Streaming movies on Netflix freeze often.

When watching streaming movies (Netflix) on my TV the video freezes and shuts down from time to time.  Is my Airport Extreme wireless the culprit?  If so, how can I increase the range?  I seem to get 35 mps from my internet provider.  My iPad also seems slow and I get apps closing suddenly.

1. The modem router is a Ubee (Dvw3201B) suppled by Bright House Road Runner.  My understanding is that the cable company turned off the wireless feature and in fact, the panel light for wireless is not lit.  I am not sure how to turn it on.
To track down this issue we need to completely remove the AE from the configuration.. because if any blame is to go to the ISP they need to know it is just their equipment that is the trouble.
You may not be able to turn on wireless but ISP can do it remotely.. ring and ask.. or ask for the instructions to turn it on from your end.
I want you to completely remove the AE and just use the ISP router.
The userguide is available on this page.
http://www.ubeeinteractive.com/products/cable/voice-gateways/dvw3201b-advanced-w ireless-voice-gateway
However many ISP lock their devices so end users have to request setup changes.. I am not in the US so you will need to work that on out.
2. I do not see any model number on the base of the AE.  "About this Mac" shows the card type to be: Ox14E4,oxBE) The unit was purchased from Apple about six months ago.
If it is the tall one it is the AC model..
Easy to tell .. old one is flat.. new one is tall.
Model number is on the base.. it is so small you need a magnifying glass to read it. And light from the right direction and carefully read the first line of text.. hidden in there it says model A1470 (that is my Time Capsule) .. yours will say A1521.
The AE has issues on the wan port.. so I would not be surprised if you have issues..
Please post some screenshots from your Airport utility.
This is the key one..
Then click edit and show me the wireless tab and network tab..
so
Let me strongly also suggest if you have the AE bridged which you should, then plug ethernet cable from the Ubee modem to a LAN port instead of WAN of your AE.. that can fix your problem in some cases. Give it a try even before you worry about getting the ISP to turn wireless back on.

Can u stream movies from netflix on the iphone 5 on to a tv without a cord?

Unfortunatly with movies in the iCloud it physically gets downloaded to your device. I am thinking some of the reasons for this is because of possible changes in bandwidth speed on 3G or 4G networks well as coverage for those networks. Nothing would be worse when watching a movie that I am streaming I the car and I loose cellular coverage. The good news is with it downloading when you are done watching it, delete it and download another one.

  • Silverlight won't work in FF4.0, cant stream movies from Netflix. SL works ok in IE 7.0 What is wrong with FF??

I used FF to stream movies from Netflix until Dec2010. I have updated to FF 4.0 and now I can't down stream Netflix movies. I get an error from Netflix that says Silverlight is not working and must reinstall.
BUT......Netflix and Silverlight works fine with IE 7.0
    What happened to FF4.0..and Silverlight??

I just updated to the new Firefox and it wouldn't stream my Netflix movies. I was getting an error code related to Silverlight. I called Netflix and they had me enable my history and that fixed the problem. Their tech support, said the history/cookies must be enabled to stream movies. Hope this helps! (I also followed the prompt on the screen from Netflix with this error code to delete my old saved certificates, etc.)

  • Watching streaming movies from NetFlix

I tried to watch streaming movies from NETFLIX, but I get an error indicating that the MAC does not support NETFLIX real-time streaming movies, but MAC could support this in the future. Does anyone know when MAC might enable this?

This has nothing to do with Apple enabling this. It's up to Netflix to make their service available to Mac OS X. You should contact Netflix with your question.

  • Why is firefox crashing when I try to play a streaming movie on Netflix?

I have already contacted Netflix and they told me that there is nothing on their end causing this problem. Every time I try to watch a movie (any movie) on Netflix's streaming service, my browser (firefox) crashes, and this has been a persistent problem for about a week now. My computer has been restarted numerous times and I have updated my firefox to the newest version available. It is costing me money, since I have paid for this service, but am unable to use it. I want this fixed now. Thanks.

You can't open a Word document in Firefox. You need to save the file and open it with your MS Office software.

  • Trying to stream movie from Netflix. Using Lion, Safari

Trying to stream a movie from Netflix on macbook pro.  Using Lion, Safari & Silverlight 5.1.  Movie downloads OK & black screen appears with controls.  Movies doesn't play.  When I put my cursor anywhere on the movie progress bar, a still picture and the time of the still beneath it appears.  But the movie itself never plays. Uninstalled and re-installed silverlight.   Called netflix, microsoft and applecare.  No one has a solution and punts to the other!  Can anyone help me please??

I disagree...We use apple because we like to use safari.
why would we download another troublesome browser onto our macs..?
    geez.
Yes it is & I'm sticking to it!!!!
Using Safari is your personal choice.  Having backup browsers is the way to go for Mac users.  If one browser doesn't work, use one that will.  Not all browsers are troublesome.
I use 3 browsers.  None are troublesome.  The browser I use as my default browser has more of what I want to do than Safari.  It's my personal choice.

  • HT4381 Streaming movies from Netflix It doesnt shift to next episode

After watching the first episode of a movie from Netflix it doesn't shift to the next episode it just repeats the first episode over and over.  Please help me fix it!

I have this same issue in both 5.1 and 5.1.1 firmware versions on the 3rd generation AppleTV.  I reverted back to firmware 5.0.2 by connecting the AppleTV via USB to iTunes.  In iTunes under windows you hold down the shift key while clicking the restore button to select an alternate update file.  You can search for the file AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw for the 3rd generation AppleTV. Sorry, I don't know the file name for the earlier generations.

  • After an hour or so of streaming movies from Netflix or TV from CNN, computer locks up; is there a cure?

Latest version of Firefox (4.0.1); XP Pro w/sp3

I use a HP Photosmart Premium 309a all-in-one that uses the same 5 ink system & technology that's in the B8550 & D7560.  I've just checked & since the end of November I've printed  756 pages (730 documents & 26 photos) & I have not had to change out my supplies.  On looking at the page yield info for the B8500 series (http://h10060.www1.hp.com/pageyield/en-019/yields/PSB8500_photo.html?cCode=us) it should be possible to print approx 100 4 X 6 photos with 564 supplies.The initialisation process that you mention is necessary to maintain consistent print quality and I hear this happening on my printer too but it usually only happens just before or after a print job.  If your printers are going through the initialisation process every few minutes then it may be advisable to communicate this to Tech Support because it certainly does not match my experience. You may find that by taking the cartridges out and storing them in a moist environment that you may have issues with printing when you re-insert them because the docking filters on the print head may dry out because the supplies are not connected.

  • When downloading movies form netflix my apple tv streaming keeps stopping ?      ?

While streaming movies from Netflix through Apple TV, the movies keep stopping. My WIFI signal is strong. Can anyone help? Thank You.

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Exactly how do i stream videos from netflix, thru my ipad, to my hdtv?

how do i uaw my ipd2 to download movies or stream movies  from netflix, thru my ipad to my hdtv?

No you don't need an Apple TV.
If you already have a Netflix account, you need to download the Netflix app for iPad.
Depending on what will work, you'll need to purchase the Apple Digital AV cable/connector (HDMI connector),
Apple Component video & audio cable (separate Red, Green Blue channels) or Apple Composite & audio (VGA)
    cable.
Once you have one of the cables connected to both your iPad and the appropriate connection/selection on the TV, you tap the Netflix app icon, input your Netflix user name and password, pick a TV show or movie you want to watch tap on the movie, then tap play and the video should output through the iPad's dock connector to the input connected to the TV. Make sure you pick the right input setting via your HDTV's own remote control.
    And that's it!
You need to have an active account for the Netflix streaming content service in order for their app to work on iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch.
I have an older Sony 38" TV and use the Apple Composite (VGA) cable to stream Netflix through the iPad to my TV. The iPad acts as a streaming media device for this type of use.
    Works great!
One caveat though. There is been a lot of threads here that deal with the quality of Apple's cable/connector varieties.
Many have complained that they had to struggle with finding a good, working cable or finding the cable that would work with the iPad that allowwed the video
signals to pass thru the cable/s to the TV.
Hopefully you won't have this issue, but if you buy a certain Apple cable and it doesn't appear to be working or defective, return it and purchase another like it or try an entirely different cable.
I couldn't get the Apple Component Video cable to work on my Sony. I returned it for another and still didn't work. I returned that one a tried the
Apple Composite (VGA) cable anf that cable has worked like a champ for nearly a year, now!

  • I'm getting the rainbow wheel when I try tp pen in internet page (Safari). The page half loads then appears to freeze with the rianbow wheel.  I get the same result when I try to stream a movie from NETFLIX.  Freezes up rather than plays (after loading).

I get the rainbow wheel when I try to open an internet page. It loads halfway, then freezes, with the rainbow wheel whirring around. Smae thing happens when I try to stream a movie on Netflix.  The movie loads, then the wheel shows up and the screen freezes.  Same thing when I try a DVD, it takes the disc, but won't play when I hit on PLAY.
I am repair permissions, and all that I can do, but I am a novice.  Any help would be greatly appreciated because I spend big bucks and drive 40 miles to get Apple help.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If your profile info is up to date, you probably have a 2006 or 2007 MacBook with a CoreDuo or Core2Duo.
It probably came with 512MB or 1GB RAM memory and a 60, 80, or 120GB hard drive.
    You're still running OS X Tiger, 10.4.
Your DVD drive may be dirty or wearing out.
For specifics about your computer, click on the  Apple Logo in the menu bar, then About This Mac, and More Info... to find details.)
You may be running short of hard disk space. You should have at least 10% free, or 10 to 15GB free for best performance. Less than that, and your hard disk is spending lots of time searching for places to store data.
Complex web pages and sites like Facebook and Twitter, and pages using Adobe Flash, and high-bandwidth applications like video streaming from NetFlix can all cause your computer to run slowly, and the fan to run at high speed, because the processor is working hard. Conversely, email is not terribly resource-intensive, and probably still works pretty well.
Several things can each provide a small performance increase (listed in no particular order):
Adding more RAM memory. Upgrade to 2Gb to give your programs a bit of 'breathing room', especially if you are running more than one program at a time.
Erasing the hard drive and reinstalling the current operating system and programs from scratch. This erases all your existing programs and data. Unless you have backups and program discs, you lose everything currently stored on it.
Installing a higher capacity, faster hard disk, say 250GB or 320GB will give your programs and data more space, and perhaps faster access if you replace the factory 5400rpm drive with a 7200 rpm drive. If your current hard disk is nearly full (less than 10% free space), the drive has to 'thrash' to free space to store information.
Upgrading the operating system to OS X 10.5 Leopard or OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Both are discontinued OS X versions, still available to order directly from Apple, but not likely found on a store shelf any longer. An upgrade to OS X 10.7 Lion might not be possible for your MacBook (details here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/), and Lion would likely cause a further slowdown, because honestly, Lion is optimized for newer, faster dual-core or quad-core computers with fast video chipsets and 4GB or more of RAM.
A faster internet connection, for example: I switched internet providers to get a 3.0Mb DSL connection (up from a 512Mb connection) for an extra $10 per month, and saw downloads and internet browsing speeds increase dramatically.  With the slower connection, it was not possible to watch video.
Will all of these upgrades together get you close to the performance of the latest MacBook Air or MacBook Pros? NO!
Ultimately, you have a 4- or 5-year-old computer, and spending up to several hundred dollars for upgrades might not be a worthwhile investment for you, versus applying that much money toward the cost of a new(er) Mac, and perhaps passing your MacBook on to a friend, child, or grandchild who needs mainly email capability.
If a brand new Apple is not in the budget, consider a refurbished Mac from the Apple Store online. These are reliable computers from 'last year's models' and have the same 1-year Applecare warranty as a brand new model, and often sell at a discount of 10 to 30 percent of the price when the model was introduced.
I'm using a mid-2007 MacBook, purchased as a refurb from Apple in late 2007. It came with 1GB RAM, a 120GB 5400 rpm hard drive, and OS X 10.4 Tiger. Over the years, I've upgraded it twice. Firs to 2GB, then to 4GB RAM, to a 320GB drive, then to a 500GB 7200 rpm hard drive, and to OS X 10.5 Leopard, and then to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Rather than one more round of upgrades to OS X 10.7 Lion, I'm saving for a newer MacBook Pro or MacBook Air at some time in the future.

  • Apple tv (2nd gen) freezes up while watching movies on Netflix. Only sometimes not on every movie. Any ideas how to fix?

Sometimes when I watch a movie on Netflix on my apple tv it will sometimes pause and freeze for an extended period of time. It happens on about 1 out of every 5 movies I watch. If I watch a movie on my iMac (which is in the same room) I don't have any issues whatsoever. My Internet speed is fine at 50 MEG. I just think that it has something to do with the Apple TV unit. Am I doing something wrong or a setting to change or does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance, Pete.

This doesn't sound right at all.
    My thought would be:
1 - Possible itunes problem or corrupt itunes library file. Try using iTunes from a different user account to see if thatworks ok, if it does, I'd wonder about the other account library being corrupted.
2 - Network issue - ensure you've not enabled any firewalls or other software security which could be slowing communication to AppleTV.
3 - Hard drive problem - are these movies stored on the computer's main drive? If so, is the rest of the computer behaving normally or slowly? Check SMART status of drive using Disk Utility. If the movies are on an external or network drive, gain can you manually copy stuff to/from that drive normally? If not it could be a hardware issue or network slowness affecting a network drive. Also could the movies be on a drive that is no longer connected? The odd thing is the artwork not showing in itunes as it normally would in my experience even if files were no longer accessible for some reason.
4 - Just for good measure , and for no particular reason, sometimes restarting router, AppleTV and computer can help spurious issues.
