Streaming video on youTube

My neighbor gave me an eMac for my 9 yr old daughter to use. I upgraded it to OS 10.4.11 and it works fine except for watching streaming videos. Both Quicktime and Flash stutter in Safari, but since I've reinstalled Quicktime it works only on Firefox. I cannot watch Youtube or Yahoo Trailers on either Safari and Firefox. I've reinstalled Flash a half dozen times, including the newest version- and an earlier 9.0.277.0 version--but the video still stutters. I've tried resetting the Pram and fixed permissions as well.
My internet connection is good, my MacBook Pro plays everything.
Is something interfering with the Flash and Quicktime? Anything else I can try?
eMac
OS 10.4.11
700 MHz PowerPc G4
1GB SDRAM
Safari v. 4.1.2
Quicktime v.7.6.4
Thank you,
Ayse Francis

Hi Ayse,
Issues with Internet connection speeds aside, I am afraid that the age and speed of your eMac is what is causing your stuttering issues when streaming video and YouTube. Your eMac is just not up to the challenge. Plus, YouTube uses video codecs that are designed to run on more recent, modern computers.
Your eMac's CPU and, especially, the eMac's bulit-in video card are just not able to handle the type of content and codecs that a lot of streaming video sites use now. And, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the issues are from the fact that the the highest Mac OS X version you can run is OS X 10.4 Tiger. Your eMac is 6 years old and your OS version is 4 years old.
I have single 1.25 Ghz CPU with a fairly speedy video card and 2 GBs of RAM running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard on a DSL connection and I can watch streaming video in MP4 format from YouTube, but my Mac struggles, sometimes, with 720p HD videos from YouTube and can't play 1080p videos at all.
You could try and wait and load a good chunk of the video before streaming it or use a program like MacTubes to actually download YouTube content and watch it directly from your eMac without streaming it.
You may find these latter procedures may help make the experience of watching videos on your eMac a better experience.

  • Hello. I've Apple TV 3rd gen and MacBook Pro 2013 all with latest updates. AirPlay works fine till I don't start streaming videos from YouTube. After that AirPlay icon from MacBook menu bar simply disappears. Could some help. I'm using 2 Mbps Internet

Hello. I've Apple TV 3rd gen and MacBook Pro 2013 all with latest updates. AirPlay works fine till I don't start streaming videos from YouTube. After that AirPlay icon from MacBook menu bar simply disappears. Could some help. I'm using 2 Mbps internet connection.

Same issue here- I can airplay my amazon prime library just fine from my iphone 5 but on my macbook- (mavericks, 15 inch 2013 retina with quad core i7, nvidia 650 M and SSD) it just sputters and lags.
I have noticed web video is considerably worse than local content, giving me pauses of up to 2 or 3 seconds in which video stops but audio continues in the amazon player. Youku video, however, seems relatively stable. Our subscription speed is 25 mbps, so that should be plenty to stream SD video from Amazon and doesn't account for why it would be nice and stable from the iphone, but not the mbp.
Playing light, locally hosted steam sidescrollers  like Limbo is better but gives periodic drops in framerate on the Tv. when mirroring the framerate remains steady on the MBP screen.
Games airplayed from my iphone seem relatively stable, though with a noticably lower framerate on the TV than on the phone.
It seems these issues have abated considerably since yesterday's Apple TV update, but are still curious nonetheless and I'm not sure that the update yesterday was specifically meant to address those issues or if I'm just getting a time with less network interference now.
Comcast recently installed a new router/modem/phone combo, replacing our old separate modem and router setup. I'm going to test if putting the network on a different channel helps.

  • While watching streaming video content, Youtube for example, and I click on the fullscreen button, the screen goes white.

The video plays fine but when I try to watch full screen, the whole screen goes white. The right-click menu comes up and I am able to chose one of the options but the corresponding window does not appear the screen remains white. If I click on the screen the video stops and starts (I can tell by the sound). The escape keys returns the video to the normal size within the browser page and the window for the option I chose from the right-click drop down menu appears over the video.

Flash and other of your plug-ins look a bit dated, please review [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20plugins#w_updating-or-re-installing-your-plugins Updating or re-installing your plugins], perform a plug-in check and update as needed.
See if the problem still occurs with the latest Flash version.

  • Youtube (generally streaming video)

    Hi.
I have a problem streaming video from youtube (and other similar websites).
When i try to play a video it sometimes does not work or when i am lucky works EXTREMELY slowly.
If i unplug the airport and simply connect directly to the internet the problem vanishes.
    My ISP is Clearwire.
    Any help would be appreciated.

if there are other networks on your channel, or on an adjacent channel (channel number same as your +/- 1), then you can try changing to a channel that is in a clearer area
altering mtu didn't help, but it is possible that changing some of the other tcp/ip parameters could improve things
if you aren't familiar with command-line methods of doing it, there are a number of freeware/shareware tools that allow you to adjust parameters
this is a commercial one ($30), but it has a free trial period so you can see if it helps you identify any useful parameter changes...

  • Viewing Streaming video on E61I

    Hi,
Recently got the E61i device, and have an unlimited data plan, but I am unable to connect to any streaming videos on youtube or any other site. It says cannot connect to server, I checked with the CARRIER and there is no restriction from their end, so do I need to turn some settings on or something from my end to watch and stream videos ? Thanks for the help,

Which web sites with video streams are you trying to connect to (besides YouTube), and what video file and streaming formats do they use?
YouTube uses Flash Video, which the Flash Lite player and browser in the E61i does not support. Mobitubia or emTube are applications that might help in that respect.
See this table for the audio and video formats supported by the E61i:

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The 8900 does come with 3G. There shouldn't be any difference streaming video in or outside.
Try a reboot and attempt the streaming video again... With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Streaming Video Capturing

    Hello,
I would like to capture streaming video/audio (youtube, etc) as a quicktime, avi and so on. I heard about Snapz Pro X but that costs $70. I also heard that VLC could do it but I can't figure it out. How do I capture streaming video onto my computer for relatively cheap. The cheaper the better of course.
    Thanks in advance.

iShowU ranges from $20 for the Standard Definition version to $30 for a HD version and $60 for a Pro version.

  • After updating to firefox 5.0, I can't download streamed videos using realplayer recorder, I can play them

After upgrading to Firefx 5.0, I am unable to use Realplayer recorder, to download streamed video from youtube, I can play it no problem. It worked in versio 4 without any dramaas.

    HI Juanverano,
Not a problem, Safe Mode will disable addons and hardware acceleration. If this continues and it is not an add on this will be the next step to try to disable acceleration:
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • The streaming video freeze down very frequently,e.g youtube videos.

I can not watch a streaming video uninterruptedly. It freezes down very frequently for 10-20 seconds and then again starts working.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
