Streaming from PC to TV wirelessly.

I just saw a commercial showing the blue labels and toshiba laptops and they were showing that they could stream from the laptop to the tv wirelessly.  You could show videos or do slideshows, etc..  How do I do that?
Thanks,
J

No, the new blue label laptops have built in wi-di technology from intel. They utilize a netgear adapter  to transmit the wireless signal and the adapter plugs into the t.v. via hdmi.

How do photos end up in my Camera Roll and Photo Stream from a back-up wirelessly?

Photos taken with your iPhone go into Camera Roll and added to Photo Stream.
After 30 days, photos will be removed from Photo Stream. They will say in Camera Roll.
You should download Photo Stream photos to your computer regularly so you have them.

  • Wirelessly stream from macbook to tv with only coaxial input

I was hoping for some help. I travel a lot and end up in hotels with TV's that only have a coaxial cable input. Is there a way and what products do I need to wirelessly stream media mostly video from my macbook to a tv with coaxial input only. I have a RF converter so I can stream from an ipod to TV's like this. But I would like to stream items on my laptop. Since this is typically for travel, I dont need advice about using an apple tv, etc. Was just hoping someone would have been in a similar situation and can offer me some inexpensive and easy to travel with advice. Many thanks in advance.

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports.
The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio. If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug.
The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

here's a dumb ? I'm trying to find out how I can print from my ipad. I read about air streaming printers. so is a wireless printer considered an air streaming printer. i have 1 pc, my mac

If you already have a printer, you can probable use a program like, printopia to let your mac share your printer with the iOS device like your iPad. The catch being your computer has to be on, and not asleep, for the printer to work with your iPad.
If you need a printer that is airprint ready, you can find a list on AirPrint, wireless printing straight from your iPad. Check out the bottom of the page where it says works with airprint enabled printers. There are even links on the page so you can buy the printers right from Apple's website.

  • Wireless streaming from iOS devices to an older analogue system

I was told that this could be done by connecting my Airport Express (not current update) to the wireless router, then connecting the Airport Express.  I was then instructed to connect the Airport Express to my audio unit via a mini jack to the AE and the RCA cables to the back of my amplifier.
The AE remains "yellow" though my devices are connected to it.  I add home sharing and voila, my iphone acts like a remote to the Mac and music starts streaming from it rather than the audio system!  Not what I was planning.
Can someone tell me how to set this up right?

Please check out the following Apple Support article on details on setting up an Express for iTunes streaming.

  • ITunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from an external drive (or streamed from other wireless devices). Any solution in sight?

Video streaming of DRM movies, purchased from iTunes and other vendors, to any iOS device is not working.

I am not sure if you really understand the issue at hand. Possibly that you are just scanning, not reading the whole text, or simply that you just want to close a thread with your last words or derail it for whatever strange reason. So far you have been more destructive than helpful, but again this could be ignorance at best.
If you would have had the decency to read the entire thread you would have come to the conclusion that every manufacturer, I came across, has posted FAQ's to this issue but Apple. Find a short excerpt below:

Most forms of DRM (Digital Rights Management) will prevent playing movies on unauthorized devices or from remote storage hosted on wireless drives or NAS drives(Seagate Wireless, Seagate Wireless Plus, Seagate Central or Seagate Personal Cloud). Movies purchased from iTunes can be streamed to iOS 6 and iOS 7 devices which were authorized from remote storage (the video could be selected in Seagate Media App and would be played in a Safari browser), however in iOS 8 this has stopped working. A bug has been filed with Apple, however this functionality has not been restored. Therefore, DRM protected movies purchased on iTunes can no longer be played on devices running iOS 8.
SanDisk  http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes <http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes> Videos purchased or rented from iTunes will not play in iOS 8 The SanDisk Wireless Media Drive and Wireless Flash Drive support streaming of DRM protected iTunes purchased movie content to authorized devices in iOS 6 and iOS 7 ONLY. The DRM protected content is opened in Safari where the DRM is decrypted and the video is played. iOS 8 issue In iOS 8 Apple device has NOT enabled Safari based DRM decryption. Therefore DRM protected content, i.e. purchased movies or TV shows from iTunes, CANNOT be streamed from the Media Drive/WFD in iOS 8. This issue has been reported to Apple. We do not have any estimated date when Safari will support DRM decryption of iTunes purchased content.

Here are the remaining issues that we are aware of in the iOS 8 general release: • Video streaming of DRM movies (purchased from iTunes and other vendors): iTunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from AirStash (or streamed from other wireless devices). These movies are digitally protected and the AirStash app sends them to the Safari browser to play (which works for all prior iOS versions). However, in iOS 8, Safari will no longer allow DRM movies to play. These movies will play when the video is transferred to the iPhone/iPad and played in the Apple's Video App or the corresponding App from the vendor.

If this is the case and Apple will not address this issue or fix it since Apple believes that movies should be protected this way, you need to let the community know that movies are restricted this way. It appears that Apple finally fixed an issue they had with their movie DRMs. The files should have never played in the first place. • Apple TV Gen 2.. Terribly Slow Streaming From Wired Home Network via itunes Windows 7. Please Help

Hello all, I just signed up for this as i hope to get more results from here than i did waiting 4 hours for a call from apple today.
I recently purchased an Apple TV Gen 2.. installed it on my Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI cable and also ran a network cable to my basement where my router, (Linksys 5 port router plus Wireless) is mounted on the wall beside the cable modem.
just to rule things out i will give some spec's and details before i get further into this.
My goal is to use my Desktop Homebuilt PC running windows 7 ultimate 64bit to store my Digital Movie Library and stream through itunes all of my digital media to my Apple TV located in another room. Both Apple TV and my desktop windows 7 PC are hard wired NOT WIRELESS.
My internet connection is cable and tested it this evening several times at  58.9 Megabits per second down and 8 Megabits per second down... (yes that is correct 58mb/s down. this equates to about 7.1 megabytes per second download speeds for reference.
Now just to rule out my 2 year old wireless router i went and purchased a brand new router today... Same results.
Now on to the problem details and my findings.
Using my Desktop PC wired to try and stream Itunes movies from the streaming is absurdly slow.. very slow... i have yet to wait to see what happens after 30 minutes of waiting for a Movie to start.. music also takes a long time to load...
Music... i can go to icloud funtion which i paid for today.. and click on the same song in icloud and the song starts almost instantly, so does music videos...
Also previously purchased TV shows starts playing from the cloud almost instantly as well even HD TV shows...
Trying to stream anything through my desktop windows 7 pc just doesnt work right...
I have narrowed this problem down to my desktop.. but can not figure out what the problem is...
using my macbook air 120GB SSD wireless over the same network, which i also have a mirrored copy of my itunes library for testing purposes... there is zero issues with streaming anything from my macbook air over the same network via wifi...
Also using my ipad 2 mirroring works flawlessly, even HD movies plays without a hitch... same goes for my iphone 4s
the only issues i am having are with my desktop and streaming from my itunes libary on it... i do not want to use my macbook air.. as that defeats the purpose of having apple TV.. in the future i plan on ripping my entire DVD / Blueray collection to a 3 TB hard drive and stream to my AppleTV...  from my desktop computer storing my entire DVD / Blue Ray library digitally on the 3TB hard drive....
But i can not get this to work...  i can see my itunes libary on my desktop.. i can play music and watch movies.. other than anything HD will not play... but everything takes a rediculously long time to load... i can download an entire movie with my 58mb's connection in the time it takes to load something streaming from my itunes libary on my desktop PC...
if anyone has any suggestions.. there may be something i have overlooked or i am missing. any input and or advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,

Ok.. in order to help other users i will post this..
I have resolved the issue... it was rather simple and dumb...
I never use windows media player ever.. i do not like it and can not stand it.. because in my case it was a brand new windows installation this fix will only apply to certain users..
because it was a brand new windows installation.. i had never clicked on windows media player.. apparently streaming settings are embedded into windows media player for the windows 7 OS...    in past installations that i have used for years.. i simply never ever clicked on windows media player, as i never had a reason to.. i use itunes for my ipad, iphone etc.. etc...
by accident and shear luck i decided to click on windows media player.. and of course go through the express settings....  after i did this all of my streaming problems to my apple tv gen2 disapeared... HD movies now start almost instantly... so as i stated above apparently there are media streaming settings embedded into the OS through windows media player... doesnt make any sense to me as i never use the program.. but whatever that fixed my issue..
so for any of you windows 7 people out there using a windows 7 pc as your itunes sync computer and using that itunes library to stream to your apple tv... make sure you have done the initial setup at min.. of windows media player.. i still left itunes as my default player....  everything now works flawlessly... infact for whatever reason.. even in an HD movie my network almost has half the movie synced now accross the bar before the movie starts so now my apple tv is blazing fast....
i have been struggling with this for 2 days now and simply never gave it a thought that windows media player would ever have anything to do with itunes streaming a totally seperate program.. but it did..
i hope this helps other people with similar problems.
    good luck

  • How to stream from iPad to apple tv via airport express with the airport express being connected to the internet

I have an apple tv, iPad 3 and airport express. Im at school and the apple tv is technically not supported by the network. Ive read that one could use AirPlay to apple tv via AE.
Can someone help me make this work? Step by step process if possible.
    Thanks in advance,

The router does provide WIFI, but the thing is the Apple TV will be out of reach. I want to avoid having two routers / networks. That's why Apple TV is hardwired. The AirPort (also hardwired) should only work as a receiver for the iPhone - streaming iPhone content to the Apple TV.
BOTH the Apple TV and the AirPort Express are AirPlay "speakers." That is, you can stream from iTunes to either device. You don't need both if the Apple TV is hardwired to an existing router. That provided the necessary networking for AirPlay to stream over. Wi-Fi is NOT required for AirPlay if you have a wired connection between the AirPlay "server" (i.e., iTunes host) and the AirPlay "speaker."
The Apple TV would work as a "receiver" for your iPhone.
If AirPlay is an application layer software, how may two AirPlay device communicate directly? Normally all communication is relayed by the access point.
AirPlay is a streaming protocol that runs over TCP/IP. AirPlay "speakers" DO NOT communicate with each other directly. The basic communication path is between an AirPlay "server" and an AirPlay "speaker" or multiple "speakers." Again the path between them can be either be wired or wireless or some combination of each.

  • Is it possible to use an AirPort Time Capsule as both a Time Machine and an external hard drive from which to stream from?

I recently purchased a new 2TB Time Capsule. I purchased it in hopes that I can set it up in 2 ways.
    1. Empty my almost completely full MacBook harddrive onto it (mostly movies, music, and photos) that I can stream directly from via iTunes and my Apple TV (this will allow me to free up much needed space on my MacBook)
    2. Use it as a wireless Time Capsule to back up what is left on my harddrive
I currently use another external harddrive as a time machine but it is a cumbersome process. I know that Time Capsule's weren't built to be partined for needs such as this, but I've been told by Apple that it is possible. Does anyone know how? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    1. Empty my almost completely full MacBook harddrive onto it (mostly movies, music, and photos) that I can stream directly from via iTunes and my Apple TV
Yes, you can use the Time Capsule to provide both a wired and wireless network AND media storage to stream from an iTunes host device to an Apple TV. As an example, you can place your iTunes Library on either the TC's internal HDD or an external USB HDD attached to the TC. You can then access this library from iTunes located on a Mac or PC, and then, stream it to the Apple TV.
    2. Use it as a wireless Time Capsule to back up what is left on my harddrive
Yes, you can use the TC as a backup destination for either Time Machine or any other network-ready backup program. Again you can either use its internal HDD or an attached USB HDD for this purpose.

  • Can I stream from iphone 3g to apple tv

I Just moved and cannot get cable/internet for another week. Soo... My iphone has internet (duh!) but cannot support a wireless hotspot. I also have at my disposal a MacBook Pro and an airport express. What I would like to do is stream from my iphone to my 3rd gen Apple TV. Can I somehow setup a network for sharing without having the iphone try to use the wifi for internet. Or could it be possible to connect the MacBook Pro to the Apple TV via a wifi network then stream the phone to the MacBook Pro via Bluetooth?

You can't use the cellular connection to stream data from the web and then share it using a wifi hotspot on your phone to use AirPlay if that is what you are after.
You can however set up a proper wifi network using a router if you want without having an outside connection and use it to Airplay content on your phone you downloaded from your cellular network.

  • Can I stream from my iPhone to apple tv by bluetooth

can I stream from my iPhone to apple tv by bluetooth
We have a new SONY BRAVIA 32" in our RV how can I stream directly from my Iphone or ipad direct to the TV via Bluetooth?

No you cannot.  The only Blutooth support for the ATV is keyboards.
AirPlay requires the ATV and source (iPhone/iPad/computer) be on the same network, wired or wireless.

  • Slow Streaming From Time Capsule to Apple TV

    Hi,
I have several movies and tv programmes stored on my Time Capsule..... When I stream from the time capsule to Apple TV it is very slow and is constantly buffering. How can I get around this as at present the films / programmes are un-watchable.
    Thanks
    mbchunky

Thanks for describing your current network configuration for streaming.
In your current setup, QuickTime will first have to access the media files from the TC over a wireless connection. From there it will send the stream back to the TC. The TC will then send the stream to the Apple TV. As you can see there are a number of potential Wi-Fi interference issues along this overall path. Interference is not just from other Wi-Fi operating nearby, but also includes microwave ovens, portable phones, baby monitors, etc. Very importantly, it also includes the type of building material used along the path the wireless signal must travel through.
I would suggest that you do a bit of testing to determine what exactly the data throughput you are getting. Once you understand those values, we should be able to determine where the bottlenecks are and try to eliminate them if possible.
Please take a look at the following AirPort User Tip for details on taking throughput measurements.

  • Streaming from Time Capsule to Apple TV

I'm considering to purchase the Time Capsule. My purpose is to have a wireless HD with my complete iTunes Library on it and tstreming music and video to ATV.
Does anyone have exprerience with this set up?

I am assuming that you currently have the existing model of the Apple TV and not the latest just announced by Apple ... correct?
If so, you are already aware that the Apple TV can either "duplicate" your iTunes Library or can accept streams from an iTunes host. If your goal is to use the new Time Capsule (TC) as the location of the iTunes Library, this should work, but bandwidth performance will be critical, especially for streaming HD video.
To stream, you will need to take into consideration the path that the stream will be required to take to get to the Apple TV. For HD video, you will want this path to be Gigabit Ethernet wherever possible ... so ideally (but not necessarily practically) that would mean that the iTunes host and the Apple TV would need to be connected to the TC by Ethernet. That is because, the iTunes host must first contact the TC to access its iTunes Library. The TC will stream the data to the iTunes host and, in turn, the host will stream it back to the TC, and finally, the TC will stream it to the Apple TV. The path taken, of course, will change depending on the connection types (wired or wireless) ... and if you have configured the Apple TV as an iTunes speaker.

  • Streaming From Lumia 920 to TV

Hi All. I haven't posted anything here for quite a while which is a reflection of just how delighted I am with my Nokia Lumia 800 and now 920. Thank you Nokia and Microsoft!
My 920 is SUCH a step up from the 800! I'm going to hang on to the 800 as a spare should the 920 need servicing but, as of yet, there's absolutely no sign of any problems with either phone or their accessories - the wireless car charger being my favourite.
This post is to ask about streaming from the Lumia 920 to my television. I often use my 920 to browse the web etc whilst sitting in front of the TV when I can't be bothered to get up and wander around the house looking for my laptop. Is there a device I can plug into my Sony TV so that I can stream data to it from my Lumia 920? I would like to be able to use my TV to get a much larger image of whatever happens to be on my Lumia 920 screen.
I'm not sure where on the forum to post this so apologies in advance if I've got it wrong.
    Colin

Unfortunate the 920 does not have a TV out facility. It is however possible to stream media wirelessly from your phone to any tv linked to your home network using an app called PlayTo.

Thanks for any tips or advice in advance.

It can output to wireless speakers that work with airplay.
