Stress Test using em console in 11g results in lesser number of instances

Hi All,
We are doing Stress/Load testing using em console in SOA Suite 11g. The problem we are encountering is, em fails to create as many instances as it should. Under "Additional Test Options", we check the "Enable Stress Test" checkbox and give different values for following parameters:
Concurrent Threads     50
Loops per Thread     20
Delay in Milliseconds     1000
But instead of creating 1000 instances of this composite, em console create only 998 and fails to create 2 instances without giving any error in console logs or server logs.
Similarly, with below setting:
Concurrent Threads     50
Loops per Thread     40
Delay in Milliseconds     1000
Instead of creating 2000 instances it creates only 1991 and 9 instances fail without any error. Is this a known bug or we are missing something here? Any pointers will be helpful.

In case you have multiple instances running, whereas any instance has an unique value started as correlation, when the engine receives the messages for the intermediate receive operation it will be routed without problems to the right instance. In this case, it is not a problem if the engine creates a new composite instance for the intermediate messages.
We have this situation in Production without any problem.
Anyway should be simple to simulate the same situation in your development environment to make sure it works well in your scenario.

    If you are looking for simulating load using minimalist tools, a crude way to do this would be configuring Ecatt scripts and running them from multiple machines
    But I think it doesn't work for web based transactions.

  • Running Tests where the test runner is in a nuget package using Vstest.console.exe

    I am trying to run my unit tests from a batch file.  I got it working a week or so ago and then my test runner (xunit) got changed from using a vsix install to using a nuget package to install it.
    When my batch file runs, it does not find any tests anymore.  It works great in Visual Studio and with TFS Build.
    I guess that when I try to run Vstest.console.exe in my batch file, it has no idea about the settings from the solution where VS and TFS both do have that available.
    My question is:  Is there a way to run my tests using Vstest.console.exe where it goes to nuget and gets the test runner?  Are there settings I can put into a test settings file to use when running the tests or Do I need to switch to using a MSBuild
    script to run the tests?

    It creates record in SP task list. I can loop it to create several records. But how can I simulate

    1) But what You use to monitor server behavior, do You use Resource monitor? By example I can see some network and cpu activity during test, but how can I analyze this data..

  • Stress test tool and guidelines for tuning ADF 11g

    I am working our ADF 11g application on load & stress testing. The load test works fine with some millions of full dummy rows (this generated data tool is easily written by ourself). The tunning only was done with only indexing. But with stress I'm concerning with RAM and other tunning parameters such IO and share pool from OS to DB and to WL servers and how to tune it for around 200-300 concurrent connections. I'm studying Jmeter for this purpose but still not get the answer. I have tested with Oracle Openscript but it worked very heavily slow :(.
    The question here is that do you have any experiences on tuning parameters for such requirements and what is the best automatic test tool for testing multi-connections, please advise me.

  • Database base storage stress test

    Hi,
    I have a ucm 11g instance up and running with SSO.
    I need to test database storage against filesystem storage.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to test this?
    Also I'm sure I read somewhere (but I can't find it now) that once I go in one direction I can't go back, does anyone have any details about this?

    First of all, take a look at File Store Provider (here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e10792/c02_settings005.htm#CSMSP445)
    In general, filesystem storage is always used even if you store data in the database, in the end. It is, though, understood as a temporary storage. In theory, you can keep your files in both locations and I see no reason why you should not be able to go from FS to DB and back, BUT you have to consider consequences (you might have to rebuild indexes or even migrate data from one storage to the other).
    As for stress tests, first you have to decide WHAT you want to test. Potential candidates are:
    - checkin of a single item (wasted effort: since FS is always used as an intermediate storage it will always be a bit faster)
    - mass checkin (e.g. from Batch Loader - especially if you use Fast Checkin settings, db can be a bit faster, but you will need a real lot of small files)
    - search
    - update (metadata - wasted effort: should be the same)
    - backup
    - migration of content
    Then, you will have to setup two environments with more-or-less the same conditions (CPU power, memory, disk speed).
    And finally, you will have to create and run you test cases. I'd suggest to automate stress tests via writing a program calling the same services with the same data. Use WebServices (if non-Java) or RIDC (if Java).
    Alternatively, if your task is "to get results" rather than "perform stress tests", you could try to approach consulting services or project managers to provide some normalized results for you.   • SQL connection errors when stress testing mobile service: SQL failure after 3 attempts

    I have created a Mobile Service (node.js), which has been running for a few months with 50-100k api calls per day with no issues.
    The usage of the service will be scaled up soon, and it will receive much higher traffic, so I am running stress tests (on a staging deployment of the same service).
    The api in question queries data from the sql database that is attached to the mobile service, but caches the resulting data in a redis database for 5 minutes, so each call with identical parameters will not access the SQL database, just the redis cache.
    My first test never has any problems:
    Run a single api calls as fast as possible using the program wrk (https://github.com/wg/wrk). This test never has a problem, and I have run it an hour continuously with a sustained rate of 200 req/s and very few timeout errors.
    The second test always causes problems:
    I created a list of 5 different api calls to the same service (same endpoint, but different parameters), and I run those randomly interweaved as fast as possible. I use the program locust (http://locust.io) for this, spawing 10.000 clients at a rate of 500
    per second. For the first few seconds everything goes ok, but then connections start failing massively.
    I get mostly:
    Error: SQL failure after 3 attempts. Error: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]TCP Provider: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected
    host has failed to respond.
     (SqlState: 08001, Code: 10060)
    And I see this in the http response:
    ConnectionError(ProtocolError('Connection aborted.', gaierror(8, 'nodename nor servname provided, or not known')),)
    The strange thing is that since I am running the same five calls repeatedly, only the very first of each call will actually access the sql database, every subsequent call will just return data directly from redis, and not try to access the sql database at
    all.
    In the azure console for the sql database in question, I see 1860 successful connections and 11 failed connections, which does not explain the massive failure rate I am seeing.

    Thanks for sharing your tips on this forum, as it will be useful for other users, that run into this issue.
    Feedback like this will also help us improve error reporting in the next release, as missing class files in the packaged application is a common issue when developers are moving from the embeded oc4j instance packaged with JDewveloper to standalone instances.

    We are trying to get ready to release a beta version of the software I'm working on.. so part of getting ready for that was to try set up some stress tests and hit the server with multiple requests for the same page....

    Synchronization
    Date formats are not synchronized. It is recommended to create separate
    format instances for each thread. If multiple threads access a format
    concurrently, it must be synchronized externally. Being static, your date format object will be accessed by multiple threads.
    Solution: Don't make the date format object static.

    Ok, so it is constructing a DateFormatting object for each method call, but I don't see it as that big a deal. Its not a huge hit. You might get away with making it an instance variable - I don't know how you use the enclosing class. Start with this, and see if it works.

  • Stress test processes invoked by DB Adapter

    Hi,
    I am trying to test a BPEL process which is invoked by DB adapter, but there's no way I can pass an XML message directly from the BPEL console 'Initiate' tab for such processes.
    Does anyone know how to do unit/stress tests for such processes by manually passing the invoke message rather than having db apapter do the same.

  • Stress test Forms 9i

    Hi,
    I would like to perform an stress test on 9i Forms application and I have two approaches:
    1) Buy a tool.
    2) Build a client that performs petitions.
    The first approach doesn't seem to work because I only know 1 provider which haven't answered to my request. Anybody knows tools like what I need?
    For the second approach I would like to know:
    * Is there any forms API which I could use to build my client? Probably there must be one because I only need the communication classes of the forms's applet and Interact with them.

    YES, you can do this by recording http traffic. This is exactly what you do with LoadRunner from Mercury Interactive. The recorder have a correlation tool wich take care of the dynamic part of the URL and modifies the generated script for you by inserting variables into the programmable script. I have used LoadRunner succesfully to stress test our Internet based Forms 9.0.2 application (http://www.syx.com). We did not dare to go alive without a fullscale test. LoadRunner did the job, and we found several scalability problems realted to the OS and AOS configuration. With LoadRunner you can setup several load generating servers - world wide if you like - each can simulate tousands of clients. Everthing can be orcestered from a mangament console where can can fire up clients with different scripts to form various load patters. E.g. I used one script wich logged users in, waited, and logged out. Other scripts instanciated and closed new forms all the time. E.g. by combining these scripts I could see how the server scaled when I had 200 passive users in the system, 10 users logging in every 10 seconds, 10 users logging out every 10th sec, and 50 users continuosly instanciating and closing new forms wich actually where running the most demanding DB query in our system.

  • Tables created using Enterprise Console Manager do not show up in SQLPLUS

    I am struggling with Enterprise console manager and command line SQLPLUS.
    I have tried scott/tiger , system/manager and the new user that I have created. But I am having the following problems:
    1. I cannot connect as NORMAL through Enterprise Console Manager if I use scott/tiger OR new/paswd. Only way I can connect as NORMAL is using system/manager
    2. The tables that I create using Enterprise Console Manager (while connected as system/manager in NORMAL mode) do not show up in the command line SQLPLUS. I am check this by running the following command:
    SELECT OWNER, OBJECT_NAME FROM ALL_OBJECTS WHERE OBJECT_NAME LIKE '%TEST%';
    While running the above command I am conected to SQLPLUS using system/manager WITHOUT SYSDBA
    3. Lastly, I have a JAVA class which establishes as connection to the database using system/manager. But I can access only the tables that I create using the Enterprise Console Manager. If I create a table using command line SQLPLUS (while connected as system/manager), I cannot access it through Java program.
    I am struggling with this since last morning and now I have run out ways to debug what is happening. Can anybody suggest any ways to tackle this?

    Prior to 11g, when you created a table or whatever, you automatically allocated one extent.
    This is now no longer true and depends on a parameter I don't remember.
    dba_segments is a summary of dba_extents.
    Obviously, if there is no extent allocated, the table (view is defined with inner join) will not show up.
    You could qualify this is as a bug and submit a SR to Oracle. But then the performance impact may be huge.

  • Weblogic 5.1 SP4 Hangs in stress test

    Hi,
    I am trying to stress test my application. I am using
    Weblogic 5.1 SP4 JDK 1.2.2 on Windows NT.
    The stress test client creates 20 threads and makes
    simultaneous requests to the Weblogic Server. This hangs the
    server completely. I am not able to ping the server, attach to it
    via Weblogic console or anything else.
    The relevant parameters are

    The thread dump shows all the threads trying in read (socket).
    I have attached the thread dump. I would really appreciate if
    someone can explain WHY Weblogic is hanging and how do I fix

    Hi Sam,
    I've experienced deadlocking socket problems from my entity beans before,
    except in my app I created my own HttpConnections. And like you said,
    increasing the threads only temporarily solves the problem until the
    requests scale up again... However, your solution, reading file from the
    file system, doesn't seem much safer either, for according to ejb specs one
    should not use java.io!
    If I were to grab my connections from a Connection Factory registered in
    weblogic.properties, will this alleviate the deadlocks? Is there a Weblogic
    implementation for File ResourceBundle?

    Since Xerces is trying to open connections back to the server you are
    running xerces in you are seeing
    a classic deadlock condition. All of the execute threads are being usedup
    by xereces waiting to read
    a file that requires an execute thread to be available. You can try
    increasing the number of threads, however,
    it is difficult to avoid this problem when you are making loopback
    connections. I suggest that you write
    an entity resolver that does not make http connections back to the same
    server, instead it would read the
    file from the file system so that you cannot get in this deadlocksituation.

    I am trying to stress test my application. I am using
    Weblogic 5.1 SP4 JDK 1.2.2 on Windows NT.
    The stress test client creates 20 threads and makes
    simultaneous requests to the Weblogic Server. This hangs the
    server completely. I am not able to ping the server, attach to it
    via Weblogic console or anything else.
    The relevant parameters are

    someone can explain WHY Weblogic is hanging and how do I fix

  • Database Stress testing

    Hi,
    I have planned to do the Stress testing of our application by posting many transactions and running jobs. I would like to know what are all things in database I need to monitor during this stress test

    Well, the most important is going to be whatever metric your users are going to be using. Since it sounds like you're building an OLTP application, I'm assuming that that metric is response time-- how long it takes between the time they hit a button and they get a response.
    I would assume that you'd want to monitor CPU and memory utilization on the machine to see what kind of a load you're putting on the system. If those are too close to 100%, you won't be able to increase the transaction volume significantly without impacting the response time (which I assume is the most important metric).
    After that, if you want to take a couple of statspack snapshots to look at the top waits, that would probably be a good idea. This will tend to show you where to focus your tuning if the stress test results are inadequate.
