Streaming podcast/download issue

I am having issues streaming a podcast on my phone. The website uses a Flashplayer interface and I understand that is not available with the newer software. However I used to be able to download to the phone and listen that way. Now I can not download using Firefox and when I try to using the phone's browser I can download the file but when I try to play it it says the file can not be played in either Google Play Music or by the My Music feature. The website has not changed file formats so the issue is definitely with the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

The feed for this podcast is at http://www.kfiam640.com/podcast/BillHandel.xml
The latest episode in the feed is 'Handel on the News (10/25) and this shows in the Store. However when subscribing no episodes show at all. This is because there is at least one fatal error in the feed, which either is affecting subscribing but not the Store, or was introduces since the Store last checked the feed.
FeedValidator says
'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xe9 in position 13709: invalid continuation byte (maybe a high-bit character?)'
This generally means that the originator has pasted some text in from a word processor and has incuded a 'curly quote' instead of a straight typewriter-style quote, or some other character (even an invisible line return) which XML won't handle. He's going to have to go through the feed looking for it.
Also, the second line in the feed reads
<rss version="2.0" xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/DTDs/Podcast-1.0.dtd" >
which is wrong: it should be
<rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
Because of this error iTunes cannot read any of the 'itunes' tags such as 'itunes:subtitle' and 'itunes:summary'. There are various other errors listed in the FeedValidator report; but basically the error I first mentioned is the one which is wrecking the feed.

  • HT5295 Does anyone else have an issue with the way iTunes fails to properly sync a podcast downloaded to an iPhone or iPad when connected to iTunes later?

When I download a podcast directly to my iPhone or iPad and listen to it I expect it to reflect that status when I come home. Instead the podcast downloads again in iTunes and then wonderful joy it changes the status to unplayed and I wind up having to figure out what I've listened to and what I haven't (I listen to a lot of 'em).

I'm not having issues.  What have you done to troubleshoot?

Is there a way to disable autoplay or limit it to downloaded podcast? Otherwise, one ends up streaming podcasts over 3G unnecessarily...

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • How to *stream* podcasts on iPad with iOS6.1?

I've just updated to iOS6.1 and am wanting to use my iPad as my music center.  It sits on my desk right next to me all day, connected over Wifi, so I have no concerns about data usage.
I simply want to be able to stream a podcast.  Note that I do not want to DOWNLOAD these podcasts to my iPad in advance, or sync them via iTunes, etc.  I simply want to hit play on them and have them start streaming, just like if I hit play on them from iTunes on my computer.
I can't seem to figure out if this is even possible.  In the process, I have deleted the Podcasts app.  This has brought podcast support back in the Music app again, but ONLY for my shared library on my iMac.  This makes running Music on the iPad pretty pointless since I still have to have iTunes running on the iMac as well.
How can I get Music to stream  podcasts without having to sync & download them to the device first?  This seems like a pretty basic thing since it's fundamentally the way podcasts work in iTunes.
I did try syncing a playlist full of podcasts to the iPad, thinking that maybe then the iPad would stream those podcasts... but the playlist comes into the iPad completely empty, not a song in it.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Um, where did I say iOS was useless?  Any particular reason you're attributing a quote to me that I never said?  Also I did not make any conclusions, I asked two questions.  It may behoove you to learn the difference.  Since you're going to be snarky, I will in my response as well.
    Specifically, I asked:
"Are iOS devices useless as podcast streamers unless..."
To further clarify since you don't seem to follow the logic here:
If an iOS device can not stream a podcast that was added via iTunes, then
If the user (that would be me) does not wish to have to find their podcasts all over again within the Podcast app, then
iOS devices are useless as podcast streamers unless you find the podcast from within the iOS device itself.
This is pretty basic logic.  I am in no way suggesting that iOS is useless, or that iOS devices themselves are useless.  My statement was quite specific as to the exact conditions under which they appear to be useless, and so far nobody has shown this logic to be incorrect.  I welcome showing me that the logic is incorrect by explaining how exactly I can stream the podcasts that are already in my iTunes playlists from my iPad.
I will take a look at Stitcher radio and see if it can play my existing podcasts in iTunes.  Adding podcasts to the Podcast page in iTunes is no help because that does exactly what I want to avoid - copying the actual Podcast media to the device.  This would exceed the capacity of the iPad (64G model) by at least 10x.

  • How can I fix app downloading issues?  Can only load/update apps via sync with laptop.

I cannot download, reload,or update my Apps via Wifi. I can only accomplish this by syncing the phone via iTunes and laptop via cable. When I choose to install or update I get a "waiting" message indefinitely.

Issue solved. I found that there was a PodCast that had not finished downloading for some reason. I deleted the PodCast app and all PodCast downloads and Apps download fine now.

  • What kind of server power needed for 500 simultanious podcast downloads?

OK I run a VBulletin forum
We have average 500+ people on line at the same time, some times as many as 750..
I want to do some podcasting at the time of a trade show, relating to the forums topic.
What I DONT want is for the forum and server to grind to a halt because we suddenly get a lot of 'pull' / bandwith use because of podcast download / streaming.
Is there anywhere i can go to get info on the tech / server requirements for podcasts and the load they put on servers?
    Thanks v much in advance!

I would suggest just hosting your MP3 files on libsyn
    http://www.libsyn.com
They are setup to handle a lot of podcast bandwidth.
Remember there is no need to host your MP3 files where you have your main site - Just the XML (Rss Feed) should be on your main site.

  • How to RESUME a podcast download?

When podcast downloads stop for some reason, there is the option to RESUME the download. But in my case (am I the only one?) nothing resumes: the download restarts from zero. Why?
In my case that is very frustrating. I live in Indonesia and have a very low download speed: it can take 9 or 10 hours to download a video podcast of 20 minutes. I can still live with that. But what makes it frustrating: if there is a short power blackout or internet disconnection (they happen often!) I must restart my download from the beginning. Sometimes 10 attempts are necessary.
Also the PAUSE button in my iTUNES has a problem: it does not pause/interrupt the download, but stops it and I must start from the beginning again.
    Any solution or alternative?
I am subscribed to 3 daily video news downloads, so would prefer a solution that still can handle automatic downloads...
    Thanks

I also did a little digging and many others are having the same problem and this has been a problem for a long time. It seems to only occur when downloading Podcasts or iTunesU files, while the Apple Store seems to pause and resume correctly. Here's some links of those who have the same problem, but there are no solutions from within iTunes.

  • [SOLVED] "No codec present that can handle the stream's type" issue

Hello. I got a python program that would play musics on a website, which doesn't work for a "no codec present that can handle the stream's type" issue. I have installed things like gstreamer, gstreamer-plugins, gstreamer-python, gstreamer-ffmpeg, and libmpeg2, etc. However, this issue still remains. Would someone here be able to help?
    Here's the error message:

Sorry. I just found the reason. I missed gstreamer-ugly in this case.

  • Streaming Podcast Interupt 8530

    Hi Again,
I was using my 8530 to stream a podcast in mp3 format.
It was working great until and email and then a twitter notification etc. event happened.
Everytime the streaming podcast would start at the very beginning.
I ended up downloading it to listen to it later.
However I don't see a way to make a  setting so that those notifications won't interupt the stream.
    Or is there a way??
    Thanks
    Robert

    Tiki,
iTunes does not stream. When you load a link to iTunes, your material has to be accessible to the internet. So when someone chooses to download the podcast, they are directed to your server and downloads from there. Podcasts by nature are not streaming videos.
Consider creating a streaming video and using streaming server service for customers to access. Your server will stream the material for them.
Hope this clears up streaming video vs podcast.

  • ITunes App crashes when streaming podcasts

    Hi,
When I stream podcasts from the iTunes app, sometimes it works fine, but most of the time, iTunes will either close all together, or close out of the stream. I will sometimes have to click to start the stream 4 or 5 times before it will actually play. It has been this way with every OS I have had installed on my phone.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I should clarify--I'm not trying to stream, per se, but rather my entire music collection is on a NAS. In the past I've added all this music to my itunes library so I can sync with iphone, etc. It's sometimes slow, mostly because of the ridiculous "gapless playback" check, but usable. Itunes 10 is completely worthless--couldn't even get the library loaded without an eternal spinning ball. If anyone else has had this issue and has updated to 10.01 successfully, please let me know. I don't want to go through rebuilding my library again if the update doesn't work.

  • Podcasts download but do not show in "Podcasts" on iPod

My podcasts download properly into iTunes but I can't find them on my iPod. I thought I found the solution by manually copying them to the Podcasts folder, but that no longer works. This always used to work automatically but lately does not (new version of iTunes problem?).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, as I said ive spent hours looking for answer and I think I might have it. My issue is a video podcast not syncing. I find now that some do sync and others dont. I find the problem lies with videos not being compatible with my 80g classic ipod. I used to get warnings, now I dont probably because I clicked the 'dont show this warning again' button or due to a software upgrade is just didnt show up one day. Anyway if you go to page 16 of this discussion down the bottom in a thread started by 'lynnhopes' the answer there is all about resetting warnings. I re-set my warnings and it showed me a warning saying the podcast i was trying to download is not compatible with my ipod. Question is - is there anything on settings which CAN make it compatible???

  • Why won't my podcasts download in the app over a Wifi connection?

Why won't my podcasts download in the app over a Wifi connection using the Apple app on my iPhone 5?

  • Podcast Download Error -39

This has happened to me three times now. When I am in the middle of downloading a podcast, my computer has either frozen or lost internet connection, so the podcast download gets interrupted. Once I restart, or reconnect to the internet, and go back to the list of podcasts, the one I was downloading is grayed out. I push the "Get" button next it and I get this error message: 'There was a problem downloading (said podcast). An unknown error occurred (-39). Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again.' I have tried resubscribing to the podcast and even reinstalling iTunes. I didn't know if maybe there was a partial file saved somewhere that is making iTunes think there's still a problem. I don't know where to look for that though. Anyone else had this problem before or know what I should do to fix it??

Okay, I had the exact same problem. I restarted by computer during the middle of a podcast download because my computer froze. In order to fix this, (I'm using a windows XP now):
    1. Go to the start menu.
    2. Click on search.
    3. On the left menu, click on all files and folders.
    4. Type the episode name of the podcast.
    5. Results should come up.
    6. Click on the folder that is named after the podcast episode.
    7. Delete the two files located in the folder. (2 in my case, they were named download and something else I can't remember)
    8. Retry your download.
    9. There you go, you got your podcast!

  • Can no longer play podcasts downloaded on itunes on 2nd generation shuffle, is there a fix?

Ever since the latest version of itunes was unleased (Apple is so going downhill if this is any indication) my ipod Shuffle 2nd generation (I have 2) will not play podcasts downloaded on itunes. I get orange, green, orange, green lights and then nothing - because the ipod cannot recognize the files apparently. They both do the same thing, I load, they show up as loaded on itunes, I press play, the lights. If I download the podcast from the originator site directly, they play no problem. I have the latest update for the Shuffles, have reset them numerous times and yet the problem persists. I only use these Shuffles to load podcasts daily. I remove them as soon as I listened and then put new podcasts on the next day. Why do I have 2? Because I bought a second one when this started and I thought the Shuffle was broken - now both act exactly the same. Even old podcasts that played fine months ago will not play on the shuffle any longer. Is there any fix? I assume someone else is a podcast listener and is having this same problem and maybe has a solution.

Switch the mode to single plat, not shuffle.

  • Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) all of my music wiped off my phone.  Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G? Any ideas?

Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5, 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) almost all of my music has vanished from my phone (weirdly some hasn't).
Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G (all tracks greyed out), though my network settings etc are all set correctly.
Lastly since upgrading to iOS 7.0.1 (and beyond) Genuis has become effectively useless: it continually asks me to connect to wi-fi, and if I do it creates playlists mostly composed of tracks by the same artists or those very obviously linked to them- previously it created brilliant, nuanced playlists.
Are these things connected, and how do I fix them?

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!
