Streaming video slow - Safari or broadband at fault?

When I try to watch some streaming video from the BBC or Channel 4 (UK), the streaming is sometimes erratic and long pauses occur, which I assume is a delay in the data arriving with my Mac. I've got a router rather than a modem, which I thought evened out the data flow. Can anyone tell me how I can check if Safari, my broadband, or the web site is at fault?

Can anyone tell me how I can check if Safari
Try another browser for a bit to see if it suffers the same problem:
[Opera|www.opera.com]
[Firefox|www.mozilla.com]
[Camino|www.caminobrowser.org]
If they suffer the same problem, we at least know it's not Safari (but could be the Flash plugin they all use for the streaming video).

  • How to download streaming video in safari?

What is a good procedure to capture all formats of possible streaming video using Safari. I have used firefox for years with plug- ins, but not Safari. I do not want the procedure to convert the format, but save the streaming in the original format.

    Use 4K Download:  https://www.4kdownload.com

  • Streaming video requires Safari 4 or 5 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

"Streaming video requires Safari 4 or 5 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Safari on iOS 3 or later." it says on the keynote streaming video page. My iMac is not even 2 years old and they cut us out already? I've got Safari 5 and I've got leopard running. I understand that technology evolves but has there been a dramatic change in the way video is compiled for streaming or something?
    I do not like this.

This is just a user to user discussion. If you have a two year old Mac, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard for just $29.95. Mind you, that might make other software not work, so read this FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
Not all streaming video sites requires these specs. Any that do are limiting their own accessibility and customers. Read this website:
    http://www.anybrowser.org/
It will give you hints as to how to proceed when encountering a website that limits its accessibility.

  • How can i stream video from Safari my MacBook Air to Apple TV.

I've been tryingt o stream videos from my Mac Book Air to Apple TV that is connected to my projector but dont seem to see any options in safari to stream to Apple TV.  Have anyone tried this?  Is this possible?  My IPad can do it but dont understand why Mac Book cant.  Please assist!

I Figured it out!  I put the Display chooser into the toolbar on the MacBook Air and there is a little selection that allows Mirroring.  I switched it on, got video, sound, and a happy man on my hands.  AND I found the correct answer myself, heh, heh, heh.

  • Can't find any discussions on this.  Suddenly cannot stream video in Safari or Chrome on my iPad 2.  The error is "The operation could not be completed."  Rebooted cable modem and router, no luck.  No problem with my PC.  Help!

Suddenly I cannot stream video on my iPad 2.  I get the error, "The operation cannot be completed."  The browser (Safari or Chrome) continues to try to load the video with no result.  I have no problem streaming on my WIndows PC (laptop) using the same WiFi router (Netgear dual band) connected to my Comcast/Xfinity cable modem.  I have tried renewing my lease, clearing apps out of memory and rebootng the iPad, still no luck.  (How do you do a "hard reset", I forgot?)  Frustrating since I don't own a TV and am an Al Jazeera addict!  Help!

  • Vividas Streaming Video and Safari

In an attempt to see a video that apparently uses Vividas Streaming video, Safari gives the following error message:
Can't use Java Script here. Cannot run the script "set Mac Loaded Percentage (0)" because Safari does not allow Java script to used in this way.
At least Safari gives an error message. Both Netscape and Internet Explorer just quit when I try to access this video.
I am not an experienced computer user and do not know about Java but would really like to see this video and my internet server could not help. Thanks for your reply.

If you have items connected directly to the computer, do you have issues? Try connecting 2 peripherals at a time to your computer (or 3, if you have that many USB ports on the computer) and see if they work fine. If so, the problem may be with the hubs you're using.

  • Suddenly I can't stream videos with Safari

    Hi everyone,
Something weird is happening with Safari. For some reason I don't seem to be able to open videos in Safari, instead it will try to download them.
For example, I go to the Mac Video Tutorials, choose for example the Mac Basics section, and when I click on the Click To Play button, instead of playing it, it sends some small QuickTime file to Speed Download... I have tried to disable Speed Download in Safari, but it just keeps doing the same thing!
Anyone has any idea what might be the cause of this, and how to fix it?
    Thanks a lot.

Well, I guess it was my fault! In Speed Download's preferences, under types of files to be intercepted by its plugin in Safari, I had .mov selected, which was causing this to happen.
I simply turn that off and the problem went away
    Problem solved.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Streaming videos slow from sites that recently worked OK.

Video streaming from some sites, e.g., http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Referee-Programs/2011/09/Referee-Week-in-Review-Wee k-28.aspx, and others,
recently working normally.  Now, extremely slow streaming to current 2011 21" iMac, old G4 'mushroom' Mac and Intel Powerbook (core duo).
BUT THEY JUST RIP ON AN iPad!  SpeedTest shows about 10 Mbps download.  Similar slow result for wired ethernet connection and over Airport.

It's an intel Mac, 2.66GHz running os10.5.8. I normally use Safari unless it crashes- then I use Firefox. Safari is 5.0.6 and Firefox is 3.0.6. Both Safari and Firefox have had their fair share of crashing recently, but it doesn't seem like the video streaming problem lies in the browser. The computer itself seems to run very hot during video, which I'm sure is relatively normal, but maybe it's been overheating or something. If I let it cool off for a bit the picture gets better but still not close to perfect. I just want my iBook G3 back- that thing worked like a charm for 7 years haha

  • Does apple TV let you stream videos from safari using your iPad 2x?

I'm considering on buying an apple tv but if it only has those 10 apps it can stream from my Xbox is capable of doing so as well. If apple tv doesn't stream using safari how can I have that option available so I can watch online videos on the iPad 2x using safari Internet browser?

http://www.apple.com/appletv/what-is/  Provides a lot information about apple tv, review it.
Also if you're using airplay mirroring and choose the full screen option from a video player in safari it'll play full screen on your apple tv.

There is no iOS version of flash because adobe gave up-they could not make something that was not buggy crash prone power draining security hole.

  • Streaming videos slow

Hey, for some reason my computer can't seem to stream online videos for longer than about 10 minutes. The audio remains intact but the video becomes choppy and within a couple minutes it's like watching a noisy powerpoint. I have a ton of free disk space and everything is updated (as far as 10.5 goes). My computer has been having some trouble recently- it runs really slowly if I use it for more than 20 minutes (doing anything- word processors, itunes, anything) and I don't know what to do.
If you have any ideas that run deeper than "do you have any free disk space" or "have you spilled water on it" please enlighten me

  • Why can't I stream video from safari mobile to my apple tv?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't iOS 4.3 supposed to bring the ability to send my video I am watching on Safari Mobile to my Apple TV?  As of right now, and I am running iOS 4.3.3, all I can do is send the audio from Safari to my Apple TV.  Does anyone have any ideas?

I thought AirPlay was only for iOS5 devices (IP, iPad, iPod).

  • Audio only when using iPad with Safari: can I view live streaming video via Safari?

I only get audio on streaming broadcasts when I click on the AirPlay Icon in the progress bar? Can anyone help me get the video to display as well?

Websites have to have content in compatible format AND also need to allow video streaming - if both conditions are not met then Airplay will often give sound only.
If iPad 2 try turning on full mirroring (Home button twice, swipe all way to right, Airplay and set Mirroring slider to on).

  • When streaming videos in safari, my cursor often disappears.

How do I solve this problem?

    Troubleshoot Safari extensions ..
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click: Remove All Website Data
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
    Not empty the Safari cache.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches. Now try a video.
And make sure your OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click:   Software Update
