Streaming from iTunes Match over Cellular Data

Hi all,
I recently upgraded from an iPhone 5S to 6 Plus. Since the upgrade I can't stream iTunes Match music over a cellular data connection any more. Whenever I'm on a cellular connection, all the songs are greyed out in the Music app, and I can't tap on them.
I know it's not connection issues because I can still download songs over cellular if I tap the download button, and can also use Spotify just fine.
I had no problems streaming in this way on my iPhone 5S (same iOS version (8.1.2)). And I also checked to make sure 'Music' is toggled to allow cellular data use under "Settings--> Cellular-->'USE CELLULAR DATA FOR:'"
I can still stream on the 6 Plus over Wi-Fi.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem, but after returning from the US; I'm using an iPhone 6 Plus. Did you get this resolved? My data for Music is on. I've turned Match off/on etc..... Nothing seams to resolve it. Will have to call AppleCare, but that's a last resort! Found it! Go to Settings, iTunes & App Store. Then turn the Use Mobile Data [for auto downloads and iTunes Match] ON. It's all okay again now. There seem to be a few data options in different places

  • Shared Photo Streams pushed to device over cellular data

    Hi,
I created today three shared photo streams in iPhoto and all of a sudden my iPhone started getting very hot and battery being drained quickly (it's an oldish 3GS, and the battery level was decreasing even though the iPhone was connected to the charger...).
In a nutshell: it seems that whilst data from the "ordinary" Photo Stream are uploaded/downloaded only when the device is connected to a wi-fi netwrok, if you have shared Photo Streams enabled on a iOS 6 device, picture data in these photo streams are "pushed" to the device also over cellular data, regardless of any other setting.
Apart draining the battery very fast, this may lead to using inadvertently a lot of data traffic in your data plan.
Did anyone notice a similar behavior and find out how to prevent it, apart disabling Shared Photo Streams alltogether, of course, i.e. did anyone find a a way to ensure shared photo streams are pushed to the device only under wi-fi?
    cheers
    -gianpiero

I suppose you could disable Shared Photo Steam while you are at cellular network and enable it again when you are at a wi-fi environment.   In Settings>iCloud>Photo Stream> turn Shared Photo Stream to Off.
The pop up warning tells you that this will delete all shared photos from your device.  What it doesn't say is, since shared photo stream remains stored in iCloud, all you shared and shared with you photo streams will be push back to your device once you enable Shared Photo Steam in wi-fi.  The downside of course is if you have a lot of photos in your shared photo steams, it will take some time to download them.  But at least you know for sure your cellular data is not affected.
Btw, Shared Photo Steams doesn't count towards iCloud storage, just like Photo Steams.  Maybe That's why turning off iCloud document doesn't affect shared photo steams.

  • Apple TV no longer stream from iTunes Match

Since the last update Apple TV does not longer stream my music from iTunes Match. Also is the option for itunes match not longer selectable but on my ipad is it still working.

Did you ever get this figured out?
I am having this problem with my just-purchased Apple TV 3rd generation A1469, MD199LL/A, software 6.0.2.
iTunes on my mac is at the latest version 11.1.3.
iTunes Match has been, and continues to work for me on iPhone 5s. My Mac reports iTunes Match: iTunes library available in iCloud.
After enabling iTunes Match, I see "Setting up your Apple TV to stream music from iTunes Match. This may take a few minutes, depending on the size of your library and Internet connection speed." After this a thermometer bar slowly completes left to right, indicating some kind of sync info transfer is occurring. This takes a number of minutes. Some minutes are the thermometer bar completes, the following error message appears:
    /_!_\ iTunes Match
There was a problem connecting to iCloud. Try again later.
( /_!_\ above symbolizes an exclamation point inside a yellow triangle. )
One thing which may be somewhat uncommon in my setup is that I have two Apple ID's. One is my iTunes Store Apple ID. This is used for all my iTunes purchases, iTunes in the cloud, and iTunes Match. The other is my iCloud ID. In Apple TV settings, iTunes Store is associated with my iTunes Store ID. I have tried with Apple TV iCloud associated with my iCloud ID, with my iTunes Store ID, and also signed out, with no difference in behavior.
Another thing which may be uncommon is I am using the Apple ID two-factor authentication (two-step verification) described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US. Perhaps Apple TV has no way to deal with this? I have not tried disabling that as an experiment: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5631.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide - I would really like to operate from iTunes Match and so as not to need to have mymacbook pro on and running iTunes and home sharing in order to enable content to apple tv.

  • Does iOS 5 support streaming from iTunes Match?

    Hi everyone,
I'm considering signing up for iTunes Match,  I just have a question about the way it works in iOS 5.
I have a 16GB iPhone with iOS 5, and the reason I'm wanting a cloud service is because I can't fit my music library on the iPhone itself, so I'd like to be able to stream it.
My question is, does iTunes Match allow me to stream music on the iPhone using iOS 5, or is streaming only a feature for iOS 6 devices? It would rather defeat the point of getting iTunes Match if I have to download each song before listening, as obviously that's no better than just syncing with iTunes.
    Thanks in advance.

In iOS 5 all music is downloaded to permanent storage when you listen to it. It is similar in iOS 6 except the "streamed" songs are not store in permanent memory on the iOS device.

  • My work computer won't access songs from iTunes Match

Here's what happened: I started using iTunes Match about a month ago. I had a 7500+ song library on my Hewlett Packard Windows 7 64bit laptop. I did the matching process and about 3000 songs were unmatched. Match started to upload them and it took forever (I have a slow internet connection at home), so I took a hint from a poster at Apple Support and copied my library to a portable disk which I brought to my office. I tried to get the iTunes on my work computer to recognize the library on the portable disk, but couldn't do it, so I copied the whole library to my hard drive at work, reinstalled iTunes, and it recognized the new library. It then uploaded all my songs in an hour or two.
Then, I decided I didn't want my whole library to be taking up tens of GB of space on my office computer, so I deleted the music portion of the iTunes Media folder--I figured, it will all be available via streaming from iTunes Match, right? Well, it wasn't. Now when I log onto iTunes, all but a very small number of songs are unavailable: they are listed as being in the Library, but when I click on them to stream them, I get the error message "The song "x" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" If I click "Yes", I am taken to the local music library on the work computer, which contains next to nothing.
I have deleted and re-installed iTunes. No help. I have turned off Match and turned it back on. No help. I have updated Match. Nothing.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong and how to get my work computer iTunes to stream my Match results?

Figured it out! All you have to do is select all songs (from the Edit menu), right click on them and "delete" them. You won't actually delete them, they're still there in the cloud, but now the little download cloud symbol appears and I can stream all my music at work.
One warning--if the cloud download symbol is already there, don't delete the song. Just go through after selecting the songs and de-select any song with a cloud symbol next to it, otherwise it will be deleted from the cloud, too.
I figured this out all on my own with no help from Apple. Typical.

  • I just got iTunes Match and I would like to know if downloading my songs from the cloud uses cellular data?

I just got iTunes Match and would like to know if downloading my songs from the cloud uses cellular data if I am not able to use wifi?

    Hi,
Yes, it will use cellular data. If you know that you are going to out of wifi range, you can predownload some music whilst you have a wifi connection.

  • Allow itunes radio over cellular, but not iTunes Match

I recently subscrived to iTunes Match to get the benefit of commercial-less iTunes Radio.  However I find myself with a quandry.  In order for iTunes Match to affect iTunes Radio, it must be enabled on my iPhone.  But if I enable it on my iPhone I cannot tell which files are local in my library if viewing the library from the iPod link in my vehicle.  Is there any way to allow iTunes Radio to use the cellular connection but prevent iTunes Match from downloading songs over cellular?

I concur.  Requiring Match to be switched on, even though we have paid, to get ad free Radio is a rip off.  Why?
Because if you want to listen to Radio with cellular data (not much data required) you are also agreeing to Match over cellular which can suck data like you won't believe.

  • IOS 7 continues iTunes in the Cloud downloads over cellular data, ignoring settings.

I have run into an *expensive* little bug in iOS 7.0.1.
Kids, don't try this at home:
While on wifi, turn on show all music or iTunes Match. Make sure "use cellular data" is OFF.
Go to music and start downloading something (like a playlist with about 3000 songs...)
Now turn off wifi or move out of range. Your songs will continue downloading over cellular data!
Kiss your data limit and your battery life goodbye.
There is NO WAY to stop the download queue, short of turning on airplane mode, and it will continue as soon as you turn it back off. You can go into iTunes downloads and manually pause each song, but only after they have started to download.  Restarting the phone or signing out of your iTunes account does not work. You can  also deselect songs that are pending in music, but again, you have to do this for every song.
I'll be calling AT&T tomorrow to try and get these overages removed, and Apple to let them know about this... I mean, really? How hard can it be to stop downloading when the wifi goes away? iTunes Radio stops immediately when you drop off wifi...

I just realized you can go into Settings->cellular and turn off cellular data for Music... that might work, but I don't know if it will stop downloads that are already running. I wonder if this is related to the multipath TCP implementation: once a connection is initiated, the app doesn't know when the network changes!

  • HT204406 i want to download all the songs from itunes match back to my pc.  there are well over 2000 songs. instead of downloading one by one, is there a way to download all of them while I sleap?

I want to download all the songs from iTunes Match back to my PC (iTunes).  Instead of downloading one by one, can I have all the songs downloaded back to my iTunes by one shot (while I sleap)?

I just found the answer by myself.  Instead of clicking Cloud icon one by one, highlight all the songs in Cloud (after sorting by Cloud status) and riight click, download.  Now I am getting all the songs back to my local machine.  I will sync my iOS devices tomorrow and just GET RID OF iTUNES MATCH.  To me, it was a disaster.  Worse than their map app.

  • HT204406 Downloading from iTunes Match.

I am trying to download one of my albums from iTunes Match, and only some of the songs are downloading (yes, I clicked download all).  The songs show the circle as if it's going to download, but then the "Cloud" icon reappears, and the download begins with the next song.  I have tried deleting the album and starting over, but that doesn't work.  Anyone know how to fix this?  Happens when I try Cellular Data or just Wifi.
    Thanks!
    Sean

Yes it will use data on your cellular plan unless connected to wi-fi.

  • How can I download songs from iTunes match to my iMac

How can I down load my music from iTunes match and play it on my iMac without having g3 or wifi?

    Hi tkattan,
iTunes Match is ran strictly off of Wi-Fi or a Cellular connection. Devices with iTunes Match turned off can have both the computer and device without any connection to the internet to download music via USB. However, iTunes Match is ran off of iCloud—a Wi-Fi/Cellular based product.
If you would like to download a song on your device connected to the internet:
Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a Cellular Network.
Make sure your device is running iOS 5.0 or higher (only iDevices can run iTunes Match).
Go to "Music" and you will see music able to be downloaded from the cloud. (If you do not see your music, make sure you have General > Music > Show All Music "ON".)
Click the cloud symbol next to the songs you would like to stream them on your phone and without a Wi-Fi/Cellular connection.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can't download podcast episodes over cellular data

I am running the current ios software and have the current Apple Podcast app installed. Since updating to 7.0.4 and installing the current app version, I now am having issues with downloading podcast episodes using cellular data specifically. You try and download an episode and it just freezes and then says "download error, tap to retry". You then get a massive popup saying "unable to download podcast" and underneath this, it says the podcast episode "could not be downloaded at this time". This happens not just with one specific podcast. I have tried everything I can think of and that Apple have suggested. I have:
    - Unsubscribed then resubscribed to podcasts I have seen this issue with
    - Closed out of the app and gone back in
    - Ensured at all times I have been attempting this, that cellular data has been on for podcasts
    - Switched cellular data off for podcasts and as a whole then I have switched back on
    - Done a hard reset of the phone
    - Deleted the Podcast app itself, reinstalled and then tried to download an episode over cellular data
    - Reset Network Settings
    - Performed a full restore of the device
After doing the restore, I set the phone up as new and then installed just the podcast app and was able to download an episode over cellular data. I then restored my data from backup and then all of a sudden, I had the same issue again. I did another reset of the network settings and then the issue went away. The issue has returned yet again today. I called Apple to advise and they say they will investigate and get back to me.
Has anyone else had this issue and have you managed to find a permanent solution? When I am on wifi, I don't have this issue at all. I attempted to download another app and a song from itunes over 3G and had no issues. As such, I can only conclude there must either be an issue with the app itself or ios7.0.4 has done some damage here. I like to download my podcasts on the train to work so don't always have the ability to download over 3G.
    A very annoying issue!

I am having same problem, except mine is a movie rental on 3rd gen ipad wifi. It seems like this problem has been occuring for quite a few years and apple cant be bothered to fix it. It is really annoying because none of the fixes work. My movie is 99% downloaded and i cant play it or delete or retry the download. Its gona be a few months before anyone from apple decides to post to this thread anyway. Its a real shame. In the apple store not one "genius" cud help with this either.

Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs.

  • Help Syncing From iTunes Match

I recently signed up for iTunes Match because I got fed up when my iPod crashed and I lost over 16,000 songs. So, I have been adding songs to iTunes Match for over a month now and then loading the songs onto my iPod. So, basically, iTunes Match is my backup. Well, my iPod crashed on me again. So, how do I sync my songs from iTunes Match to my iPod? Here is the kicker: I upload songs while I'm at work. I can't have these songs on my work computer. So, I bring in my CDs and songs from home and upload everything into iTunes Match and my iPod. Then, I delete them off the computer. When I come home, I have two computers signed into iTunes Match and everything that I upload from work is listed there, on both computers. I can stream or download the songs. So, now, I am trying to sync the songs from Itunes Match to my iPod. When I plug in the iPod and click "sync" nothing happens. So again, how do I get my iPod to sync my songs from iTunes Match to the iPod?
    Thanks

iPhoto treats the iPhone like an attached camera. open iPhoto and transfer the photos from the phone to your macbook. Hope this helps!
Also, as far as i know you can only sync music from a computer to the iPhone, and from only one computer at a time. So if you are syncing the phone to your PC's itunes library and then switch it to your macbook, it will overwrite all the PC music.
