not figure out what the problem is...
    using my macbook air 120GB SSD wireless over the same network, which i also have a mirrored copy of my itunes library for testing purposes... there is zero issues with streaming anything from my macbook air over the same network via wifi...
    Also using my ipad 2 mirroring works flawlessly, even HD movies plays without a hitch... same goes for my iphone 4s
    the only issues i am having are with my desktop and streaming from my itunes libary on it... i do not want to use my macbook air.. as that defeats the purpose of having apple TV.. in the future i plan on ripping my entire DVD / Blueray collection to a 3 TB hard drive and stream to my AppleTV...  from my desktop computer storing my entire DVD / Blue Ray library digitally on the 3TB hard drive....
    But i can not get this to work...  i can see my itunes libary on my desktop.. i can play music and watch movies.. other than anything HD will not play... but everything takes a rediculously long time to load... i can download an entire movie with my 58mb's connection in the time it takes to load something streaming from my itunes libary on my desktop PC...
    if anyone has any suggestions.. there may be something i have overlooked or i am missing. any input and or advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,

    Ok.. in order to help other users i will post this..
    I have resolved the issue... it was rather simple and dumb...
    I never use windows media player ever.. i do not like it and can not stand it.. because in my case it was a brand new windows installation this fix will only apply to certain users..
    because it was a brand new windows installation.. i had never clicked on windows media player.. apparently streaming settings are embedded into windows media player for the windows 7 OS...    in past installations that i have used for years.. i simply never ever clicked on windows media player, as i never had a reason to.. i use itunes for my ipad, iphone etc.. etc...
    by accident and shear luck i decided to click on windows media player.. and of course go through the express settings....  after i did this all of my streaming problems to my apple tv gen2 disapeared... HD movies now start almost instantly... so as i stated above apparently there are media streaming settings embedded into the OS through windows media player... doesnt make any sense to me as i never use the program.. but whatever that fixed my issue..
    so for any of you windows 7 people out there using a windows 7 pc as your itunes sync computer and using that itunes library to stream to your apple tv... make sure you have done the initial setup at min.. of windows media player.. i still left itunes as my default player....  everything now works flawlessly... infact for whatever reason.. even in an HD movie my network almost has half the movie synced now accross the bar before the movie starts so now my apple tv is blazing fast....
    i have been struggling with this for 2 days now and simply never gave it a thought that windows media player would ever have anything to do with itunes streaming a totally seperate program.. but it did..
    i hope this helps other people with similar problems.
    good luck

  • Bluetooth streaming from phone where is A2DP SINK?

    I've had this computer for over a year now and have never been able to stream audio to it from my iphone5, it pairs easily.
    Ive been checking for updated drivers for it for awhile, but the last updated driver @ HP is from 2013.  I went to Media Tek's website today after i found out they bought Ralink and found there updated driver dated 2014 and tried it, but i still can't stream from phone to pc. I also tried uninstalling the driver and then installing a generic driver but there is none listed.  What can i do to get this functioning?

    Hello @Late4Dinner,
    I understand that you have been having issues streaming from your iphone5 on your HP ENVY h8-1534 Desktop PC running Windows 8.1. Are you able to sync and stream via bluetooth to any other device on your computer? Have you tried it on the original operating system Windows 8? I would advise you to use all the drivers that are on the HP ENVY h8-1534 Desktop PC Drivers page. As these are the driver specifically designed for your computer they will have the best chance of working for you.
    If you could answer the questions I have raised in this post I will endeavor to look into a solution for you. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Capture .bmp from hidden desktop

    Hi , I'm trying to capture a desktop created with the "CreateDesktop" methode.
    But I have some problems. I only get the capture .bmp from the desktop, when
    it is active. This desktop runs on vm,and I connect to it through remote desktop.
    Well, as I said, I only get the bitmap of the desktop when the vm is open. When I mnimize
    or close the remote desktop connection, I dont get any bmp from the desktop.
    For me is important,because the machine were the vm runs,doesnt have any monitor
    to display the desktop.I only want to make this vm to stream its desktop to other computers,
    but the vm wont have any monitor.
    Is there the posibility to set the desktop as active, or to get the bitmap of the desktop from somewhere else ?
    Thank you

    Well, I was passing the wrong DC to the PrintWindow function (the one which I retrieved by using GetWindowDC) and then tried to BitBlt it to the memory DC. But the right solution is to get window DC using GetWindowDC then create compatible DC and PrintWindow
    to it and not use BitBlt on that stage at all.
    Following is a right approach:
    // Some code where you get appropriate HWD
    HDC wndDc = GetWindowDC(hwnd);
    HDC memDc = CreateCompatibleDC(wndDc);
    CRect rc;
    GetWindowRect(hwnd, &rc);
    HBITMAP memBmp = CreateCompatibleBitmap(wndDc, rc.Width(), rc.Height());
    HBITMAP oldBmp = reinterpret_cast<HBITMAP>(SelectObject(memDc, memBmp));
    // Print window to the memory DC.
    PrintWindow(hwnd, memDc, 0);
    // Here you can use memDc of the window
    // (e.g. BitBlt it to the DC of the merged desktop screen)
    DeleteObject(memBmp);
    DeleteDC(wndDc);SelectObject(memDc, oldBmp);
    DeleteDC(memDc);

  • Why are my Airplay devices missing from the desktop Airplay menu bar?

    From my desktop, all devices are visible in iTunes and when I option-click volume.  All devices are visible from my IOS devcies.  But most devices are missing under the Airplay menu at top of my desktop. The only devices visible are Apple TV.  Thus, I cannot select multiple Airplay devices to play at once from my desktop, but am confined to selecting a single device through the option-click volume menu.
    Thanks all.

    Play audio from my iMac to multiple airplay devices (speakers).  I can do so through iTunes, but not outside of iTunes.  For example, I cannot stream audio to multiple devices from a browser.  Perhaps I am looking at the wrong menu. Thanks for inquiring.
    This thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21771160#21771160) seems to suggest in can only be done through iTunes.

  • Cannot open stream from Axis camera

    I'm a newbie in JMF, I'm using JMStudio trying to open a stream from an Axis IP camera.
    I get the following error code:
    UNABLE_CREATE_PLAYERjavax.media.NoPlayerException: Cannot find a Player for :http://192.168.52..../axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi?resolution=640x480*
    I can open from the player only mp3 files, if I try to open standard avi files (like clock.avi under windows directory) I can hear only sound but no videos.
    I think I've a sort of codec problem
    Can someone help me?

    My goal is to save stream from camera to a file.
    I thought that open url could retrieve a mjpeg streamYou can only open URLs if JMF has a DataSource associated with the protocol prefix.
    Protocol prefix means "http", "https", "file", "ftp", etc... the stuff you see before "://" normally.
    JMF can open URLs that use rtp, rtsp, and file by default. It does not do http streaming.
    I tryed also with rtp session but I cannot establish any connection (I can do that with a software like VLC)
    Is that possible? What am I doing wrong?How the hell should I know know what you're doing wrong? All you said was you tried to do something, didn't explain what you did! What you did wrong was not suceeding, that's the advise I can give you based on the information you've given me!
    If your camera supports RTP streaming, and its RTP implementation is compatible with JMF's implementation... and it streams a format JMF can understand, and its format implementation is compatible with JMF's format implementation, then JMF should be able to receive the RTP stream.
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/formats.html]
    JMF supports opening MJPEG files, but doesn't list MJPEG_RTP as a supported format. It supports JPEG_RTP, but those aren't the same thing.
    So maybe you can receive an MJPEG_RTP stream with JMF, but, it isn't listed as being supported by JMF...
