Streamline process

I am changing the end tag on DVDs used for broadcast on Public Access Television. Right now the process is downloading the DVD which creates a .dmg file. Next, I convert the .dmg to Quicktime using MPEG streamslip. I load the converted Quicktime file into FCP and it needs to be rendered (this is the most time consuming step, 30-45 min.) The fourth step is cutting off the old tag and adding the new one, then creating a new Quicktime movie. The final step is then creating a DVD which is then used for broadcast.
As you can imagine, this is a very time consuming process. I'm hoping someone might have some tips to shorten this process. Any ideas will be deeply appreciated. Thanks.

I am hesitant to copy to tape and download to Final Cut as I believe I will loose some quality. Rightly or wrongly, I believe there is less quality loss in digital to digital copying.
I had the thought in the back of my mind that there was probably some adjustment in MPEG streamclip I could make. I appreciate the tip.

My question concerns streamlining the process of adding my descriptions I attached to each photo when first ordered. Instead of having to click to the Library from the Project, search for the photo, copy the description, then click again on the Project and the page I'm working on, is there a way to obtain the photo description while I am editing the Book page?

Help - Streamline Process

I wonder if anyone may offer any suggestions.
I produce 40 minute videos and my end goal is to have a file that is as small as possible, with the priority of keeping best quality footage (720p used, 1080p too large and too long to render)
1) The initial file I receive is in the video format DAV (which plays on very few media players).
2) I must then convert to AVI (AVC).
3) This is not accepted in AE CS6, so I use handbrake in order to convert to MP4. Settings 18RF, compromise of file size and quality.
4) Import to AE and render.
5) Sometimes add to Handbrake for a last time to reduce the size.
This is quite a long process, but the biggest problem I have is losing the quality of the video, but I do not know how to skip so many conversions on points 2, 3, 4.
Any suggestions would be great, as I'm quite new to video editing

You are going from (visually) compressed to compressed to compressed so naturally, quality loss is inevitable. You amplify artifacts and introduce new ones at every step of the way. You have to use uncompressed or only binary compressed formats for your intermediate files that don't degrade the actual picture content. And well, if you work with 40 minute files you just have to get used that they will be large, but these days buying Terabyte drives is a snap. Read up on that stuff. Also read up on what AE is actualyl for. You don't edit with AE (unless you really have no other option), you apply effects and corrections, but only to the parts that actualyl need it and, that's the point, those parts previously are edited in a program like Premiere.

How can I encrypt/protect some of my iTunes music?

Specifically, I would love it if someone could help me work out the solution that I assumed would (and should?) work.
First, a little background. I have been overhauling my encryption/backup method in an attempt to have my sensitive computer data less likely to be compromised if my computer were to be stolen. A part of this streamlining process has included the placing of certain files and project data into encrypted disc images that I can mount when I need access (note: I do not want to use Apple's FileVault option to encrypt ALL of my computer's contents together).
I have a fair amount of audio/music pieces of mine that are works-in-progress, and I use iTunes as a way to easily access these works in the various playlists that I create from within the app. I names all of these works as "me" in iTunes, under the "Artist" label, so that I could replace the artist folder "me" (in the iTunes Music folder) with a folder alias directing the iTunes Music directory to the real "me" Artist folder placed in an encrypted disk image that I would mount when I needed access. I would rather not have these works of mine compromised in some worst-case-scenario, and it would be worth it for me to simply mount an encrypted image every time I need to listen/arrange them.
After doing all this, iTunes knew just where to find the songs until after the first time that I unmounted the disc image containing the Artist folder that the alias directed iTunes to. Of course, I knew that iTunes would not be able to locate the tracks once the image was unmounted (that was the whole idea behind my doing this). What is so frustrating is that even after I mount the encrypted image, iTunes STILL cannot find the songs automatically. Why wouldn't iTunes' same directory instructions not be able to find the songs when they are right back where they should be (mounted in the same location that I created the alias folder)?
I was really hoping that iTunes would play these songs whenever (and only) when I have that particular encrypted disc image mounted on the desktop.
Very frustrating! I thought I had a good idea with all of this, and am pretty disappointed that it is not working for me like I wanted. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions about how I might beat or work around this?
With Apple being such an advocate of the creative audible arts (Logic and such), it is frustrating that there are not any added iTunes tools for auditioning (and safeguarding) music in iTunes. I wish it were a little less of a music store, and more of a personalized experience.

In a perfect world, I could launch this alternate version of iTunes, with the new library I create, by dragging the "iTunes Library" file from it, into the dock for my one-click-away pleasure. Instead, double clicking it only brings up the last library version of iTunes that I last selected.
Any way around that? I would love to be able to bring it up, with as few clicks/steps as possible. Ideally, I would click on a dock representation, type my decryption password in, and have the new iTunes library launch--having my regular iTunes library launch only when I click on the typical app link.

Managing sole iTunes library with multiple machines on-the-go with database&media on external drive?

Hi fellows. Trying to organize & revamp my iTunes library & wish to achieve a configuration but lack the expertise to achieve it. My objectives are:
Objectives
+1. for my multimedia content to be stored/accessed from an external hard disk+
+2. to keep the entire iTunes multimedia & all necessary operating files as self-contained as possible,+
+3. Allow multiple machines to manage import of new content into library, i.e. download new episodes of podcasts, rip new music & movies into the library, sync-ing of iPod even when said machine is nowhere near my external hard disk (this is the tricky one)+
_Justification for my objectives_
For objective #3, it's not that I'm trying to be funny. My use case is I've 1 laptop (main machine & always at home) & 1 netbook (brought to school daily). Most of my iTunes usage will be via the stay-at-home laptop; but I may wish to add/manage new content onto my iTunes library/iPod while I'm outside (hence, decoupled from my external hard disk at home).
I'm not trying to be funny for objective #1 either. I wish to have a streamlined process of retaining & re-instating my iTunes library meta-data across system re-format, i.e. where the iTunes library db files' location may be changed (most obvious being the new "My Music" folder path in Win7 from WinXP)
_What I'm well aware of_
I understand that storing/re-locating multimedia on external hard disk is no-kick to iTunes veteran. I also understand that after a new installation of iTunes, I can move the fresh copy of "iTunes_library.itl" & "iTunes_library.xml" files to my external volume & point iTunes to their new address from the 2nd launch onwards. I also understand any new machines I introduce into my environment can be directed to that exact copy of iTunes library database files when I install iTunes & pressing "Shift" key upon their launch. Lastly, I also understand that I will have no access to my multimedia files (for playback) while I'm outside, but I can still add new content, & download new podcasts & remove old content from my library/iPod
_The question_
However, what I have difficulty achieving, is launching iTunes on my on-the-go machine(s), without a local copy of the iTunes library database files. I doubt iTunes will be able to launch at all, & if I create a new library (just to launch iTunes), it will not possess content from my main media collection & likely to wipe out my iPod.
_My novice attempt & its inadequacies_
My 1st instinct, is to have the iTunes library database files stored in the cloud. More specifically, I can store them files in my DropBox folder/account, & have every machine update to a single latest version of iTunes library database files upon Internet connection. However, this method depends on:
+* the DropBox application to exist forever,+
+* assumed the installation path of DropBox (or any applications for that matter) to persist/remain unchanged across future versions of operating systems,+
+* Will corrupt any un-sync-ed version of my iTunes library database files when I launched iTunes without 1st updating the local cached copy of them database files (suppose I manage my iPod playlists via iTunes on a plane)+
_Open for recommendations_
So here I'm, all ears to any fine recommendations you iTunes veterans have to offer. Thanx in advance.

In case anyone is interested in these sorta thing:
UPDATE #4: Unfortunately, if you discover you tagged something wrong after importing the songs, even when you correct the tags, iTunes will not re-organize the folder hierarchy, as long as “Keep iTunes Music folder organized“ is UNchecked, even if the songs were imported via the “Automatically add to iTunes folder” channel.
Example: I imported a folder of Andy Lau songs into my library, unbeknownst to me, some of the songs had their “Artist” tagged as “Andy Lau“, while some had theirs tagged as “Liu De Hua“. Naturally, the 1st time round I imported them, 2 separate folders were instantiated as to iTunes, those were names of 2 distinct artists (this is expected, & acceptable behaviour). The downside is, even if I re-tagged all those songs with “Andy Lau” as the artist, iTunes will no longer re-organize & consolidate all them songs into a single “Andy Lau” artist folder (because I’d “Keep iTunes Music folder organized” UNchecked remember?)
Well, you may suggest that I check that option when managing my future library & uncheck it right before launching/using my main, current library. The thing is, iTunes preferences persist across libraries, & one day I will forget to uncheck that option, launch my main library & lose all my current music folder structure to iTunes’ re-organization (which I don;t want, as of yet). Which brings me to another update:
UPDATE #5: My future iTunes library has “I:/iTunes_Media” as iTunes’s “Home” folder. This setting persists even when I switch back to my main, current library. Which means, if I’d my external volume connected while launching/using my main, current library, all new content will end up in that folder on the external volume! Which messes up the whole scheme of things! Arghz!
UPDATE #6: Here’re some updates with regards to ID3 tags:
* the “Album Artist” in Windows (7) Explorer = the “Album Artist” field in iTunes 9
* Modifying a ID3 tag field using Windows (7) Explorer will update BOTH the v1 & v2.3 version of the ID3 tags on the song (if the song has both versions of tags embedded & if the field exists in both tag versions). If you update the tags via iTunes, only the v2.3 tags get updated. This is surprising.
* the “Contributing Artist” field in Windows (7) Explorer = the “Artist” field in iTunes 9 & the “Artist” field in ID3v1 tags (changes in tany of the 3 fields will affect the other 2 respectively)
o However, iTunes Media folder organization will only adhere to the value saved in the “Album Artist” field [if you change the value of "Contributing Artist" in Windows (7) Explorer, the "Artist" field in iTunes or the "Artist" field in a song's ID3v1 tags, no folder re-organization will occur]
UPDATE #7: Some updates with regards to workflow:
Decided to retain all non-music content within a sub-folder named “non-music” beneath the main album folder (& take strict precautions to import songs only). The exception is “m3u” playlist files. Have read elsewhere if you import a folder of songs & there’s an “m3u” playlist inside, your library may have duplicates and/or the tags of those songs you just imported could be screwed, etc.

Multiple Signatures for One Account

I have multiple signatures associated with a single account and would like to be able to choose which one to use when composing a new message. There's no choose signature option in the header and it doesn't appear under the header customize menu. I can go into Preferences>Signatures and choose from there which signature to make the default, but I'd like to be able to choose in a more streamlined process. Any ideas?

click on the little icon with the triangle and some lines to the left of the "From" field in a message composition window. in the resulting pulldown menu choose "customize". check the box next to "Signature" and click "OK".
now you'll get a signature pulldown menu where you can choose which signature to use with this message.

Hey Is there any way to sub-divide Playlists

I know this is getting really anal but I would really like to be able to set-up a playlist or something like it with an artist or band and then be able to sub-divide that playlist by album. Maybe I am going about this wrong I just don't like any of the other search methods provided by the ipod If you actually use the artist search tab I always get the random artist that I own one or two songs from because of a Soundtrack or compilation and I hate having to scan through them just to find what I am looking for. the album tab is just as bad cause then I really have to remember what such and suchs third album was called. There has to be a way to make this a more streamlined process that I am just missing? Hope someone can help.
P.S. And yes I have used the compilation option when importing the CD

Receiving Child Component from Customer in ASEQ status

Hello. I am trying to figure out a way receive customer material that is in ASEQ status. At times the customer will send in a child component instead of the father component. When the receiver tries to receive the material in off the RMA they receive an error message that the status is not available for receipt. At that time the end user (receiving) notifies the service department; they will dismantle the equipment and notify receiving. The receiving department then receives in the child component. Problem is that this is forgotten to reassemeble after the goods issue back to the customer and is not a streamline process. I posted this issue in SD and received some replies that gave some interesting different options. However; I am unable to get the material to the service order for billing on the first two options. The third option gives a solution after a goods issue to run a program that will identify the child part that was not installed back to the father. However; the customer does not find this as an ideal solution.

Inbound Delivery created and creates a Service Order in background (IW31)
Inbound Goods receipt IE4N to service order (User exit/Badi?)
Cost and Billing already configured for service order - this process wont change
Outbound Delivery Created Install the Chld Component back to Father component (IE4N User Exit/Badi?)
There has to be other companies that this happens. How do they do it? I am open to other suggestions for this to work. We do have a developer however they are quite new to SAP ABAP. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

We have sales BOM where main material number and components all have serial number same can be delivered,
Now customer complaints one of component is faulty then we processed this component in Return and repair process.if you have same scenario then process with this
If you have serial number for main item and not for components
Then you can process it with return and repair process now here question is whether you want to generate serial number when component is taken return or you just want to take that component material only it depends on your serial number profile configuration.

Skip the Creation of Maintenance Notification

I would like to know the effect if i will skip or remove the process of creation of Maintenance notification in SAP PM. The process will start with the creation of Order, if there's an external service required the Maintenance Order will be converted into PO if no external service or material will close the Order.
Since the Creation of Maintenance Order will generate Notification, we were thinking that creation of Notification is redundant if the system allows to create order and notification in one transaction.
What would be the effect of this, thanks and God bless.

As the experts, who had already answered observed, this is purely a business process consideration. If your (Client's) organization supports a "streamlined" process in which direct Order creation is beneficial you can go for it.
As you've written "Since the Creation of Maintenance Order will generate Notification, we were thinking that creation of Notification is redundant if the system allows to create order and notification in one transaction." I assume you are still using Notification and Order integration. But as Yogesh Dhokne mentioned, this is optional as well.
If you choose to create a Notification in the background, you can still register breakdown times for MTTF/MTBF calculations, Catalog Codes for tracking and any additional information once the Orders are created.
But consider this: How is work requested, released for execution and reported? If you only create Orders, you have only Orders to go on. Therefore, you might require more verbose User Status management, and you may find yourself with Orders that are being created unnecessarily and have to be closed, Orders being released prematurely... You have to have a very "flat" process around this immediate Order creation.
On the other hand, consider that having Notifications created prior means a more "deep" process and more overhead, but you can have a step to filter works to be released on the Notification level before Orders are created, if you have more than one Notification for the same work, you can assign it to a single Order, and you have more options when designing roles and authorizations, since you can separate access and business transactions for Notifications and Orders for your Operations and Maintenance users, if necessary.

If this is a public forum. I am disturbed by my inability to communicate with adobe, in private about how to have what I bought operate properly.
This is probably over , one of a dozen software, wishing to update...with 10 other pieces of software working fine.
As well, this is claimed as a rental for 1 year.
If services are not up to speed, I would request an extention of my use of this software, so that I might have a real year, not one, fully busyed, with software updates, end exception errors.
I sure hope I can contact someone at adobe, rather than a bunch of people offered 'points' .

Retaining left to right order of annotations

I want to be able to use keywords to finish typing a person's name when annotating a photo, and have the order of the names match the order (left to right, etc.) of the appearance of the person in the photo. What is the best way to do this?

Thanks for the reply. Of course, the problem with captions is that you have to retype the information for every photo--no option to choose from the keyword list, as far as I have been able to find. Needless to say, that is very tedious. I'm surprised that the ability to properly identify people in a photo is not available as a streamlined process. Is there another way to achieve this that I am missing?

Terminal command to lock and unlock the dock?

I manage hundreds of iMacs running Yosemite at a school site. I use parental controls with the lock dock feature turned on. I would like to periodically unlock the dock to customize it with new icons, but have not found a terminal command that works, or a streamlined process that is time efficient.
So far I have been individually unlocking the dock in parent controls on each machine, restarting, editing the dock, then re-locking it parental controls, then restarting. This takes 5-10 minutes per machine).
I also tried this command but it didn't work.
defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool true; killall Dock;
I also tried cloning the parental controls with an exported plist file to all the machines using ARD, which works for all the parental control settings EXCEPT for the lock dock feature.
Any ideas?

Sorry this is probably too late for you, but it may help others seeking this answer, I just had this problem [Mac OS x Yosemite 10.10.2] and found that the following worked for me:
1. Use Terminal to LOCK the Dock by C&P or typing in:
defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool true
Then use your preferred method to Log-Out [e.g. Key Combo ⇧⌘Q or  [Top Left Menu] then select Log Out “name”]
and then Log-In again.
2. Use Terminal to UNLOCK the Dock by C&P or typing in:
defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool false
Then use your preferred method to Log-Out [e.g. Key Combo ⇧⌘Q or  [Top Left Menu] then select Log Out “name”]
and then Log-In again.
NB. You will be solely responsible for your actions making changes to the Operating System.

BSG is concept used in SAP APO, as the APO is part of SCM server and this server in separate than the R/3 server. U can couple more than one R/3 server to one SCM server. It might possible that every R/3 server has its diffrent nomenclature system for Material so in BSG the similar nomenclature system are grouped for streamline processing.

Best way for getting album art into iTunes/iPod?

First of all, when you pull the track listing down from Gracenote when importing CDs, does the album art come with it? I don't see any art. And then if not, what is the best source for getting a low resolution digital file for each CD imported and how do you make sure it will make it to your iPod from iTunes? Is there any easy or streamlined process? Also, do the low resolution files add up for each song and take up hard-drive space? Thanks for any input.

I believe that copying directly into the iTunes box
will use more space on your HD than going via the
desktop.
It's the other way round.
If you copy it to your Desktop then it takes space there and if you then copy it to iTunes it gets added to the music file making that bigger.
Of course, if you delete it from the Desktop and empty the Trash then you won't have it taking space.
