Streaming iTunes slowing internet browsing?

I'm using an iMac (10.4) and have both Airport & Extreme - I work wirelessly and print wirelessly. I stream my iTunes to my stereo also.
Recently I've noticed that internet browsing is taking forever, it seems to be more when I'm using iTunes over the stereo - not over the built in speakers.
It gets to the point where I have to go through network diagnostics & follow that through before it 'finds' the internet again.
For the record I also have a PC which works wirelessly at the same time & is completely fine.
To say it's irritating is putting it mildly.
Any ideas? I presume the PC isn't slowing things down. Also, sometimes I lose the wireless stereo connection & have to close iTunes & restart it.

Connect your HiFi to an Apple AirPort Express base station that is set up as part of your wireless network. You can then play music from iTunes to the HiFi. Without knowing more about your HiFi it is hard to say more. See [Apple's web page|http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/features/airtunes.html] on the subject.
Best of luck.

  • Super-slow internet browsing on brand-new iMac

I posted this somewhere else and got told to post it here - so here goes:
I just bought my iMac on Valentine's Day. I'm brand new to the world of Mac, and very excited!
However - I'm a little upset because it is taking FOREVER for websites to load on Safari - sometimes up to a full minute for a page to load entirely. Sometimes, it simply times out! My internet access is through broadband service provided by my cable company; all computers in the house (including my PC laptop) are wirelessly connected. No problems with any of them BUT the iMac. Also, all other applications on the iMac run very fast indeed.
I really don't think that at $1,500, internet browsing should be this slow on an iMac right out of the box!!! Is there anything I can do? Is this a known problem with a known fix? Or should I just take it back and exchange it? (and migrate all my old files AGAIN!)
Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

Try the command under the Safari menu in Safari to +Reset Safari+. I would select all the reset options.
If that does not help, try downloading another browser as a test to see if this is a general problem or something specific to Safari.
    You can try

  • Super Slow Internet Browsing with Airport or LAN and networking activities.

The people at AppleCare are awesome and way polite. But I am a new Mac user and still in my 90 day apple care plan and have not been able to convince anyone that my internet connection on my MacBook is Super Slow. I have quantified it (350k - 550k download and 150k - 250k upload depending on my location), whereas at work right next to my older PC (which I am still using to go on line with since it is more like 3-5mb download) and my Desk Top PC and My Laptop PC are both more than three times faster for internet browsing and network transfers. The Airport on my MacBook seems to be faster than using the Ethernet cable (which I find weird), but they are both more than three times slower than my PC's no matter where I am working.
Which brings me to my next issue, simply changing channels on the router is not the solution because while I can do that on my router at home or at my office. I can not walk into Starbucks or into the school library or my friends houses and ask them all to "fix" their routers for me. These MacBooks need to get fixed.
This is frustrating and I am still waiting for a real solution.
~~Eddie Pankow~~ Please contact me: Eddie at Pankow3 dot net
P.S. - I'm beginning to resent buying my MacBook Pro

I can post the info you request below, but as I said before, my connection is not dropping, and the problem is not only with Airport. I have an old PC running a 56K modem at home that is faster than my MBP whether I am using Airport or if I connect through my LAN...

  • Slow internet browsing

    Hi,
Over past couple of months, the internet browsing speed has been fluctuating in the sense that speed drops suddenly for 1 min or so and then back up. I am saying this from the fact that during this time if I open website then the cursor just keeps spinning. Afterwards I keep hitting refresh for sometime and then the website opens instantaneously.
Now this behavior is taking place both during working in my home and office. My home & office have different ISP service and routers. Hence any issues related to them can be ruled out, otherwise atleast in one place, home or office it would have worked ok.
I am using a MacBook Pro 2011 edition with OS 10.6.7. Please provide a solution.
    Thanks,
    Pronojit

Deleting Facebook and twitter will not increase your Browsing spped so no need to delete those native apps. From your region many user constantly complained about the same issue, So you have to call your Wireless Service Provider 8ta to know if they have any problem with there Network.

  • Airport Extreme streaming iTunes without Internet

    Hello.
I no longer have Internet access in my home. I do still have a MacBook Pro streaming 2TB of iTunes media through an AirPort Extreme to two AppleTV's, and 5 iPhones. Music, movies, and TV shows are slow to load since the loss of the introwebs.
I have read about switching to "Bridge Mode" in airport utility but am not sure what this would do other than possibly allow my iPhones to simultaneously connect to my network and have 3G access.
Any ideas on how to speed up the streaming of content?
Your sage advice is greatly appreciated.

I no longer have Internet access in my home. I do still have a MacBook Pro streaming 2TB of iTunes media through an AirPort Extreme to two AppleTV's, and 5 iPhones. Music, movies, and TV shows are slow to load since the loss of the introwebs.
Just so I understand correctly, are you saying since you no longer have Internet access, the overall streaming performance on your local wireless network has decreased? If so, Internet streaming and local network streaming are not directly related and, whether or not, you have Internet access should not matter.
Without Internet access, the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) would not get a Public IP address, but it would have a Private IP address of 10.0.1.1 ... and it would still be providing wireless clients connected to it with Private IP addresses in the 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.200 range.
Please compare your AEBSn's settings with the following to see if making any of the changes will help with your local network streaming performance:
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name: <enter a desired Network Name or SSID>
Radio Mode: <unless you have non-"n" clients that you need your network to support, I would suggest setting this to "802.11n only (5 GHz) - 802.11n only (2.4 GHz)>
    Channel: Automatic
    Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
    Internet > Internet Connection
    Connect Using: Ethernet
Connection Sharing: Distribute a range of IP addresses
    Internet > TCP/IP
    Configure IPv4: Manually
    IP Address: 10.0.1.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router Address: 10.0.1.1
    DNS Server(s): <leave blank>
    Domain Name: <leave blank>
    Internet > DHCP
DHCP Beginning Address: <leave default or change to a desired starting address>
DHCP Ending Address: <leave default or change to a desired ending address>
    Advanced > Logging & Statistics
    Allow SNMP (unchecked)
Your AEBSn will still report at least three errors: 1) Configuration of WAN, 2) SNMP over WAN, and 3) Double NAT. These can all be safely ignored (by disabling them in the AirPort Utility) to stop the AEBSn's status light from flashing amber in this configuration.

  • Nokia 5800: Slow Internet Browser

I recently bought a Nokia 5800 XM, and I was happily using all it's applications perfectly. Suddenly, for no apparant reason, the in built web browser became awfully slow. I have no applications running in the background, I am definatly connected to Wi-Fi, even though the problem still occurs on 3G aswell. I can connect to the internet perfectly using Ovi Store, and Music Store. It's just for some reason, the in-built web browser alone has gone painfully slow, so slow in fact, that it quits the application and returns me the home screen! I have tried restoring to factory settings, reinstalling my phone software using Nokia PC Suite, I even uninstalled all the applications using the application manager, but none of them work. I use Opera Mobile and it works a treat, but the in built browser is better, and is the default one for hyperlinks etc. I would like to know how to find the problem, just to clarify, I am having no problems at all with any other of the applications...

Hi, you can go into options on windows live and disable automatic start up in settings/connection.In web Browser, once your homescreen opens, select Options in bottom left hand corner, select clear privacy data, all and accept. The privacy data builds up and stores on C, which reduces memory and slows phone down.To see what systems are running get Best Taskman from Ovi Store, you can see all running processes and control them. And finally, I don't use nokia email, just set up my Hotmail account using standard settings when setting up email, and check it 3/4 times a day. Try this.
    Good Luck
PS if problem persists the hard reset is just about a cure all, but requires a bit of work ( use User Search, top of page ,if you need it LOADS of posts)

  • Slow internet / browser after MacOS X 10.6.3

I experience slow/partial web browsing after upgrading from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3 last night 3/29
Some web sites without much graphics will work fine and fast (e.g., google.com, yahoo mail, wikipedia, outlook web access from work), but others will start loading but never complete loading (e.g., cnn.com, moviefone.com, ebay.com are loading forever)
    - This happens on both Safari 4.0.5 and latest FireFox 3.6.2.
    - This happens whether wired or wireless
    - I have shutdown several times, recycled both cable modem and wireless router, emptied Safari Cache, not to avail.
Any similar experience? Please help. Thanks, Lyteck
    Macbook Pro 17 Unibody (Early 2009) 2.93GHz 4GB 320GB (7200rpm)

    Here's what I know:
I've been working with TimeWarner's Tier 3+ support (as well as Brien and Phil with TW's Social Media Team) to get to the bottom of this *_for days now_*...
Early on, I identified a "hop" in TimeWarner's NYC network routing that seemed to be the culprit. Earlier tonight, I ran some additional tests with one of their network guys that lends more weight to that. There was apparently some question at to whether that was related to the 10.6.3 update, but I think we were able to rule that out.
PC-based pinging/traceroutes showed the same issue although -- and this is just my anecdotal experience -- I.E. seemed to still be a little snappier. (This may be a sign of the apocalypse or something.... )
FWIW -- it seems to be a NYC-wide problem. Been in touch with many people on Twitter who are definitely frustrated as well.
If I find out more, I'll post it at Veritrope.com and/or back here.
    Kind Regards,
    Justin

  • Slow Internet browser, How I fixed it.

While browsing with Safari and Firefox I would have to wait 30 or 40 seconds for the page to start downloading. I found this on a web page (Sorry, I didn't save the URL) that described how to reset networking (Read all the way to the end as my solution is somewhat different):
    1. Quit the System Preferences application, if it is running.
    2. Launch the Terminal application (found in /Applications/Utilities/).
    3. Type sudo -s and press Return
    4. Enter the password for the current user profile (NOT the root password).
    5. Type cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and press Return (note case sensitivity).
    6. Type mv preferences.plist preferences.plist.old and press Return.
    7. Launch the System Preferences application and check the Network pane.  All Locations and PPP / LAN configurations should have been reset to OS default.
NOTE: This procedure can be reversed by using the mv command again to rename the preferences.plist.old file back to preferences.plist
Instead of performing the above steps, I sent my preferences.plist to the Trash (You need to authenticate) then I got the preferences.plist from a Mac with a recently installed Leopard (or one that didn't have problems with slow browsing), and copied it over to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration in the slow Mac. Doing it my way helped me to preserve the 'Automatic' Location in the Network Preference Pane.
    Good Luck!

    Hey Nick,
The first thing I would check is to make sure your headphones are plugged all the way in.  It may require an extra amount of force to get them to click and pop all the way in.
If that isn't the case, try a hard reset of your iPod.  How you do that depends on what model iPod you have.  See your iPod's User Guide for more assistance, or use this page to help locate your model and then troubleshoot your iPod from there.

  • Slow internet browsing on my MBA

Since weeks my 2012 MBA is loading pages and images very slowly on internet (I use Chrome but Safari and Firefox are not better). I tried to clear all caches, cookies, unused extensions/applications and remove one of the flash in my plugins, changing internet channel no results. My 2009 iMac has no problem and my iPhone 4 is loading pages faster than my MBA. When I used Firefox on Windows 8 with VMware Fusion it is much faster too.
    Help please?

         Power cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.

  • Slow Internet Speed after Leopard

I'm having a funny problem since the installation of Leopard and that is very slow internet browsing speed. But its not as simple as it sounds. I have another Windows PC on the same network; when its on mac internet speed is slow, when Windows PC is off the Mac internet speed if fast and normal.
I'm not alone in this problem. I read similar problems on Apple Gazette after installing Leopard. Any suggestions?

Had to search for it. I'm having the same problem as you see by my post in this forum. I hope this works for me. I also happen to be in South Carolina. Small world.

  • Slow Internet in Snow Leopard 10.6.8

This post is to express my frustration with the recent updates to snow leopard for OS Lion upgrade compatibility.
Now, many web pages I browse through my iMac take forever to load. This issue was not present in previous updates.
Already tried lots of tricks suggested by many of you (thank you to all - very good people) without success (permissions repair, preferences verify, cleaning caches, IPV6 off, google dns servers, dns repair, dns flush cache, ethernet on the top order, disabling router`s firewall, trashing apple.alf.plist etc, etc,).
I´m sure this is an Apple issue and I hope they fix it soon.

If you search for slow internet browsing in support you will find many people with this kind of issue.
Moreover I already did a test with a Macbook Pro with the same router, same ethernet cable and browsing was totally smooth.
Anyway I`ll follow your advice and will check if there is anything wrong.

  • HT5730 After I installed 10.8.48.4 Internet browsing slowed down to the pace of a dial-up connection.  How can I get back to normal operating speed?

After I installed 10.8.4, my Internet browsing slowed down to the pace of a dial-up connection -- unless it froze up completely.  How do I get my system back to a normal operating mode?  Can I dump 10.8.4 and go back to the one that at least worked?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them.
    1. Have you restarted your router and broadband modem since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
    2. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they also slow?
    3. What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    4. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they also slow?
    5. If you can test Safari on another network, is it slow there too?
    6. If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Extremely slow download speeds and internet browsing on Macbook pro

I recently got a 13"" macbook pro. System config - Maverick OS/i7 dual core/8GB RAM/750 GB HDD, Almost 690GB of free space available. I am expriencing extremely slow download and internet browsing speed. I have to wait for almost 10-12 seconds for normal sites to download. The app updates and downloads are painstakingly slow.
The internet speeds are working perfectly fine on my Windows Laptop, and even on my mobile phones. So, the there's no issue of network. Also, I have cleared safari cache etc, just to be sure. But nothing's really helping.
Can any one help me here.
    Thanks !

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • SLOW internet while streaming??  Anyone else have this problem??

I've looked everywhere and I can't seem to find anyone that has this problem:
I have an appleTV using 802.11N on a gigabit AEBS, with a core2duo macbook pro. Here's the funny part. It syncs beautifully fast without a hitch. No dropouts or anything. However, while it's syncing, all internet connectivity on my macbook pro is entirely cut off! Websites won't load, email won't send, ichat logs out, everything just goes down to a crawl, meanwhile the appletv syncs very fast. I've tested to make sure the internet connection isn't down by surfing on my iPhone and my mom's imac, and they both have fine internet connectivity while the appletv is syncing.
I've also tested the network speed to and from the airdisk. I assumed if it was my macbook pro's airport card that maybe when it goes really fast, it doesn't allow other traffic. Well, I moved big files back and forth through the airdisk at high speeds and internet seems fine. It's only when it's between the appletv and the macbook pro that the internet breaks...
I also tried it through an airport express with 802.11g and slower network speeds with the same result, so that rules out the base station.
Has anyone else had this problem? It's so frustrating because I have been forced to turn off appletv syncing entirely!

Well I know when syncing my iPhone, I have issues with internet speed on my Laptop (windows based) and also I cannot check email (fails to connect). Once syncing is done, mail works fine and I am browsing at full speed again.
I can only assume the sync process itself on the machine it is on is the issue. I figured it was just gonna be more so for Windows machines as iTunes on Windows is a huge resource hog when doing anything (downloading podcasts, syncing, etc). I just figured my slow internet access was more about iTunes bringing windows to a crawl during the sync and as for email assumed the sync process hoses what ports I can get out on.
Nice to see it messes with Mac users as well
Not sure why you have to turn off syncing entirely though. Won't it only do a sync if something changes? Mine doesn't sit there always sycning.
