Streaming videos over home network (KDE)?

What do I need to be able to stream videos over home network in KDE?
I tried to do it with ssh, both graphically and by terminal (Network>AddNetwork>ssh) and it didn't work. It tried to download the file. I was reading this is some kind of bug in the KDE.
What else can I use to stream videos? Samba? Avahi?

IMO, it would be best to abandon SSH completely. Its going add undesired overhead to this project.
I use mediatomb to stream content to PS3 and HTPC running Arch: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mediatomb
If you just want to be able to access files locally from a remote server, use NFS to mount the desired remote folders: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NFS

  • Streaming video over http

    Hello
I need your help to understand how streaming over http works
In our company we have about 600 users who will be able to view streaming video over http hosted in Internet
We have 100 Mbps Internet link . What can we expect to happen in the network when there is contention for resources to access video on our network which delivers best effort service for video
We have enough bandwidth 4 gigs in local area network to core , so there's no real bandwidth cruch
How to differentiate or monitor bandwidth used for http streaming as against http normal traffic
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

    One step closer:
Changed the crossdomain.xml file (more permissive settings).
Changed the encoding on FMLE to vp6. Working somewhat (don't know what I did to make it start streaming through hds).
But at least now I can get the individual streams in the set manifest file to work:
    http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livevent/livestream1.f4m
    http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livevent/livestream2.f4m
    http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livevent/livestream3.f4m
BUT when I try to play the streams through the set manifest file from http://localhost/liveevent.f4m I'm getting the following error:
"The F4m document contains errors URL missing from Media tag." I'll search the forums to see if anyone else has come across this problem.
I used the f4m config tool to make the file. These are the file's contents:
    <manifest xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/f4m/2.0">

  • Facing Problems in Streaming Video over internet using FMS 3.5

I,am using FMS 3.5 to stream video over internet. This video will be a part of a website www.mywebsite.com . I have the webserver in my company. This webserver has the local LAN IP : 192.168.10.19 which is binded with a public internet ip 212.77.xx.xx .This website is hosted using IIS 6.0 on OS windows 2003 server with SP2
I created a swf name sample.swf from sample.flv file and gave it the rtmp address as follows:
rtmp://192.168.10.19/vod/_StreamingVideo_/sample.flv   (where _StreamingVideo_  is the instance on the server, and 192.168.10.19 is the LAN IP of server) ,and it worked fine and every one within the local company network could see the streaming video. Now i tried to replace this local address with the public address and the address became as follows:
    rtmp://212.77.xx.xx/vod/_StreamingVideo_/sample.flv
After giving this public IP in the rtmp address i,am getting a message "Failed to load Flv from the address rtmp://212.77.xx.xx/vod/_StreamingVideo_/sample.flv" and as as result the video is not streamed and it only shows the progress bar on the link
www.mywebsite.com/VideoStreaming/Sample.html without loading the video. I have also checked the ports 80,1935,1111 on the server and they are open. Is there any problem with my rtmp address with public IP or any other reason ??. Please help me out in this regard because im realy stuck here.

Adding to my previous post this is the XML output i get when i try to access the fms admin console from local ip address i.e http://192.168.10.19:1111/fms_adminConsole.htm

but when i try to access fms admin console through public ip (http://212.77.xx.xx:1111/fms_adminConsole.htm) then it gives me the following :

  • IPad air has trouble streaming videos over Wi-Fi when Bluetooth is enabled

With Bluetooth enabled several video streaming apps have trouble. Videos are intermittent and choppy. But when I turn Bluetooth off, the problem goes away immediately. I'm streaming videos over Wi-Fi, and I tried changing the channels of the Wi-Fi network, but nothing seems to help. I've also tried switching video streaming apps with no difference. Has anyone else noticed these problems with Bluetooth?

    Hey,
    I have the same problem!
Apple, do you have an answer for this? How can we fix this?

  • Problem sharing videos over home sharing network

I have two computers. They are connected over a wireless network and I have home sharing setup.
I can play music on both computers, and can play what I don't have on one over home share from the other. The same cannot be said of movies. I can see the movies in home sharing. I can even drag and copy them through the network from one machine to the next. The movies will play on both computers once it is actually located on the machine itself. It is my understanding I should be able to stream the movies over home share, without having to transfer the file itself first. I am unable to do so.
    Thoughts? Thanks!

This has been a problem for a while. Please report it to Apple.

  • Help Getting iTunes to Stream Through My Home Network

Hello- I have a PC running XP and recently purchased a new Pioneer Elite Audio/Video home stereo reciever. It has built in Windows Media networking so that I can evidently stream music and pictures from my home network through the RJ 45 port in the back of the machine. My television a SONY Bravia has the same feature and requires this same Windows Media File Sharing stuff? I have no idea what I am doing but someone told me I had to install Windows Media Player 11 in order to do this as iTunes was "not compatable" with WIndows Media File Sharing??? I guess this makes sense but now that I have Windows Media Player 11 it cannot find any of my iTunes music in the iTunes folder- not even when I point Windows Media Player 11 directly to the folder. Does anyone know how to help me step by step in a simple explanation? My thanks in advance. By the way my connectivity IS working as I am able to see my server- jsut not the content. Thank you.

    Hiya..
When you change over modem, you almost always need to do a complete reset of the TC..
Factory reset it by holding in reset and then powering on the TC.. keep holding reset in for about 10sec. until the front led flashes rapidly. Release and do the setup via ethernet to a computer.
Set the TC in bridge mode. That is basically all you need.
Setup wireless however you prefer .. you can use same or different SSID (wireless name) to the u-verse modem router. Or turn one or the other off.
I guess this is pretty common question here.. if you do a search for u-verse in the TC discussion area you will see lots of posts.
If you still have issues or cannot find them.. just ask again.

  • Streaming video over WiFi very slow

Hi, I started to dealing this unpleasant issue since I guess I updated to last firmware on my Apple TV. Now when I want to stream video from my MacBook or iPad over wifi, the picture is not fluent at all. It is cut (not sure about this word). When I connect my MacBook through ethernet cable, it works just fine. Apple TV is connected by cable to my network.
Anyway I was able to stream practically any movie in any quality and it worked. No I cannot stream nothing at all! :/
Does somebody experience the same issue?

If you have an Apple Store nearby, book an appointment with the Genius Bar and get them to check it over.
If you don't have an Apple Store nearby, take it back to the retailer and explain what's happening and see what they have to say.
Or, you could call Apple Tech Support give them the details of the problem and see if they can suggest a fix.
Before doing any of the above, you might want to try restoring the iPad to default settings and then set it up again (back up your iPad prior to this to preserve apps and date etc) to see if this rectifies the issue.
    Hope you get it sorted

  • ATV over home network?

    Hi
I'm just about to have a wired network (cat6 or fibre optic) installed throughout my home as part of a refurb, with bridged airport extremes as access points. Is there anyway that I can use this network to watch movies on ATV in different rooms?
    Thanks

No, you cannot stream HDMI output over a home network then put it back into a HDMI cable and view it on mulitple TVs. You can use cat6 cable as an extension cord for HDMI, see HDMI over ethernet, but don't be deceived as this is HDMI over an ethernet cable from point A to point B not over a network.
Mainly this is true because the bandwidth requirements for HDMI are measured in Gigabits/sec which exceeds the throughput capacity of your airport extreme (1 Gigabit/sec).
Generally speaking, its a better solution to share the compressed HD source(mpeg2/4) and uncompress it once it gets to your entertainment center.
Put an ATV in front of each TV, then each one can stream or sync content from your computer. Plenty of people streaming to multiple ATVs from a single mac mini. If you look up the prices of HDMI over ethernet which would only work for ONE TV, you could buy multiple ATVs.
Enjoy that rocking network your building.

  • IPad Air and streaming video from local network

Hello everyone! I'm a new member and a new Apple device user.
I come from Android and honestly my experience wasn't negative or bad, but I was kind of sick of the look and feel of Android. I decided therefore to try something new, fresh and so well spoken of: the iPad Air (16 GB WiFi only model).
However this is not a review or anything so let me skip directly to the issue: streaming video on a local network.
In Android this is a basic thing, you can do it in several ways with several app over different networks (SMB, FTP, SFTP, DLNA (UPNP), etc.). The first thing I did is to try the FTP streaming with VLC: suffice to say that after a second it closes itself (the video, not the app), and this happens with all the videos. I've been searching for a working alternative but so far I found only paid apps. I cannot pay for something I'm not completely sure it is going to work. Free alternatives of paid apps are extremely limited (i.e: no audio or even no network streaming).
What I need to know is this: is it possible on the iPad Air to stream video from a local network (preferably SMB and FTP) without any sort of conversion or transcoding? What I would like to stream are video in 720p or 1080p, sometimes even 15 Gb Blurays. Files are either in mkv or mp4 format. I also always use subtitles.
Please let me know if this is possible.

you need to get apps from app store which does upnp and the likes there are plenty
you can do anything the app support but you can't use the normal build in movie player to play from smb or ftp
but search app store there are likely support for at least smb not sure about ftp it's a pretty old std which would result in transferring the whole file rather then streaming
start by looking for vlc in app store and then go on to upnp and smb use search

  • Sharing c3180 on w7 x64 over home network to x86 instances

    I have a c3180 connected by usb to a windows 7 x64 instance.
This printer is shared over the home network and shows up on other machines (all windows 7) as an available printer but upon printing jobs will just sit in the print queue indefinitely and not be printed.
I believe this is because I do not have the x86 drivers that the other machines require installed on the windows 7 x64 machine to which the printer is connected.
On setting up printer sharing there is a button for 'Additional Drivers' which allows installation of x86 drivers.  Here I can select to install a x86 'Type 3 - User Mode' driver but on oking this it asks for the location of the driver .inf file which I do not have and cannot find.
Where can I get the x86 driver from?  I can only download the 'all in one' driver & software package from the hp site which I do not want as it's only the tiny driver file that I am after.
Thanks in advance for any responses.
    John

    Hi,
This issue can occur by incompatible printer driver. Since the driver is made by third party Manufacturer which we do not have enough Knowledge about it, to resolve
the issue, it’s highly recommended to involve the manufacturer for further assistance.
As an alternative method, I suggest you move the printer and connect to the Windows Vista machine directly, and then check whether it can be installed on the local
machine. If still not, I’m afraid that you have to contact Brother for more suggestions. Otherwise, you can share the printer on the Windows Vista to Windows 7 for a test.
    Thanks,
    Novak

  • Problem printing to printer attached to a pc over home network

I have a home network with two computers, a Dell running Win XP and a new iMac running Leopard. I have Fusion installed on the Mac running a virtual PC on WinXP as well, so I effectively have 3 computers. I had an old HP printer attached to the Dell that both the Mac and its virtual PC could see and print to fine over my network. I had to replace the printer and now have a Canon MX700 attached (by USB) to the Dell, and am having trouble with remote printing. I was able to "add" the new printer to both the Mac and its virtual pc, but only the virtual pc is able to print successfully. When I try printing from the Mac applications, using the driver for the MX700 printer found during the add printer setup, I get an error message. I then tried a new setup with a generic (Gutenprint) driver, and the printer was spitting out blank pages. Then I downloaded another driver from Canon's website for OS X 10.5, and it still didn't work. (I am not sure if I was supposed to uninstall the previous drivers first, and if so,I don't know how to do that since I am still new to the Mac environment. I just am assuming that the new drivers take over for the former one.) I assume that the problem is a driver problem and not a network problem since the virtual pc on the Mac works fine and my old HP worked fine with the same network setup. Any help?

    gosox13 wrote:
Thank you again for sticking with me on this. Frankly, I was very surprised when the Canon did not work even when I carried it downstairs and attached it directly to the Mac by USB. I used the installation disk, which said it installed successfully (after several tries where it kept getting hung up after installing the drivers, and showing 0% completed, requiring me to use force quit to get the setup to stop each time). But as I explained in my prior post, the Mac never found the printer even after the supposed "successful" install.
This is typical when there are too many different versions of the driver residing on the Mac. I will explain my procedure to remove all the Canon stuff at the bottom of this post.
I then downloaded the Mac OS driver from the support page for my printer on Canon's website and ran that driver, but still no recognition. But I am willing to keep trying. I had looked at the PrintFab driver too (which I learned about from one of your other posts), but they are expensive and I probably could buy another printer for the cost of that driver. So I don't think that is an option.
Agree with you re the PrintFab. That is why I think the direct network connection would be best.
You suggest that I try another Gutenprint driver from the Canon list, which I guess I can randomly do, but I noticed that a number of the models listed show the driver as 5.2.3 (the same numbers as the generic one I tried)--does this meand they are all the same? Can I just keep downloading and installing more drivers without removing any?
It is not another version I need you to try. Using the same version, I suggest you try some of the other models that are included with the Gutenprint driver. Ideally, it would be good to know which model of the included Gutenprint drivers uses the same ink tank setup as your MX700. For example, if the MX700 uses BCI8 Blk and a BCI5 Blk and the three 8 series colour (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow), then selecting a model that uses the same setup might work for you. If you check a Canon web site, it would tell you what tanks are used by a certain model that is available within the Canon list.
I am willing to consider the network install of the printer, and that would be a good way to go, but I find Canon's instruction for network installations that came with the printer (which does not appear to consider mixing Macs and Pcs since there are separate instructions for both) a bit confusing. The basic installation of the printer on the network seems easy enough to follow. It is the further instruction for doing something to the "card" for each computer that will be using the printer on the network that I find confusing. I don't know what they are talking about. I certainly don't want to mess up my network connections. Do you know of any better instructions for setting this all up?
The setup is easier than the manual suggests. With the printer connected via USB, you open the Utilities application and select the Network tab. However this does require that you can get the printer to work when connected via USB, so we have to achieve that first.
Again, thank you very much for all your help. (Incidentally, I also discovered I can't use the fax feature of the printer because we have a two-line phone line and when I plug the phone cord into the printer and then out to the phone it eliminates the second line, no ringtone. There is no setting for this on the printer that I can find. But I can live without the fax, just another source of annoyance with this printer).
That would suggest that there is a link from the first phone to the second. Unplugging the phone cable to connect to the fax has broken that loop. You could easily get the phones rewired to suit the fax, but again it costs money so it might not be worth it.
Here is my procedure for repairing faulty installations of the Canon PIXMA drivers.
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Highlight the Canon printer in the Printer list and click the minus ( - ) button. [You may not have to do this step]
    2. Hold Control key and click in the empty Printers list. Click on Reset Printing System.
    3. Close Print & Fax
    4. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
    5. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file, if one exists. The file name will show Canon MX700 xxx.pkg
    6. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.
    7. Go to HD > Users > Shared > Canon and delete the BJPrinter folder.
    8. Empty the Trash
    9. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
    10. Install the latest version of the Canon driver. Looking at the Canon AU web site it is v6.9.3
    11. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
    12. Reconnect the Canon USB cable. Then open Print & Fax and see if the Canon printer is listed. If it is, try a test print.
    13. If the printer is not listed, click the plus ( + ) button.
    14. Select the Default view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
    15. Click Add to add the printer.

  • Sharing aperture libraries over home network

My Aperture (3.4) Library is on my Mac (OS-X 10.8.2). I want to access from my MacBook (OS X 10.7.5) Aperture (3.4) over my home network.
When I 'Switch to library' on the MacBook and select the Aperture Libraray on the Mac I get the message:
'Aperture cannot switch to the selected library because the file system of the library’s volume is not supported.'
    Al suggestions will be appreciated!

Sorry, that is not possible. Aperture is not a network database system, and an Aperture library can only be accessed by one user at a time.
The Aperture library must be stored on locally mounted volume, formatted MacOS X extended.

  • How can i stream video over apple tv from Macbookpro?

I can stream video(youtube) off my Iphone, but not Macbook. On my Iphone an icon shows up for some video streams that allows you to select appletv to stream the content to tv, but I don't see that same Icon when browsing and playing youtubes or video on my macbook.???

Unfortunately with that speed you are not going to have a good experience with HD streaming. I would make sure everything is set to stream SD. Go into the settings - iTunes Store and you can switch there for any purchases/rentals made through them.
If you use Netflix (or other streaming sites) go into your account(s) and see if you can switch to a lower quality stream. I know Netflix has that in place.

  • Apple TV Gen 2.. Terribly Slow Streaming From Wired Home Network via itunes Windows 7. Please Help

Hello all, I just signed up for this as i hope to get more results from here than i did waiting 4 hours for a call from apple today.
I recently purchased an Apple TV Gen 2.. installed it on my Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI cable and also ran a network cable to my basement where my router, (Linksys 5 port router plus Wireless) is mounted on the wall beside the cable modem.
just to rule things out i will give some spec's and details before i get further into this.
My goal is to use my Desktop Homebuilt PC running windows 7 ultimate 64bit to store my Digital Movie Library and stream through itunes all of my digital media to my Apple TV located in another room. Both Apple TV and my desktop windows 7 PC are hard wired NOT WIRELESS.
My internet connection is cable and tested it this evening several times at  58.9 Megabits per second down and 8 Megabits per second down... (yes that is correct 58mb/s down. this equates to about 7.1 megabytes per second download speeds for reference.
Now just to rule out my 2 year old wireless router i went and purchased a brand new router today... Same results.
Now on to the problem details and my findings.
Using my Desktop PC wired to try and stream Itunes movies from the streaming is absurdly slow.. very slow... i have yet to wait to see what happens after 30 minutes of waiting for a Movie to start.. music also takes a long time to load...
Music... i can go to icloud funtion which i paid for today.. and click on the same song in icloud and the song starts almost instantly, so does music videos...
Also previously purchased TV shows starts playing from the cloud almost instantly as well even HD TV shows...
Trying to stream anything through my desktop windows 7 pc just doesnt work right...
I have narrowed this problem down to my desktop.. but can not figure out what the problem is...
using my macbook air 120GB SSD wireless over the same network, which i also have a mirrored copy of my itunes library for testing purposes... there is zero issues with streaming anything from my macbook air over the same network via wifi...
Also using my ipad 2 mirroring works flawlessly, even HD movies plays without a hitch... same goes for my iphone 4s
the only issues i am having are with my desktop and streaming from my itunes libary on it... i do not want to use my macbook air.. as that defeats the purpose of having apple TV.. in the future i plan on ripping my entire DVD / Blueray collection to a 3 TB hard drive and stream to my AppleTV...  from my desktop computer storing my entire DVD / Blue Ray library digitally on the 3TB hard drive....
But i can not get this to work...  i can see my itunes libary on my desktop.. i can play music and watch movies.. other than anything HD will not play... but everything takes a rediculously long time to load... i can download an entire movie with my 58mb's connection in the time it takes to load something streaming from my itunes libary on my desktop PC...
if anyone has any suggestions.. there may be something i have overlooked or i am missing. any input and or advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,

Ok.. in order to help other users i will post this..
I have resolved the issue... it was rather simple and dumb...
I never use windows media player ever.. i do not like it and can not stand it.. because in my case it was a brand new windows installation this fix will only apply to certain users..
because it was a brand new windows installation.. i had never clicked on windows media player.. apparently streaming settings are embedded into windows media player for the windows 7 OS...    in past installations that i have used for years.. i simply never ever clicked on windows media player, as i never had a reason to.. i use itunes for my ipad, iphone etc.. etc...
by accident and shear luck i decided to click on windows media player.. and of course go through the express settings....  after i did this all of my streaming problems to my apple tv gen2 disapeared... HD movies now start almost instantly... so as i stated above apparently there are media streaming settings embedded into the OS through windows media player... doesnt make any sense to me as i never use the program.. but whatever that fixed my issue..
so for any of you windows 7 people out there using a windows 7 pc as your itunes sync computer and using that itunes library to stream to your apple tv... make sure you have done the initial setup at min.. of windows media player.. i still left itunes as my default player....  everything now works flawlessly... infact for whatever reason.. even in an HD movie my network almost has half the movie synced now accross the bar before the movie starts so now my apple tv is blazing fast....
i have been struggling with this for 2 days now and simply never gave it a thought that windows media player would ever have anything to do with itunes streaming a totally seperate program.. but it did..
i hope this helps other people with similar problems.
    good luck
