Streaming video from networked drive to iTunes stutters!

So, my brand new iMac with the optional graphics card can't play movies bought from iTunes without stuttering a little. We store the movies on a recently bought ethernet-capable 250GB drive which communicates with the iMac through a new 100Mbps switch. iTunes plays these movies flicker-free from the local HD, but not over the network. Quicktime has the same issue. That networked drive is the "iTunes Music Folder Location" specified in preferences. This is iTunes 7.0.2. Music streams fine. I've set iTunes' preferences for "streaming buffer size" to "large."
We want to store the movies on the networked drive so we can easily add capacity and access them from other machines on the network. Sounds logical, right? Isn't that what these drives are for? Help! I want my Media Server!
We also watch TV on the iMac, using an Elgato eyeTV 250. It's fine, and caches 2GB of video during playback. When we tell it to write to the networked drive, it stutters a little too. Like one 'jag' every 10-20 seconds. When we use the local disk, it's seamless.
One thought: the iMac is cabeled to that switch with a 100-foot cable. A problem?

  • Streaming video from network source

Looking to access a third party network resource eventually.  But the other team building that has not completed it yet so I don't know what it will look like.  So in the mean time I was going to try setting up a stream from a LabVIEW web service and accessing it with the HTTP vi's not sure if this is the correct way to do this.  I think I am trying to read the XML stream.  No docs on how to do this.  Was thinking about using .NET to do this but I was hoping for a LV solution.
Anybody have experience streaming data from a web service?

Thats works well, but what I need is something that can stream from a webservice (not created by LabVIEW).  I was looking at using a LabVIEW webservice to simulate this third party webservice untill I get better information on this.
Createing the webservice that pushes the data out works fine.  But reading that webservice stream is giving me a 404.
I can use the "Get" method seems to work but it takes forever do downlod the data, so its not fast enough for video.

  • I need to stream video from itunes to apple tv with out using my 40gb hd.

i need to stream video from itunes to apple tv with out using my 40gb apple tv can it be done you see i have a 40gb apple tv and it's full and i still have lots more video (movies) in my itunes can i stream movies from itunes to apple tv with my memory full in apple tv??????????

Select the iTunes library on your computer from the Sources menu in Apple TV and then you can stream. If streaming is not smooth and your router has a multicast setting, try increasing the multicast bit rate. To return to the synced content on your Apple TV, select the Apple TV logo at the top of the Sources menu.

I am trying to stream video from iTunes store for the last 2 days and all I get is the message "iTunes store is unavailable. Try again later." I have tried turning it off, unplugging all cords, restarting it, reseting it, restoring it, and signing in and out again.  Netflix works, but iTunes seems to be bugging out.  If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

  • IPad Air and streaming video from local network

Hello everyone! I'm a new member and a new Apple device user.
I come from Android and honestly my experience wasn't negative or bad, but I was kind of sick of the look and feel of Android. I decided therefore to try something new, fresh and so well spoken of: the iPad Air (16 GB WiFi only model).
However this is not a review or anything so let me skip directly to the issue: streaming video on a local network.
In Android this is a basic thing, you can do it in several ways with several app over different networks (SMB, FTP, SFTP, DLNA (UPNP), etc.). The first thing I did is to try the FTP streaming with VLC: suffice to say that after a second it closes itself (the video, not the app), and this happens with all the videos. I've been searching for a working alternative but so far I found only paid apps. I cannot pay for something I'm not completely sure it is going to work. Free alternatives of paid apps are extremely limited (i.e: no audio or even no network streaming).
What I need to know is this: is it possible on the iPad Air to stream video from a local network (preferably SMB and FTP) without any sort of conversion or transcoding? What I would like to stream are video in 720p or 1080p, sometimes even 15 Gb Blurays. Files are either in mkv or mp4 format. I also always use subtitles.
Please let me know if this is possible.

you need to get apps from app store which does upnp and the likes there are plenty
you can do anything the app support but you can't use the normal build in movie player to play from smb or ftp
but search app store there are likely support for at least smb not sure about ftp it's a pretty old std which would result in transferring the whole file rather then streaming
start by looking for vlc in app store and then go on to upnp and smb use search

    1. Reset (hold the sleep/wake & home button until the Apple logo appears)
    2. Emptying the cache/cookies in Safari Settings
    3. Restore in iTunes

  • Streaming videos from iPhone 4s via AirPlay is very slow

. I took a few videos with my iPhone 4S when I was on vacation. When I try to stream them from my iPhone to my Apple TV, it buffers extremely slowly. However, when I stream videos from my MacBook Pro to my Apple TV, it buffers very quickly and plays very quickly. Based on that, I'm assuming that there's nothing wrong with my wireless network. So my question is, what could be wrong with my iPhone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Streaming video from mac to mac and from mac to Apple tv

I just purchased a iMac i7 with Snow Leaopard. Until now I were able to stream video from my MAC to Apple TV and to my other MAC wirelessly.
From my new iMac I cannot stream. Not to Apple TV (via iTunes) or from MAC to MAC.
A bit annoying when it worked fine before I got new hardware and soft ware.
Network is through a Timecapsule. I can still stream video (720p) from my Powerbook to my Macbook Pro (Leopard).
This be a iTunes 9.1 issue also.
Anyone else had this kind of problems.

Some people forget that AppleTVs do not appear automatically in new iTunes libraries, especially if they originally configured it once a long time ago for another library.

How can I stream video from my laptop to apple tv while doing a different task on my laptop?  I want to be able to stream a video to my tv while browsing the internet or working on writing on my laptop. Thanks

You would have to use airplay within iTunes then, unless you want to use 3rd party software (ie Beamer)

  • Streaming video from Macbook Pro to 46 inch LCD

I am trying to stream video from my 13 inch Macbook Pro to my 46 inch Samsung LCD TV. I am using a HDMI cable to a DVI cable to attach the computer. When I play videos from iTunes, the picture looks great, however when I am streaming video from an internet site such as Netflix, the picture is not great (it almost looks pixilated). I am wondering, is this an issue with my computer (video card, etc) or does it have to do with my internet connection (I currently have the lower DSL connection)? Is there any other way to make the picture look better? Thanks for your help.

Yes, forget streaming that way, .....the ANSWER youre looking for is the APP BEAMER
you cannot stream youtube, rather ON COMPUTER video and movie files.
    free trial to test it

for streaming elsewise, use VLC STREAMER

  • How can I stream video from a P/DVR to my Mac

Hi, How can I stream video from a Motorola dcx3400m P/DVR to my Mac? I have tried a Slingbox but the audio is out of sync witht the TV and it drives those watching on iPads or on the iMac in another room NUTS.
Is it possible to use a TV tuner of some sort. I've looked at the eye TV thing but I live in Canada/USA region and the eye TV products all seem to be for Austrailia or the UK. The one product that might work is a DVR and I don't need to pay for that as I already have one.
    HELP!
    Jeff

If your Mac has an audio input jack you can connect the output of a cassette machine to it (3.5mm stereo jack required). However many don't, so you will need a USB audio interface - Roland make a range. Alternatively you can buy cassette decks with a built in audio interface.
You will need a program to record and edit the input: Audacity is free and is often bundled with USB-enabled players.

  • How can i stream video from mac os x 10 using roku to my tv?

how can i stream video from mac os x 10 using roku to my tv?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X can't write in NTFS disks. If you want to write in NTFS drives, you have to use a third-party app like Paragon for NTFS, being this application the best one to write in those disks.
Another option is to format the external disk in FAT32 or exFAT on a PC, so you will be able to read and write in Macs and PCs without having to use third-party apps. Do it on a PC and copy the files of your external drive to the internal disk first
