Streaming Netflix and a slow connection

I have a Netflix-enabled TV with a powerline adaptor running to it to stream movies upstairs.  I was able to watch them with very few glitches for a while until I renewed my contract with Verizon for what it said was a faster internet speed.  Now I can sometimes get through 1 episode of a TV show and then it completely stops and teels me my connection is too slow to support it....  I "chatted" with tech support after waiting for 30 minutes for an episode to load, only to have it stop to reload 3 minutes in and he said that he "boosted" my speed and that after restarting my router everything would be fine again.  I have already done that and now it won't load anything at all.  Does anyone have any advice that a not as tech savcy person would understand??  (Sorry, I read the responses in some of the other threads and I don't speak tech that fluently )

Hi, I'm taking over the posting here - I'm nicotomo's wife.
I've been using speedtest.net to check my speeds after trying to download Airport Utility for Windows multiple times, and have been averaging between .08 Mbps - .25 Mbps as opposed to my husband's 8 Mbps. He tested a lower 3 Mbps earlier today, but it is still worlds better than my speed.
When I test directly with the ethernet cord, I get speeds from 7 Mbps - 18 Mbps, so I highly doubt it is the internet connection itself.

  • I have a fast connection to one computer and a slow connection to another; why?

I installed my brand new Airport Extreme last night and it's working just fine on all of my Apple products (MBP, iPhone, iPad), but on my wife's Windows laptop the connection is very slow. Is it possible that it has something to do with the Airport Extreme itself and the type of signal it sends out?

  • WRT160N and WUSB600N slow connection

    Im running WINDOW VISTA
    Using COMCAST CABLE
Hi, I got a WRT160N router. Using it with my WUSB600N(running VISTA) adapter. Some how my connection is really slow. I am also using my WUSB54GS(running XP) adapter with the router and connection is good there. I play World of Warcraft, and it lags. I had tried a few methods through the forum but none seems to work.  Here is what I had tried:
    Change Beacon Interval 50
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2304
    RTS Threshold 2304
    Network Mode: Mixed
    Channel Width: 20Mhz Only
Channel: 6 (seems like 11 is much slower)
    Uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests
    Changing the MTU to 1300
Also I upgrade the firmware on the router
    Im running WINDOW VISTA
    Using COMCAST CABLE

Are you facing the same problem on your XP as well as on your Windows 7 computer? If only on your Vista Computer, then you can try to Update the drivers for your Wireless Network adapter on your Windows 7 Computer. Once the drivers is updated on your computer then you can check the speed on your computer.

  • Cannot stream Netflix on TV with airport at the same time.

I have called every 800 number with an Indian accent available. I have called Comcast, Samsung, and my local Apple dealer. They all say i need to call each other's support network. No help. They just read from a computer a response that I have by now memorized. I'm about to send my new Samsung 2500 back to Amazon.
Here's the deal: I have a Comcast modem for internet and phone. I have a Netgear router. I have a Samsung Blu-ray 2500 DVD player that streams NetFlix and I have Airport Express. After hours of fidgeting, I have finally figured out that I can either stream NetFlix or get internet for my MacBook but not both. Period. So, I can run my Airport wireless or my Netflix on TV but not both. I am somewhat techno impaired but in some of the discussions someone mentioned that you cannot have two IP addresses for one cable OR you cannot have one IP address and run NetFlix and surf the web on your laptop. The second seems absurd. In the very fine print, Samsung says that some IP's will not let you stream NetFlix. Does anyone know if that is true with Comcast? Comcast themselves didn't know (honest! - at least not the boiler plate email I got back said they didn't). It honestly starts to get funny when I go through all the set up online with my Samsung and then they give me a password to start streaming movies. BUT, to do this, I must disconnect my Samsung to get online with my laptop to plug in the password. By the time I do that, the password time has expired! LOL!! Besides, I don't even think it would work by the time I switched back to "live" NetFlix. So, I have all this stuff and I still can't watch a movie on TV.

I guess that there is 2 possibilities that I can think of.
One is that you are using a single IP address and only one device is getting it at any given time. However with a router I would not think that this is the issue. But just to be sure... I am assuming that the Netgear router's WAN/Internet port is connected to the Comcast modem. The Netgear router should be configured with it's DHCP services enabled. I am assuming that the AirPort Express (AX) is connected via Ethernet to one of the Netgear router's LAN ports. The AX should be configured to act as a bridge (not sharing a single IP address).
The other possibility is that the bandwidth is getting entirely consumed by the Samsung Blu-ray and the MacBook has no opportunity to get any data.

  • Want stream Netflix to blueray via Airport Express wifi. The blueray finds my wifi but the wireless connection failed - said, Ensure DHCP server is enabled on router and restart router. Don't think I have DHCP server. Suggestions anyone?

Want to stream Netflix to blueray player via my existing Airport Express wifi. The player finds my wifi but the wireless connection fails - says, " Ensure DHCP server is enabled on router and restart router." I don't think I have a DHCP server. Suggestions anyone?

I can't speak specifically regarding LG, but the Whole Home feature on Direct TV (record a movie on one DVR and watch it on another TV in another location) just won't work with wireless, and I have a strong fast connection at 300 Mbps. Ethernet works perfectly.
Few audio/video products will accept "n" wireless at 5 GHz. I suspect that your LG accepts a 2.4 GHz signal, which would top out at 130 Mpbs.
If you are trying to stream High Definition video, especially at 1080P, my opinion would be that it is unlikely that you will be able to do so reliably using wireless.
Perhaps another user who has figured out how to do this will post with some input.

  • Streaming problems with C7000 40 inches samsung led tv for netflix and utube

    hi
i have led 40 inch c7000 samsung tv. first 3 days i dont have any issues for netflix and utube streaming.
after three days problems started for streaming. intermittently disconnecting .
i thought it is problem with wireless router and i bought linksys E3000 series  wireless router but still the problem exists.
please let me know is there any problem with tv

Is it disconnecting or buffering (where it has to wait for the stream to catch up)?  If it is buffereing it may have to do with time of day and what source you are using.  I was playing around with Amazon Video on Demand Saturday night and while trying to watch an HD preview there was a lot of buffereing going on, when we rented a movie today (Sunday early afternoon) the movie didn't buffer once.  In doing some research on various video on demand services it appears some of them have streaming issues based on time of day (Friday and Saturday nights).  There could also be an issue with your internet service provider.  Depending on what level of service you have your connect speed may not be fast enough so that at times it works, but when their network is busy they throttle your connection speed down and you get buffering.
If you were watching over this past weekend, there were probably a lot of people firing up their new TV's/blu ray players and streaming video (Amazon and Vudu are both handing out credits for new subscribers) which could have slowed things down.
Do you have a computer hooked up wirelessly to the router?  If you do Vudu has a speed test website (google "Vudu speed test") that does an extended download which will give you a good idea of your average download speed.  When I have tried it at different times of the day it has given different results.  Vudu also has info on what speeds you need for different qualities of video streaming.

  • Can't re-order my queue on Netflix and keep losing the connection

I'm having so much trouble with Netflix!  I can't re-order my queue, I keep losing the connection, and it's painfully slow. Is Netflix known to be unstable on iPad? Other internet connecitons seem to be fine.

I rarely have problems on it - I do occasionally have drops in video quality, but nothing consistent. It does require a very strong and stable network connection, and I also wonder if they have periodic "crush time" incidents on their end, considering the rapid growth of Netflix streaming.
Updating the queue is a pain on it - you can't do it on the app, and have to go to their website. I generally find it easier to do on a computer.

  • MLB.TV / streaming stuttering and slow to load - no problems with Comcast Xfinity

3 years ago, I had 15/5 FIOS and had trouble with slow load times for streaming services including Netflix (we now all know about those problems) and MLB.TV (heavy user).  I switched to Comcast (to try and fix the issues as well as lower price) and had a very good experience.  Very fast load times, no stuttering, good up times.
As Comcast prices have risen in my area, I decided to try both side-by-side to compare.  I had 50/25 FIOS installed but kept by 25/5 Comcast Xfinity running as well.  Other than the modem, I'm using the same 1 Gbps Ethernet switch all over my house and ALL of my devices (Roku, streaming DVD, etc) are directly connected via Ethernet.  No wireless connections and all of my devices have been power cycled for a clean boot with the new system.  The only difference is the modem and the source of the broadband pipe.
The good news is that I'm getting 60/30 service with good ping based on several download sites including the FIOS test site.  The bad news is that the MLB.TV and other streaming services on FIOS are all stuttering like crazy ... sometimes the stream pauses all together.  Obviously this is unacceptable for watching sports or movies.
The FIOS stream takes a relatively long time to load (5-10 seconds) compared with Comcast "instant" start and will often stop, buffer for a few seconds, jump back, and then go forward for 30 seconds ... running out of buffer and starting again.  Other times it will play but at a reduced bitrate (pixelated resolution).  None of these problems exist when I use the (still active) Comcast connection and modem.  I had these problems with FIOS 3 years ago, and now they have immediately remanifest when switching back.  I'm frustrated.
If this continues, I'll need to cancel Verizon FIOS and continue with Comcast ... the price difference isn't worth it.
    Any thoughts from support?  thanks.

That would not explain why switching the coax/modem back to Comcast resolves the problems, both in buffering speed and stuttering.
This is not on a PC, this is on a network device like a Roku or Blu-Ray player.
If it were on the MLB server end I would be having trouble on my PC at other sites (I can generally stream over WiFi elsewhere) and the issue would not resolve itself by switching providers.
Also, I had this problem with FIOS 3 years ago ... so it is not something recent.
    Thanks though, any other ideas?

  • E1200 - Unreliable and slow connection

I had a Linksys WRT54G router for 10 years and it worked perfectly, after some upgrades, but great. I have 1 Desktop, 1 Laptop, 1 Android Tablet, 3 Roku Boxes and XBOX and PS3. With my previous router I could use these devices with particular good speed and great in streaming HD.
The only good thing is its fairly easy to set up.
However, I am more interested in performance, and this is where this unit fails. The internet connection stalls at times on easy websites and lessens with multiple Roku boxes working. The picute on Netflix on my Roku Boxes looks like VCR Quality, compared to full 1080 HD with my previous router.
    This product has...
    Unreliable connection
    slow connection
    About me...
    Heavy media streamer

If I relate your issue then the above mentioned solution justifies the troubleshooting steps to be taken, however, in addition to that i would also like to suggest you to try and install your Linksys E1200 router using the Cisco Connect Software just in case, if you are not using it....
Installation disc that came along with your router would help you in installing this router using the Cisco Connect Software, using which you can expect this router to offer you best throughput with both wired and wireless connectivity.....
To set up your router using the Cisco Connect Software, you can use:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=22732&userrole=Links...
Also, try re-installing your router using the Cisco Connect Software, and it should help your cause....Just in case required, you can use the above mentioned troubleshooting steps.....

  • I am having a difficult time downloading HD movies from iTunes. I tried on both my imac and new macbook pro but 95% of the time I get error 8008 (corruption). I can stream HD content from Netflix and hulu w/o problems. I also empty my download folder.

After it started happening on my imac I tried to download on my ne macbook pro but the same thing is happening. I can stream without any ral noticiable problems from my icloud library, Netflix, and Hulu but when I try to download so I can back them up I get the 8008 error code. I have contacted spple support and am still waitin on an answer. Sometimes the error will happen towards the beginning and other times when it is almost downloaded. I can tell it is atarting when the time remaining starts to fluctuate, then the download bar may stop ans start over. It seems to be an icloud problem but I thought I would check to see if anyone else has had the problem and was able to get it taken care of. It should be noted that everyonce in a while I do get a complete download.

These alerts occur due to timeouts or conflicts trying to write a file during download.
If you encounter this issue while while downloading something from the iTunes Store:
Delete your iTunes Downloads folder, located in:
    Mac OS X:
~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads   Note: "iTunes Media" may appear as "iTunes Music. Also, the tilde (~)  refers to your Home directory.
After locating your iTunes Downloads folder:
    Quit iTunes.
Delete the Downloads folder on your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.

  • I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).

I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).
On the Iphone and Apple TV I can connect to Netflix . . . it recognizes me and my account settings . . . and I can veiw all my recent programs and show titles, descriptions, etc..  But when I select one to watch I get a message saying:
"ERROR A PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE PLAYING THIS ITEM. TRY AGAIN LATER, OR SELECT A DIFFERENT ITEM. GO TO WWW.NETFLIX.COM/SUPPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION. (139)
Netflix support say there is nothing wrong on their end . . . that it is an Apple issue.  They see the request for the show, the devices are registered . . . but it shows 0 bandwidth to the device.
My Apple TV did this when I first hooked it up a couple of weeks ago.  Then after a few days started working with Netflix, for no apparent change . . . now doesn't again for the past couple of days (I think that it auto restarted the other night after a virus scan).
Very frustrating, and driving me nuts!  Has anyone else had and been able to resolve this problem?

    Troubleshooting
Apple TV2 update one day and netflix is browsing but not launching the actual content (error 139)
Ipad2 (another ios device) forces me to update netflix if I want to use it and I get the same error 139 on it.
**** now I have two not ways not working where prior to some update it was fine.
Nintendo Wii is still working ( mind you running an ancient version of netflix )  Dusted the Wii off and gave it to the kids use.  Now they are happy again...
PC is also still working ( using some other flash client ) but that's just of interest, we're not going to be watching tv with that.
My wife's iphone 4s is still working.  Odd.. still ios but for somereason I am not forced to update the version. So basically she could mirror stream up to the apple tv with it.  Nice feature of Ios5.  Later found out it is using 1.4 version of netflix.  The most useful thing out of that is that all 3 of the devices are Ios and it was actually the iphone with the 1.4 version of netflix that still worked!
I heard from a friend who was on a different ISP he was still working so I took my appletv2 and ipad2 over to my brothers house who is on that same ISP as my friend and both started working.  So the ISP is involved too!
Brought the appletv2 and ipad2 back to my house hoping it would maybe still work.  No dice   Broken again.
Searched the appstore for a decent packet analyzer and there isn't really anything.  I was able to sniff the traffic with my PC and also on my juniper ssg5 confirmed that.  Turns out port 80 traffic is actually failing and authorization is not happening.  The other clients do not do this...
Asked a buddy from work who used to work at the ISP if he could make a call to some one who might actually know what is going on.  He came back pretty quick and said yea they are trying really hard to get the beta patch in from Bluecoat asap.
So knowing that it was actually Netflix that changed when it hit 2.0 and in my case the ISP made the adjustment it's pretty safe to say this issue is going to be ongoing unless netflix changes again the way they authorize for licenses.
So that's the summary of what went right down the troubleshooting path but I'll tell what what didn't
2 calls to Netflix (useless... waste of time... they are too quick to blame anyone but themselves)
1 call to apple support (support call was going to cost more than it cost for me to change ISPs)
2 calls to ISP (through the normal means - regular support number)
So why is this intermittantly working sometimes?  If you are lucky enough to authorize to an IP address that is not cached they voila you are going to get an authorization / a license to watch the show.  Some people report after defribulating their appletv (reseting, rebooting, dns changes, you name it) they get it working.  Over the past month we all seem to have got it working for some period of time only to lose it a day to two later.
It's now been several days since the beta patch to the bluecoat and 4 of us who have been communicating on the issue appear to be online all at the same time for those several days and that is a good sign that we might be out of the woods on the issue.
Hope this turns into something helpful for someone else out there.

  • E1500 wireless router having problems streaming video and netflix

We got a new E1500 router 2 nights ago. The internet works fine, but it has big trouble streaming videos and Netflix, those types of things. I have changed my MTU setting and all the settings suggested in the "Guide Me" section. My drivers are up to date on my router and on my pc. It just started happening with this router. We had a Netgear before and we have no problems streaming at all. I have rebooted and reset the router and cable modem.
Does anyone else have some suggestions I can try?
    Thanks,
    Debbie

The concern that you have is for both wired and wireless or just for the wireless? If it is for wireless then try these troubleshooting steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Then go to the Wireless tab, change Channel width to 20 MHz only and change the Channel to 6, 9, 11...Save the settings..
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
Then check the status of streaming video and netflix.

  • HT3069 can you stream on netflix and amazon in italy?

I want to know if you are able to stream Netflix, Amazon and HuluPlus using the Apple TV while in Italy?

Probably not unless you have a super speed internet connection.. most people on adsl have 1mbit upload connection or less. you cannot stream movies over 1mbit.. I doubt you can even stream music. Actual throughput is only 800kbit/s...
That is why you store things in the cloud.. you download speed from cloud is much high than upload to it.
That is unless you have a super high speed, fibre connection to your home??
It is certainly possible.. if you have enough bandwidth.. 99.999% of people don't.
