Streaming video link to play inside PDF

I'm not having any success placing a .mp4 streaming video link in Acrobat Pro X that will play inside (not embedded) the PDF. My client has provided me with a couple of links, and the video tool field accepts it, but nothing plays. I can download and embed the actual file from my desktop fine. Being a long time print designer, this is my first attempt to create an ebook with video from an existing print project - so i have limited understanding of formats, server behavior, and such. Can anyone help me?

Thank you for the quick response.  I misunderstood.  I was thinking that by using the widget and an H2.64 video for iPad (mp4) that together it was creating streaming video in a PDF that is not converted to Flash or swf, which as pointed out is not compatible with iPad. So, the pupose of the widget is that it allows streaming of video (e.g. mp4) for a PDF viewed on a computer vs. embedding the actual video in the PDF?  ..and it still converts the video to Flash?
My goal is to have an iPad workbook of sorts w/ a video player that is streaming the video vs embedding it.
-  PDF seems to be out unless I want to link it and have the video open in a browser.
-  I tried creating an epub using InDesign, which allowed me to embed the mp4 and played on the iPad fine in iBooks, but it makes the epub file large and I'd rather stream the video.
- When using the "place a video from url option" in InDesign, the epub will not play the video in iBooks and only shows the poster image.
Do you have any recommendations or even other Adobe tools that will help accomplish my goal?
thanks!

  • Videos don't play inside blogs?

How come my videos don't play. I thought you could just drag and drop a video inside a blog and it would turn it into a podcast or at least could be watchable. It just goes to a no page apple thing.
As you can see, I am just figuring it out..

    thanks for the help

To start with you should only have to specify your short iWeb URL in order to reach your pages. The problem with using the longer page URLs is that you are likely to change these (and with them, the URL), whereas the short iWeb URL will always lead to your default start page.
    http://web.mac.com/latelyoften
Try that. Goes to your pages just fine.
As far as your video goes, there are some pages in your blog that aren't even there anymore for whatever reason. It also seems that on some pages, your movie files are no longer present. Have you been picking through the sitefolder possibly?
For starters, I would strive to keep a single format for your movies. You want them to be able to be played while they are downloading, so I recommend enabling what is called "fast start" in your movies. Don't know what this is? No problem. I'm about to give you a one click kind of fix for your video files.
Try downloading this program called iSquint. You can get it at http://www.isquint.org . It's a free program, so there's no reason not to give it a shot. Basically, all you have to do is to open this program, then drop all of your movie files into the list window, then select a quality setting using the slider, and hit go. Your movies will then be automagically converted to a very uniform .mp4 format complete with fast-start enabled. All that's left to do is to drag your newly formatted movies into iWeb and put them on your podcast pages.
After you are done placing your movies where you want them, I would highly recommend doing a "Publish ALL to .Mac" command under the File menu. There are currently a lot of strange things going on with your site with missing pages and what not. This "Publish All to .Mac" command will clean everything out and lay everything back down file by file...and with your new movie files. I think you will find a real improvement!

  • Streaming video will not play in Safari

When I get to a website with streaming video (and some ad banners, etc) a Quicktime symbol with a question mark appears in the video place holder. I've downloaded the newest version of the Quicktime plug-in and checked all my settings. I don't remember doing anything specific to change any of my settings. HELP! Thanks.
    Mark

I answered my own question. If you go to System Prefs, Quicktime, Advanced, MIME Settings and at the bottom, ensure the Miscellaneous box is not checked (it will have a dash in the box). This will allow FlashPlayer to play the movies since most content is built for FP. QT will only support up to FP v5 and FP is now on v9. Hope this helps someone.

  • Video won't play in pdf

I've tried searching but wasn't able to find much info other than Adobe made some changes to the way it handles videos from version 8 to version 9.
Working in Acrobat Pro - ver 9.  I added an MP4 video to a pdf document and then optimized it to version 6.  After saving it, I have no problem playing the video within the document nor does anyone else using version 9 Acrobat / Acrobat Reader.  however, no one using any version prior to 9 is able to play the video.  the first frame of the movie appears but the "Click to activate" never happens.  I'm assuming, with little evidence, this is a version issue with the codecs or something of that nature.
can anyone shed any light on this for me?
    thanks!

I don't do it much, but if you can attach the files to work in another application (they would have to have), that is the simplest. You may have to distribute the multimedia as separate files if you go back far enough in versions. I don't remember when they started embedding the files in the PDF. The problem you are having is that the older versions just don't have the players built in and they have to use a system player.

  • Embedded video won't play in pdf

I've embedded a MPEG video in a CS3 document and made a pdf, checking all the boxes InDesign Help tells me to do (I checked "interactive elements" and "Multimedia: Embed all"). It plays great on my computer but brings up errors on anyone else's machine when viewing the pdf. What am I doing wrong?

That may be it. I hope Sony Vegas can save files as Quick Time. I
can't buy a Mac just for this . Thanks for the help.

  • Embedded Youtube video is not playing in PDF while it is playing in Adobe Content Viewer - Indesign CC

    Hi,
as a newby to DPS with Indesign CC, I'm currently working on a catalog that contains internal jumlinks and embedded youtube video's.
All works fine in preview (Folio Overlay > Preview on desktop).
Then I export to Adobe PDF (Interactive).
When I open the PDF the internal links work just fint.
But the Youtube video is not popping up.
    To embed the video I've inserted this code: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6EXxtnTOnqA?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" ></iframe>
And I've selected 'autoplay' in the Folio Overlays
So what am I missing here?
    Thanks for you help,
    Dimitri

    Hi Bob,
Like I said I'm a Newby, I even don't really understand what you mean with this.
I'm working in de Digital Publishing toolset (I thought that was DPS).
I use Folio Overlays over the embedded youtube code, with autoplay on.
Than I export to PDF interactive, but neither Adobe reader, nor Preview is showing the vid.

  • Streaming videos don't play properly with Adobe flash player 10.1

After I updated Adobe flash player I noticed that videos I streamed did not play correctly. A video will begin to play but part way through it will freeze. It will indicate that it is buffering but it never finishes buffering and never continues to play, even if I refresh it. This occurs for several sites such as youtube, megavideo, and wisevid. This occurs for every browser I have tried (Firefox, IE, and Opera.) I also realized today that now iTunes cannot not download video either. When I try it says that parts of the files seem to be corrupted. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash several times but that has not helped. I am using Adobe 10.1 (under version test it says it is WIN 10,1,53,64) and I have Windows 7. I'm not sure if my computer is 32-bit or 64-bit. I don't know how to check this. Please help me with this. I have been trying to fix this for days and nothing has helped. Thanks.

to check your computer configuration, right click on mycomputer and click on properties.
There you can see if its 32 or 64 bit.
But as the flash player is working fine on IE, i assume its 32 bit.
Even i use the same configuration and its working fine on all browsers.
Is it a specific video you are trying to load?
Are you sure about your internet connection speed?

  • Stream video with air play?

I always come late to the party...
We have two new iPad mini's. Currently we sit in bed and watch netflix or hbo go or whatever on one iPad with a splitter for the audio.
Isn't there a way to use airplay and have the two iPads each display the same vid simultaneously?
I've just started using air DROP, so please answer as if I were a dummy :-)  I've yet to try air play...
    thanks

  • Video is not playing from rtmp URL

    Hi there,
I've a rtmp url with mp4 video link to play in InDesign CC. I'm creating a frame and in media panel selecting 'Place a video from a url', providing rtmp link with mp4 extension but it's giving me error 'Download failed because the URL could not be verified'. But the URL I tested and it plays the appropriate video.
Can anyone help me out to fix this issue ?
    Thanks in advance
    Mac

I’m not sure that’s even supported. I’ve never tried it, either.
Again, though…What is the intended output for this file? PDF? SWF? DPS?

  • Streaming Video in IE for mac quicktime

I am trying to watch live streaming video of sports (sent only for IE) on MacBook platform using Mav version of Quicktime. I also have downloaded Flip4Mac (Free) to covert video to play on MacBook desktop using Quicktime. When tried I get the message "backgroundimage failed"
When I play smple clips of Quicktime and Mediaplayer, they play OK.
The sample clip of the website I am trying is:
    http://willow.tv/EventMgmt/UserMgmt/Packages.asp?eid=102&dclip=false
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    B.

That is exactly the problem. That site tansmits for IE browser.
However, I was told that Flip4Mac is supposed to convert WMV files in to Quicktime
files so that the streaming video can be played on Mac platform.
How can make them work together?
    Thanks.

  • Does Captivate 7/8 support *Dynamic* Streaming Video for synchronized Multi-Slide videos?

I'm experimenting with inserting Streaming Video into Captivate Lessons.  I've set up an Adobe Media Server (AMS) to stream the video.
When inserting Multi-Slide Synchronized video, it's not clear whether/how I can insert a Dynamic Streaming Video link in a synchronized Multi-Slide Video.
(The Dynamic videos can switch between videos of varying quality based on the user's available bandwidth.)
I think you're supposed use a URL that points to a manifest file (.F4M), which catalogs the videos of varying bitrates.  However, I can't seem to get it to work in Captivate and Adobe is a little vague on how/if one references the manifest file. (i.e. I can't find any examples.)
So, does Captivate support dynamic streaming video?
If not, which is more robust in Captivate? HTTP progressive download or regular (non-Dynamic) RTMP Streaming Video?

    Thanks Erik.
We did some more tests/checking-around and have convinced ourselves that the URL needs to point to the manifest file in order for Dynamic Media Streaming to work.
When we examined the Adobe Media Server sample web page (below), we found buttons to select different media sources.
The 'Multiple Bitrate' button under RTMP Dynamic Streaming Sample is mapped to the URL of an F4M (manifest) file.
The 'Single Bitrate' button is mapped to an individual mp4 file.
We also found more clues in the FlowPlayer RTMP F4M page.
Also, I'm guessing that Captivate can't handle adaptive bitrate streaming from non-RTMP sources based on the menu options. (See screen capture below)
If the menu above is correct, the first choice is the opposite of streaming media, because it says 'Progressive Download'.  (Progressive download caches the video file on the client machine.)
The next one is for private Adobe Media Streaming and the third is for 3rd-party Adobe Media Streaming services.
So, I'm pretty much convinced that it's not supported.

  • Is it normal streaming video lagged through AirPlay?

I just got new iPad and new AppleTV, I played streaming video on my iPad, (which is an app using wi-fi bandwith), I also turn on AirPlay on iPad and mirror to TV through AppleTV2. The router is AirPort, I believe the mirroring also use wi fi bandwith, the result is that the video is lagged so much and can't even watch.
However, if I use AV cable connect directly from iPad to TV, the streaming video is normal, play perfect, so is it case normal? I don't know if streaming and mirroring use the double bandwith to cause the problem, any advice??
    Thanks
    ziwy

Mirroring always works fine for me, your network may have a problem such as interference.
Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • HTML embeded video is not playing on DMP

We had created asp.net website first page is outputing a simple grid control that is working perfectly fine. On second page we had embed a video that is playing inside the media player control through html.
Second page is blank on DMP, please suggest way forward as if we view the same website to a normal PC both of the pages are working.
Any help in this regard will be highly appriciated.

    Hi Muhammad,
Playing the video embedded in HTML is not a very good idea on DMP since the built-in DMP browsers has some limitations compared to a laptop one.
As per the DMS content creation best practices, it is already not advised to use pages generated by ASP.net: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_2/dmd/best/practices/guidelines.html#wp1167395
To solve your problem, maybe you could consider using a playlist that would first display the html page you've created and would then display your video as a content taken from the DMM and not embedded into HTML?
You would end up with something that would look more or less like this:

  • Satellite A660-07U freezes when Streaming video

    I bought a Toshiba satellite A660 07U 2 months ago.
From the beginning, when I try to watch any streaming video from Facebook,Youtube etc, my system totally hangs and keeps on making zzzzz....noise and I have to manually shutdown the notebook by pressing the power button.
This is happening very often now. I contacted toshiba support and the response was to change my microphone boost settings in Volume configure..:smileysurprised:.
Does anyone have any tips for solving this problem?

    Hi,
Today this also happened while I was watching a movie on DVD.
The graphics card is NVIDIA and I have updated the driver for it.
Once it freezes I can't check the background processes as the whole system ceases to respond.
I don't think its a problem with the player as streaming video is sometimes played with WM, sometimes with Real player.
Toshiba claims this laptop is a special edition as a media entertainment tool with blue ray dvd player.
I am a software engineer and i do run heavy softwares like Visual studio and sql server database on this pc but never had any problem, but only have this freezing problem while playing video.

  • Streaming flash video will not play automatically. Must move the mouse off the link

I have 4 computers, all running Win7. On every one, Internet explorer. 2 have firefox 3. 2 have firefox 4. When clicking a link on a website that has live streaming video (flash) - the stream changes to the next one and the video feed begins right away. Works fine on all 4 computers in IE, and in both Firefox 3. The video starts when the mouse is clicked, or when the screen is refreshed. On both computers with firefox4 - the mouse click loads the new feed, but the video hangs on a white screen until the mouse pointer moves. same problem when the feeds are set to auto-rotate. they load every 30 seconds, but unless I physically move the mouse, no video plays (or click the 'next feed' button again, which gives a split-second peek at the video feed I am navigating away from), I need to monitor many security cameras, and this is excruciating. Safe mode does not help. I have the newest versions of everything. please tell me this is a bug and not someone's bright idea
