Streaming swf - is it possible?

i've been using capitvate to create an online user guide -
but the files are rather chunky...
can i stream a swf file, like i would video? is this
possible?

as far as i know it is not possible. you can convert it to
flv and then stream it using the FLVPlayback component.

I need to be 100% sure whether or not the following scenario is possible within Adobe Flash Player / Adome Media Server security contrains:
website and swf file are hoted on server with given IP number xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
media and streaming application are hosted on server with IP number yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy
generally speaking:
will yyy media server accept connection from xxx client ?
will xxx client accept streams from yyy server ?
I urgently need this information as I need to decide some specific media streaming solution for the customer.
Of course - I mean both servers being hosted (virtual) services rented by the customer at third party provididers.
Please feedback asap!

Yes this should not be an issue , a client from "xxx" can connect to FMS at "yyy" and stream the data. There should not be problem at both ends.

A2dp streaming to mac mini possible?

i have 10.5.7 installed, and have my mac mini hooked up in the living room to my stereo music system which includes some pretty kickass speakers. With the new iphone 3.0 software now supporting a2dp streaming, as well as having a macbook with some of my music, is it possible to setup a2dp streaming from iphone to mac mini so that my music plays through mac mini to my stereo system? i can see so many uses for them, guests with their iphones with music, plus my gf has her macbook with her own music, and i know i can do some form of library sharing, but it would be much much simpler for her to simply be able to connect via bluetooth and stream music over bluetooth rather than use her macbook while at the same time using kb and mouse fo mac mini to stream her music, too complicated for her to bother with it.
also no, i cant and do not want to buy an airport extreme, mainly because i alreayd hvae too many wires in the living room and am trying my best to cut down on them, secondly because i dont want to spend 150-200$ on it, and thirdly my mac mini connects with my stereo via a usb dac, and theres no input to be able to plug in a separate music bluetooth receiver.
this doesnt jsut have to apply to streaming from iphone or macbook, its a general leopard/software question on how to go about accomplishing something like this.

As you have already figured out poor signal strength equals poor bandwidth performance. This, of course, will be noticeable for both audio and video streaming.
I suggest downloading a copy of iStumbler. Use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at different points around your house, by performing a simple RF site survey. Within the Inspector, note the values for "signal" & "noise" at these locations. Start with your MacBook near the Time Capsule (TC), note the readings, and then, go to the location where you currently have the Mac Mini.
SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
The SNR, as measured from the MacBook, decreases as the range to the base station increases because of applicable free space loss. Also an increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
SNR Guideline
o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
If the SNR is 20dB+ at the Mac Mini, then you should be getting reasonable performance from your TC. If less, either try to locate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating either the TC or the Mac Mini until they are within a 20dB SNR range.
Another option is to utilize a transceiver on the Mac Mini to try to increase the Mini's built-in AirPort antenna ability to pick up the signal from the TC. One vendor that provides these is QuickerTek.

Streaming swf fails in version 10 worked in all previous versions

We store all our files in a database and use code to suck it out of the DB and send it to the webclient, usually of the form
previewfile.swf?id=12345
or navigate2.php?id=12345
We are having the problem in both a .NET application running under IIS and a PHP application running under apache, so its not due to the platform and the code has been working fine for the last 5 years and is still working for everything else!
These have been all working fine until we upgraded our players to flash 10.
If we copy the downloaded and save it the hard drive and request it from an actual url
i.e. https://wigle.com/fred.swf the same file works fine.
Looking at the logfiles, all the requests are being successfully made and sent out, so any ideas whats going on?
Does the latest version not support streaming of swf files?

Could you link to an example that shows this code in use? From your description, I can't be sure what's happening. (My best guess is that it's prompting you twice for the cost instead of just once)

Interactive .swf in an interactive .swf, is it possible?

I'm building a portfolio for my Digital Arts program. What I
need to do is place and existing, interactive .swf (or if I need to
change that, its fine, I have the Flash file) into a new Flash doc.
I want it to maintain its interactivity and not play through itself
automatically. I would like to allow this to happen in the main
window, if at all possible.
When I import the .swf, it comes in with all of its layers.
When I test scene, it just starts playing through as soon as it
comes into existence. I've tried changing it into a graphic with a
single frame play, but then it is just a static image. I've also
tried reexporting the original as a Quicktime VR, but then when I
import it, it is a string of key frames.
I'm using Flash 8 Pro.
Any help on this issue would be brilliant. Thanks.

Try to load it in level as levels can run independent to each
other.
Look up "loadMovieNum" action in your help files for details.

Sure. However, you need to model data you need to stream. You can use javax.xml.ws.Provider interface support in JAX-WS but u need to convert your relational data to XML to stream across.

If the swf has actionscript in it, then you cannot embed it and still have it work (it will lose its code), so you need to load the file dynamically instead.

We are streaming flash swfs from a secure folder using an ASP
script. All has been working well for some time, but now fails with

We have the same problem as well and it has broken our site
completely. VB.NET code below. Any help/insight would be greatly
appreciated. One thing I have noticed is that it does not seem to
be a problem with .flv files, only .swf. The strange thing about
this is that when playing the movie in CS3 it loads and plays fine
on my local machine getting the streamed content from the remote
server which leads me to believe that this is a security issue.

Stream video during conference possible?

Is it possible to play a youtube video for example during a conference? I can share my screen, but the audio does not pass through. Anyone have any success doing this?

I understand this is quite old topic but the question is actual for a lot of developers.
The problem is that Flash ActiveX doesn't contain a method that plays movie from any source except file path or URL.
So there are two approaches are possible:
1. Emulate file by creating a fake file that provides data from your array. You may BoxedApp SDK for that, look here: BoxedApp SDK Features
2. Use special .net component that provides this feature: http://f-in-box.com/dotnet/

Streaming-Sync is it possible?

I was looking all over for an answer to this issue im having. I have my ATV set to stream all my media content. The thing is, when ever there is a new Podcast that has been downloaded to iTunes I have to click the sync button to make my ATV see it. Are there any settings in iTunes or ATV that will make the ATV see my newly downloaded podcasts without me actually going to my computer to sync them? I highly doubt there is because I swear I went through every setting atleast a dozen times. On a seperate note, is there a terminal command that I can run to make iTunes sync?

So if I just let my ATV just sit there it will eventually sync up with my primary iTunes library without me hitting the sync button?

I do operate a little trick (if that's the right phrase) to ensure that my library gets updated regularly, you may be able to do something similar.
I have an eyetv stick which records tv programs and encodes them for the tv and adds them to itunes for me. I have selected one of the shows (which has an airing every night) to sync to the tv (all my others are streamed) using the '1 most recent' option.
As a result of this, each night after the show airs and the encoded file is added to itunes, the tv is automatically updated to reflect that there is now a more recent show to sync, syncing occurs immediately the show is added to itunes and of course every other change to the library is also updated at the same time.

After recently implementing Lync in our environment, i was asked a question by one of the users.
"Why cant Lync stream video files during conferences like Webex"
I researched a lot, even tried to embed files in powerpoint but there are a lot of restrictions and limitations and so on...
On the other hand, alternative solutions like webex and PGI are very much capable of providing this feature. which brings me to this discussion:
"REPLY TO THIS POST TO LET MICROSOFT KNOW THIS FEATURE IS IMPORTANT AND THAT THEY SHOULD ADDRESS IT IN THEIR NEXT RELEASE"

Live Stream with Slideshow (jpg), possible?

Hi guys,
I'm wondering if the live encoder has the ability to sync images with a live stream. I'd like to store all the images in one folder and push through a call on each slide during the presentation for the image to appear on screen. Obviously it'll never be 100% live but a little delay isn't a problem.
Accordent currently do this with PresenterPlus but i'm in search of a flash version which seems to be Live Encoder minus the slideshow.

On the Macintosh side there is the Camtwist app which allows you to do this and it works smoothly with FMLE. On the PC side I´m not sure but there just got to be more apps capable of this than on the mac side.

Controlling external .SWF...Possible??

I have an .SWF file which I created using the Flash Slide
Presentation document type. It consists of a number of screens. I
need to load this .SWF file into another Flash movie and control it
with actionscript, but I do not know the code. Could someone please
give me a hint at the code needed for simply getting this movie to
jump from one slide/screen to another? Or point me to a good
tutorial?

Yes, the loaded movie is accessible via the name of the
movieclip it gets loaded into. E.g., if you have an MC called
'ballMC', and load the second movie with
ballMC.loadMovie("ball.swf");
you can access it with
ballMC.moveBall();
But the movie has to be completely loaded, so you should make
sure it finished loading before calling it's methods. Also, code in
the frame of the loader movie will execute before the code in the
loaded movie. E.g., if frame 1 of the ball movie says
this.foo = "bar";
the variable will only be set after all code in the frame of
the loader movie is executed, so you can't use 'foo' in that frame.
To make sure the movie is loaded, use preloading code or the
MovieClipLoader class, which provides events that signal when the
movie is loaded (onLoadInit).
