Streaming video in from Windows PCs?

Hello all-
I am buying a Mac mini, for use as a media PC. Ideally, what I'd like to do is set the mini up on my TV, and be able to use it to stream media from my rather extensive collection, located on 2 other PCs, one running Windows XP Pro, and one running Windows Small Business Server. The 2 PCs are wired to a wireless router, that would then take it wireless (G, possibly N, been thinking of upgrading, not the point... I can deal with date rate issues) to the mini accross the room. Is this possible? This is where I confess to being a total Mac newbie. Can you simply map a drive location over the network like you can in Windows, and have it accessbile from within Front Row? Thanks.

I don't have a Windows PC to test with, but as long as the Windows volume is shared and mounted on the Mac, you could put an alias (shortcut) to the Windows PC's video folder in your user's Movies folder on the Mac. As long as you can manually open and play the videos with the QuickTime Player application, you should be able to play them in Front Row. The same set-up works between two Macs on a network.

Avermedia (A327) Hybrid mini Pcie Tv Tuner (NTSC/ATSC)
I purchase this system used without an operating system. I installed windows 7 and downloaded the drivers from Hp. All drivers are installed properly and the Avermedia (A327) mini card driver can be seen in device manager.
Yet, the A327 tv tuner will not give me access to the s-video input. I can get tv thru the rf connection but I want to use the s-video because it has a cleaner signal.
Any information about the s-video port will be appreciated..
    Thank you..

    Hi Cnmarsh,
I understand you are having an issue with the Touchsmart Iq506t with  Windows 7, unable to access s-video input from Windows Media Center.
I read from your post that drivers are installed properly and the Aver media mini card drivers are seen in device manager.
I was wondering if the any of the drivers in Device Manager have a Yellow caution?
Also, is the Touchsmart Iq506t software all up to date?
You could try to download and run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool with this link.

    Hi rafromffx,
You can use AirPlay to stream content from an iPad to your Apple TV. See this article for how to do it and the requirements -
Use AirPlay to wirelessly stream content from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • Cant stream video sound from ITunes to stereo via Airport Express

I'm using a PC with wireless (Centrino 802.11g) with Itunes (Latest release 7.0.0.70) and for some reason the sound from Itunes video will not stream wirelessly to my stereo connected to my AirPort Express.
When the video is embedded in an Itunes playlist of MP3s, the sound will work fine through the AirPort Express with the MP3 tracks, but will toggle over to the PC speakers for the video.
    Any ideas gratefully received?

Airtunes actually only support MP3/AAC audio streaming from iTunes. That's too bad for video.
The things is, even with other Airtunes streaming software, the streaming delay is such that the song will be off by a few second from the video. I guess Apple have choose to do not stream video sound until this may be resolve.
Therefore, I'm not aware of any solution to this issue.

  • How do I get my videos(camcorder) from Windows PC to Ipad 2

Convert them to an iPad compatible video format and then import into iTunes and sync them.

  • Possible to stream video podcast from MacBook to Apple TV?

I am trying to stream podcasts from iTunes on my Mac Book Pro to my (lastgen) Apple TV. I am able to use it as speakers and play audio podcasts, but so far no video.

Finally version 2.4 offered this feature! Was about time, but thanks Apple.

  • Streaming video playlist from iTunes = ATV = TV

I expect this question has been asked, but I could find any specific answers with a search.
Does ATV allow video playlist streaming from iTunes to a TV? I would like to confirm that this capability exists before a purchase. Objective is to have my computer's iTunes feed a TV via ATV for a extended period of time (~8hrs) by playing a video playlist.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks to you both for your comments. Disappointing that a feature that exists (video playlists) on the Classic iPods doesn't exist on the ATV yet. Guess I'll wait until it does.
    Join the queue....
Video playlists is an often requested feature for those of us who want to watch random music videos or for those who want to use the device to display a consecutive selection or repeating selection of videos.
No harm in sending feedback here, specifying you are not buying it as it doesn't have the feature:

  • Streaming videos slow from sites that recently worked OK.

Video streaming from some sites, e.g., http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Referee-Programs/2011/09/Referee-Week-in-Review-Wee k-28.aspx, and others,
recently working normally.  Now, extremely slow streaming to current 2011 21" iMac, old G4 'mushroom' Mac and Intel Powerbook (core duo).
BUT THEY JUST RIP ON AN iPad!  SpeedTest shows about 10 Mbps download.  Similar slow result for wired ethernet connection and over Airport.

It's an intel Mac, 2.66GHz running os10.5.8. I normally use Safari unless it crashes- then I use Firefox. Safari is 5.0.6 and Firefox is 3.0.6. Both Safari and Firefox have had their fair share of crashing recently, but it doesn't seem like the video streaming problem lies in the browser. The computer itself seems to run very hot during video, which I'm sure is relatively normal, but maybe it's been overheating or something. If I let it cool off for a bit the picture gets better but still not close to perfect. I just want my iBook G3 back- that thing worked like a charm for 7 years haha

  • MBP Video output - from Windows

    Hi all,
My MBP outputs video to nearly any device beautifully.
Today I'd booted into WinXP because the streamed content I wanted to watch can't be view on the Mac.
The output was dreadful. It almost looked like I was watching a PAL video on an NTSC display.
Does anyone have an idea what happened?? How can I correct this?

  • Problem connecting to shared folders on Mac from Windows PCs

I am having problems using windows file sharing SMB to share folders on my Mac with windows computers on the same network. I have added a folder in 'Sharing' in System Preferences, and added a user account with SMB set to 'on', but none of the windows computers in the network seem to be able to access the address that is stated.
I can access shared folders on the windows computers from my my Mac with no problems.
    Can anyone offer any advice.

I got it to work. Instead of using share\username I instead used share\short name and it connected. However, it is not very obvious from the account preferences panel how to see or modify the short name. I just read that you have to right-click the account name in the account preferences panel in order to see this. I'll give it a try soon.
