Streaming music from iTunes to iTouch over the internet

Hey all. I want to set up my iTouch and Mac so that I can listen to all the music that's stored on my MBP via my iTouch, no matter where I am. i.e. I want to leave my MBP up and running at home but be able to stream my music to my iTouch at school. The reason being is I have 45 GB of music on my computer with a 16GB iTouch so I might want to listen to stuff that's not on my iTouch. Does anyone have any ideas of how to do this?
P.S. I was told something about needing to set up a VPN server, but I can't figure out.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    You said:
No, I do not want to "factory reset" my iPod. No I do not wish to do anything crazy long or hard to fix this.
That may be necessary, It is not what you want to do/not do but what is required to resolve your problem.

itunes sync takes all music off iphone 4s onto pc. how do i get music from itunes on pc to the iphone 4s?

Under your device in iTunes, you need to make sure you have "Sync Music" enabled on iTunes under the music tab to tell iTunes to move the music it has over to your iPhone.
Take a look at this article for information on how to sync your iPhone using iTunes.

  • HT4437 Streaming music from iTune to Airport Express

In order to stream music from iTunes (Windows Desktop) to AirPort Express, do both have to be connected via WiFi network? What if both are connected via same wired network.
My iTunes cannot see AirPort Express connected to the same network.
    thanks,

Airport utility installed on my PC (Win Vista) cannot detect AA. It communicates only when I enter the IP address of AA. After that I have configured the AA in Bridge mode. AA has wired connection with Linksys Router.PC is connected with the same router.
iPod Touch can easily detect AA and can stream music to it too.

  • Can you access an external HD plugged into the Airport Extreme from a remote location over the internet?

Can you access an external HD plugged into the Airport Extreme from a remote location over the internet?
Also can the content on the exteral HD plugged into the airport be accessed by the TV to stream content?

The first question answer is yes..
The question is asked continually.. please read the methods that Tesserax wrote up so well.
    See remote access tip here.
    AirPort
Also can the content on the exteral HD plugged into the airport be accessed by the TV to stream content?
Unlikely .. because your TV uses a system called DLNA.. and Apple do not support DLNA in any way shape or form.. because they are fully committed to iTunes.. Apple routers have no media extensions.. unlike most other decent brands now which mostly do support multimedia.
Having said that.. you can place your video files on the external hard disk.. and play them.. but you need a player.. a real player not an apple TV which is a streamer.. eg A WD Live TV can play video files.. because it is a media player.. unlike your TV or apple TV.

  • Can't stream Music from iTunes to my Apple TV

I bought an ATV for the sole purpose of being able to stream music from my PC iTunes account to my Samsung smart TV.  As it turns out, that is the one thing my ATV will not do.  I have had my ATV for about three months and have never been able to stream music to it from my PC.  I do not see my ATV as a device in iTunes and I do not have the airplay icon visible in iTunes
    Gear
    3rd generation ATV
    PC running Windows 7
Here are some things which work fine on the ATV:
Netflix works perfectly e.g., it sees my wifi network
    Youtube works perfectly
Under Music I can see the 2 songs my wife purchased from the iTunes store – I purchase all my music from Amazon.
    Things I have done
Turned Home Sharing on and am using the same account in iTunes and on my ATV
    Reinstalled iTunes – 11.0.2.26
    Updated ATV to latest software
Rebooted my computer – several times
Rebooted my router – several times
How do I resolve this issue?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried a new approach and unplugged my ATV brought it over to my computer and connected it to my router via ethernet.  This caused the airplay icon to show up on the transport bar in iTunes.  I could select the ATV as an output.  I disconnected the ethernet cable and reconnected the ATV to my TV.  The airplay icon remains in iTunes but the ATV is no longer there as an option - only my computer speakers.  Any ideas?

  • Streaming music from iTunes 09 (Snow Leopard) to AirPort Express

Hi! I'm an elementary music teacher who travels to several schools. To make my life simpler, I set up airport express base express stations in my schools. This way, I don't have to worry about plugging and unplugging cables and running cables all over the room. Until my update to Snow Leopard and iTunes 9, this worked flawlessly! Now, I have major audio problems! I end up changing the channel and updating on my basestations, and that only solves the problem sometimes. On an "unofficial" Apple forum I found a post that mentions selecting "Multiple Speakers" to solve the problem, by streaming the music as well as playing it through the speakers on my MacBook Pro. Again, it only helps sometimes. Does anyone have a work around? I spoke with Apple Tech Support a few nights ago. They had me reset the PRAM and some other things, but that didn't help either. I don't suppose there's a way I could get iTunes 8 back on my machine either... Any help or suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Also, is there some way to let APple know directly this is a problem that they need to get an update to fix?
    Thanks!
    Paul

    it doesn't work with mp3 either ...
i can't stream music from my iMac G5 (10.5.8, iTunes 10.2.1) and from my macbook pro (10.6.7., iTunes 10.2.1). I tryed two diffrent Airport Express Stations, both reseted just to be sure and non of them can't connect with iTunes. iTunes tries to connect and after several minutes it just gives up.
    Airplay via iPhone works !

  • How can i stream music from itunes (ipad or MacBookPro) to Apple TV 2nd Gen?

How can i stream (not sync) music from itunes (ipad or mac) to an AppleTV 2nd gen?? thanks..

No, not directly.. but to get the movies onto your iPad you need to sync them on there from your computer running iTunes.. you can likewise sync those same movies from your computer running iTunes to the appleTV..
i create a playlist of all the videos on my iPad (mostly for kids movies they are interested in right now).. so to put those same movies on my appleTV i would just define the sync to appleTV to include that playlist..

  • 5.1 streamed music from iTunes

Ok, might be a stupid question, but I cant find a answer.
If I stream my music from iTunes, to my AppleTV, which will be hooked up to my amp via HDMI, will the music play through all 5 speakers?
I understand that the music will be recorded in stereo, so will therefore never be true 5.1, but i just want sound from all speakers?
My xbox 360 cannot do this, and i figure its gonna be easier to find my music on my iphone with the remote app then using a controller to scroll.
    Thanks

no. music is stereo so will only come from the left and right speakers.

why would you want to distort the music to force it to come from all speakers when is stereo and designed to 2 channels.

  • Intermittent issue streaming music from iTunes to airport express

I'm experiencing an issue when streaming music from my iMac to two airport expresses (1st generation). Music will be playing fine but once in a great while, when a new song starts it's like a digital bomb has gone off. It's similar to an amber alert coming through the speakers instead of music. When I stop the song and start it again, back comes the music. This has happened to many different song files so I've discounted the possibility that it's a corrupted file. I've not been able to determine any other pattern that would give me some insight into the root of the problem. The problem has existed across two different routers so doubtful that’s a factor either. All my software (iTunes and OS) are up to date and generally the system works well. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions or advice? I’m at a loss on how to resolve.

Update: this problem exists when just listening to music on iMac with iTues; no airport express or network involved. Something, somewhere in the software is causing this.

  • New ipod problem download music from itune it keeps closing the progarm

I have new iPod shuffle. Was trying to downloan music from itune. But at first it looks like it was downloaded. but there was no much music. Then tried again and but itune programe will shut down immediatly when I try to down load. I need help, Thans.
    Tsion.

Does it do this with another set of earbuds? If not, does this happen with songs you ripped from CD or downloaded from elsewhere?
Since it's still under a year old, it's covered under Apple's 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects. Show a Genius at the Genius Bar what you are experiencing and they'll likely swap it out for you at no cost.

  • Problem with streaming music from iTunes to iPhone

Hello all, I have a problem for which I have not been able to find a solution despite multiple Google searches. I can't seem to access ALL my music from the Macbook Pro (13", 2011, latest OSX) on my iPhone 5. I've turned on home sharing on iTunes. From the music app, I can access my library from my iPhone. The problem is, several songs are missing from the library! I just can't seem to make all of my iTunes music available for streaming (I have 30+ gigs worth of music on my Mac).
Strangely enough, all of my music is accessible from my AppleTV. In fact, using the Remote app on my iPhone, I can my iTunes library in its entirety. The problem is, the Remote app only lets you stream to the AppleTV or play the music on the computer speakers. Sometimes, I just want to stream the music to the iPhone so I can llisten to it through headphones.
Is there a solution to this problem? Is there a limit on how much music the iPhone can access over WiFi? That doesn't seem to be a problem for AppleTV.

My music has been accumulated over many years and is from multiple sources. Most of the missing songs were not purchased from iTunes and I've only ever had one AppleID. The thing is though....most of the available songs were also not purchased from iTunes.

  • Streaming music from itunes to apple tv wirelessly skips

I am dying. I have spent hours and hundreds of dollars trying to improve the streaming quality to my apple tv. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a Dell XPS Laptop(1 year old) running the latest version of Itunes. It has windows Vista 32 bit and the firewall software is off. I originally tried to connect wireless but symptoms of skipping were present so I hard wired it to the airport extreme. All my music is stored on a two terabyte external sygate drive. I have an airport extreme, because I suspected my netgear router originally, and an airport express to extend the range.(Probably unnecessary). The skipping reduced a little bit when I made the switch to hardwiring the computer. I have an apple tv that is up to date with software and I use an ipod touch to control the whole thing using the apple tv as a multiple speaker choice. I consider myself to be proficient at troubleshooting but this one has me perplexed... There are no virus programs on the computer now because I thought maybe they were the cause. I am going to try to select the music from the apple tv menu tonight to see if it makes a difference but I simply refuse to believe I have to sync my music to make it work. Any ideas?

have you considered _*wireless interference*_ as the source for your issue ?
try changing the channel your router is broadcasting on.

  • How to delete all music from itunes and start over

I have had many issues with my itunes, and I want to completely delete it and start over. My ipod has all the movies and music just as I want it. Is there a way to start over with itunes and import all the music and movies from my ipod and purchase history?

Rebuilding your library from the contents of your device is possible (see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device) but I wouldn't recommend this as an approach to cleaning up your library if you don't have to. You could, for example, delete the current iTunes Library.itl file and then reimport the contents of the media folder. This would wipe out all playlists, ratings, play counts, and clean up any dead links in the library, but might still show any previously duplicated content, and iTunes is likely to wipe and reload your device next time you sync.
Why not tackle the issues in your library?
