Streaming or Downloading

Not really an AW question, the help is so good here, someone
probably knows.
I've been asked to look into making some of our legal
bulletins, currently delivered via e-mail (or paper!) available
from our server. The Managing partner's heard the word podcast so
wants to do this (thank god he didn't learn about the shuttle
launch until afterwards!). I'm thinking of offering an audio and a
video of the same bulletin.
How do I set a link to default to saving the file instead of
opening it so it will download in its entirety? Is it easy enough?

This might help:

Scroll down about halfway, and look for the heading "Making

  • Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) all of my music wiped off my phone.  Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G? Any ideas?

Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5, 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) almost all of my music has vanished from my phone (weirdly some hasn't).
Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G (all tracks greyed out), though my network settings etc are all set correctly.
Lastly since upgrading to iOS 7.0.1 (and beyond) Genuis has become effectively useless: it continually asks me to connect to wi-fi, and if I do it creates playlists mostly composed of tracks by the same artists or those very obviously linked to them- previously it created brilliant, nuanced playlists.
Are these things connected, and how do I fix them?

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!

  • Why iPhoto photo stream re-download photos when restarted

My iPhoto phto stream re-downloads the pictures everytime my computer restarts.  Photo stream doesn't turn off, just re-download, it is fraustrating when you have many pictures and re-downloads them all the time.  Is there a fix for this?

Do you have HDR turned on on your iPhone camera? And if you do, is it keeping the original JPG? If it is, it will save two versions of each photo.
Do you have HDR turned on:
    Go to Camera App
    Tap Options on screen
See if HDR is turned on.
    Turn HDR off.
    Are you saving the JPG:
    Settings > Photos
    Turn off Keep Normal Photo

  • NO QT STREAMS OR DOWNLOADS AT WORK

I use my MBP at work since my work PC is a slug. The internet connection goes to my router and one output goes to the pc, the other my MBP. The PC is on the company network and QT works fine when I visit sites using qt for streams or downloads.
My problem is I can't view or dl QT from those sites on my MBP. However, the same sites are fine on my MBP at home on a cable modem or friend's dsl.
I talked to a company IT person and they didn't have an answer. All other web browsing on the MBP is fine including flash streams. Any ideas/suggestions? I work in television production so viewing tutorials, etc. is helpful. Thanks!!!

The problem is my router at work. The cable modem feeds it, then the router sends everything to corporate who then networks our 10 pcs.
Tne solution is puttting a router/splitter on the feed from the modem, then doing a home run to my mac. BTW plugging the modem directly into my MBP had me flying and downloading/streaming QT without a hitch. Hope this helps someone!

  • If i stream or download the howard stern show on an ipad mini, will there be data charges?

If i stream or download the howard stern show to an ipad mini, will there be data charges?

    Streaming requires data use.
That depends on your cellular and/or Wi-Fi plans.
If you are using cellular data then your cellular data plan applies.
If you are on Wi-Fi and you have no data cap then no. If you do have a Wi-Fi data cap then your Wi-Fi plan applies.

  • How does my family stream (not download) content using family sharing

    Hi,
Our family previously used Home Sharing with an iTunes account on an iMac. We could pick up our family iPad and stream a movie from the iTunes shared library. How do I now do this with Family Sharing in ios8? - I can still stream like before as my apple id previously purchased all content, but not my other family members now. I don't want my 7 year old to have to wait hours while the movie they wanted to watch on the iPad downloads on to the device - I just want it to start streaming like it used to .... any help appreciated!
    Thanks

As far as I know, family sharing should not affect home sharing and as long as Apple id is the same on ipad
in settings - videos (for movies) settings music( for music)
and on computer under home sharing - it should still work the same way.
Apologize in advance if I am wrong, I do not use family sharing and reason for that I feel it is a step back, not forward.

  • Podcasts in both iPhone and iPad will play for a minute and then reset back to the beginning, can only stream, cannot download - no problem on PC laptop with exact same Podcasts with exact same internet set up.  What is the fix?

This is incredibly frustrating - we had a IPhone 4s that had no problems here for about 7 monts.  We have a new IPhone 4s and recently a new IPad 2.  Ever since the mandatory switch to using the Podcasts App for iOS based products (my PC laptop works fine), the podcasts will say "cannot be downloaded at this time" and will stream for 30 seconds to a few minutes, then abruptly start over at the beginning. We cannot fast forward ahead properly in the new clunky interface, and the secondary screen where you get to see the "tape player" going through podcast does not skip when you move the timer icon anywhere in the podcast.  It is though they are running in parallel.
We are talking podcasts by the BBC, NPR, etc and the Lenovo doesn't have any issues bc the whole system is inside ITunes.
I have looked all over the internet and cannot find a fix, please help.

    Hi jhyiesla,
Im not sure wether I got you right or not. But my advice/s would be as follows:
These steps help you get rid of old apps you downloaded years ago and you do not use anymore.(Also frees space on your mac after emptying the trash)
    1) go to iTunes and delete all applications in it. Make sure to move them to trash! Do not empty your trash yet. Its your backup if step 3 doesnt appear.
    2) connect both your devices(one after each other) and make a backup. !!!Dont press the Sync button, press the Back Up Now Button
    3) Then it asks you if you want to backup applications as well. Confirm. (This is how apps get transferred manually)
    4) Then Sync your devices... The first time it might be, that there are some additional apps loaded to your devices you dont want to.. delete them on your Device (not iTunes) and after that you should be good every time you sync again.
    5) now you can empty your trash on your mac.
    Further,
    - You should regularly connect your devices with iTunes to make sure they are backed up. (Even if you have activated iCloud backup, the iTunes backup is more proper i.e.. Apps)
    - If you hate scrolling through a list of apps in iTunes, you can re/install apps directly on iOS not via iTunes. I absolutely never go to the "Applications" section in iTunes. I install and delete apps directly on iOS.

  • TS3989 Not all photos in Photo Stream are downloaded to pc

I have 275 photos on my iPhone in Photo Stream, but only 35 of them have downloaded to my pc's Photo Stream folder.  Why aren't they all downloaded?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • HT201317 Photos in My Photo Stream not downloading to PC anymore.

Photos in My Photo Stream on my iOS devices are no longer downloading into the designated folder on my PC.  I tried turning off photostream in the control panel on my PC and tried changing the designated download folder, but it still isn't working,  Any thoughts????

Don't know if it will help or not, but you might try going to Control Panel>Programs & Features>Uninstall, then right-click on "iCloud" and choose Repair, restart your PC and try photo stream again.
Also confirm that the photos are appearing in the my photo stream album on your phone (which will confirm that they are being added to photo stream).

  • Streaming a downloaded movie onto Apple TV

I downloaded a movie from the internet of which the files are in vob format. I can play the movie fine on my iMac through DVD player. How can I stream this this movie to my HDTV through Apple TV using Airplay? Home Sharing is turned for both the iMac and the Apple TV, and my iTunes library is appearing on the Apple TV menu screen.
Do I have to import the movie into my iTunes library? If so, how do I do that? I tried importing the folder containing the movie into iTunes but couldn't do it. Do I have to convert it to a different format?
    Thanks in advance

vob format would usually indicate a DVD source - if you downloaded this from somewhere the assumption would be it's a commercial movie someone else has ripped and is illegally being made available for download on the internet.
Discussion about obtaining/ripping/converting commercial copy protected DVD content is prohibited by the forum T&Cs and often prompts thread deletion by the moderators.
I know OS X DVD Player allow playback of vob fies but itunes does not, and these files are incompatible with AppleTV.

  • Movie rentals - are they streamed or downloaded?

I just watched my first rental movie and noticed that there were frequent 'judders' in the picture as it froze momentarily then caught up, although the sound appeared to run smoothly. I purchased the rental a few days ago and only got round watching it today. I had thought that the film would download and I would be watching it from the hard drive, but by the way it juddered and at a few points froze for a few seconds, it looked more like it was running on a stream. The experience has made me a little wary of viewing rental movies in the future, especially as I don't think the movie was HD. How does the rental thing work regarding streaming versus a download stored locally on the HD until viewed?

i scanned your issue as to be honest it was quite difficult to read with it all in 1 huge paragraph.
however, yes it should have downloaded fully within a hour or so (depending on downloads speeds at time).
if you had stuttering whilst playing back a locally stored movie then it could be a few things.
    1) overheating appletv which would usually result on on-screen artefacts, but could also cause stuttering (unlikely though)
    2) corrupt download
    3) appletv needs a reboot
personally i would try number 3 first. you can also transfer the rental to your itunes library on pc/laptop and play it there to see if it stutters (however if this is an HD rental then you can't do that).
you said that you didn't think it was an HD movie? do you mean that it didn't look like it ? if you are comparing it to blu-ray then of course it won't look like that. blu-ray is 1080p, appletv is 720p.

  • Photo stream not downloading through icloud

I have set up Icloud on my PC and cannot seem to get photos to download. I have watched numerous UTube tutorials and gone through the help sections. but is not working. Even the Apple help suggests that you can reset your photo stream, through the icloud log i, but I dont get the Advanced menu option they talk about...

Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at Cloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.

  • Photo stream not downloading / syncing to PCs consistently

I am having trouble downloading / syncing photos to my PC via Photo Stream.  This used to work great, but now it appears that new photos are not either downloading at all or haphazardly to my two PCs (one running Windows 7 and the other Windows 8).
I have 2 iPhones using the same iCloud account.  If I take a picture with either of those phones, the picture shows up on the other phone in the photo stream as expected.  However it is not downloading to my PCs consistently any more.  I have tried multiple troubleshooting steps including turning photo streaming on and off from the iCloud control panel and also completely uninstalling and reinstalling iCloud from the PCs.  Still have the same results.  Older pictures are downloaded, but newer ones are not being reflected.
This is getting very frustrating.  Any suggestions on how to fix?
    Thank you.

I am having the same problem. It seemed to be working fine until I upgraded to ios8.1 using my new Iphone6 now only some of the photos on my photostream are uploading to my PC.
    Help!

  • IOS6 : streaming that download files

    Hi everybody,
Recently, I noticed that (on iOS6 and both iPhone 5 and iPad), when I click on a song to listen to it in sreaming mode (I precise : not clicking on the "cloud icon" beside the album tittle), a FILE is downloaded!!!
No other way to delete it than to go to : Preferences/use/Music/delete all (french translation of the menu).
It should not be the case as (like with Spotify that works like à charm) no files are downloaded unless I ask for it in streaming mode : in fact, it seems to be à comeback to iOS5 "fake streaming mode" that is à download service rather than streaming.
I  don't remember that it was the case in 6.0 or 6.01 but I perhas didn't notice it.
What do you think of this ? Can it be an OS bug ? Am I Aline to expérience that ?
    Tanks and regards.

You REALLY seem to know about your topic !!!
Do you know what is the size of this "kind of" temporarly files zone ? It reminds me the new stuff about iTunes Match that dot not allow you to delete a song with a finger "swipe movement" as it was possible in iOS5. Is it the same principle : unlistened songs that are automatically deleted by the system when place is needed (or other reason ). Is there an article about this (by Apple for instance ?)?
As far as I know we do not know what the size of the non-permanent storage is.
As to not being able to delete tracks, the rumor is that that feature has been added back to iOS 6.1. So be a little patient.
    Michel Goldberg wrote:
By the way (you should know) : is it possible to use both iTune match "on" on my computer(s) and "off" on my iDevices (wire synchronisation).
Yes, of course, this works. There is no requirement that someone has to use iTM on their iOS devices.

  • How do I get photo stream to download to my PC computer thru Icloud?

I just set up Icloud on my PC laptop and am trying to download my photo's from my IPAD.  I don't seem to get a photo icon when I open the cloud on the PC.
How do I activate that, yes I have gone to settings and turned on photo stream, but I don't see anything happening.

  • Iphoto Stream does not take in concideration the time zone. How to add a certain amount of hours on a Stream automaticly downloaded into Iphoto?

    Hi,
I am just back from my holidays with few friends... We were in a Time Zone +6. I have created a Photo stream for everyone to share their photo on the same place. It worked. Back @ my place, I downloaded those photos localy on my laptop to be able to close the Stream. Those picts has the perfect time. In the same time I got all my picts that are automaticly streamed into Iphoto as well ... Here is my problem : I want to had the Picture that I have not streamed into the commun stream to my local event (from my own automatic stream) ... Those have been uploaded with my laptop local time !!! So I have 6 hours difference ! ...
Is there a way to add 6 hours to all my pictures or should I import manualy my pictures from my phone to Iphoto ? (Picts are Ok into my phone).
It is kind of an hugly bug: I think that this streaming option is actully really useful when you are in holidays ... so kind of often in an other time zone !
    Thx for the support !

You e missing somthing - the adjust time and date command is specfially designed to corect tim fo camera mis-settings or time zone - you selec a roup of photo off by a certain amount and it adds the same delta to all thereby quickly an dsimply correcing user camera setting errors or user time zone errors
It does exactly what you ask for - the batch change command does not work for this by=ut the adjust time command does
