Streaming HDTV media through E4200 to TV

Hi all.
Basically the problem is that the HD media steamed through the E4200 router has a significant lag on the TV. So details..
I have the Linksys E4200 wifi router and want to stream the HD video from my computer to TV.
The connection schema is pretty straightforward:
Computer with 10/100 mbit network adapter-----(network cable)-->E4200----(WIFI)----->TV with 802.11n WIFI adapter.
Also 10(ten) mbit Internet connection cable is plugged into WIFI router. The questions are:
1) Can the 10 mbit internet connection affect the speed of the media content being streamed through the E4200 router?
2) Does it make sense to buy the WIFI 802.11 n adapter and use it instead of the network adapter / cable in the connection schema mentioned above?
3) What can be other possible reasons of the lag?
Any information is highly appreciated.

If there is an increased speed for internet there will be hassel free media streaming in both wired connection and wireless connection.
If you have an 802.11n card in your computer. New generation routers speaks an entirely different language than 802.11g cards, so while those adapters can work with the E4200v2 for example, they are not optimized to work with it. It is like having to translate from one language to another in real time when going from N to G... So in those cases the old router will show a stronger signal than the new one.
You can try the following settings:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • Can't stream Windows media in Safari

I'm trying to stream video content through Safari. The content is Windows-based so I've had to install Flip4Mac, Windows Media Player, and a plugin for Safari. When I launch the content, it's supposed to open a new Safari window where the content will stream. The window opens but nothing plays.
For the record, I've tried viewing the content through Firefox, with the same result. The only difference is that the Firefox window tells me I need to install a plug-in - Flip4Mac, which I've already installed.
The content provider's technical support isn't much help. They've offered a refund on what I purchased but I want the content! Any ideas what's happening?

I spoke too soon John. I was (stupidly) trying to open the Windows Media-1.stix without having gotten the stuffitexpander. I downloaded the windows media from your Page #2 which gave me the Windows Media-1.stix. Then got the banner stuffit expander as you said, drug the windows .stix to it and it installed it. Now, when I went back to open Cigar Dave a new message came up which said apple didn't support, but windows media might, do you want to try? So, I did and although I was a few minutes late to listen to Cigar Dave, I am listening to streaming from that same station. So, for me, what you told Chrisophe did the trick. Thanks again for all your help.

  • My iPod touch cannot stream ANY media

As the title states, I am unable to stream any media to my iPod, whether that be through Safari, or 3rd party apps like mixcloud or netflix. My Wi-Fi connection is through the windows 7 virtual router, but that shouldn't be an issue because i can stream HD movies from my xbox with ease through that connection. What could be causing this issue?

Does it work when connect to another network?
If yes then that points to a problem with your network.
    You can try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Is there any method to remember the running subtitle and audio stream when navigating through menus?

    I have a language Menu named 'Setup' with 4 buttons 1.English  2.Spanish  3.Spanglish  4.Subtitle Off.
To reach this page you have to hit Setup button on Main Menu. The setup button takes to a sub-menu of Setup where I have a symbol of 'tick' at Subtitle Off indicating the state of the current subtitle stream. I have 3 more sub-menus with similar buttons but with 'tick' at different languages indicating the state of the current running/selected language, 2nd page has English with tick, 3rd page has Spanish with tick and 4th has Spanglish with tick. My client wants me to jump on the respective language ticked page when you hit the setup button on Main Menu. As far as I understand we cannot assign a code in Encore to a single button to read what subtitle stream is running.
Is there any method to remember the running stream when navigating through menus?
I have done this in Sonic Scenarist.
    Regards,
    A Gandhi

I think this was added in a "newer" version of Encore (meaning anywhere from CS4 up). In any event, it is available in Encore CS6.
There is a menu (not button) property that allows yoi9u to make the active subtitle track button the default (i.e. selected/highlight shows) just as you want.

  • Streaming Apple TV through a PVR?

Does anyone know if it is possible to stream Apple TV through a Bell PVR?
I have an older (not flat screen) TV that does not have a HDMI port but I do have a Bell PVR with an HDMI port.
Does anyone know if I can use Apple TV through the PVR and not directly through the TV?

Sorry, but no. I would have to guess that the Bell PVR only has 1 HDMI port. This would make it an output channel only and would not act as a converter between an Apple TV and your television.
Another other problem would be with rented content. This is because it would be encoded with  HDCP. This protection standard requires a viewing device that communicates with the source, and prohibits the recording of the content. This requires that the source (in this case the Apple TV) and the display be in physical connection, or through a device that supports HDCP (like a higher end switching receiver or input switcher).
Until you upgrade your television, I would hold off on an Apple TV.

  • Stream iTunes Media To A Wii

I don't know if this is where i should put this question but here it is. Is there a way to stream my media from iTunes to a Wii. I have tried 2. Wii Transfer and Media Center X. Wii Transfer works great but I would like to use something. I have the free version but it will not play audio in videos and puts "Demo." over photos. Media Center X does not work real well. It won't play the media. Is there a free program to do this? Even just to stream media from iTunes, or select media.

    Hi,
    This should work for you.

  • Controlling which Apple TV to play media through.

Hi, we are looking at purchasing two Apple TV's to be used in the same building. Is there a way of choosing which Apple TV to play the media through as both units will be using different devices at the same time?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You generally just control each Apple TV from it's own menu's, in just the same way as you would use 2 TV's. There won't be any confusion using 2 Apple TV's. Even if they were next to each other you could pair each remote with each and use them independently.

To enable a second display over AirPlay, you first need to be connected to the same network as your Apple TV. Next, open System Preferences > Displays, and select your Apple TV from the “AirPlay Display” drop-down menu.
Once you do this, your display may flash as the second display connection is acquired, and the Apple TV takes over as the second display. If the displays are mirrored, then you can correct this by opening the “Arrangement” tab in System Preferences > Displays, and ensuring that the “Mirror Displays” checkbox is unchecked.
In this same “Arrangement” tab, you can move the displays around in the pane to ensure that they're positioned correctly, relative to your physical space (usually side-by-side, or top-down). The primary display here is denoted here by the Menu bar on the display. The arrangement helps with being able to drag windows from one display to the next: if your secondary display is arranged to be to the right of your primary one, for example, you can drag things to it through the right side of your primarcy screen.

  • User Auth. for Live Streaming with Media Encoder 2.5 and FMSS

    Hi,
i am currently thinking of buying the Flash Media STREAMING
Server (~995 $) and in order to see if this is the right choice, i
also take a look at the Wowza Media Server for comparison.
I want to support Live Streaming from Events with Flash Media
Encoder 2.5 and for this i'll need a user authentification for
giving access to special publishing Users only. Wowza Media Server
supports a User Authentification by parsing the connecting URL,
witch is delivered by the Media Encoder on starting a Connection,
and therefor grants or denies access to the publishing function.
Only Users with the right Access Persmissions, which is written
trough a password and the onPublish Comand in the url, can publish
Live Streams. Everyone can watch the Live Stream, if no restriction
to the onConnect Command was made.
The Problem in this case is, i will need seperate Application
folders for every user who should be able to start a live stream.
This would be a horrible effort...

Is there a similar way to support authorisation for starting
publishing a LiveStream to the Flash Media Streaming Server, or do
i need the Flash Media Interactive Server?
How can i restrict access to users, who should not be able to
start a live stream on my FMSS?
    Thx for your help,
    Tobi

Unfortunately no, there isn't. I struggled with same issue
earlier, and we were forced to purcahse the Interactive edition. As
the 'Streaming' version only runs Adobe-signed apps, there is no
way to change things that happen within the onConnect handler.
Furthermore, guys at Adobe haven't provided any possibility for
even simple access control through configuration files for built-in
apps that come along with the Streaming Server edition.

  • Best settings for streaming in Media Encoder CS5?

I don't know much at all about video and streaming, but I'm working with some directors and I do a website that needs videos on it. I'm struggling to find out what to tell them to give me as far as what format to send me files that will work in a flash site (AS2) and a custom media player I have had built for it.
I've played some with Media Encoder which came with my CS5 Design Premium Package, but the only Format options I seem to have are H.264 and FLV/F4V. I think it's ok to have H.264 but I've also been told it should be a .mov file. I was thinking the presets available for something like Vimeo would work, but I don't know if that's ok or not since I'm sadly clueless. I'd love to know more, but I general stick to design work for good reason...
Anyone out there who can "dumb down" this process for me a little, and guide me through what settings are best or what to ask for from the directors themselves?

Streaming or downloading doesn't make much difference, it's just two different ways of offering videos on your site but each will eat up similar amounts of bandwidth. The only benefit to streaming is your video is less likely to be pirated and put up on YouTube by someone that doesn't have the right to do so.
As for the settings and the codec, that's going to be determined by the quality of video you desire to serve up on your site. If you want HD video that's going to be clear and crisp, then you need to shoot towards the higher end settings. If economy of size is critical, then you have to compress and reduce the file size as much as possible.
H.264 (MP4) and FLV are both going to produce about the same file compression. If you have a flash site, I would imagine that the Flash format would be most compatible, but I'm sure it can be made to work either way.
A third option is to host the videos on YouTube or Vimeo and embed the player into your web page. Again, you have to be careful about the terms of use, but YouTube is pretty open and long as you're not using licensed music. If you are, then Vimeo is a better choice. They don't unleash the music nazis every time you play Eminem in the background of your dog video.

  • Streaming flash media server to the world and not just your local network

hello, i have downloaded and installed flashe media server.....but i have som problems which are: i am on a network which is connected to the internet and i was able to get the ip of my pc using the comand prompt (i.e typing ...ipconfig/all....in the comand prompt window) ...i used this ip in my flash media encoder in place of "localhost" in the fms url, and i was able 2 connect fine ,i the copied my fms url to the osmf player and i generated my html code and put it in my webpage and everything did work fine, but the proble is that only the people who are on thesame network with me were able to view the video on the webpage wereas people in other countries could not view the video....... so please how can i be able to make my video acessable to the whole world ,because i work in a television company and they have asked me to undertake the task to stream thier broadcast online to the whole world........please i would like u to put me through the right things to do because have been having sleepless night on flash media server.....would be expecting a reply from anyone who can help me as quick as possible. thanks

    Hey Kristich,
Is the server that you have created behind some NAT, etc?
If you are using an IP of the form 10.x.x.x or 172.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x then these are private IPv4 address spaces and not public IPs(which is unique), and you wont be able access them from outside.

  • Streaming iTunes library through ps3

Imac 27 intel with 10.8. Have a LaCie cloud box plugged in to AirPort Extreme. Want to be able to stream and shuffle my entire iTunes library through the PS3.
It connected, able to stream music and Iwas able to shuffle each album but not entire library. When I selected the artist folder, able to shuffle those randomly. When I tried again later from that same folder, noticed the previously shuffled music, each song, was listed and the playback followed that list in order and would not shuffle.
This may not be the item I need, perhaps the wdc MyBook live would work better?
PS3 support not able to help much and LaCie suggested copying the library to a playlist on the PS3 and trying it that way, hopeful it might randomly shuffle the library.
Anyone have this issue with PS3 or the LaCie box? Any ideas or suggestions? Would the WDC work any differently? Told the Mac has to be on for Apple TV to work, which I don't want.
    Thanks.

You can move the itunes library to the TC.. use the normal apple instructions for moving the library.
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support
BUT.. 2. You cannot stream from the TC.. the TC is a dumb as a board hard disk in a router. No media extensions.. no clue whatsoever.
So this makes it just one more item in the network to slow you down.
You still need a computer running iTunes.. to stream to apple TV. And this is a problem because if you use wireless it will try to stream in both directions..
TC--Computer.. Computer--TC.. TC.. ATV. And that is unlikely to work very well.
So at least the link to the computer should be ethernet.
