Streaming from my mac to apple tv

I have home sharing turned on but can't stream from my mac to my apple tv

Are you trying to stream music or video? Streaming video from Mac to AppleTV (called Airplay Mirroring) is only supported on certain Macs. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404
If you are trying to stream audio, try the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 If your computer is compatible with AirPlay Mirroring, you can use it to mirror the computer screen to your Apple TV.
If your Mac isn't compatible with AirPlay Mirroring, you can use a third-party app, like AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com

  • How many hard drives can i stream from one mac for apple tv

Hi a newbie to all this ive got a 500gb external hd and running out of space but am looking to buy a 1tb but i want to set it up as im using both hard drives so i get 1.5tb as this is a cheaper option for me is this possible and how
    many thanks for your time

You need to turn off the option to copy content to the iTunes folder in iTunes preferences, then when you add new content to iTunes you will need to place the content on one of the HDDs and then drag and drop it onto iTunes from a finder window.
Or you can alternatively leave the "Copy" option on and simply press the Alt-key when dragging and dropping content to momentarily suspend the "Copy" of the dragged content to the library. (I.e., iTunes will gladly manage both copied and non-copied content as long as you do not move or delete the non-copied files at the Finder level after adding them to the iTunes database.)

  • Hello, I've just purchased apple tv, 3rd gen, and I'm streaming from my mac book pro to my tv, and it keeps skipping slightly, i have reasonably good internet speed, approx 7-8 Gb.

hi, my apple tv i have purchased which is 3rd gen, is skipping when i stream to my tv, I'm using the latest software on my mac book pro, which is approx 2 years old, my router is only a few months old, but i am using power line adapters, but i have no problem downloading or watching internet telly 4OD/YOUTUBE etc.
is their anything i can do as i have only  bought the apple tv for mainly streaming from my mac.
    thanks
    gary

If you are streaming from your Mac then your internet speed would be irrelevant. This is done over the local network, and that is where the issue lies.
    Reboot ATV and router
Make sure router is up to date
If Apple TV is connecting via wifi, connect with ethernet
Go to istumbler.net to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise

  • App for streaming from network drive to Apple TV?

I'm looking for an app that can do several things. There are apps that I've downloaded and paid for >:-( that do one or even tow of these things, but I want to:
Stream movies (of different file types) from a network drive (WD MyBookLive) to Apple TV, via an iPad.
There are apps that will stream any filetype from a Mac to apple TV, but they need certain server software running on the Mac, so no good for me with my network drive.
There are also apps that will play any filetype on an iPad, streamed from a network drive. But these won't stream to Apple TV.
Is there something that does both, that doesn't require special software on the drive?
    Thanks!

    That's a shame.
    thanks Rudegar

  • HT4381 would like to stream from macbook pro to apple tv

would like to stream from macbook pro to  apple tv

Okay, use AirPlay if the Mac supports it or Home Sharing.

  • Can I stream from my iPhone to apple tv by bluetooth

can I stream from my iPhone to apple tv by bluetooth
We have a new SONY BRAVIA 32" in our RV how can I stream directly from my Iphone or ipad direct to the TV via Bluetooth?

No you cannot.  The only Blutooth support for the ATV is keyboards.
AirPlay requires the ATV and source (iPhone/iPad/computer) be on the same network, wired or wireless.

  • How can I see My Photo Stream from two Macs associated with the same Apple ID?

I have a MacBook Pro (my personal machine) and an iMac (our family computer).
The iPhoto library housing all of our family photos lives on the iMac.
The iPhoto library on my MacBook Pro is currently empty.
I have an account on both machines.  I have associated the same Apple ID with both machines.
When I launch iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and attempt to turn on photo sharing (so that I can see My Photo Stream, as well as other shared streams), iPhoto informs me that "iCloud Photos for xxx@xxx is being used with another library named 'iPhoto Library'."
My iPhone, which is also affiliated with the same Apple ID, shows the streams just fine.
What can I do to remedy this situation?  I'd like to be able to view my shared streams on my MacBook Pro, while leaving the actual massive photo library on the iMac.

I found out about this issue when I created a new library with some photo's I wanted to sync to my iCloud account.  I found the following on the Fat Cat Software page and thought it might be helpful to others:
Using Photo Stream with multiple libraries
Starting in iPhoto 9.2, Apple introduced a new feature called Photo Stream, which lets you automatically transfer photos via their iCloud service between your iPhoto library and your other devices such as an iPhone, iPad, or another Mac. This feature works when you have multiple iPhoto libraries set up, but there are a couple things to be aware of.
First, iPhoto will only allow Photo Stream to be active in one iPhoto library at any given time. If you've already enabled Photo Stream in one library, but then open a second library and enable Photo Stream there, this will cause Photo Stream to be turned off in the first library.
Any photos downloaded by Photo Stream are actually stored in an entirely separate location from any of your iPhoto libraries. This means that, even if you do switch Photo Stream from one library to another, you will not need to go through redownloading all the photos you already have in Photo Stream back from the iCloud servers. So, switching Photo Stream from one library to another is a relatively inexpensive operation, so you can do it as often as needed without it being much of a hassle.

  • Streaming cutting out when streaming from iTunes libarary to Apple TV

Up until a day or two ago everything was working fine, and I haven't changed anything with my WIFI settings or anything else.
I usually load up a .mp4 file into iTunes libary and then play it, and then I click on the Apple TV icon to stream it to my TV. This works fine, however after about 10 minutes it can cut out, and then when I restart it, it's fine, but then cuts out again later.
At first I thought it was a problem with the file I had converted from AVI to MP4, but I just tired a native MP4 and I still get the issue.
I haven't changed any settings on my mac or apple tv.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
The following article(s) may help you.

  • Streaming from Vista PC to Apple TV

I've been having a problem for a while now, and I can't seem to figure it out. I have a Vista PC that contains my media library, and an Apple TV. I can Sync just fine to the Apple TV, but my Apple TV cannot see any non-sync'd files.
It used to work fine. I have tried disconnecting/reconnecting the Apple TV with the library, and that doesn't work. I do NOT have the "show only synced items" checkbox checked.
The network seems fine -- I can view HD trailers very quickly, and I can sync fairly quickly, too.
Does streaming use different ports than syncing? What ports should I check? Is there any way to diagnose the problem -- specific ports I can test?
I'm kindof at a loss - I don't know whether it's the Apple TV itself that might be bad or whether it's a problem with Vista. I was considering trying alternatives to the Apple TV, but it's been easy to use and my non-tech family members are used to using it now.
However, without the ability to stream, it's kinda useless to us.
    Please help! Thanks in advance!

I tried turning off the windows firewall - no help.
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting to iTunes - no help. Also, when I go to select a library, the library is "greyed out" as though the pc isn't connected.
Also, now it's giving me this error: "The Apple TV [Name] is not responding. Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."
    1) I turned off the firewall.
    2) Before and after I turned off the firewall, I can telnet from a mac to the vista machine port 3689. So it's definitely accepting incoming connections.
I'm resetting the Apple TV to factory, and I'm going to re-apply the updates. Maybe that will help.

  • TS3989 how can I share a photo stream from my mac? there's no check box in system preferences to turn it on

I've been having trouble to share my photo stream with other from my mac. Once I selecte the photos and click share>photo stream, nothing else happens. The option for "new photo stream" does not appear, neither the field where you type in the email addresses from people you whant to share it with. I all ready checked in iphoto'11> system Pref.> photo stream and there's no "shared photo strem" check box to turn on or off... I also checked in my mac system pref to be sure that my icloud is enabled and it is.
If I select photos and then go to my tool bar and press share. the option of photo stream is not available.
I also can't accept any shared photo stream from other and view it in my iphoto. I can only access it via web.
I DO can use my photo stream correctly and share it via my iphone. and every picture that I take uploads into my mac and every photo I import from cameras into my iphoto also uploads fine into my Ph stream. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I CAN'T SHARE THEM FROM MY MAC.....
    Please can someone help me?

You turn on Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane:
Check the box "Automatic Upload" to add every photo imported into the library to the Photo Stream.  Or leave it unchecked and manually add just selected photos to the stream by dragging them onto the Photo Stream heading in the left hand pane.
