Stretched text on Web pages.

I run a WordPress.org website and just updated to v3.8. All the text on my dashboard is now vertically stretched. The reason I'm positing the issue on here is because the issue doesn't appear to be a WordPress problem, and here's why... This issue occurs across all my browers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) and just out of curosity I created a new user account on my Mac and the issue does not occure in the newly created user account. Also, I've cleared the Font Cache and resolved all duplicates in FontBook. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
13" MacBook Pro, Early 2011

Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
OS X 10.9

You could try the following — it works for some people:
1) Quit all open applications.
2) If you have 'Helvetica Fractions', 'Times Phonetic' or 'Rougue Stencil-Type' fonts installed, delete them.
3) Delete your fonts caches with Font Finagler, FontNuke or OnyX (or with whatever utility you normally use)
Font Finagler <http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/> (this is the best utility)
FontNuke <http://www.jamapi.com/pr/fn/>
OnyX <http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html>
4) Restart your Mac
5) Open your Font Book->Edit menu 'Select All' fonts - from the File menu select 'Validate Fonts'
from the Edit menu select 'Resolve Duplicates'
Good luck,
Tom

    I get garbled text on web pages using yahoo with Safari 7.0.5 and have Maverick 10.9.4.

    From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

    The text on web pages fades as you scroll the page, it reappears if you click refresh or move the mouse arrow over it.
    I went to many different web pages and it does it on all of them including this one.
    I went to the same web pages using IE 10 and the text does not fade away.

    What could be wrong?

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • How do I use Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 Live View to copy complex formatted text into web page?

    Obviously, as seen above, I'm doing something wrong or Live View does not do all the functions that Design View use to do.  I realize I can still access Design View in non-Fluid Grid Layout documents and that is my current work-around.  I copy from my Word file into Design View available in non-Fluid, then copy that code into my Fluid Grid Layout document, not real efficient use of my time.  And, even that work-around may not be available after the next upgrade.

    Hans thank you for your reply and attention to this matter.  Moreover, with your steeped expertise I do not, in any fashion, intend to be flippant or capricious.
    However, I do not believe the reply is on point since I'm not discussing the insertion of an HTML tag/element; but rather, the placing of complex formatted text into my various web pages.
    Design View and  2014.1 Live View seem to serve different functions.  That is, Design View, for us, serves as a highly sophisticated HTML5 code generator that allows us to properly display complex formatted text that originally is created as a Word docx file.  As I noted in my original post, the complex formatted text from the Word file is then pasted into Design View and thus properly renders on the web page.  I invite you to try this yourself.  Simply copy my properly formatted text in my original post (that can be found at "Using Design View the web page rendered this way:") to a Word file, and it will retain the complex formatting, then copy that Word file text to both Design View and  2014.1 Live View files.  Please apprise me of your results.
    Discussion has been had in at least two separate threads on the Design View disappearance in Fluid Grid.  In https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1597260 staff member Lalita wrote "It would be helpful for us if you list the issues you are seeing with fluid grid live view editing."  And in https://forums.adobe.com/message/6807088#6807088 staff member Subhadeep wrote "If you can list down the workflows you are trying while editing in Live View & the issues you are facing in doing so, it will help us understand what is amiss & suggest alternative workflows to do the same."  I believe I've pointed out issues when attempting to use Live View for functions or work flow that customarily had been done in Design View.
    Being a CC subscriber, if someone can provide me with a workflow using other additional Adobe products to get my complex formatted text from Word ultimately to my Dreamweaver web page, be it an image insert or whatever, I would take the suggestions.
    The difference in the coding of my example in my original post is as follows.

    It is readily apparent that Design View is a much needed code generator in the Dreamweaver product.  Live View serves completely other, and needed, purposes.  Therefore, I still, after all the forum discussions, do not understand why Design View has been removed from Fluid Grid.
    Again Hans thank you for your reply.  But unless I'm missing something, citation to the links you provided does not solve my problem.  And that problem is this: If Design View is on its way out and thus will be completely removed from Dreamweaver at some point, then how do I provide my information (i.e. complex executive job descriptions) on my website?
    Apparently a vote is taking place https://forums.adobe.com/ideas/3922 on the issue of placing Design View back into Fluid Grid.  I do not understand why the need for two rather disjunctive functionalities are at the mercy of the democratic process.  These are matters of engineering principles not "town hall gatherings".

  • Using Firefox 8.0 on a MacBook Pro I can no longer enlarge the text on web pages by sliding apart two fingers. Why?

    I just downloaded Firefox 8.0.1. I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5.8. In the past, I could easily enlarge text on a web page by sliding two fingers apart, or likewise, make the text smaller by pinching the fingers together. I can no longer do this with the latest version of Firefox. If I run Safari instead, I can still use this feature of the Mac. Is there a setting I need to change? Or is it a glitch in the new version of Firefox?

    Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4+ versions.
    You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    *Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
    *Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
    *Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
    *Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • Finding text on web pages in Safari on iOS

    A big drawback to using Safari on iOS is the inability to use a Find option to locate text on an open web page. If I'm reading a long article in Wikipedia, or any page with a lot of information on it, and I need to see specific text in the context of the whole article or page, that Find feature is as vital on Safari iOS as it is on browsers on Mac OSX or Windows. In fact, sometimes I retreat to my Mac just to do those page searches. This glaring omission was on iOS3, and, as far as I know, it remains on iOS7. I can't imagine Apple not trying to implement this feature, so there must be a big coding problem in iOS that prevents it's implementation.
    Does anyone know of any way to accomplish the Find function in Safari iOS or any other iOS browser?
    (NOTE: This is different from the Search field found on most websites.)

    A big drawback to using Safari on iOS is the inability to use a Find option to locate text on an open web page.
    What drawback? That feature has been there for years.
    This glaring omission was on iOS3, and, as far as I know, it remains on iOS7.
    Nope, no glaring omission. It's been there in iOS 6.x, and iOS 5.x and iOS 4.2+
    I can't imagine Apple not trying to implement this feature, so there must be a big coding problem in iOS that prevents it's implementation.
    No coding problem. It was implemented a long, long time ago.
    The problem is your inability to find and use included features.

    I'm trying to copy text from a web page, and when I paste it in Note or in a new email, it copied the web page link, not the text. Doing this in iPad.  What am I doing wrong? Thanks

    I think it depends on what you are trying to copy.
    To copy, put your finger on the text and hold until the copy thing shows up.  Adjust the size to whatnyou want, then touch copy.( I know, you already knew that).  To paste, touch the screen where you want it to go until the paste thing shows up.
    I just did it
    glass, metal and minimalist design. Two.    ( pasted from a web page)
    Some pages are set up so that you cannot copy words or images.
    So try a different page to see if you are doing it right.
    If you want, post the link to the page and we call all try it as well.

  • How to display Japanese Text in web page?

    Hi,
    I am trying to get this i18n stuff right for a few days but don't seem to find all answers.
    I am using Sybase databse to store Japanese characters. A perl script inserts the chars in table. Then I use a test JSP program to display the chars.
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %>
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%@ page import="java.io.*" %>
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <%@ page import="java.util.*" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.sql.*" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.servlet.*" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.servlet.http.*" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.naming.InitialContext" %>
    <%@ page import="java.text.SimpleDateFormat" %>
    <html>
    <head><title>testing for utf string</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    </head>
    <body>
    <%
    Connection conn = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    try{
            InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
            DataSource ds = (DataSource) context.lookup(System.getProperty("TESTDS"));
            conn = ds.getConnection();
            stmt = conn.createStatement();
            rs = stmt.executeQuery("select comment from TestTable");
            while(rs.next()){
                    out.println("<br>");
                    out.println("the comment is : <Textarea Cols=\"90\" Rows=\"5\" Name=\"Comment\">"+rs.getString(1)+"</Textarea>");
                    out.println("<br>");
                    out.println("the comment is "+rs.getString(1));
    }catch(Exception e){
            e.printStackTrace();
    }finally{
            try{
            if(rs != null) {rs.close();}
            if(stmt != null) {stmt.close();}
            if(conn != null) {conn.close();}
            }catch(Exception e){}
    %>
    </body>
    </html>But the page does not display correctly. If I change the charset as JIS, then it seems to work. But my web page will be having chars from multiple language and I think utf-8 is the right charset for that.
    Any pointers?
    Thanks

    What JSP/Servlet server are you using and what version?
    Try this just for debugging:
    Remove the rs.getString(1) from the out.println() call. Just assign the returned value to a local String variable and display the variable using (I hope I'm remembering correctly) this:
    <%= myVariable %>
    I'm curious whether directly inserting the text into the page is somehow different from sending it via out.println.
    Regards,
    John O'Conner

  • Can I have the text on web pages magnified to 125% or 150% as I used to do in Internet Explorer ?

    As I recall, there was a drop down menu where you could choose to increase the size of the print on web pages to 125% or 150% of its standard size when using Internet Explorer. Where is this option in Firefox 4 ?

    If you just want to do it on a few pages, see the [[page zoom]] and [[text zoom]] help articles. If the menu bar is hidden, to access the View menu you can temporarily display the menu bar by pressing the Alt key.
    If you want this on all sites, you can use an add-on such as [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/ NoSquint] or [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6965/ Default FullZoom Level].
    If you do not know how to install add-ons that are not shown as compatible with Firefox 4 beta, a simple option is to use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003/ Add-on Compatibility Reporter] add-on to install add-ons marked as incompatible.

  • Safari printing: Losing text between web pages

    (Since updating to 10.4.11, Safari 3.04) . . . when I print out web pages of text, Safari loses several sentences between pages. I've tried printing to different printers, but the same problem occurs. If I use another browser, it parses out the pages properly (retaining all the text). Is there a way to correct this?

    I tried the Font Book option and removed some duplicates. Times New Roman had duplicates and a couple of others. Bauhaus93 also had a kern error so I deleted it. I then tried reloading the same page, but no luck. Is there a restart needed or preferences that may need deleting? I of course restarted the browsers after deleting the fonts, but not the computer.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Help please - Synching Word text with web pages

    Hi,
    I'm creating a welcome page to display in our company's front lobby to welcome guests. Another department is going to be in charge of updating names, so want I'm trying to do is insert a Word document in each cell where names will change. Files are named "Guest Name 1," "Guest Name 2," etc. I'm trying to find a way where these Word docs can be "linked" to cells instead of placed so when the names are changed and resaved, the name changes synch on the web page as well. Does anyone know if this is possible, or how to do this? Or if there's an easier way?
    I appreciate any help you can give me.
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hi Joey,
    Thanks for your reply.
    The screen in the lobby will point to a web address, similiar to an internet page. We have our own server. I'm not in IT, so I don't know all the details, but I know the page will be similar to our intranet.
    I've never made a dynamic site before. Can you tell me what that means? And if another work station is responsible for adding guest names to the guest screen, would they need special software to make changes?
    Thanks again!
    Jeff

  • Can't insert text into web page plus script error message

    I'm using CS3 and, on a fairly regular basis, when I am either pasting or inserting content (usually a newsletter of 500-1000 words), I get a message saying something like I can't insert text in this area. I definitely can insert text in the area as I have done it tons of times before. I sometimes have to cut and past a doc line by line to get it to insert. Very frustrating!
    Also, just recently, I've been getting a script error message, "An error has occurred in the script of this page" followed by Line: 992, Char: 106, Error: Unterminated String Constant, followed by the question: Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? I click Yes and everything seems to work fine.
    Help on either would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    You might want to make sure you are trying to copy plain text. It's possible that if you are copying from a Word document or another Web site that you are bringing along extra unseen code it doesn't like.  Try copying into Notepad first and then copying from Notepad into Contribute.  Not sure if that's the problem or not, but that's what came to my head first.
    I used to get an error that sounds similar (however it's not reproducing the error for me right now) to your error.  It was because some of my users had javascript menus on their page that Contribute didn't like.  However, if worked fine when you clicked yes and it was fine once it was published.   So if you are running a script that's probably why and I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you can continue working and the page displays to your users correctly once published.  It's just annoying.
    Hope that helps.  Good luck.

  • How do I make text in web pages bigger?

    I'm using Firefox 13.0.1. The text on most sites is too small!

    You're welcome.
    You can still zoom pages via toolbar buttons without an extension, but the above mentioned extensions usually work better.

  • Overlap of texts in web page when texts are enlarged

    When I display a webpage with texts in boxes, and I press Command + to increase the display size of the texts, usually the surrounding box also expands or adjusts to accommodation the larger texts. But when I press Command + again, then the texts from adjacent boxes start to overlap.
    A similar thing also happens with Firefox, except that I can press Command + a few more times before the texts start to overlap.
    Is there any preference in Safari that I can adjust to delay the overlapping of texts?

    Try
    http://au.yahoo.com/
    In Safari, as soon as I press Command + twice, then the texts in the top right corner about Mail and Weather start to overlap.
    But in Firefox, even after I press Command + 8 times to zoom to the maximum, everything stays in proportion without any overlap of texts.

  • Text in web pages becomes corrupt, temporarily fixed by selecting & deselecting.

    When reading text part of it becomes blocky & unreadable. If I select the text then deselect it, it becomes ok for a short time but soon becomes corrupt again. Only sections of the text are affected at any one time,but it is very frustrating. It's even happening to the text I'm typing at the moment. I've tried several of the suggestions given but to no avail.

    hello samgill, this sounds like an issue with hardware acceleration - please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in ''firefox > options > advanced > general''.
