Streaming Video from iPad to TV

This may be a dumb question.
I have an original iPad and Apple TV 2G. I would like to play movies from my iPad, via Apple TV, on my TV. When I start a movie on the iPad, and select Apple TV from the drop-down on the iPad, I get audio from my TV but no video. What is the correct setting on Apple TV to get video?
Thanks.

What app are you using and what AirPlay icon is available? Basically, it is the app and how it is programmed that determines whether or not you can AirPlay both audio and video or just audio to your TV2 device. For instance, the Videos app with let you AirPlay both audio and video content but Netflix, Air Video, and HBO GO apps will only let you AirPlay the audio portion of your content. This also holds true for web site multimedia content. Depending on how the site is programmed, a few will allow the AirPlay of both audio and video while most currently only all audio. If only a "speaker" icon is available, only audio can be AirPlayed. If a TV icon is available, then both audio and video can be AirPlayed.

  • Cannot Stream Video from iPad on AppleTV - Media Server Apps via Airplay

    Hi,
Need help on this one.  Am using iPad 4th gen - Apple TV 3rd Gen and iPhone 4S. (all latest firmware)
Last week was streaming video via Airplay using GoodPlayer and ArkMC apps on iPad to stream from my NAS (WD MyBookLive) via DNLA media server to Apple TV - Worked Amazing
    Upgraded firmware on appleTV.
I can no longer stream via Airplay from these apps - Airplay Icon appears - I can Select the Apple TV device for airplay (Checked - icon is blue). But no image on apple TV - video image stays on device.
Full reboot of both AppleTV and iPad.
Other software using server type setup (ex.:EMIT app) work perfectly and streaming directly from video on iPad works perfectly. (need to turn on the server on the computer though) or airplay enabled web sites and/or apps seem to work well also.
Mirroring works but the video is not full screen and wrong ratio.
Any clues ? I've lost this one.
    Thanks

Apparently what is happening, and this was brought up in another thread, and what I suspected was happening as well, is that the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch is not streaming the video itself directly to the AppleTV (it might be streaming it if it's audio only, haven't confirmed). What it's apparently doing is, is telling the AppleTV2 to download the video and play it on its own, starting with xx:xx timestamp directly from youtube or your iTunes library. This is why it's only working with your iTunes library or the built-in YouTube app. And also why it wouldn't work with the camera roll, because it isn't streaming directly from the iPhone. So it's not exactly what we were originally thinking or expecting.

  • I can not stream video from Ipad to apple TV!

    Hi
I have Ipad with iOS4.2 and I am able to stream audio from my ipad such as youtube, itunes but the video no luck any help please?

No, if you can't get it to work with the developer iOS 4.2 for iPad, you should file a bug report on Apple's developer site. The one they distributed is supposed to be the "Gold Master," so the released version will probably be the same.

  • Streaming video from iPad to Apple TV using Airplay

    Hey there,
I have the following problem which I havent been able to fix. I have an Apple TV (2010 model) and the latest iPad which I use to stream videos on my TV using Airplay. Everything seems to work fine, I am able to stream and whatch movies on my TV using my wireless network.
However, as soon as I purchased a movie and trying to stream it to my apple TV, I am only able to stream the audio through my Apple TV while the video is shown on my iPad. Both my devices iPad and Apple TV are updated with the latest software.
Is there anyone that shares the same problem or have a solution to this? As I said, only when the movie is being downloaded while I want to stream it on my Appe TV, I am only able to hear audio through my Apple TV. As soon as the movie has downloaded, I am able to stream both audio and video to my TV.
Thank you so much for your input.
    Sebastian

I have just experienced the same issue with the same setup and its very frustrating.
Wanted to watch a movie (Airplane 2), but couldnt find it when browsing directly on the Apple Tv, so switched to iTunes on the iPad, found the movie, and purchased it. I was thinking thatnwhen I purchased it, the movie would appear in my library and I'd be able to start playing it as it downloaded. I realised quickly this was not the case, and that it was just downloading on my iPad, so then I thought, well thats okay, I'll just start playing it on my ipad and airplay it to my Apple TV.... Which is where I met the same as yourself. Only the audio plays when trying to airplay a movie thats downloading. If I try to airplay mirror, I get the message ""the connected display is not authorised to play protected movies". Great.
So I've had to wait for the entire move to download, and now it airplays from ipad to AppleTV. I also then had to do a Transfer Purchases from iTunes, to get the movie into my library. Not very intuitive really and very frustrating when I wanted to watch the movie quickly.

  • Unabled to stream video from iPad with AirPlay

I'm having some difficulties getting video to stream from an iPad to my 2nd generation AppleTV over AirPlay. The iPad is able to stream audio just fine, but does not stream video through the built-in Video app.
When selecting to play the video to the Apple TV, the iPad screen stops playing the video and changes to the Gray screen that says the video is playing to the AppleTV, however it is not playing to the TV.
Both devices are running the most up-to-date software revisions. I have tried plugging the AppleTV into the router via ethernet cable to ensure that it's not a wireless problem, but this does not change anything. The only possible reason I am able to think of is that the wireless network these devices are using are not connected to the Internet.
If anyone else has suggestions, please let me know.
    Thanks

I'm running iTunes on my iMac, using an Airport Extreme, and two Airport Express's..one configured as a repeater, and the other as a remote speaker. I'm using an ATV1 running 24/7 as an audio server, broadcasting music to the Airport Express. I have an ATV2 in my bedroom connected to the big screen there. That's the one that does not forward video from my iPhone 3GS to the ATV2, ONLY audio? Is it possible, that the system can't support the ATV1 running AirTunes w/remote speakers, AND AirPlay on an ATV2 simultaneously??
BTW, I found that the song title that popped up in the title box happened to be the tune that my iTunes on the iMac happened to be sitting on (wasn't playing though). It put that in the same box on the screen as the Movie title I was playing from the iPhone 3GS over AirPlay? Sure that's not a bug?

  • Can I stream video from iPad to iMac?

    Hi,
can i stream video (movies) from iPad to my iMac?
    Thanks

There are ways to stream media from your Mac to your iPad, but I do not know of a method to go iPad to Mac.
Boxee is rumored to be preparing an app for iPad that may do that, but I have not heard that it is out.

  • Apple TV Won't Stream Video From IPad

    Hi,
I have some video's downloaded from the App Store on my iPad, the Apple TV will not play these. It will play the sound but no picture. The Apple TV wants to stream them from the cloud. I tried to turn off 'cloud streaming' on the Apple TV but this makes no difference. When I simply try to mirror it says the TV isn't authorised to play content.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I turned off my firewall, and it did solve the problem of getting the message in iTunes that I click "Ignore" on. But, it didn't solve the streaming problem with Apple TV. From Apple TV I go to my shared music on that iTunes (8.0.2), and the menu on the right comes up (Playlists, Artists, Albums, etc), but once I start clicking through it after about 5 seconds it just freezes up. Should I try a system restore on the Apple TV to go back to 2.2? It came with 2.2 and I ran the update to 2.3, so I'm guessing/hoping that a system restore would let me go back to 2.2. My hunch though is that it's a problem with iTunes 8.0.2 -- just a guess.

  • Can't view photos or stream videos from websites on iPad 3

When I go to a website with safari, I can't stream video or view photo galleries.  It tells me that I need adobo flash player.  That is not supported for this device.  How do I see photoographs or stream video from websites??

Jenpre.... keep your head down in that hurricane, and good luck. I hope it moves away soon for you all.
When I say "more modern", from what I've read many sites recognise that Flash can be a problem on mobile devices (phones and tablets) because it's very power hungry. So, if I understand things correctly, many sites are putting up html5 versions, which is supposed to be much easier on computers / devices. Quite oftne when I go to a site on my iPad it auto-diverts to the "mobile" version of the site, and I haven't found a single case where I can't see a video. To be truthful, even if not directed to a mobile version, I don't have much trouble with any of the sites I visit..... I can see most videos and pretty much all graphics, the same as I can on my Mac, which does run Flash.
Still, I'm sure a computing expert will know much more.
    Good luck in that hurricane....
PS... there are quite a few good hurricane tracking Apps you know....

can i stream video from an hd camera to an ipad?

It would depend on the camera, and the software, there are items like airparrot, drone camera, or video surveilance cameras that have ipad apps for viewing. A great deal more research is in store I'm afraid.

  • Unable to stream Videos from Mac and IPad 3 to TV

My Apple TV (1.Generation) is starting to work bad after an update.
I am no longer able to stream videos from IMac nor IPad 3 or IPhone 4.
Can anybody give me a help.
    Thanks.

Not sure if I'm missing something here. AirPlay is the newer audio video streaming technology Apple implemented into their devices. Airplay video from a computer requires a newer Mac running Mountian Lion and a 2G or higher ATV. Streaming video from iTunes to a 1G ATV still works, it is similar to AirPlay but is technically not the same thing.
Streaming video from an iPad or iPhone to an Apple TV is using AirPlay and also requires using a 2 or 3G ATV. These are hardware limitations no HDMI cable can fix.
If you can not stream video from iTunes by selecting it on your Apple TV you have a problem. If you are trying to send video to the ATV by selecting it on a device you need a new ATV and/or computer.
