Streaming iTunes from Mac to Mac

First, a Happy New Year to you all!
I'm not sure if this is asked before, I couln't find a post. This is the thing: One of my favorite things to do on my Mac is to stream music from an iMac to my Airport Express with connected speakers. Now I wonder if it is also possible to stream my music to other Macs in my house, preferably without any additional software than iTunes.
Thanks in advance for your response.
Best regards,
Corné.

From the iTunes Help File:
"Sharing your iTunes library across computers
If your computer is connected to other computers over a local network, you can share items in your library and playlists with up to five of those computers (in the same subnet).
To share your library with other computers:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Sharing, and select “Share my library on my local network.”
Select the items you want to share.
To require users to enter a password before they can see your shared items, select “Require password” and enter a password.
For others to see your shared items, your computer must be on and iTunes must be open.
If you choose to share your entire library, its name appears in the iTunes window (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries. To change the name others see, choose iTunes > Preferences, click General, and type a new name in the Library Name field.
You can share movies; MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, and AAC files; and radio station links; you can’t share programs purchased from Audible.com or QuickTime sound files.
Sharing is intended for personal use only."
Hope this works for you. I thought you were supposed to be making Oliebollen today, not playing with computers.

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

  • Stream iTunes from Mac to iPhone

    Hi
I want to stream iTunes via Wi-fi from my Mac to my iPhone and have both playing at the same time, so that I can have music playing via the Mac in one room and that same music playing simultaneously on my phone in another.
I have set up Home Sharing and can stream from my Mac to my iPhone but I want both playing at the same time. I don't have Airport Express, so I'm gusseing AirPlay isn't an option.
    Hope someone can help!

  • Streaming itunes from iOS device to mac computer's speaker

I acquired a good Logitech laptop speaker and wonder how I can stream itunes music wirelessly from my ipod touch to my MacBook Pro. There is lots of software doing it the other way round.

In case you're wondering where the File menu is (at least in the Windows version), you have to press Alt to access it; not sure why it's hidden in that way.

  • Streaming music from iPhone to Mac?

Hey guys, I'm currently using a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, the late 2013 version and also the iPhone 6, 64GB. I recently found out that I could play music from my computer but controlling it with my phone. It's called streaming music, I guess? I'm not too sure. I've been trying to figure out how to do that for the past few weeks and I've been unable to do that and I'd like to know how to do it cause I'd love to stream music from my phone but playing from my Mac.
I could really use some help with this.

simple really. You get a box (that's the Apple tv), You plug it into the wall, and then into the tv set. You run setup, it finds your network, then you get out either your Macbook pro, mac pro, iPhone or whatever else has Airplay built in (it's under iTunes--I don't know if you can share all of your music or control it, but I know it's there). You find something you want to stream to the Apple tv,  make sure airplay is on  , you click play on it, and it shows up on the tv.  It's  $70.  Reflector or something like that, which lets you stream from your iphone to your Mac, is around $15.  XBMC should be free (I just found out that you have to jailbreak your iphone first), so there's that.  Along with Reflector, there's AirServer and X-Mirage. You also have to turn mirroring on. I've also found out it works with Airport express. I think Apple designed Airplay to work with Apple tv and airport expres only, so I'd recommend going with Reflector, AirServer or X-Mirage, all of which should do the job okay

  • Moving iTunes from PC to Mac with another itunes already on it!

I have a click wheel ipod (approx 2 years old) and it has died on me. I'm going to get a new ipod but I want to know how I move my itunes from my PC to my boyfriend's Mac. He already has itunes (and a photo ipod) on his mac but we want to dedicate his computer to music and have both of our ipods (his current one and my new one) associated with his mac.
How do I do this without losing either one of our itunes libraries?
Would really appreciate some help if someone can.
    Thanks

  • Moving iTunes From PC to Mac keeping play counts etc.

I am trying to move my iTunes from a PC ( XP ) to a Mac ( OS X ). I have moved the entire iTunes folder which contains the XML file and music folder to the mac using an external hard drive. The PC was consolidated before the copy. On the Mac I found and replaced the PC file location to Mac file location (text editor). I then corrupted the iTunes Library.itl ( I believe that was the file). I Then dragged the edited XML file into iTunes without opening it (dragged it over the icon on the dock). It then started to rebuild the library. I thought i worked great. Which it did.
Problem: I am missing about 400 out of 3000 songs. There is no reference in the Mac iTunes XML. The Library is 32GB. I have all the movies, which is a large chunk of that. It is very very important that i keep the data related to those song ( play counts, ratings... ).
The songs are in the iTunes Music folder

  • Moving iTunes from PC to Mac

I just bought a new used iMac and am trying to move my iTunes from my PC to the Mac. I followed precisely the Apple Support directions on using my iPod to move the iTunes folder from my PC to the Mac. The folder is where it is supposed to be on the Mac but the iTunes software does not list the songs.

Choose Consolidate Library from the Advanced menu or the Library section of the File menu in iTunes, find the iTunes library location from the iTunes preferences, and move the folder to the new computer using any method necessary, such as an external drive, optical disks, or a network connection.

  • Moving iTunes from PC to Mac OSX possible?

    Hi,
My friend has bought a new Mac with OSX 10.5 and wants me to move his iTunes from his PC to Mac, now I can get all the music copied over as I have set the network up and can browse to both computers. iTunes is installed on the Mac but empty, what is the next step? On the PC I usually just hold down the shift key and load it and tell iTunes where my music is.

  • Moving iTunes from PC to Mac - problem...

When moving my iTunes folder from PC to Mac (via hard drive), the following error message appears: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items". Anyone come across this before?

My feeling is there isn't much you can do about it since standard things such as changing file permissions won't work if you can't write to the drive.  You could try formatting the drive to FAT so both the PC and Mac can use it (as long as you don't have any huge files).  Alternatively, if you have a smaller flash drive formatted FAT you can move the library in groups of folders as long as you make sure it all goes back together properly again.
Here's my standard post on moving libraries:
If you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the links above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick answer above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.

  • Switching iTunes from PC to Mac

I copied my iTunes Library.itl file to my Mac's iTunes folder and deleted the other files in that were in that folder. I had been saving all my songs and movies to an external hard drive, so I just unplugged my external drive from the PC and plugged it into the Mac. (Since then, the Mac can read the hard drive, but if I try to move my external drive back to the PC, the PC can't find it. But that's another story.) At first nothing happened when I turned on iTunes. None of my old playlists popped out. I kept trying though by signing into iTunes and connecting (but not syncing) my iPhone. Then this window started popping up saying "The iTunes Library locked, on a locked disk or you do not have written permission for this file." I tried playing with it again by copying the .itl file on a disk from my old PC and replacing the file I had copied into the iTunes folder on the Mac, but the window keeps popping up. The only way I can start iTunes is by deleting that file. Please help. All I want to do is transfer my old songs, movies, and playlists to my iMac.

    Hi BMcCrae,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If all of your devices were tied to the same Apple ID account before switching from the PC to the iMac, you do not need to create a new iTunes Store account.
The articles below will explain how to sign out of the iTunes Store account and sign in with the Apple ID you've been using.
