Streaming rented movies on ipad or Apple TV

Is it possible to stream rented movies after purchasing them? After sitting down with family I happily rented a movie from iTunes only to see that I have a 2h wait before we can watch it. I was surprised not to see it listed under purchased media. I didn't even realize that it was initially downloading. I frequently purchase SD episodes from my iPad or phone and access them from my Apple TV account. I am confused as to why I cannot do the same with a rented movie.

I appreciate the input. I gave iTunes another chance later that evening following the suggestions of others to use the Apple TV itself. Unfortunately the Apple TV does not always allow the rental of SD content which is usually cheaper and faster to download. I was still disappointed to see that even on the Apple TV the content did not stream and was required to download for more than an hour. The point of frustration is that rental content must be downloaded to any device at all. It is time consuming and unnecessary for something that is by definition temporary. It's not like it even has to be done that way. Many services allow streaming of rental content and even on iTunes if I were to purchase any of the same media it would be available to stream from any device on the same account. Some mentioned that they hate explaining that process. Apple used to be known for how intuitive its devices were. Known for anticipating new ways to use technology and the needs of its customers. It is ridiculous that there is a process to explain at all.

  • Streaming iCloud movie from iPad to Apple TV via AirPlay resulted no picture but sound.

I notice that movie (iTunes purchased) that store in my iPad 2 when AirPlay to Apple TV 3 everything fine but for iCloud movie streaming (iTunes purchased that store in iCloud), I only manage to get sound from Apple TV 3, no picture. Apple TV only displayed running time. This happen after Apple TV new updates few days ago. Before update, everything is fine.
I used iPad 2 to stream iCloud movies to Apple TV because the streaming is much faster than using Apple TV 3 own streaming which some times the buffer took quite some times to load.
And why on my iPad 2 which still running iOS 5.1.1 the AirPlay icon missing the Mirroring on/off icon. In AirPlay I can only choose iPad or Apple TV but without the Mirroring on/off icon.
If I AirPlay iTunes purchases movies (iCloud Streaming) to Apple TV, my Pioneer AV amp decode Dolby Digital 5.1 but if I connect using Apple Digital AV Adapter via HDMI into Pioneer AV amp, I only manage to get PCM Stereo track.
If the iTunes purchases movies have been downloaded and store on my iPad 2, then either AirPlay or using Apple Digital AV Adapter via HDMI, my Pioneer AV decode Dolby Digital 5.1
I planning to purchase Mac Mini for storage iTunes purchases movies and listening music plus some PC users. Should I ditch Apple TV or should I use both ?

That app has not been enabled for airplay, it is up to the developer to do so

  • HT1657 How do I transfer rented movies from iPad to Apple TV

Although my Apple TV sees all my iTunes so previously purchased and I am able to download movies and other product from ITunes, the Apple TV is requesting. Three or four digit security code ending in 1359
I do not have any such code
    Please help
What do I need to do to seamlessly rent or buy movies on Apple TV????
    Regards,
    Fernando Calero

The method is exactly the same as in previous versions of iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1390
The only difference now is that by default the iPad will appear as a button at the upper-right of iTunes:
Click that all all should then work as per the directions. You can also go to the View menu and select "Show Sidebar" and iTunes 11 will then look substantially like earlier versions.
    Regards.

  • HT1657 cannot rent movie on itunes with apple tv

cannot rent movie on itunes with apple tv it tells me to go to itunes store on my desktop and everything is upto date here

    Yes that's perfectly possible.
The drawback is the rental needs to completely download before it will stream to the Apple TV.
The advantages are it can then be watched on any Apple TV if you have more than one and can be watched as many times as you want (within the rental period) without needing to redownload it everytime.

  • HT1491 i rented movie on ipad. when i click play it says cannot open. any suggestions?

i rented movie on ipad. when i click play it says cannot open. any suggestions?

At this point I would contact iTunes by:
    https://getsupport.apple.com/ServiceOptionAction.action
iTunes > iTunes store > connecting and downloading > movie rentals > chat or email with iTunes.
They should tell you what to do or how to fix it.

  • Itune rented movies to ipad

Itune rented movies to IPAD. I have downloaded and moved many movies to ipad for my travels. I just downloaded 2 rented movies today to my imac, and now it will not let me move to my ipad. Itunes claims I have already downloaded to a device. I have used this process many times. Did something change?

I just had the same problem and someone posted the below, which fixed it!
Deleting the SC Info folder also worked for me. See "Remove the SC info folder" on this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1389

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Rented movie in iPad won't play in Apple TV 2

Today I rented Unstoppable in my iPad form the iTunes Store, the idea was to use airplay to send it to my Apple TV 2 and view it on my TV.
Every time I try to use Airplay to stream the movie from my Ipad the Apple TV 2 returns the message that is not authorize to play the content from the iPad.
Anybody have any idea how to fix this?, I am using the Apple HDMI cable and both devices are login to the same Apple ID. I have restore to factoring settings my Apple TV 2 and restarted my iPad several times, I also have log out of my Apple ID and log back in in both devices.
Do not know what else to try any help would be appreciates.
    Thanks on advance WFGE

It is supposed to function as i described (true/false?)
False, per the link provided above:
"If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer."  The only way to transfer a rented movie is if you rent it from your computer, and then it can be moved around to other devices but (a) it can only exist on one device at a time, and (b) you cannot move it to Apple TV 2 or 3.  It is odd that you can't do what you want, but I'm not a lawyer ;)

i'm renting SD movies from iT so copyright issues are in the full control of AAPL on all AAPL devices
I don't know the legal agreements between Apple and movie studios, but with a rental you don't own the material so I suspect that is the difference.  With a purchase you're given some leeway that you don't have with a rental.

It has functioned as described; rented iT movies on iP and played through ATV to Video Monitor on many occasions in the past - as recent as 8 days ago.
Your original post mentioned that purchases worked, not rentals.  Have you ever seen a rental stream from your i-device to Apple TV?  I wouldn't think so, given Apple's statement above.
    MickCharles wrote:
All other streaming functions from iP and iPh to ATV; music, photos, and home-made video function
These would not be subject to the same copyright issues as a movie.
You can try taking this up with Apple, and depending on who you communicate with (and your approach) may determine your success to get a refund.  Apple does state that you can't stream a movie from your device to ATV, but perhaps not clearly enough (which you might use to your advantage).

  • Streaming Rented Movies Error (Apple TV 2G)

    Hi,
I just purchased the new apple tv but the problem is when i try to preview the movie or play rented movie, i always get this error message "An error occurred while loading this content".
I dont know what to do, i tried restarting the router or plugin the Apple tv direct to the Ethernet but still the same problem.
P.S The Apple TV is updated the latest version 4.2

i have had a few errors each one unique, one is the standard error loading content. the other errors are something about needing an hdmi cable umm got one lol.. and the other error is the authorization.. i find simply unplugging the apple tv and plugging it back in works.. i don't use my unit very often its a trail thing..so far im impressed with the quality but not overly impressed with the amount of errors i get its only like a month or three old. id love to see more streaming 1080p content i would drop digital cable if they supported the 1080p and had a few more networks that carried some of my favorite shows.. i have tried resetting it and that don't do much either so i dono *shrug*
anyway if someone ever finds a work around or a fix let me know because unplugging and plugging it back in gets a little friggin annoying but it works.. if you don't mind the hassle

  • Streaming movies from iPad to apple tv

    Hi
I have just updated my iPad software to the new iso.
I am trying to stream movies from my iPad to the new apple tv but I can only hear the sound and I don't get the actual vedio.
The main reason why I got the apple tv was that I would be able to stream vedio to the tv from my iPad.
Please let me know what I need to do.
    Thanks
    Itai

I am with you on that. I can stream music from the iPad straight to the home cinema system through apple tv. I can also use the iPad as a remote to stream movies and pics from the Mac.
But can't seem to throw movies or photos directly from the iPad to the screen via apple tv.
Another annoyance is that as I type this from the iPad the cursor clicks can be heard through my home ent system as I am streaming music from my iPad simultaneously.
    Any help!

  • Cannot sync iTunes purchased movies to iPad 4/Apple TV

I'm getting sick and tired of iTunes issues that have been reported time and time again, but don't seem to get resolved.
Issue: I buy a film in either HD or SD from iTunes. I then try to sync said film to my iPad and I get the error that it cannot be sync'd as my iPad cannot play the movie. However, if I download the same purchase directly to the iPad, it plays without any issue whatsoever. This is also the case for my Apple TV (1st Gen).
Technical: iTunes version: 11.0.5, Mac: MacBook Pro (late 2008) with 8GB RAM running OSX 10.8.4, iTunes Library running on TimeCapsule (currently 680GB in size). iTunes manages locations and files.
S.I.V. (Sphincter Irritation Value): 9.6 (out of 10) - this issue costs me a fortune in lost monthly download allowance as I frequently end up downloading the same thing twice.

I belive the Apple TV (both current version and previous version) only have 8GB of cache, so this is less than what most people would have in even the basic iPad model (16GB).  But the Apple TV is designed for streaming from another source (iTunes server for rented movies, your Mac over iTunes sharing, Netflix server, etc.)  The iPad is designed for WiFi streaming but due to agreements with the cellular carriers, they don't want to host all of that bandwith for streaming movies over their data networks.  At least, not at this time.  Perhaps that will change with 4G?  Even so, that level of data use will probably be expensive.  It would be more economical to buy an iPad with more RAM next time (or trade up -- I sold my old iPad on Amazon for almost what I paid for it and got the model with more RAM).

  • AppleTV wont stream rented movies

Since the recent update for the appleTV, i have been unable to stream rented itunes movies from my mac book pro to the appleTV2.  All I get is that busy signal on the tv screen (the flower petal circle indicator).  I only have this problem with rented movies.  I can stream purchased movies with no problems.

I'm having a similar problem with my rented movies.  I rented a movie from my iMac, and am trying to view it on my Apple TV, and I'm getting the error message that the content could not be loaded.  I get the flower petal circle indicator, then the screen switches to what looks like the movie starting (the movie time indicator is now at the bottom of the screen), and then I get the error message.

  • No option to delete rented movie on iPad!

I rented a movie on my MBP via iTunes and synced it to my iPad. It ended up expiring and now I see that it is on my iPad, but there is no option to delete it. From iTunes, there is no option to sync or delete rented movies any more (the whole rental section of the Movie tab is GONE when I sync my iPad.
I un-synced all my movies, but that deleted other movies i had synced, not the rental!
What is going on here? I have nearly 2 GB eaten up with a movie I can't watch or remove!

I finally called Apple Support to get the answer to this question.
1st, make sure you are signed in on your computer under the Apple ID that purchased the movie.
2nd.  Go into the summary page of your device on ITunes. Near the bottom you will see "options".  In that section you will see "manually manage music and videos".  Select that option.
3rd.  Then go to the "On this Phone" click the RENTAL sub section under your device. This depends on the version of ITunes you are using.
4th. Right click the movie you want to delete.  The popup box with the delete option should appear.
5th  After it deletes (which will take quite a while) remember to go back into Options and uncheck the option for"manually manage music and videos".
