Streaming videos slow

Hey, for some reason my computer can't seem to stream online videos for longer than about 10 minutes. The audio remains intact but the video becomes choppy and within a couple minutes it's like watching a noisy powerpoint. I have a ton of free disk space and everything is updated (as far as 10.5 goes). My computer has been having some trouble recently- it runs really slowly if I use it for more than 20 minutes (doing anything- word processors, itunes, anything) and I don't know what to do.
If you have any ideas that run deeper than "do you have any free disk space" or "have you spilled water on it" please enlighten me

It's an intel Mac, 2.66GHz running os10.5.8. I normally use Safari unless it crashes- then I use Firefox. Safari is 5.0.6 and Firefox is 3.0.6. Both Safari and Firefox have had their fair share of crashing recently, but it doesn't seem like the video streaming problem lies in the browser. The computer itself seems to run very hot during video, which I'm sure is relatively normal, but maybe it's been overheating or something. If I let it cool off for a bit the picture gets better but still not close to perfect. I just want my iBook G3 back- that thing worked like a charm for 7 years haha

  • Streaming video slow - Safari or broadband at fault?

When I try to watch some streaming video from the BBC or Channel 4 (UK), the streaming is sometimes erratic and long pauses occur, which I assume is a delay in the data arriving with my Mac. I've got a router rather than a modem, which I thought evened out the data flow. Can anyone tell me how I can check if Safari, my broadband, or the web site is at fault?

Can anyone tell me how I can check if Safari
Try another browser for a bit to see if it suffers the same problem:
    [Opera|www.opera.com]
    [Firefox|www.mozilla.com]
    [Camino|www.caminobrowser.org]
If they suffer the same problem, we at least know it's not Safari (but could be the Flash plugin they all use for the streaming video).

  • Streaming videos slow from sites that recently worked OK.

Video streaming from some sites, e.g., http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Referee-Programs/2011/09/Referee-Week-in-Review-Wee k-28.aspx, and others,
recently working normally.  Now, extremely slow streaming to current 2011 21" iMac, old G4 'mushroom' Mac and Intel Powerbook (core duo).
BUT THEY JUST RIP ON AN iPad!  SpeedTest shows about 10 Mbps download.  Similar slow result for wired ethernet connection and over Airport.

  • Slow, jerky streaming video on G4 iMac

I am running Leopard 10.5.3 with no problems on a 1GHz G4 iMac with 1 gig of RAM. However, streaming video is virtually unwatchable: it is always slow and jerky. My internet connection is a steady 6.5 mbps down.
Any suggestions on how I can make streaming video watchable?
    Thanks. . .

Streaming video from over the internet isn't going to tax your video card.
It's going to be either the broadband connection, the wireless, or the CPU struggling with an advanced video codec like H264.
The MDD starts to struggle at about 1500kbps video/audio in H264 decompression. If you have any other processes running (like Spotlight Indexing in OSX 10.4 and 10.5 - which is a real killer just after a fresh install) then you're even more severely limited, perhaps 1300kbps.
Sustained AirPort 'b' (for MDD) tops out at about 4000kbps with a perfect signal. The advertised 11Mbps is theoretical and something close may only be possible in a burst mode. Even if your wireless strength is perfect, there may be interference that will cut throughput in half, then half again.
Don't know your broadband connection, but ISPs here in the UK use "traffic shaping", cutting back on our 8Mbps throughput to little more than 2Mbps, sometime less during busy periods (evenings, weekends, if you live in a primarily residential area).
If any of these areas force your throughput to drop below the rate at which the TV show in encoded, you get jumpy video and/or audio.

Is your network slow with other activities?
There's a section in this article for Wi-Fi network seems slow.  Some of it applies to Ethernet as well.

  • Choppy/Slow streamed videos on both Firefox and Chrome

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro that was recently turned off for two weeks while I was on vacation. When I turned it back on and tried to watch videos online (youtube, Netflix, streamed videos) the videos are choppy and slow to load. This was never a problem before turning of the computer for the two weeks. I have tried both Google Chrome and Firefox and the problem happens on both. When viewing the Activity Monitor while attempting to watch the videos the CPU usage is fine for the first 20 seconds or so and then Chrome or Firefox take on 80-90-over 100% of the CPU usage, a majority of the usage is from the system (in red) and the videos become untwatchable. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both browsers and have disbaled all the extensions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight for Netflix and have uninstalled all unused versions of Adobe Flash player. There are no problems with video when I watch a DVD. Help! I want to watch videos again

having same problem since mac os x 10.6 upgrade, but was never issue prior... have tried everything i can think of, new flash players, reinstalling players, reboots of computer and router... to no avail. since this was never an issue for me prior to upgrading to Mac OS X (10.6.8), i believe its the os software.

  • Is anyone with an iPhone 6plus experiencing slow downloads and problems streaming videos online?

is anyone with an iPhone 6+ experiencing slow download and slow video streaming online? I have had the iPhone 6 Plus and I've been experiencing my app is downloading a lot slower and being unable to stream videos online

I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this site. Three days apps will not update, iOS8.0. Support told me to update to iOS8.02. Can't do that over WIFI or Cell network. Supports tells me have to link to iTUNES and do this. That takes three trys. Did that. Apps still not updating. Read online that resetting network settings will help. Did that App's hanging and not updating.
Apple how does this happen. Night before iOS8.0 release you pull things because of some security issue. Then you have iOS8.01 fiasco and now this. Can someone get this right. We use these things for more than just phones now. FIX IT

  • Streaming videos from iPhone 4s via AirPlay is very slow

. I took a few videos with my iPhone 4S when I was on vacation. When I try to stream them from my iPhone to my Apple TV, it buffers extremely slowly. However, when I stream videos from my MacBook Pro to my Apple TV, it buffers very quickly and plays very quickly. Based on that, I'm assuming that there's nothing wrong with my wireless network. So my question is, what could be wrong with my iPhone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Streaming video is slow with Yosemite. Why?

Since upgrading to Yosemite, my streaming video is slow and choppy. What can I do to correct this?

My appologies, dont know what I was thinking, this should have said:
in the navigator, click on the slide with the video file
Inspector > Animate > add an effect
in the start transition dropdown select; Automatically
set Delay to equal the duration of the video clip
File > Export to > QickTime

  • Streaming video now slow

    Hello,
I have a a MBPr, and since I got it in Feb, everything was going fine. I have High speed internet and my streaming videos from sites like sharesix, put locker etc would load lightening fast. Last 2 weeks, theyre SUPER slow, something that would load in 5-10 mins now takes 5-10 mines to load just 1 minute of the video.
Its universal, on safari, firefox, and chrome, initially I was just using firefox and thought that was the issue so I cleaned out my history/cache/cookies etc. It didn't help.
    Any suggestions?

Power off the router. Wait a while. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
    It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
    Start up in Safe Mode

  • Streaming video over WiFi very slow

Hi, I started to dealing this unpleasant issue since I guess I updated to last firmware on my Apple TV. Now when I want to stream video from my MacBook or iPad over wifi, the picture is not fluent at all. It is cut (not sure about this word). When I connect my MacBook through ethernet cable, it works just fine. Apple TV is connected by cable to my network.
Anyway I was able to stream practically any movie in any quality and it worked. No I cannot stream nothing at all! :/
Does somebody experience the same issue?

If you have an Apple Store nearby, book an appointment with the Genius Bar and get them to check it over.
If you don't have an Apple Store nearby, take it back to the retailer and explain what's happening and see what they have to say.
Or, you could call Apple Tech Support give them the details of the problem and see if they can suggest a fix.
Before doing any of the above, you might want to try restoring the iPad to default settings and then set it up again (back up your iPad prior to this to preserve apps and date etc) to see if this rectifies the issue.
    Hope you get it sorted

  • Streaming Video jumpy/slow

My iMac G5 is unable to smoothly stream video from any website such as Hulu or most YouTube videos. What can I do to address this problem?

    Pedro Vincenty wrote:
I had the same problem with my PB G4 1.5mgz and mac mini G4 1.3mgz. *I resolved it by downloading the latest flash player from adobe. After installing went to youtube and opened any video and pressed pause(don't do this while video is playing). click the "ctrl" key while presssing track pad in the middle of the video window. The settings for flasplayer will pop up, select the video settings and select "enable hardware acceleration" and press close. Now RESTART YOUR COMPUTER not just safari,* You will see the difference just allow the video to load for a few seconds before video starts.
    Great tip!

  • Slow streaming video on G4 MDD

Please forgive me in advance, if this topic has been covered. I've been searching the forums, but haven't found an answer ... yet - still looking.
I love my G4 MDD, she's been a good pal, and has done everything I've asked. But, for the life of me, I can't understand why, while watching streaming videos on Safari, the feeds are all choppy. (For example, catching up on LOST on abc. com, can be a frustrating experience.) I know the old girl is getting long in the tooth, but she's still a powerhouse computer. What (without buying a whole new machine) can I do? Is it a RAM problem? Video card? Hard drive? A Safari problem? I'm stumped.
This is what I've got :Power PC G4 MDD, Dual 1GHz, 1.25 GB DDR SDRAM. I've got a strong Airport signal.
Any ideas would be appreciated. In this economy, I gotta work with what I've already got.
    Thanks,
    Ralph W.

  • My macbook has problems streaming video when using an external monitor

I have a MacBook from 2007.  I have a converter so that the MacBook can be connected to an external monitor, and have connected it to my TV.  This works fine, but if I am streaming videos and trying to watch on the TV, the streaming becomes very choppy, almost like the wireless connection is too slow.  If I unplug the computer from the TV, however, the streaming returns to normal.  I previously connected to a TV with an S-video connection and the problem did not seem as prominent.  Now I am connecting to a HD tv using an HDMI connection.
Any suggestions for how to alleviate this?  I haven't updated or upgraded the memory or RAM, possibly that would help?  Would the amount of files I am storing be causing the problem?  I currently have 50 GB available.
    Thanks for any help!
    Conor

Make sure your Mac is set to a resolution and frequency that your monitor supports.
The other possibility is that your graphics card is fried, but that seems unlikely since your computer is new. Before too long, you should make sure your graphics card is OK using the Apple Hardware Test, but I'm not sure how reliable that is because it claims that my partially broken graphics card is OK.
