Streaming is EXTREMELY slow yet YouTube works fine.

I have a 160gb AppleTV that is sync'ed with a PC and streams from my iMac. My iTunes library on the iMac is 400gb+ stored on a USB external drive.
When I originally configured streaming from my shiny new iMac you could browse the content with no issue but when you chose a video the blue bar at the bottom showing download progress crawled along at a VERY slow rate - so slow that I never actually saw anything.
After a few days this mysteriously fixed itself. In the last few days this issue has returned. Any ideas anyone?
Some other info:
- YouTube works fine suggesting the network connection is fine (802.11g from a Cisco 1131 access point)
- iMac has static IP address, Apple TV is DHCP supplied
- Editing metadata info in iTunes takes over a minute to complete (I guess because of my extensive video collection)
- I have upgraded very recently to iTunes 7.6

First, to isolate the problem download the free app speedtest.net to see if it affects the device or the specific apps.
Does this happen on all networks, or only on your home network? Try rebooting your router if this only occurs on your home network. After that, try changing the channel number on the router in case it is interference from other nearby routers. (Rebooting some newer routers will initiate an automatic search for the best channel).
If it happens on all networks go to Settings/General/Reset and tap Reset network settings. This will require reëntering WiFi passwords, but will not result in any data loss.
Let us know if any of these help.

  • 1415 fnw printer wireless connection extremely slow or not working with OS X, works with windows

The wireless connection to the printer is either extremely slow or not working at all on OS X Yosemite.  It shows up in the list of printers in Bonjour in Safari, and I can connect to parts of the web interface if I wait a very long time.  However, I cannot add the printer as a new printer in System Preferences even though the printer shows up.
I have upgraded to the latest firmware.  The WiFi indicator on the printer is on, "green", and it has a reserved IP showing up in my router (ComCast).  It seems that Windows machines can printer to the printer wirelessly without a problem.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello @sscotti,
I would like to assist you today with installing your wireless HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer on your Mac OS X 10.10 Computer. Now you indicate in your post that this printer works fine with Windows computers, and you are able to 'see' the Bonjour printer on your Mac. Therefore, the issue that you are experiencing is not network related. Rather, I do believe that you are experiencing a driver conflict on your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. Can I please have you run the steps below to resolve this issue.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
First, I'm going to have you 'clean up' your Mac OS X 10.10 computer to verify that any trace of your Laserjet printer is gone so we have a nice clean slate to work with. Please click here and when the website opens select the drop down for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' as the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.10. Run the appropriate uninstall steps for the method in which you originally tried to install your printer: Apple Updates, or the HP Driver download.
Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
Please click here to download the appropriate Mac OS X 10.10 drivers for your HP Laserjet printer.
Once the website opens select the 'download' button on the top left
Once the download has completed, please follow the onscreen steps to reinstall your printer.
Once the reinstall is complete, test the print and scan functions to ensure that your printer is functioning as per normal.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should you still be experiencing issues there are additional steps I can have you run through. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

iTunes download is extremely slow or not working, am I the only one experiencing this, iTunes download is extremely slow or not working, am I the only one experiencing this?

I do not have a solution, just the same complaint.  ***!  !    I just used the iTunes store 2 weeks ago and now, after reviewing everything they asked for including ID/Pass/ Account Info etc.  I can't even get into the store.  I have tried asking at the Mac store and it has all been to no avail.  I was perfectly happy with iTunes before all of this ********... seriously what is the issue with iTunes?  They ask me to upload a new version (with no system specs anywhere that I can find on the page)  and then say it can't utilized because of system inadequacy.  It is exceedingly frustrating.

  • Has anyone got photostream to upload from a pc yet?  Works fine between my MacBookPro and iMac and TO my PC's but not FROM my PC's

Has anyone got photostream to upload from a pc yet?  Works fine between my MacBookPro and iMac and TO my PC's but not FROM my PC's

Same here.  Seems to download great, but upload is a problem.  Searched for some type of file size / type restriction, but the help pages do not seem to be in place yet.

  • My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with the macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network though. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with two Macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network and it's telling me I'm connected but Safari says I'm not connected to the internet. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

Thank you, I've tried the support tips (resetting the network, checking security settings, etc.) and rebooting the network devices several times to no avail. I've actually been working on this for several days (when I can afford to have the network down).
What I have to determine is what has changed in the setup...from when it WAS working just fine with all devices.

  • When I try to play youtube video I get the message of blocked plug-in, and I can not play video using Safari. (Youtube works fine with google chrome) I tried installing flash player HTML5 etc... but still no difference.

I just installed OSX Mountian Lion, and ever since then I can not play youtube video's. I get the message of 'Blocked Plug-in' in the youtube screen. I have tried installing Adobe Flash Player. HTML 5, also tried enabling/disabling java, but nothing worked out. Is there any way I can play youtbe vieos on Safar. (It works fine with Google Chrmoe, only safari has problem)

If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
Try uninstalling the currently installled Flash plugin (required for most YouTube content) then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
From your Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches

  • Can't see video one the web,  YouTube works fine.

    HI,
Using Safari I can't see video, In CNN I get the message that Apple restrict the use of Flash Player, but in other sites, which do not use Flash player I can't see the video as well, for example- http://harim.tv/default.asp?categoryid=0&videoid=317&srchq=&page=1 . The same problem in different pages having video attached, in the window of the video there is a cube shape.
Is there an add-on to Safari that has to be installed to make it working?
I would like to add, YouTube is working fine.
    Thanks in advance
    Eli

    Hi
What Video Codec are Your material formatted as ?
And the problematic Video sequence - Same Video Codec ?
Open each original movie sequense in QuickTime player
then press cmd+I (or open Inspector) and read
    - Video formatted as : nnnnnnnnnnnnn
    - Frames per second : YY.yy
What does they say for the material that works - AND for the movie that are troublesome ?

  • Kernel panic upon mounting local filesystems, yet Windows works fine

I recently got a free MacBook from Apple to replace my dying iBook G4 of almost 3 years. It's been working great. Got everything running great, Boot Camp'd it, and have enjoyed using it with both OSes.
Well, that is until a few days ago. My friend wanted to try out Parallels, so I let him boot up to it. It started acting slow (running off battery power, reduced CPU usage) so he forced a shutdown on it. Ever since then, OS X kernel panics on boot. Going into Safe Boot resulted in a kernel panic. Going into verbose mode reveals it panicking as it mounts the local filesystems (occasionally with a message about the Bluetooth idle timer stopping sandwiched between the mounting message and the panic message) Booted into single-user mode, ran a fsck, and it came up fine. Tried to boot from the bundled install DVD, but it only results in a kernel panic as well. Amazingly, through all of this, the Windows partition still works fine. I can also still use the Mac partition from Windows using MacDrive without a problem.
So, has the ghost of Bill Gates tried to overtake my MacBook, or have the little gnomes in there decided to mess with me? I'm pretty reluctant to say that it's the HD being corrupt, because as I mentioned before, the drive still works fine. All the hardware works fine under Windows as well.
    Any help is appreciated.
Oh, and a snippet from the panic screen: (Didn't take the whole thing down, and I don't have a log to copy the text out of, seeing as it can't mount the drive to write the log to it)
    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x001A31CE): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 1, Type 14=page fault)
Sounds pretty typical for this sort of problem.

My workaround appears to have been successful.
    1. Start MacBook in FireWire Target Disk Mode.
    2. Make an image of the OS X partition on the host computer using Disk Utility.
    3. Erase and zero the OS X partition using Disk utility
    4. Restore the OS X Partition using Disk utility.
I previously tried zapping PRAM and following the other Apple provided techniques for trying to get the system to boot, so thos changes might also have been important, though I doubt it.
The key piece of information to determine whether this fix is for you is the kernel panic while attempting to mount you disk in single-suer mode. If the MacBook gives a kernel panic identical to the one listed by the OP. The steps above appear to be a valid fix for such a problem.

  • [NeverMind] Pacman Can't Resolve Domain Names, Yet Internet Works Fine

I've had my Arch box off for over a month due to getting my motherboard replaced. I finally got the board in yesterday and got everything hooked up, then went to go upgrade my system but pacman says that it can't resolve any addresses, yet I can browse the web and ping the repos just fine. What am I missing here?
    [bran@ra ~]$ sudo pacman -Syyu
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'multilib.db' from mirror.us.leaseweb.net : Resolving timed out after 10519 milliseconds
error: failed retrieving file 'multilib.db' from mirror.nl.leaseweb.net : Resolving timed out after 10519 milliseconds
    [bran@ra ~]$ ping mirror.us.leaseweb.net
    PING mirror.us.leaseweb.net (108.59.10.97) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from mirror.us.leaseweb.net (108.59.10.97): icmp_seq=1 ttl=51 time=32.6 ms
    64 bytes from mirror.us.leaseweb.net (108.59.10.97): icmp_seq=2 ttl=51 time=33.7 ms
    64 bytes from mirror.us.leaseweb.net (108.59.10.97): icmp_seq=3 ttl=51 time=32.0 ms
I can even go to the site and browse through the repo so everything is obviously up. I just put the IP of the US mirror in my mirrorlist and it works fine so something is definitely up with pacman and DNS.

I switched from my Linksys E3000 to a WRT54G2 since I bricked the E3000 trying to upgrade Tomato, it may be salvageable. The 54G2 didn't have any DNS addresses set but I added in Google's and it may have worked, I forget since I did a 30/30/30 wipe on it and had my pc directly connected to the cable modem.

  • Adobe 9 Pro Printing slow, Reader 9 works fine

I have a user who is having an odd problem.  If she tries printing a PDF from Adobe Reader 9 to a network printer, it works fine.  However, if she uses Adobe Acrobat 9, it takes forever, and often times out.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,

I'm not exactly sure what that means. For some reason you are forced to have both? Not sure how anyone can force you to install conflicting software.

  • IOS 8 AirPrint Bug: Email printing is slow. iOS 7 works fine.

I have been troubleshooting the AirPrint bug for several days and could not find a solution for this. Whenever I print an email (even an almost blank email), it takes about 25 - 30 seconds before the print job is sent to the printer, after that the printer start printing. This long delay happens on iOS 8.1 and iOS 8.1.1. But on iOS 7.1.1, it works fine and take 2-3 seconds before the printer start printing. I have tried multiple iOS devices such as iPad Air, iPhone 5, iPod Touch to reach the conclusions.
Email printing is fine if I use a 3rd party Email App such as "Dropbox Mailbox" on iOS 8.1, 8.1.1.
Email attachment (PPT, Excel, pdf) printing from Apple's email client also works fine: AirPrint sends the print job to the printer quickly in 2-3 seconds, then the printer starts to print. Printing Apple Map and other documents from other Apps also works this fast.
The only problem only exists in Apple's email client when print emails on iOS 8.1 & iOS 8.1.1. Can you please fix the problem ASAP? Thanks.

    Hi ,
Did you happen to resolve this issue.  Testing with email the delay we see is 30-40 seconds before any data is sent to the server. If we print images ,notes or PDFs it  reaches the printer quickly .  Also tested this with IOS 7.x and the issue is gone for email

  • Cannot connect with extreme, yet Express works fine

I just moved into a loft that has built in high-speed internet. Before unpacking I used my Airport Extreme (a wonderful product btw;) and had no problems. Tried out my Airport Extreme but it only connects sporadically, for short periods, and only after multiple bouts of "shut everything down and bring it back up again".
    Specifically:
    - under the network connection assistant thing all lights are green up to, but not including, "Internet" or beyond (typically)
    - pages look like they are preparing to load but no progress is made
    - the loft has a Linsys router (called a workgroup switch)
Now while the Extreme was having difficulty I removed the cable and popped it into the Express, VIOLA! it works seamlessly every time.
Any suggestions and what to do?
Powermac G4 - Dual 1.0 & iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   AP Extreme and Express, Linsys router

Sorry, in the first paragraph I meant to say I connected to my Airport EXPRESS at first and it work without a hitch transmitting the internet signal from the linksys router to my laptop. It is my darn AP Extreme Base Station that is giving all the problems... What's up with that?
Also, when I plug the router into the WAN and computer into LAN (in the base station) the Airport Utility gives me a warning that an Ehternet connection is in the LAN port and I should switch my Internet connection to the WAN port. IT IS IN THE WAN PORT! OMG, this is getting frustrating....

  • Why does the HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plusw sometimes print only blank pages yet sometimes works fine?

The subject line pretty much explains it.  Sometimes I can't print at all, just getting sheet after sheet of blank pages from the printer, even if I tell the printer to cancel printing.
    Sometimes it works just fine.
Today was one of the blank page days.  Help!
    Thanks!

Let's start by resetting the printer.  Turn it off, hold the # and 6 keys while and a bit after turning it back on.
What router brand/model are you using?  What operating system on your computer?

  • OS X 10.8 time machine extremely slow, then stops working

after upgrading to Mountain Lion yesterday, I decided to erase & reformated my external HD to use with Time Machine in order to start fresh.  It is the same HD I've used for Time Maching backups for the past 2 years and has worked flawlessly.  However, when I started the Time Machine backup, it was painfully slow indicating that it was going to take 37 days to backup by 49 GB.  I thought it might pickup speed after a while, but instead it just stopped working, displaying the message something to the effect that "no time machine drive was attached".
Anyone else having issues with Time Machine backups under Mountain Lion?  Any suggestions"
    Thanks.

  • Why Firefox netspeed is extremely slow, other browsers work well.

Firefox incoming netspeed is slow, only 1-4 Mb, should be 24Mb without loss.
All other browser shows 18-20 Mb.
Uninstall and reintall does not solve the problem, done several times.
F-Secure have been driven several times, no help.
    F-Secure setup also checked.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
    See:

Try to boot the computer in Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works better.
