Streaming Internet Content

I purchased Apple TV expecting that I could stream any Internet content to our HDTV. Specifically, content from an NHL Live Subscription so my husband would not need to view on the laptop but instead watch the games on our HDTV screen. I'm learning that this is likely not possible now, a huge disappointment. Does anyone know if this can be achieved. Any possible work arounds? Or am I buying a new device to make this happen.
So choked about the limitations of Apple TV.

  • Revised: can I stream internet content from a cell phone network to the apple tv?

So I am trying to stream internet content from my iphone (phone network) to the Apple TV. I currently do not have internet at my house. What I do have is a macbook pro, airport express, ipad (wifi only), and of course iphone and apple tv. So is there a way to configure these devices to somehow stream my phone content to my apple tv. As of now the only way to connect the iphone to the apple tv is through wifi; the bluetooth that apple tv supports is elementary and will not support this connection. When the iphone is on a wifi network it automatically tries to use it for internet content. So 1 option would have to be a work around for making the iphone use the cell phone network for pulling internet content and using the wifi to broadcast this content to the apple tv. Another option would be to connect the iphone with the macbook pro via bluetooth (somehow) and then mirror the macbook pro to the apple tv via the wifi network setup with the airport express. ANY IDEAS?

You wouldnt be able to to use both networks at the same time. Either need to connect the Apple TV to the cell network (which will require a lot of data and impact battery life) or get a home plan and broadcast over the local network (wifi)

  • How do i stream internet from my Mac to my TV?

Would like to view internet content on TV.  Is this possible and what kind of connection is required?

You may be able to stream some content but will need something like an AppleTV to do so. The best way to view Internet content on the TV is to set it up as a second monitor. If you are OK hooking it up as an external monitor let us know the type of connections on the TV and what iMac you own that way we can suggest the correct cables.

  • IPod speaker/dock that can wirelessly stream internet radio from our Apple TV?

Our Apple TV 2 is downstairs. I use it to listen to internet radio streams all day. I'd love a speaker system for upstairs that can dock and play iPods, but also stream internet radio from the Apple TV downstairs. Does such a product exist? TIA for any pointers.

Your church services presumably have a specific internet address which you view in a browser?
If so and you have a fairly new iMac you could start playback on the iMac in a browser and use Airplay Mirroring to send a 'copy' of what is on-screen to your TV using AppleTV to display it.  The same would apply to modern iPhones (4s and later) and newer iPads provided the phone can play them in a browser (maybe not if the stream id Flash based).
    AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
AppleTV does not have an internet browser.  It is primarily a device to play content from your local iTunes library or from iTunes store via the internet (purchases or rentals).  It does have certain 'channels' like YouTube, Netflix etc which you are probably not interested in.
AppleTV needs to be connected to the same network as the iMac.
If your iMac is too old for Airplay Mirroring, something like AirParrot might work in software.

Yeah, I know I can restore it, but I might as well go ahead and try. I just finished a backup for icloud and itunes to make sure, I'll go ahead and restore it and set it up as new and see how that works. Seems like I have no other options at this point, I'd still like to know what they did with the Download tab in itunes store, if they removed it or if I'm just overlooking it.

  • Is there a way to share internet content from my Macbook air to tv?

Is there a way to share internet content from my Macbook Air to my tv using apple tv?

It should appear. Are you using OS X 10.8.4 "Mountain Lion"? That and the presence of an AirPlay device on your LAN should be all that is required. Read the troubleshooting steps in Troubleshooting AirPlay Mirroring later in that same document.
Your router may be an obstacle. What is its model number? A newer model, or a firmware update for it may be required.

  • Apple TV Needs More Internet Content

I love my Apple TV, but the limited amount of Internet content is driving me crazy.  I thought HULU would help but the offerings there are not that much different than NETFLIX and who needs to pay for commercials?  I'm getting ready to buy a second Internet device (ROKU?) to reach what's available to the rest of the world (Amazon, PBS, current network and cable providers). What is everyone else using to access Internet content?

AppleTV, iPad, Mac Book Pro, iPhone.

  • How to force authenication to stream live content FMS Interactive Server on Linux

We purchased Flash Media Streaming Server Interactive edition in order to have the security featuers of not allowing unauthorized connections streaming live content to the server.
Is there a document with procedures that details how to make this happen, the allowedHTMLdomains.txt does not work when you place in IP ranges that you do not want connecting.
I need some help just to figure out a way to keep someoen from connecting to the server and not streaming live content.
Has anyone configured this in Linux because the documentation is mainly for Windows.
Any help/advice would be great since this seems to be a common problem for anyone who runs Linux.

The FMS server does not the livepkgr application as its default. There is no default application as such.
FMS server installer comes with few applications to make it easier to get started, the four applications live, vod , multicast and livepkgr , each one of these applications trying to give an easy way of implementing the different scenarios.
live and vod are the basic RTMP live and vod cases, while multicast gives a sample implementation for RTMFP and P2P cases, livepkgr is the sample for HDS / HLS cases using HTTP Dynamic Streaming and HTTP Live Streaming for iOS devices. None of these are default, and all of them can be made use of , depending on your scenario.
Each of these applications have the necessary files within its folder, a main.asc file that has the server side script which can include some business logic or authentication stuff (its not mandatory to have any of these files, that means, a blank folder would still /can still act as an application ! ). So, main.asc is specific to an application and it can contain the script to guide the behavior. None of these asc files are loaded by default, they are dependent on the application,
The application can be loaded on server start up or upon the first connection to it. So unless there is a specific activity to load it up, none of the applications (and their corresponding script files) are loaded on the server engine.
The applications, their script and other files are not specific to the interactive server, they are present and the functionality is same on all flavors of FMS and on both windows and linux.
main.far file is just the signed archive of main.asc to avoid any changes to be made to it (the licensing process on the streaming server to restrict unsigned applications to be loaded is the reason to make this change), and hence if you make changes to the main.far , the application will not work. But this does not mean that you cannot make any changes. You can simply delete the far file and copy the main.asc (and edit it ,if needed) from the samples folder to make the applications work. You can also make copies of the applications.
The documentation does not cover linux because there is no difference at all from windows, and what's true for windows should be the same for linux as well , in terms of its functionality.
By default, FMS comes with only one virtual host : _default_VHost. I am not sure where you seeing the three virtual hosts.
What query string you want to make work on Linux ? Can you please clairfy.
I hope the information above clarifies some of your queries. Thank you !

  • Streaming internet: how to stop random station switching?

    Hello -
Recently started running iTunes 11.1.5(5) under Mavericks 10.9.2. When listening to streaming internet (not iTunes radio), iTunes will not stay locked on to my desired station. Instead, it randomly moves the streaming source down through the list of available (classical) stations. Weird.
If anyone else has had this issue and know of a workaround, I'd appreciate learning about it. Thanks.

I want to turn off streaming on one ATV.
If it is a primary library that you no longer wish to stream, select 'Show only the synced items on my Apple tv' from the summary tab in itunes when the Apple tv is selected in the device menu.
If it is a secondary library ctrl-click/right-click on the Apple tv in the device list and choose 'turn off streaming' from the contextual menu that appears.

this issue just arose over the last month or so and no changes have been made to my bandwidth.
    Except for the following possibiblites:
Your bandwidth might be being throttled by your internet provider.
Your internet may have a fault.
Perhaps your Wi-Fi security has been breached by someone nearby.
Perhaps the other services (Grooveshark and Spotify) use a lower bandwith (I don't know).
For numbers 1 & 2, try a speed check to see if your internet connection is as fast as it's supposed to be.
For number 3, change your password to your Wi-Fi.
For number 4, check the Bit Rate of each stream.
On the other hand, if this new information that you added is fact ( it actually occurs if I even listen to music from my iTunes library, not just internet radio ), then perhaps iTunes is at fault and the best fix may be to repair iTunes.
To repair iTunes, download the iTunes installer and when you run it, use the Repair option.

  • How to get multitasking with streaming Internet Ra...

    Hi,
I have two questions about streaming internet radio. (Yes, it's working fine when you only do this)
    1) How can I continue streaming internet radio when I will do something else with the phone, ie look in the calender. Allways when I do this the streaming (Realplayer) stops.
    2) How can I switch on key lock without stoping streaming?

    Hello there:
When you go up to your Airport signal menu, located on your menu bar on the right side, it will list the available hotspots that are within wireless range. Some indeed are free. Select it, go to your browser and you are good to go. Some DO require subscription to access. Generally what happens with these is that you select the network, and then your browser will take you to a registraton page. You can then pick an access plan and pay with a credit card. The registration page will tell you what locations carry that plan. For example, there is one company that runs hot spots in all the major airports... you subscribe, and then whenever you are in an airport, you can access the web.

  • Listen to streaming internet using N97 mini over A...

I know that the CK-600 kit will play your music from the N97 onto a car stereo via the bluetooth and into normal aux in cables in a car stereo...
But is it possible to use the N97 to stream internet radio using the phone's 3G connection and onto the car stereo via A2DP?
My question is basically whether the Nokia can broadcast internet "audio out" in the same way that is does on the music player on the phone... and be used as an internet radio on the go..
    Thanks for help

    Hi
Not sure which internet stations you want to listen to on the move but just tried the \Absolute app and the Mobbler app off Ovi and that works ok.  It would be the 3g Connection that would be the problem I imagine and how clear you want the music.
    Hope this helps
