Streaming Kills WiFi

Whenever I am streaming over WiFi (a 5GHz connection will almost full bars) from my computer to my Apple TV over home sharing, I lose internet access on all of my WiFi devices. Quitting the movie on the AppleTV fixes the problem. The Airport Extreme is in a well ventilated space and I dont know what at all to do :/ Help please!!

This may help:

Why is streaming over wifi slower than over cellular connection?  Other devices don't have the same issue.

generally we all think and expect wifi will be faster than a cell connection.  But that will not always be the case.  A good uncongested LTE runs pretty fast.
But the wifi should be fast enough that you wouldn't notice any issues unless:
You are using a public wifi spot where the signal is metered.  Where I work, they clamp the wifi for guests at 250k.
The wifi cannot run any faster than your internet connection.  Is it clean?
Recent stoires here are explaining how verizon and Comcast have been allowing you tube and netflix feeds to become overcongested, in an effort to extract $$ from them for the privilange of sending you the signal.
a good place to start is to get a speed app - like Speed test (there are a bunch in the store) and see what speed your wifi is delivering.
One thing that is almost certain, your wifi is a whole lot cheaper than your cell signal!

  • Stream 7 Sleep Mode Kills WiFi

Ok, This is going to sound Strange but here it goes.
Got a new stream 7, connected it to my wifi (802.11 g/n). When the tablet is awake and running it works great, wireless works great, etc. When it goes to sleep however, my wifi in the house for all the other devices (Phones, other computers, wireless bridge - that were working fine when tablet was awake) all loose the wireless connection, and ability to go to the internet, and so does the tablet. When the tablet is reconnected to the wireless  everything seems to work again. About the only thing i can think of is its 802.11 Power Save, but theres no way to turn that off. Furthermore, if i disable Wake on pattern match on the NIC, i loose the ability to go into sleep mode. The only hypothisis i have, is the Stream 7 is sending an 802.11 power save sleep packet (constently?) which the router dosent know what to do with and freezes the whole thing. Turning off the Wi-Fi or disconnecting the network makes the problem immedatly go away.
I have updated the BIOS on the tablet, updated the firmware on my router, Router is a Linksys E900 running DDWRT (which has no problems with any other devices), Any idea WTH is going on here? I have never seen a device do this before.

i think i got my problem figured out. It seems that it was my router - kind of. I had upgraded my router with DD-WRT, however it appears that DD-WRT does not support the "sleep" mode this tablet uses. After much troubleshooting, I was able to verify this by buying a new router; upgrading it to DD-WRT and the problem persisted. I downgraded it to the stock firmware and the problem went away. For me, this problem was especally irritating because it would bring down my wireless bridge. The bridge still occasionally drops, but it no longer appears to be related to the tablet's operation. I forgot to add that my other wi-fi devices no longer disconnect as well and their operation appears to be normal.

  • Stream 7 wifi drops

Anyone else observing, slow wifi and rampant wifi "limited connectivity" with your stream 7? I thought it was my home network which is (by no choice of my own) an apple extreme based network. However when I dropped in at a client's location (who uses Cisco gear not linksys) and was having the same issues. I've also started to doubt that my last two trips to the neighborhood starbucks where I couldn't get a consistent connection was the fault of their network.
I'm on the cusp of returning the S7, it's a great concept but I think v1 (charging issues, headphone buzzing, etc) is making me think waiting for the v2 is not a 1/2 bad idea.
P.S. if banhien sees this and decides to post one of his useless "i used google to google this answer, but I have no real experience with the hardware" answers, please move on. I rather have real input/feedback from other users. kthnxbai

With all wireless off..I was loosing about %4 every 6 hours. Having the wifi kills that even more. I am not thrilled with the battery life but with the fast boot mode, I have simply been shutting down the tablet when ever i don't use it. That said, After being off the charger since last night (again, shut down) and about an hour of use at work today, its sitting at %52.
I just gotta keep reminding myself that I only paid $79 for it.

  • Time machine kills Wifi network!!

I had recently posted a thread on TC forum "Weird shut down of TC" that my TC just shuts down routinely.
I have a 1TB TC that has been working very well. I bought the new unibody MBP and the Time machine has been backing up quite nicely for past one month.
I now have a problem that the TM aborts with a message the the drive could not be accessed due to network problems.
My Wifi would be down, status light amber, after a while the status light would go off completely but the disk in TC would be spinning as can feel the spin vibrations. This would happen about every 45 minutes and only way to go back up was to unplug and plug.
I now find that the culprit is time machine. This is what I tried sequentially:
    A. Rolled back to 7.3.1 firmware. Same problem.
    B. Switched off the TM from prefrences. It worked well for a day.
    C. Switched on the TM. As soon as TM backup started, I had the TC wifi freeze.
    D. updated to firmware 7.3.2 with TM turned on. Same problem
    E. Turned off the airport card, plugged in ethernet cable so now was not using the wifi but wired connection to the TC. Started the TM and again. SAME PROBLEM.
    F. Turned off TM, all was well for the entire day.
    G. Turned it back on and on the first back up attempt, the WiFi was killed again.
I think now the problem may be with the size of the back up that TM is attempting. It does the 'prepare for back up' pretty quickly but once the back up starts, it kills the WiFi and aborts with a message that there is no network.
Anyone have any idea if I should troubleshoot differently or diagnose this differently?
Has anyone had a problem with TM with large back ups?

    Hi Alexandre,
Thanks for the input. Sorry my profile was not updated. I am using MBPro 10.5.5.
Here is the output from console which I think is the portion till the network went down. Could not find a way to attach the file.
Thanks for any help you can give:

  • Slow Fast Forward or stalls - streaming over wifi.

    To anyone who is interested,
I was having problems trying to fast forward an HD film over my Wifi(g) network. For some reason, apple tv stalls if the fast forwarding out paces your buffering speed. In a nutshell, my network is fast enough to watch hd over but too slow to fast forward faster than X2.
Does anyone know how to improve this setting? Apart from opting for a new router, wired and removing other wireless devices?
For a short term solution for anyone out there, the remote feature on the iphone allows you to simply drag along the length of the film, similar to that of a film, and play from where you stop. EXTREMELY USEFUL when compared to the response-less rubbish that is the white remote!

I have that problem all the time with synced HD video. If I fast forward or rewind, the video will start sputtering after that. I don't think it's your network, it's probably a glitch in the ATV.
In any case, if you're streaming from a Mac via wifi, make sure you turn Time Capsule off. If it starts running while you're streaming, it will definitely degrade performance.

  • Flex View not streaming on wifi but works on 3G

Flex View streaming of paid and free tv shows and movies is not working on my Verizon Fios router wifi.  I have tried it on my iPad 3 and my iPhone 4.  But when I disable wifi on my iPhone and force it to 3G Flex View content plays fine.
When I click to "Watch" button the playback screen launches very briefly but then just crashes. Again, no problwith over 3G.
All other FIOS and other apps work fine.  Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Marc

sounds like a bad wifi channel
you should log into the router.
    192.168.1.1
The default user name for the Verizon MI424WR router is "admin," and the default password is "password" (do not include the quotation marks).
Note: To improve security, your router password may have been changed to the serial number of your router if you have not changed the password from the default of "password." You can find your router's password on the label affixed to the bottom or back of your router.
After you are logged in navigate to wireless settings, and basic security settings and look for channel.
Change to 1, 6 and 11.  Try not to use any other channel as they are overlapping and cause trouble for you later.
Let us know which if any worked.

  • Streaming over WiFi is not fluent

When I stream video from my mac or iPad over wifi, video is not fluent, it is stucking. When I stream it from my mac over ethernet (apple tv is connected to my network by ethernet), it works just fine.
These problems started after updating my Apple TV few months ago.
    Any idea? :/

  • Music streaming drops, wifi still excellent

    Hi
I have a problem on my airport express when listening to music. Quite often when i browse in itunes on my iphone or mac, it seems like i loose my connection to stream music, this also can occur when i pause music and after a while restart. Only solution on mac is close itunes, on iphone same tricks works when ur lucky but it happens i need to restart phone.
During all of this wifi signal remains excellent ( AE is set as wireless acess point), but the fact that i need to restart itunes makes me believe WIFi is not the problem here.
Any suggestions i'm having latest version of the itunes on both devices.
    Regards, Kris

Both apps require a lot of bandwidth so you may have a problem within your local area network. Meaning you may not have enough bandwidth reaching the devices or some other situation. Because neither products are Apple products and we don't have access to your system I'd recommend contacting the developers and see if they have some specific trouble shooting  you can do. If you have a network specialist in your community (a professional not your nephew or your neighbors 15 year old son)  you also might consider calling them in.
We had a similar issue at my house which was due to the Wi-Fi signal being too far away from the device which meant we had to get a Wi-Fi extender to boost the signal. Without knowing a thing about your environment recommend getting someone that knows more about networking involved.

  • HT204207 Sync podcasts to iPod from iTune in full via USB, no streaming, no WiFi download, good old USB sync transfer.

I want to sync my podcast from my MacBook to my iPod via USB. I do not want to download them individually over WiFi due to a large number or podcasts.
I do not want to stream as I listen to my podcasts offline. I want my podcasts to sync like they use to. I just want all the podcasts that are on my MacBook on my iPod, not in a list ready to stream or ready to download.  I want the actual podcast to copy to my iPod in full via USB. I don't understand why apple have chosen to take this option away. I do not want to covert all my podcasts to "music", because then I don't get the advantage of the podcast app where I can listen to podcasts a 1.5x or 2x speed, among other features.

  • Sk17i Video streaming on WiFi problems.

Depends... I don't really want to have to keep jumping around different apps, so i would like a nice... alround browser. Mine shows "Streaming error" for both Mobile Data and Wi-Fi connections. It used to work before, but i think after the update, it's no longer working. Can somebody shed light on this issue? It happens when you have to stream videos and the device asks you which application to use. I always choose "Video" which i always use for streaming online videos but now it's no longer working.

  • Help for Realplayer Streaming over wifi Timecapsul...

I was successfully streaming radio and video (BBC) to the E71 over my home network - Mac Timecapsule being used as wireless router WPA2, password protected.
All of a sudden it stops "unable to connect" message when the Realplayer app tries to open a stream. I can still get onto the web via the correctly defined same access point for email, web browsing etc, it is just Realplayer that can't get the streams. I can also access an unencrypted network in my house and this works just fine with the Realplayer streaming. Tried the usual reboots, no luck.
I suspect it could be something to do with the router firewall settings, but as we haven't changed these and it worked previously I am a bit stuck.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.

  • External video monitor kills wifi network link under Windows 7

I have a 2010 15 inch Macbook Pro; when I plug in the external monitor with the display port under Mac OS Lion, I have no problem getting access to my wireless local network or any network.  When I switch to Windows 7 thorugh bootcamp, I can get access without plugging in the external video cable.  I plug the external monitor, it kills my airport card and no access to the wifi.  I have remove the external monitor to gain access to the wireless network.  Windows 7 is up-to-date and the same thing for bootcamp.  Also I have a Star-tech dvi usb switch.
So what gives?  Star-tech dvi switich or it a Microsoft Windows 7 issue

Maybe this will help. Notice the bullet addressing external monitors. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1365

  • Live audio streaming over wifi network

What I would like to know, is it possible to stream live audio over a wifi network.
PC A records a stream from a mic and then simultaneously broadcasts that same stream live over the entire wifi network, sorta like a radio station only on a much smaller and simpler scale.
    Is this possible?

It seems like I'm missing something with icecast. If I understand it correctly then you can only play an existing media file, no real time live broadcasting?
I have finished setting it up and can listen in over the network, but I need real time broadcasting. Is there a way to do this in icecast or should I look at something else.
    SYNOPSIS:
While someone is talking over the mic the server records the stream with Audacity for editing later on. The problem is that I want this stream to be simultaneously streamed live to another PC so that people next door to the meeting can hear it real time, no delays. A few seconds delay is not critical, but I cannot record and hour long session and then broadcast it, it has to be real time.
To complicate things, there is no internet available, we are in the middle of nowhere on a secluded convention centre, so that is why it seemed to me like the easiest would be to broadcast via WIFI.

Yes, when you have updated to iOS 6, there is a bunch of new apps which will make it slower. Even if you have not run them they are still on in the background
