Stretching Timeline cross a two computer monitor config.

I'm working with FCP6 using two Computer monitors. I like to stretch my timeline across
the two screens. I then save my window layout. If someone else comes to use the machine,
calls up the standard window layout, and then I come back later and call up my custom window layout that I saved earlier, the timeline is no longer stretched out across the two screens.
Does anybody know why and how I can make it default to the timeline stretch across the two windows?
Thanks.

Mathew,
You shouldn't have a problem using built-in audio if you're monitoring on the computer monitor. Built-in is low enough latency that it shouldn't matter. As you say, they appear to be in sync. If you were monitoring video through your Decklink, and audio through the built-in, then I would suspect a problem because the video D to A conversion introduces video latency.
Why a sequence would go a bit out of sync a few weeks later after making no changes is a mystery. Unless you changed something else in your system that could have changed the buffer settings for built-in audio? Just a longshot.

  • Any Success with Cintiq + Two Monitor Config in CS5 or CS4

    Hi,
I'm currently running two Eizo CG210 monitors and want to add a Contiq 21ux to the setup. I'm going to either try to match the video card already in the pc or buy two new video cards of the same type. A video card that supports three monitors sounds possible, but maybe more expensive than it needs to be.
Has anyone had success with this setup or something like it?
    Thanks!

I have no experience with more than two video monitors, though I understand most of the modern ATI cards can support 3 with the right connective hardware.
I'd very much be interested in your (and others') experience in getting a three monitor configuration to work solidly.
A friend of mine put a 4 monitor system together using two nVidia cards.  When asked why he answered, "Because I don't have room for six."    I'd pass along info about his setup, but unfortunately he's still having stability problems with the system.

  • URGENT - How accurate is Audio Synch on Computer Monitor?

    Hi,
Due the temporary lack of Digital-to-Analog convertor for my Blackmagic HDLink card, I've been unable to monitor audio while watching video on my external monitor. So instead I've been watching the computer monitor, and listening thru built-in audio.
(I should explain that I am listening to a mixed down audio track, so I dont have the original audio clips in the timeline to see the synch indicators. I'm doing this all by eye and ear)
I have a two-beep at the beginning of the long sequence, which I SEE and HEAR at the same time. But I've been told by someone I trust not to trust the synch using this method. My sequence is 83min if that makes any difference.
The reason this came up is that after adjusting the synch on a bunch of shots a few weeks ago, I went back and checked them again and they are off a few frames....
I've got a M-Audio Flying Cow Digital to Analog convertor on the way, but the meatime am borrowing a Home Theatre amp with Digial In that should allow me to monitor from the Decklink, but would really like to know if all my synch work is unreliable.
    thank you !!!

  • Help Connect my Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to my new YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual Computer Monitor

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to my new YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual Computer Monitor.  I am not having a lot of luck.
    My machine:
    OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Processor:  2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I am trying to connect it using the:
Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    DVD-D HDMI cable
YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual

    Here is what is happening.
    1. I connect the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter + HDMI Cable to Monitor
    2. Main monitor powers up like it is trying to display
    3. Laptop Monitor displays second part of desktop
    4. I can never get the Yamakasi to display a picture
Here is what I have tried:
    1. Different HDMI-D cables
    2. ATLONA AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter
    3. Zapping the P-Ram
    4. Powering monitor with laptop closed
    5. Forcing the system to see the second monitor
    The nearest I can figure:
    - The laptop does see the catsleap (it displays resolutions I can set it to)
I am completely stumped, I was hoping someone could advise me.
    Thanks,
    Don

    Hey Kytarx,
I found the winning combination this weekend.
    I tried:
    - Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    - ATLONA AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter
    - Monoprice Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI®, DVI & DisplayPort Adapter
    My experience:
    - Altona didn't work at all, and their support claimed it would not.
    - Monoprice didn't work to Dual DVI, it did work to HDMI (great price I wish it did)
    - Apple Mini Displayport adapter did work, but would only work with certain USB + Display port combos.
The thing that was tripping me up was that two of the Dual DVI-D cords were bad.  Once I found the working cord, it was easier to find the working adapter.  The experience I did find to be a frustrating / expensive one. However, the Monitor itself is beautiful.
    Hopefully this helps someone else..

  • How do I connect my 2010 Mac Book Pro to two HDMI Monitors?

    Hi All,
I currently have a 2010 Mac Book Pro (Non Retina) which has only one MiniDisplay Port. I am trying to connect it to two HDMI Monitors. How do I do this? I originally was going to buy a MiniDisplay Port to HDMI Adapter and a HDMI Splitter, but won't that show the exact same thing on both displays? Thanks.

If you can connect each computer to the Internet at the same time without swapping cables, you have all the infrastructure in place for File Sharing.
    On your Mac,
System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing can be used to "Share" [read: "make available to others"]
OS X Mountain Lion: Set up a Windows computer to share files with Mac users
If you decide to connect an external Hard drive:
The PC does not believe there are any other Operating Systems, so it cannot read Mac OS X files.
The Mac can read and write FAT and exFat, and can Read but not write NTFS.

  • X240 (Win 8.1) w/ Ultra Dock and two external monitors connected via DisplayPort problem

I'm having trouble making this combination work. This Ultra Dock does have two DP connectors, computer sees both external monitors (HP ZR24w) but I cannot get any picture on both at the same time using DP. Sometimes one display does work, but that is not always working.
When I connect same monitors via VGA/DSUB and DP (with Lenovo DPtoDVI converter) I can get this to work - both same time - , but I'd prefer them both digital and both native DP as both monitors do have that port.
Ultra Dock does already have the latest firmware and this problem seems to not relate to the flickering problem with T440 etc. X240 is also running latest UEFI/BIOS and I've also tried latest Intel Beta display driver, no effect.

Let me start by saying that the internal and both external monitors work simultaneously. However, getting to that state is the problem.
I can boot successfully with the laptop in the dock with 1) just the internal monitor, or 2) the internal and one external monitor connected.
However, if I try to boot with both monitors connected via DVI, the following happens:
Windows logon screen appears -- but there is no cursor on the screen
I enter the password and the login continues for 30-60 seconds, then
Blue screen SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION for nvlddmkm.sys with STOP x0000003B
Lenovo has replaced the dock with no change in behavior.
    Drivers and BIOS are current.
Most recent change was to set BIOS so Win 7 automatically detects Nvidia Optimus.
At this point, my best workaround is to disconnect one external monitor whenever I need to reboot, and then connect it again after everything is runing. Not terrible... but it really shouldn't be necessary. Any suggestions?
If you want to drive the monitors in the manner stated, the BIOS Display property must be set to Discrete and the auto detection below it must be disabled.

  • How can I communicate between two computer via RS 232 port?

I would like to communicate between two computer in order to servo a motor motion to an acquisition.
Thank you in advance for your answer an your solutions

PreScript: I did not rate the above answer!
Here's a VI I use to test my instruments - if you have it running on both PCs, you should be able to communicate (with the help of a Null modem between them - cross Rx and Tx) - hopefully this will get you started.

  • TV vs. Computer Monitor for Matrox

I'm exploring getting a Matrox Mini and am looking for a monitor to get for it. It seems that getting a 24" 1920 x 1080 computer monitor (like a Dell SP2309W, HDMI and currently $250) is much cheaper than getting a 1920 x 1080 flat panel TV.
In the Matrox forums, I see that the staff themselves use Dells in-house.
Are there any other pros and cons that one needs to be aware of.
    Thanks for your help.

BROADCAST work? Get a proper Broadcast monitor. Why is it that people dump all the money into production, and think post only needs a computer, hard drive and software...and a pilot to fly the computer? Broadcast? Well, given the two choices the TV would be the best bet, but far from ideal. Even with the calibration via HDMI, you might still be off by a bit.
Projected...web...you are fine with a TV. But Broadcast? Now you are on thinner ice. Make it a GOOD TV, like a Panasonic Pro Plasma if you insist on this.

  • Connecting an iPad 2 to a computer monitor

I'm trying to locate a 30-pin-to-DVI adapter to connect my iPad to a computer monitor. I've seen questionable reviews of the two online sites -- DX.com and DinoDirect -- that claim to offer the product. Is there a store in Vancouver that carries the adapter? If not does anyone know of a reputable online site?

Thanks, I already have the 30pin to HDMI adapter (connecting my iPad to my HDTV) and I've ordered theHDMI to DVI adapter.

  • Need A Way to Show Project Progress Viewing on Computer Monitor

I need to show the work I am doing to get approvals as I add new footage and employ transitions and keyframes to product images being shown on a 'retail store' video.
Right now, I simply watching results on the canvas to monitor playback. The problem with the canvas is that, for showing work to others, it is too small and shows too much editing work with keyframes highlighted, which is a distraction from being able to see it more like it would play on a TV as a finished product.
I'm not ready to add more equipment or monitors at this point, but would like to know what the best way is to show work in progress for review on the computer monitor where I am doing the editing. Is it possible to playback work in progress in full screen mode or some other 'larger' way that gives a better idea of how it will look when finished.

Enlarging the Canvas window as Martin suggests is the only way I know of and then save a screen layout for easy recall.
Make the Canvas active and drag the bottom right corner to enlarge as desired.
Hold down the Option key and select Windows>Arrange>Custom Layout 2.
Next time you want to display a large Canvas use Option-U to recall it.
Most likely the Timeline will be on top if you make the Canvas really big. Just click on the Canvas to it to the front.

  • How to use two external monitors and Tecra M5

    Hi ,
I've been used to work with two 17" monitors connected to a computer in extended desktop monitor view, ii've just changed Job and now i have the following setup:
a Toshiba Laptop connected to Toshiba Tecra M5 dockstation and one external 17" monitor connected to dockstation digital port that works fine.
I also have connected another external 17" monitor to the Dockstation RGB port but keeps black
I'ts really awful to work like this switching between the 17" monitor and the small toshiba laptop monitor.
What i'd like is to work with the two external 17" monitor, and keep the laptop monitor off, or if possible on.
    Any ideas???
Any help will be very wellcome
    Mari PAz

I have an M11-17V, and the docking station that came with it has 2 monitor outputs, analogue and DVI. I wondered what it would do if I connected a monitor to both. Windows recognised that it was faced with 3 screens (including the built-in one) and asked me to choose which 2 of the 3 I wanted it to use.
I was disappointed it would not allow me to use all of them TBH, but if your docking station is the same, it might answer your question.

  • Two external monitors with macbook pro

attempting to use my MBP in clamshell mode with two external monitors.  Only thing I get is the same screen on both monitors.  I am also using VM Fusion running a windows xp interface.
Tried just mac software...same problem.  Won't set up as two seperate monitors.
    HELP

My understanding is that a "splitter" simply shares the same output signal between two monitors, causing both to display the same image at all times. That's exactly what you're seeing, right? So I think it's because you're using a splitter, instead of a device or devices that enable the monitors to receive different signals. Unless the manufacturer or vendor of your splitter can assure you otherwise and help you get your setup running the way you want it to, a better alternative would be to connect one monitor to your computer's video-out port, and the other to a USB port using an adapter like this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/VIDU2DVIA/
Note that the monitor connected via USB won't be as responsive as the one connected to the video-out port.
A more expensive option that would enable both monitors to be equally responsive is the Matrox DualHead2Go. If you have a MBP with a Mini-Displayport or Thunderbolt port, you would need the DP Edition of the DH2Go.

  • Multiple Computer Monitor Screensets Not Staying Put

I've created 7 screensets, each distributing various windows onto different computer monitors (I have 3 monitors and a lcd tv attached to my computer) to speed my workflow.  Each time I open my LPX file, all the open windows of each screenset are stacked top of each other on my main screen, instead of where I put them. I've tried locking them which keeps them in place until I reboot the computer, then they're all in stacked in the main window again.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?  I've tried reinstalling LPX, trashing the pref file, but no luck, the problem persists.
I am currently trying to use 10.0.3, but the problem has been there since I updated to X when it was released.  I still have 9 on my computer and it is working fine.  I had no problems with this in any previous logic version until now. Thanks.

I did a fresh install of Mav and LPX on an external HD and booted from it...  to test out the combination and so far, so good. No major issues of note.. A few niggling OS X bugs that I can work around, (not related to LPX and it's use I might add.. ) but such minor bugs are not unusual with a new OS version... All my external hardware (Motus) work fine with the current, latest drivers although Motu do have a new beta driver specifically for Mav ready to go....but so far, I haven't come across anything of issue with the current ML drivers... All my plugins are working just fine too.
As for my main working rig... Whenever there is a major upgrade to the OS I always install from scratch... and even though I could simply upgrade the previous OS to the new one.. I have found through bad experiences in the past, that it is better just to start again from fresh to minimize issues.... I keep my major sample libraries on a separate HD so at least i don't have to reinstall those.... just the plugins like Kontakt and 3rd party FX and SIs...... It can take a couple of days to achieve all this (I have all the current versions of plugin installers stored on another external HD ready to install from which speeds things up a great deal)  but for me, the time spent to do it this way, seems to always pay off in terms of the lack of issues going forward.
I do upgrade one of my test rigs rather than start from scratch.. just to see what happens in case there are any issues related to doing so, that my clients might face.... but I will only be doing that when the App Store version is actually released... as even though i don't expect any changes to be made to the Gold master version of Mav at this stage... the installer itself can change so I wait until it is released to the public... and use that version, just in case.
So, I haven't come across anything 'bad' using Mav and LPX..... and some things.. like the way Mav handles multiple monitors.. are greatly improved for sure...Overall performance in both LPX and other OS X apps seems snappier under Mav... in particular those apps that made heavy demands on the graphics sub routines.  Also, after waiting for almost two years now.. a long standing bug regarding the use of the Thunderbolt to FW adaptor and a problem when the display goes to sleep, has finally been fixed resulting is stable connections to my FW800 Ext HDs and FW400 Ultralites.. which for me is a real bonus and benefit of using Mav!

  • How do I use two external monitors with my laptop?

I have a new Pavilion dm4-301 d cl Entertainment PC.   My OS is Windows 7.   I am used to using two external monitors with a docking station.   This new laptop does not have a docking station.  What do I need to get  to use two external monitors?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Certainly not without a dock but even with, HP laptop docks pretty well limit you to one of the external monitor ports, even if there are two on the dock. We have used a device called an Atlona AT-HDPIX2 which is a usb to hdmi adapter. It provides a third monitor capability for a laptop....use the native external monitor port and the internal laptop display and then this device gives a third monitor which is full configurable from the Windows 7 display interface...clone, extend, etc. It allows full HD resolution and is responsive enough for even light gaming.  HP makes no true docking station for your laptop.
